Prediction

Nets 108, Spurs 103

Moneyline (ML)

The NETS (+125) are underdogs, but they’re a great value on the road as they have a winning record against a struggling Spurs (-149) side which finds itself six games below .500.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The NETS (+2.5, -106) look to keep the Spurs (-2.5, -115) down. San Antonio covered last time out, and it hasn’t covered in back-to-back games at any point this season. Brooklyn enters 7-2 ATS in the past nine games overall while going 8-2 ATS in the past 10 against teams with a losing straight-up record.

San Antonio heads in 5-17 ATS in the past 22 games at home, and 7-19 ATS in the past 26 at home as a favorite.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 218.5 (-106) is where it’s at, cashing in five of the past six games overall for the Nets and five of the past seven road outings.  For the Spurs, the Under is 11-5 in their past 16 games against teams with a winning overall mark.

Prediction

Nets 115, Pelicans 104

Moneyline (ML)

The NETS (-139) are coming off an impressive 20-point victory against the Philadelphia 76ers their last time out. They’re worth a look on the road against the skidding Pelicans (+115).

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The NETS (-1.5, -115) carry at 6-2 ATS mark into action across the past eight games overall, and they’re 7-2 ATS in the past nine against teams with a losing overall record. The Pelicans (+1.5, -106) are 1-10-1 ATS across the past 12 games overall, and they’re 0-5 in the past five at SKC.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 230.5 (-115), as the Under has connected in four of the past five for the Nets, while going 5-2 in their past seven as a favorite. The Under is 6-2 in the past eight for the Pellies, too.

The Nets had a premier rebounding performance in win against Hawks

The Brooklyn Nets are one of the best rebounding teams in the NBA

With Jarrett Allen and DeAndre Jordan being their top two rebounders, the Brooklyn Nets have been one of the NBA’s top rebounding teams this season.

The Nets’ quality rebounding showed Wednesday in their 130-118 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

According to the Nets public relations staff, Brooklyn tied a season-high in offensive rebounds (18) and beat the Hawks in the rebound battle by 18 boards; the Nets had 53, and Atlanta had 35. Per Nets PR, it was the Nets’ largest rebound margin this season.

The Nets rank sixth in the league for rebounds per game (47.1), according to NBA.com stats. They’re tied for ninth in offensive rebounds (10.7) with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Allen, the team’s anchor in the middle, is having a career season when it comes to working the boards. He leads the Nets in rebounds and is averaging a career-high (10.6). Allen is also averaging career-highs in points (12.0) and field goal percentage (67.1%).

Along with Allen, Jordan is also having a good year rebounding the ball. Throughout his career, Jordan has been one of the NBA’s top rebounders, ranking fifth among active players in total rebounds (9,055).

This season, Jordan is averaging 9.2 rebounds per game; it’s the first time he’s averaged fewer than 10 rebounds since the 2012-13 season.

Aside from their leading big men, the Nets have also gotten rebounding contributions from some of their guards and wings. Taurean Prince, Kyrie Irving and Caris LeVert are all grabbing at least 5.0 rebounds a game. Each player is averaging a career-high in rebounds, according to Basketball Reference.

With the Nets having rebounding come from multiple players, that helps them with pace and earning possession.

The Nets rank eighth in pace. They’ve won seven of their last 10, and in each of those wins they had a pace of at least 95.0, according to NBA.com. Their highest pace in this 10-game stretch was 109.50 in a win against the Chicago Bulls on Nov. 16.

The Nets will play on the road Friday against the Charlotte Hornets at 7 p.m. EST.

Report: Caris LeVert participating in shooting drills in thumb rehab

Nets guard Caris LeVert participated in shooting drills Tuesday as he recovers from thumb surgery.

Brooklyn Nets guard Caris LeVert is making progress as he recovers from his right thumb surgery.

According to Kristian Winfield of The New York Daily News, LeVert participated in shooting drills Tuesday. In the video, LeVert could be seen taking stand-still shots from the elbow and around the low block. From what’s shown in the video, LeVert’s release appears to be solid.

LeVert suffered a right thumb injury during the Nets’ loss on Nov. 10 against the Phoenix Suns. After the thumb surgery, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that LeVert is slated to be out 4-6 weeks.

In nine games this season, LeVert has averaged a career-high 16.8 points per game on 42.1% shooting from the field. He is averaging a career-high 5.0 rebounds a game.

Last season LeVert played in 40 games, as he suffered a right foot injury in November 2018.

Over the course of his career, LeVert has played at least 70 games one time. That was during the 2017-18 season, when he averaged 12.1 points per game and a career-high 4.2 assists in 71 games.

With this video of LeVert shooting, Nets fans should be optimistic about his timeline to return to the lineup.

The 6 NBA storylines we need to pay attention to in December

The league could get crazy pretty quickly.

We’re just about done with the first month of NBA basketball. Now the real games are about to begin.

October and November are typically the time teams use in the season to get their rotations together while feeling out their strengths and weaknesses.

Some of the narratives for this season are beginning to take shape. December is really when teams truly start to figure out who they are. By the end of 2019, we’ll know who is truly tanking, who is truly contending and who should give up hope altogether for this season.

Here are six things you need to pay attention to in the NBA for the next month.

1. Just how real are the Lakers?

The Lakers are the league’s best team right now with a 16-2 record and have the league’s third best net rating at 7.9. They’re legit good. That’s not a question. The thing still left to be figured out is how good has their success actually been.

Their schedule has been weak. Their opponents’ .475 winning percentage ranks 24th in the NBA. We’ll see who they really are by the end of the month after they face the Jazz, Mavericks, Nuggets (twice), Bucks and Clippers next month. Buckle in, y’all. It’s might get bumpy.

2. The Raptors might be legit Finals contenders

Don’t look now, but the Raptors are one of two teams in the league that rank in the top 5 in both offensive and defensive efficiency. The other is the Milwaukee Bucks. These Raptors look like have a real shot in getting back to the Finals.

This upcoming month will be tough. Six of their first eight matchups in December are against playoff teams — including Kawhi Leonard’s Clippers. That slate will be a great litmus test to see how real they actually are.

3. James Harden’s push for 40 points per game

As it stands, James Harden is averaging 37.7 points per game, just a shade under 40. He’s still shooting 43 percent from the field and 34 percent from deep – slightly below his career averages in both categories – so he can still get to that 40 mark.

The Rockets’ December schedule should help. They’ll play six matchups against the bottom 10 defenses in the league. They get the Spurs twice, Cavaliers, Pistons, Warriors and the Pelicans to close the month out. Harden is going to have a field day.

4. Will Kyrie Irving’s return throw the Nets off?

Kyrie Irving should return soon after missing some time with a shoulder injury. The problem? The Nets have been just fine without him. They’re 6-2 in the eight games without him after a 4-7 start and Spencer Dinwiddie has looked like an All-Star.

It’d be ridiculous to say that the Nets are better off without Irving. But there’s something to them playing better right now with him out of the lineup. The Nets are better when the ball moves and Irving’s 34 percent usage rate clearly doesn’t mix with that. They’ll have to find a happy medium when he gets back to stay afloat.

5. Can this Carmelo Anthony experiment last?

Carmelo Anthony has been up and down in his time with the Blazers. His last two games he’s averaging 22 points per game and shooting 61.3 percent from the field. Before that? 13 points while hitting 34 percent from the field and 31 percent from deep. The real him probably lies somewhere in between that.

The problem is the Blazers badly need him to be that best version of himself. If he can’t, this experiment might end quickly. He’s on a non-guaranteed deal until January 7 and is paid by the day. Any slip and he could be out of there.

6. Victor Oladipo back?

Malcolm Brogdon and Domantas Sabonis have played like All-Stars and have the Pacers just a game back of the four seed in the East. The good news is Victor Oladipo might be back soon to help. There’s still no timeline on his return, but he was assigned to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants a couple of weeks ago and has been a full participant in practice.

He won’t be the same Oladipo when he finally gets back, but anything close to All-Star form is a bonus for the Pacers and will make them a formidable team moving in to the new year.

Prediction

Celtics 116, Nets 112

Moneyline (ML)

The Nets did not have enough to stay with the Celtics in the second half in Boston. They will be without Irving for an eighth straight game and it will have a negative impact against the deeper Celtics team.

Our pick is with the CELTICS (-189).

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Boston returns a profit of $5.29 with an outright win.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Boston is 10-5-2 against the spread overall and 6-3-1 on the road while covering by an average of 6.2 points per game. Those numbers are impressive and Brooklyn is just 4-4 ATS at home. The Nets fall below the cover line by 1.4 points per game.

Back BOSTON (-3.5, -125). The Nets expect to keep this close throughout but Boston should be able to close it out late. Boston has to win by four or more points for a $10 bet to return $8 in profit.

Over/Under (O/U)

The projected total is set at 214.5. The Nets allow over 114 points per game. Boston average 110.8 PPG along with Brooklyn’s 112.6. The projection seems low and the OVER (-129) is the play.

Prediction

Celtics 119, Nets 110

Moneyline (ML)

The Nets have woken up from what feels like a season-long slumber to win four straight games. Boston has struggled a bit but now has PG Kemba Walker back in the lineup. Walker drives the offense and allows players to assume their normal roles. That should be enough as Irving is still out with a shoulder issue for the Nets.

Our pick is with the CELTICS (-333), albeit at a chalky price.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Boston returns a profit of only $3 with an outright win.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Boston is 9-5-2 against the spread overall and 3-2-1 at home while covering by an average of 2.2 points per game. Those numbers do not sound great but Brooklyn is just 4-5 ATS on the road. Also, they fall below the cover line by 1.7 points per game.

Back BOSTON (-8.5, +105). The Nets could keep this close for most of the way but the Celtics will be able to pull away late. This bet returns a $10.50 profit on a $10 wager.

Over/Under (O/U)

The projected total is set at 217.5. The Nets are still the key here. They have improved defensively (particularly during this winning streak) but still allow over 113 points per game. Boston average 110.2 PPG along with Brooklyn’s 112.7 PPG. The projection seems too low and the OVER (+105) is the play.

Brooklyn Nets at Cleveland Cavaliers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s Brooklyn Nets at Cleveland Cavaliers sports betting odds and lines, with NBA betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Brooklyn Nets (8-8) and Cleveland Cavaliers (5-11) lock horns at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse Monday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Nets-Cavaliers odds and lines, with NBA betting advice and tips around the matchup.

Place a legal sports bet on this NBA action or other games at BetMGM.

Nets at Cavaliers: Key injuries

Nets: PG Kyrie Irving (shoulder) will be sidelined until early December, and SG Caris LeVert (thumb) is out at least through the holidays.

Cavaliers: PF Kevin Love (back) is a question mark for Monday’s battle.

Nets at Cavaliers: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 7:35 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Cavaliers 106, Nets 101

Moneyline (ML)

The CAVALIERS (-115) aren’t a huge risk as long as Love is on the floor. He has been in and out of the lineup due to a back ailment. The good news for the Cavs is the Nets (-106) won’t have the services of their old friend Irving.

New to sports betting? Every $1 wagered on a Cleveland win profits $0.87 if the Cavs prevail. (Ex: Bet $10 to win $8.70, $20 to win $17.40, $5.35 to win $10).

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Take the CAVALIERS (-1.5, –106) on their home floor. Even without Love, they have a more than decent chance of winning, although his inclusion gives them much better odds to win.

The Nets (+1.5, -115) are just too shorthanded right now, and they’re a very subpar basketball team with their two big offseason signings each in street clothes.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 217.5 (-110) is a great play, as the trends point to the Under for both sides. In fact, this is the best wager for this entire game. The Under has cashed in four in a row for Brooklyn, and seven of the past 10 in the second end of a back-to-back situation.

The Under is 5-2 in the past seven against the Eastern Conference for Cleveland, while going 4-0 in their past four after a cover and 7-1 in their past eight following a straight-up win.

Report: Kyrie Irving is out Friday against the Sacramento Kings

Kyrie Irving will miss his fourth straight consecutive game Friday night due to a right shoulder impingement.

The Brooklyn Nets will be without All-Star guard Kyrie Irving on Friday night against the Sacramento Kings, per the New York Post’s Brian Lewis.

Irving is out with a right shoulder impingement injury that has sidelined him the previous three games.

When Irving doesn’t play this season, the Nets are 2-1. With Irving being new to the team, there will be an adjustment period when it comes to creating new chemistry.

Irving is a different guard compared to former Nets guard D’Angelo Russell. Irving feeds on isolations; Russell thrives in making plays in the pick-and-roll.

Still, Irving has been the Nets’ leading scorer this season, averaging 28.5 points per game on 44.4% shooting from the field.

And while Irving is averaging a career-high 7.2 assists, he remains one of the top isolation scorers in the game. According to NBA.com, Irving is averaging 3.5 points in isolation on 3.5 field goal attempts. Spencer Dinwiddie is the Nets’ best scorer after Irving, but he’s not shooting a quality percentage from the field at 41.4%.

At 6-8 through 14 games, the Nets have had a slow start to the season. They’re ranked 18th in field goal percentage (44.7) and 22nd in 3-point field goal percentage (34.0).

Overall, it’s going to take time for the Nets and Irving to jell, as the offense is slightly different compared to when Russell was at the helm.

Nets-Nuggets odds: Denver favored heavily at home

Previewing Thursday’s Brooklyn Nets at Denver Nuggets sports betting odds and lines, with NBA matchup analysis and picks

The Brooklyn Nets (4-6) roll into the Mile High City to take on the high-flying Denver Nuggets (7-3) Thursday at Pepsi Center at 10:30 p.m. ET.

We analyze the Nets-Nuggets odds and lines, with NBA betting advice and tips around the matchup.

Place a legal sports bet on this NBA action or other games at BetMGM.

Nets-Nuggets: Key injuries

Nets: PG Kyrie Irving (shoulder) is listed as questionable, suffering from a right shoulder impingement. SG Caris LeVert (thumb) will be sidelined until early December.

Nuggets: SF Jerami Grant (finger) is expected to be in the lineup, while SG Malik Beasley (illness) is under the weather and much less certain.

Nets-Nuggets: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 10 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Nuggets 111, Nets 99

Moneyline (ML)

PASS. The Nuggets (-455) are expensive on the moneyline whether or not Irving is able to play. It’s a good idea to avoid this line completely.

New to sports betting? Every $1 wagered that Denver wins profits $0.22 if the Nuggets prevail. (Ex: Bet $10 to win $2.20, $20 to win $4.40, $45.50 to win $10).

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Take the NUGGETS (-9, –110) regardless if Kyrie plays or not. Keep in mind you’ll be going against all of the series trends, as the Nets (+9, -110) are 5-1 ATS in the past six trips to Denver, 9-2 ATS in the past 11 meetings, and the underdog is 6-2 ATS in the past eight in this series.

However, those series trends are all when the Nets did not have Irving in their backcourt. Of course, that might also be the case Thursday might, too.

Over/under (O/U)

With Irving’s availability in doubt, question, the O/U is off the board as of this publishing.

However, if the line is posted, the UNDER (whatever it is) the play regardless of Irving’s status, as Denver’s recent trends drive this pick. The under is 4-1 ATS in the past five overall for the Nuggets, while going 11-2 in their past 13 against Eastern Conference foes and 18-7 ATS in the past 25 at home.
