It’s all part of the plan: Aggies purposely lose once again to avoid playing Texas

It’s simply all a part of the plan, as the Aggies have avoided facing the Texas Longhorns in the NCAA Tournament before joining the SEC in 2024. Muhahaha!

Texas A&M (38-27) saw their 2023 postseason end at the hands of Regional Host Stanford (42-17), losing 7-1 just days after defeating the Cardinal 8-5 before dropping two straight contests disappointingly.

Even worse, the Aggies’ porous offense squandered a solid outing from junior RHP Nathan Dettmer, who lasted six innings with eight strikeouts, as freshman outfielder Jace LaViolette produced A&M’s only run off of a solo shot in the second.

As head coach Jim Schlossnagle and the team are set to return to College Station on Tuesday evening, the loss has a definite upside that no one has the guts to say out loud; To avoid facing the Texas Longhorns, losing in Palo Alto to the nerdiest school in the country was a must to save every ounce of bad blood before the 2024 season, as Texas is set to join the SEC next year.

No offense to Texas A&M, but having to face a much hotter Longhorns squad, who won two straight over Regional host Miami to reach the Super Regional round, is just an unneeded hassle, so sending them to Palo Alto to take on Stanford is the best insult the Aggies can provide.

Yes, Texas fans are going through an emotional roll-coaster ranging from hurling Twitter insults towards TexAgs’ Billy Liucci to ignoring the fact that Stanford has scored 20 runs in their last two home games; their anger towards the Maroon and White will continue to grow, which is great news ahead of 2024. Gig ‘Em! I’m kidding. Laughter is the best medicine, after all!

How to Watch: Baseball Texas A&M vs Stanford (NCAA Stanford Regional Final Game Two)

The Aggies will face the Stanford Cardinals in a win-or-go home game on Monday night.

Sunday night’s game will be the end of the road this season for one of these teams, and the other will earn a Super regional spot. Texas A&M made it to the Regional Final by going 2-0 for one of the Final spots, while Stanford and Cal State Fullerton battled for the other, with the Cardinals being the victors.

Stanford did not let up later in the day against the Aggies, starching them to 16 hits and 13 runs to force a winner to take all game. This situation gave Coach Schlossnagle a flashback when coaching TCU and Texas blew them out 14-1 in a game run, then bounced back to beat the Longhorns 4-1 in the winner-take-all game. The Aggies hope to mirror that same success in their game Sunday night.

Alabama baseball hammers Boston College 8-0 to advance to Super Regionals

Alabama baseball shuts out Boston College 8-0, advancing the Super Regionals!

For the first time since the 2010 season, the Alabama baseball team has advanced to Super Regionals of the NCAA Tournament! The Crimson Tide earned its advancement with an 8-0 beatdown of the Boston College Eagles late Sunday night.

Alabama scored four first-inning runs to give the Tide some breathing room and put the game out of reach for the Eagles.

Mac Guscette led the offensive charge for Alabama going 3-4 with four RBIs. Ace pitcher Jacob McNairy was spectacular in his start tossing 7.2 innings and allowing just three hits while striking out 11.

Next up for the Tide are the Super Regionals in Winston Salem where they will take on No. 1 overall seed Wake Forest.

How to Watch: Baseball Texas A&M vs Stanford (NCAA Stanford Regional)

How to Watch: Baseball Texas A&M vs Stanford (NCAA Stanford Regional)

The Aggies advanced to the Regional final by beating Stanford 8-5 a little under 24 hrs ago and will have to do it again Sunday night. The Cardinals earned their rematch by defeating the Cal State Fullerton Titans 6-5.

If Texas A&M wins Sunday night, they will move to the super regional with a chance to possibly take on Texas again. A loss means they will play an elimination game on Monday. I expect a tight game. Even though Stanford is coming off just a few hours of rest, they are ranked in the top ten for a reason. The Aggies should probably through the kitchen sink at The Cardinals because they are a team you do not want to see in an elimination scenario.

GAME SCHEDULE

Regional Final – Stanford – June 4th at approx. 8 pm CT.

Game Recap: Baseball – Texas A&M vs Stanford (NCAA Regional)

Hunter Haas comes up big the 8-5 victory pushing the Aggies past the No. 6 Stanford Cardinals

Texas A&M is hitting its groove now, having won eight of the last ten games. The most encouraging thing about the run has been the pitching along that stretch. They rode that momentum into the game against the top-ten-ranked Stanford Cardinals. After falling behind early, the Aggies woke up and scored six runs over the last half of the game to pull away with a 12-7 victory.

After putting one on the board in the first inning, the Aggies pitchers struggled slightly, giving up four runs heading into the fourth. Brett Minnich stopped the leaking with a game-altering double that allowed Austin Bost to score, cutting the deficit to 2-4.

Hunter Haas would be responsible for the subsequent five runs as he hit a double in the sixth, scoring Max Kaufer and Minnich. Then in the eighth, with a tied game, Haas hit another double down the left-field line to bring three more Aggies across the plate for a 7-4 lead.

A&M added one more insurance run in the top of the ninth, extending the lead to 8-4. It wouldn’t be an Aggie game if there weren’t a little drama to close out the game, and the two out-pitching issues the Aggies had earlier in the season made a brief appearance at the end of this one. After retiring the first two batters, Troy Wansing walked a batter after a 12-pitch at-bat, then hit the next batter for two free bases. The next batter hit a single for the Cardinal’s lone inning run, and Coach Schloss brought Matt Dillard to close the game.

He hit the first batter he faced loading the bases and putting the winning run at the plate. Fortunately for the Maroon & White, Dillard induced a pop-up for the final out of the game.

Final Score: Aggies 8, Cardinals 5 – W: Garcia, Brandyn (3-3); L: Drew Dowd (9-3); S: Wansing, Troy (2)

Texas A&M will face the winner of the Stanford/Cal State Fullerton game at 8 pm on Sunday, June 4. The game can be viewed on ESPN+

Texas’ 4-1 win over Miami puts team one win from the super regionals

After beating Miami, Texas is one win away from the super regionals.

Dylan Campbell is having a historic season. The versatile outfielder extended his 37-game hitting streak with a two-run home run in the first inning. The moonshot put the Longhorns up early over the No. 9 Miami Hurricanes. It was effectively all Texas from there.

Lebarron Johnson Jr. pitched a complete game on Saturday night to secure the victory. Johnson allowed just one run to the vaunted Miami offense in 9 innings. While in control for the majority of the game, the redshirt sophomore made the pitches necessary to put Texas in the driver’s seat in the Coral Gables Region.

The current team has come a long way since its poor opening to the season. Though less talented than the 2022 squad, perhaps this group is playing with more poise than that team.

The Longhorns have controlled their first two ballgames of the tournament. Now they are one win away from the next round. Texas (2-0) will face the winner of Louisiana (1-1) and Miami (1-1) with a chance to advance on Sunday evening.
