Texas A&M baseball will officially host a Regional in the NCAA Tournament

Texas A&M will officially host a Regional in the NCAA Tournament

Make your plans, Aggie fans, because Texas A&M (44-13) has officially been selected to host a regional in this week’s NCAA Tournament. The Aggies are one of 16 seeds that will host after finishing the season with an impressive 44 wins and 19 victories in SEC play.

However, the Aggies’ finish to the regular season features notable struggles at the plate, as the offense failed to find consistency in two consecutive SEC losses to LSU and Ole Miss before finally re-establishing their power-hitting identity against the Arkansas Razorbacks to finish out the season.

Winning two out of three games, A&M’s 14-4 game three victory over the Razorbacks didn’t create any momentum in the SEC Tournament, but SEC Freshman of the year Gavin Grahovac may have had the best quote of the year heading into the postseason:

“We’ve had a rough few weeks, but we’re still the Aggies, and we’re going to continue to play Aggie baseball.”

On Monday afternoon, the Selection show will reveal who the Aggies will face in the College Station Regional at 11:00 a.m. CT. on ESPN2.

Tigers avoid Gamecocks in Sunday morning Field of 64 tournament projections

Here are the new NCAA Baseball Tournament Field of 64 projections from both D1Baseball and Baseball America as of Sunday morning.

Anyone hoping to avoid Clemson vs. South Carolina in the regional round of the 2024 NCAA Baseball Tournament may be in luck.

The new postseason Field of 64 projections from both D1Baseball and Baseball America Sunday morning see the Tigers (41-14 overall) missing the Gamecocks (36-23) in the on-site Clemson Regional.

D1Baseball forecasts South Carolina to be in the Chapel Hill Regional as one of the three teams joining projected No. 3 national seed North Carolina. Baseball America sees the Gamecocks in a projected Raleigh Regional that includes NC State, the projected No. 10 seed and host site.

Clemson is still the No. 6 national seed in both D1Baseball and Baseball America projections, meaning that if the Tigers win their four-team, double-elimination regional, they’d host a best-of-three Super Regional at Doug Kingsmore Stadium with a trip to the College World Series in Omaha on the line.

D1Baseball sees the Tigers welcoming the San Diego Toreros (40-13), Florida Gators (28-27) and Bryant Bulldogs (36-19) to the Clemson Regional. Both San Diego and Bryant won their respective conference tournaments on Saturday to receive automatic bids to the tournament.

Baseball America also sees San Diego in its projected Clemson Regional, but with James Madison (34-23) and Sacred Heart (35-22) as the teams making the trek to Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

The 16 regional host sites for the tournament will be unveiled at 8:30 p.m. EDT Sunday. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show will air live on ESPN2 Monday at noon.

It’s Clemson vs. South Carolina in this Field of 64 projection for NCAA Tournament

Ready for another round of Clemson vs. South Carolina? It may soon be happening.

Ready for another round of Clemson vs. South Carolina in the NCAA Baseball Tournament?

It may soon be happening, according to the latest Field of 64 projections for the 64-team postseason from D1Baseball.

The Tigers (41-14 overall) held as a top-eight national seed (No. 6 overall) in D1Baseball’s updated postseason outlook Saturday. The Gamecocks are D1Baseball’s projected No. 2 seed for the four-team, double-elimination Clemson Regional.

South Carolina, which defeated Alabama and Arkansas at the SEC Tournament this week, is paired with College of Charleston and Samford as the three teams projected by D1Baseball to join the host Tigers at the on-site regional at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Clemson-South Carolina is one of the best rivalries in college baseball. The two teams have a rich postseason history, having met twice at the College World Series in Omaha (in 2002 and 2010).

The Gamecocks got the best of the Tigers both times in Omaha, beating Clemson twice in the 2002 semifinals to advance to the championship game against eventual national champion Texas.

Eight years later, the Gamecocks again beat the Tigers twice in the semifinals to meet UCLA in the best-of-three CWS Finals. South Carolina went on to beat the Bruins to win the first of two back-to-back national championships under former coach Ray Tanner. Clemson hasn’t made a College World Series appearance since 2010.

The two teams meet annually in the regular season. Clemson won both games against the Gamecocks this season by identical 5-4 scores in a rain-shortened series back in early March.

Baseball America also had the Tigers as the No. 6 overall seed in their updated postseason projections Saturday. Unlike D1Baseball, Baseball America has the Tigers projected to host Texas, James Madison and Florida A&M at the Clemson Regional.

Tennessee remained the No. 1 overall seed in both D1Baseball and Baseball America’s updated projections Saturday.

The unveiling of the 16 NCAA Tournament regional host sites is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EDT Sunday. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show will air live on ESPN2 Monday at noon.

New Field of 64 projection sees Clemson baseball hosting familiar opponents in regional

Clemson baseball is a top eight national seed in Baseball America’s new Field of 64 projections for the 2024 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament.

The Clemson Tigers seem like a safe bet to finish as a top eight national seed for the 2024 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament.

With the regular season complete and Selection Monday less than a week away to determine the Field of 64 that will compete for a spot in the College World Series in Omaha, the Tigers are ranked in the top five in two of the major Top 25 polls, including the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll.

In its new Field of 64 projections for the postseason, Baseball America has Clemson as its No. 6 overall national seed, one spot behind Arkansas and one ahead of Oklahoma. If that holds, the Tigers would host a best-of-three Super Regional — if they win their four-team, double-elimination on-site regional.

In Baseball America’s updated projections Tuesday, Clemson would welcome Alabama, UNC Greensboro and Presbyterian to Doug Kingsmore Stadium for its Clemson Regional.

The Tigers beat Presbyterian twice in the regular season and swept UNC Greensboro back on March 10. Alabama is the No. 7 seed in the SEC Tournament and was a consistent Top 25 team for much of the season prior to this week.

Tennessee was projected No. 1 overall among the top eight national seeds by Baseball America. North Carolina was projected No. 2 with Texas A&M at No. 3 and Kentucky at No. 4. The Volunteers have been No. 1 in every major Top 25 ranking for three consecutive weeks.

Clemson won the ACC Atlantic Division title and will be a No. 2 seed in this week’s ACC Tournament in Charlotte. The Tigers will face Miami at 11 a.m. EDT Thursday. The game can be seen on ACC Network. Clemson won two of three against the Hurricanes in the teams’ regular-season series in Miami on Easter Weekend.

Clemson baseball ‘pretty secure’ as top eight national seed in new Field of 64

A look at where Clemson baseball is projected in On3’s latest Field of 64.

The Clemson Tigers enter the week ranked in the top five of two of the major college baseball Top 25 polls and are a No. 2 seed at this week’s ACC Baseball Tournament in Charlotte.

According to On3’s latest Field of 64 projections for the postseason, that should be enough for the Tigers (40-13 overall, 20-10 conference) to lock in a spot as a top eight national seed for the 2024 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament on Selection Monday, May 27.

On3 kept Clemson as a No. 6 overall seed following the Tigers’ three-game sweep of Boston College to close the regular season over the weekend. Clemson had been as high as a projected No. 2 overall seed earlier this spring but dropped two of three to NC State in April before being swept at Wake Forest on May 12.

Still, the Tigers appear to be a safe bet to host a best-of-three Super Regional at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, provided they win their on-site regional.

Per On3’s Jonathan Wagner:

The top six hosts feel pretty secure this week, with a gap between them and the next group of teams. Clemson is in the top six right now and it would be pretty surprising if they fell below that. The Tigers are No. 7 in RPI and finished 20-10 in the ACC this season. Also in the Clemson Regional is Louisiana, UNC Wilmington and Florida A&M.

Tennessee (46-10 overall), ranked No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll for the third consecutive week Monday, earned the top overall seed in On3’s projections ahead of conference tournament play.

Kentucky was the projected No. 2 seed with North Carolina the No. 3 seed. Texas A&M is On3’s projected No. 4 seed with Arkansas the No. 5 seed. Both the Aggies and Razorbacks spent time at No. 1 in the coaches poll this year.

Clemson will begin ACC Tournament play at Truist Field Thursday when the Tigers face Miami, followed by Louisville on Friday. Coach Erik Bakich’s team took two of three games from both the Hurricanes and Cardinals in regular-season play.

ACC regular-season champion North Carolina is the tournament’s No. 1 seed. The Tigers and Tar Heels did not meet in the regular season.

All games of the ACC Tournament will be televised by ACC Network with the exception of Sunday’s championship game on ESPN2. Each game will also air live on SiriusXM satellite radio Channel 371 for subscribers.

Clemson baseball faces tougher Regional draw in new projections

Where Clemson ranks in On3’s new Field of 64 projections for the 2024 NCAA Baseball Tournament.

The Clemson Tigers’ weekend series sweep at No. 9 Wake Forest cost them a few spots in the latest Top 25 rankings and USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll.

It’s no surprise then that Clemson also fell in On3’s latest Field of 64 projections for the 2024 NCAA Baseball Tournament.

The Tigers still check in as a top eight national seed for the postseason, but they fell from a No. 3 overall seed to No. 6 after being outscored 25-10 over the weekend by a resurgent Wake Forest team that has won nine straight games.

Three teams moved ahead of Clemson in On3’s latest projections. North Carolina, which sits atop the ACC standings with one weekend series remaining in conference play, grabbed the No. 3 national seed in On3’s new postseason outlook. Kentucky is projected as the overall No. 1 national seed.

Arkansas and Tennessee also shot past the Tigers for higher projected national seeds this week. The Volunteers and Razorbacks are ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the new coaches poll, respectively.

Per On3’s Jonathan Wagner:

“Clemson is no longer our projected ACC winner, but still is a pretty safe top eight seed in this week’s Field of 64 projections. The Tigers are 37-13 overall, 17-10 in the ACC and No. 7 in RPI, and finish the regular season with a home series against Boston College. Also in the Clemson Regional is Alabama, Troy and Florida A&M.”

Clemson still has time to make a case for itself as a higher national seed, of course. To that end, the Tigers can start by taking care of business against a Boston College team that on paper is the worst in the ACC this season at 22-26 overall and 8-19 in conference play.

Then there’s the ACC Baseball Tournament, which Clemson won a season ago. Winning the conference championship in Charlotte would certainly boost the Tigers’ prospects heading into the NCAA Tournament.

The final Field of 64 that will compete for a berth in the College World Series in Omaha will be unveiled on Selection Monday, May 27 at noon EDT.

Clemson faces Coastal Carolina in midweek play Tuesday in Conway. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT. The game can be seen on ESPN+.

SEC team jumps past Clemson baseball in new postseason projections

A look at where the Clemson Tigers baseball team is projected in the latest Field of 64 projections.

The Clemson baseball team appears to be on solid footing as it heads into the stretch run of the season.

The Tigers won their seventh of eight series in conference play over the past weekend when they took two of three from a hot-hitting Georgia Tech team. Coach Erik Bakich’s club followed that up with a wild 14-12 win over Charlotte in non-conference play Tuesday night.

When both Texas A&M and Arkansas — previously ranked Nos. 1 and 2, respectively — dropped their weekend series, it allowed Clemson to vault past both teams to No. 2 in the new D1Baseball Top 25 poll this week. Tennessee moved to No. 1 in every major poll, including the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll.

But the Volunteers weren’t the SEC team that jumped past the Tigers for a higher national seed in the new Field of 64 projections for the 2024 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament from both On3 and Baseball America. That was Kentucky, which took two of three against Arkansas on Sunday.

In Baseball America’s latest postseason outlook, the Wildcats are the new projected No. 1 national seed for the tournament. Clemson stayed as the No. 3 seed in BA’s projections, one spot behind Texas A&M. Baseball America forecasts the Tigers to host UNC Wilmington, UNC Greensboro and Army in a four-team, double-elimination Clemson Regional to kick off the tournament.

On3 kept the Tigers as a No. 3 seed in their projections as well. But like Baseball America, On3 also moved Kentucky past Clemson in its latest postseason outlook.

Still, On3’s Jonathan Wagner notes that Clemson is “in the driver’s seat” with two weekends remaining in the regular season.

Per Wagner:

“Clemson prevailed over the weekend in a series win over Georgia Tech, putting them at 17 ACC wins and tied at the top of the league standings. The Tigers are 36-10 overall and No. 4 in RPI, and have a legitimate chance to finish as one of the top three seeds. This weekend at Wake Forest is massive, but Clemson looks to be in the driver’s seat for a top four or five seed at the least. Also in the Clemson Regional is San Diego, Charleston and Presbyterian.”

The final field of 64 that will make up the NCAA Tournament and compete for a berth in the College World Series in Omaha will be unveiled on Selection Monday, May 27 at noon EDT.

The Tigers’ three-game weekend set in Winston-Salem begins Friday with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT. The game can be seen on ACC Network Extra (ACCNX).

The Texas Longhorns’ last appearance in the CWS remains a 10-2 loss to Texas A&M

After losing to Stanford, Texas’s last appearance in the College World Series remains a 10-2 loss to Texas A&M last season.

Bragging rights in college sports between bitter rivals sometimes matters more than recent wins and losses in some cases, and after the Texas Longhorns, who were one win away from their second consecutive appearance in the College World Series, were eliminated by the Super Regional host Stanford on Monday night.

Tied 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth with a man in scoring position, Stanford’s Drew Bower skied a ball into center field, which to all of our surprise, led to Texas’s Eric Kennedy being blinded by the stadium lights, as the ball painfully dropped to the ground resulting in a walk-off RBI single for the Cardinal, who are back to their second CWS appearance with the victory.

This could have happened to anyone, especially in a night game when most stadium lighting will affect vision in reflection with the night sky. Still, for all the outside flack Texas A&M and head coach Jim Schlossnagle have received this season, their successful run in the SEC Tournament combined with a solid showing in the Regional before falling to the better Stanford team is something to be proud of, no matter the final result. And for anyone out there criticizing Kennedy for the mistake, TexAgs’ Ryan Brauninger said it best.

However, the Aggies still hold one advantage on the diamond over the Texas fanbase that is probably still sulking as of today; Texas’s last appearance in the College World Series remains a 10-2 loss to Texas A&M, and as I stated in a previous article, strategically avoiding The Longhorns only to watch them lose to the same Stanford team that booted them from the Tournament just a week prior was not only genius but makes for one heck of a reunion on the gridiron in 2024.

Call this petty if you must, but facts are facts, and until these two teams meet again in any capacity, trash-talking on Twitter is something you all can do in your spare time. Gig ’em, and BTHO off-season.

How to watch Alabama baseball vs. Wake Forest in NCAA Super Regional on Sunday

How to watch game two of Alabama baseball vs. Wake Forest in the 2023 NCAA Super Regional from Winston Salem, North Carolina on Saturday.

The Alabama baseball team is now in a win-or-go-home state following Saturday’s heartbreaking loss to Wake Forest 5-4.

The Crimson Tide went toe-to-toe with the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament but eventually fell short in its effort to upset the Demon Deacons.

Game two is set for Sunday, and the Crimson Tide will need to win in order to force a decisive game three in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

With the first pitch coming up in a few hours, here is everything you need to know to catch all of the action between No. 16 Alabama and No. 1 Wake Forest in the NCAA Super Regionals.

Texas uses 9th inning comeback to beat Stanford, 7-5

A five-run ninth inning helped Texas past Stanford in Game 1 of the super regional.

Texas won a thriller over Stanford on Saturday night. It needed late-game heroics to get it done.

The Longhorns didn’t play very good baseball for much of the game. Early on the team looked tense and consumed with the importance of the matchup for the series.

Texas starting pitcher Lucas Gordon struggled for his own standards on the night. He didn’t get rocked by any means allowing just three runs in the outing. He simply missed on a couple pitches and Stanford made him pay.

The Texas bats were quiet for most of the game, but were helped by the Stanford defense in the ninth inning. A bases-loaded error plated two Longhorns and closed the deficit to 5-4. An RBI groundout tied the game at 5 before Porter Brown gave Texas the lead with a clutch two-RBI single with two outs.

It’s difficult to overstate the significance of the win for Texas. The Longhorns will face Stanford’s staff ace in Game 2. Fortunately the team won’t be on the brink of elimination.

Texas will look to advance to the College World Series with a win on Sunday.
