Here’s how to get NBA League Pass for free just by voting on Jayson Tatum’s shoes

I know this doesn’t sound real. But it actually works, y’all.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, it looks like the promotion is no longer available. It was too good to be true. Great run, though.

Getting NBA League Pass is always enticing for basketball fans.

Obviously, for me as someone who covers the NBA, it’s necessary to watch as many games as I do. But for someone who is just sort of a casual viewer? Yeah, I could totally understand why you’d pass on it.

It’s a bit expensive and can be buggy at times, which is a bit frustrating when you’re paying more than $200 a year for a product. But don’t worry. You’re in luck.

Because, apparently, just voting on a colorway for Jayson Tatum’s new signature shoes can get you NBA League Pass for free for the next year.

Yes, I’m dead serious. It works. It’s real. I did it myself just to make sure.

NBA offers free year promotion for NBA League Pass Premium

Want a free year of NBA League Pass Premium? In a new promotion, the NBA is offering it to fans if they vote on Jayson Tatum’s All-Star Game sneakers.

If you’re outside of the Houston market and want to watch the Rockets (or in-market and wanting to watch other NBA teams), the league has a temporary deal for fans with excellent value.

By signing into NBA.com and voting for Jayson Tatum’s All-Star shoes in Sunday’s game, the league is offering free NBA League Pass Premium for a full calendar year (to February 2025). The promotion appears to only be valid for U.S. users, and for a limited time.

Features of an NBA League Pass Premium subscription include the following, according to the league:

  • Watch games commercial free on three devices at a time, and get access to in-arena streams.

The free promotion, which is also available by using the promo code ALLSTARTATUM after selecting the monthly version of League Pass (for 12 months), does require fans to enter a credit card.

However, there is no charge until February 2025, and fans can immediately cancel their subscription via the website or mobile app while still retaining full access to NBA League Pass for 12 months. This way, fans will not have to remember to cancel a year from now.

The promotion is available here, and it can be accessed through both desktop and mobile browsers. However, it is only available for a limited time, since the All-Star Game is played on Sunday, Feb. 18.

Editor’s note: As of Thursday afternoon, Feb. 15, the promotion appears to have ended.

The NBA just added an extremely weird feature to its app and everyone rightfully turned it into a meme

Why is this a thing?????

You won’t find a more connected sports league out there than the NBA. I mean, think about it. They do everything possible to put their games in your face, right?

They just slashed the price of League Pass this year — thankfully. The league’s highlights are also always widely available on social media platforms, so anybody can check out the action from the previous night at any time.

I’m thankful for all of that. Truly, I am. It’s been this way for a while and it’s helped me and so many others become more passionate fans of the game.

But you know what I didn’t ask for? This new feature the league is adding to their NBA app.

Apparently, you can scan yourself and literally put yourself in the game. Honestly, describing it doesn’t do it justice. You have to see it for yourself

Y’all. Adam Silver really just dropped Ahmad Rashad into Talen Horton-Tucker’s body. That’s a real sentence I just typed.

Uh, this is cool, I guess, if you’re into this sort of thing. You basically create your avatar and you copy and paste it onto someone else’s body. So if you ever wanted to watch yourself dunk, I guess this is your time?  This is going to work really well for the 10-year-olds out there who really just want to be LeBron James for a night.

Hate to tell you this, NBA, but no one asked for this. If I wanted to dunk the ball with Talen Horton-Tucker, I’d just play NBA 2k. I’m sorry.

Everybody on the internet made this into a meme. And rightfully so. Again — nobody asked for this. Not a soul. So what else is there to do with it? Exactly.

NBA slashes League Pass price for 2022-23 season, meaning it’ll be cheaper than ever to follow your bets live

Spending less money on monthly streaming means additional money to place monthly on bets.

Great news, NBA fans!

In a world of rising streaming service costs, the NBA is doing your wallet a little favor this year.

Ahead of the 2022-23 season, the league is dropping its NBA League Pass subscription packages from top to bottom, as reported first by Jacob Feldman of Sportico.

The standard package will now reportedly be offered for $99 annually, which is down from its $230 price tag last season. And the premium package also drops from $280 last season to $129.99.

A price cut comes as a bit of a surprise as the NBA League Pass subscriptions increased significantly during the 2021-22 season.

Streamable’s Matt Tamanini explains the reasoning behind the decision:

Despite seeing a 30% increase in subscriptions last season, League Pass is seemingly lowering its price in order to stay more in line with other streaming services. ESPN+ upped its subscription rates by 43% earlier this month, but still only comes in at $9.99 per month or $99.99 annually.

In addition to keeping up with the competition, I can’t help but think about this move from a sports betting angle.

Perhaps it wasn’t the NBA’s motive, but more affordable prices will only further grow the number of subscribers. More subscribers mean more engagement, which could mean more participation in gambling, something that the league has continued to push publicly in recent years.

I know I’ll be tuning in to track my NBA futures bets. But even if you’re not a gambling person, the service becoming more affordable is a huge win for fans everywhere.

Good move, NBA.
