Michigan State football announces walk-on tryout date

Michigan State football announces walk-on tryout date

Michigan State football has had some great success with walk-on players over the years, with a very notable one, Jack Conklin, still making big money in the NFL. The next big MSU walk-on might be discovered soon, as the Spartans will hold walk-on tryouts on September 2nd at 10:00am EST.

You must be a full-time MSU student to participate.

Jaden Mangham says Michigan football is ‘different’ than Michigan State

Jaden Mangham says Michigan football is ‘different’ than Michigan State

Former Michigan State football safety Jaden Mangham, who transferred to rival Michigan this offseason, was on a show with Sam Webb of TheMichiganInsider this week, and for the first time, he talked about the differences in his new home with MSU’s biggest rival.

You can see Mangham’s comments below, presented without comment:

“My experience has been great,” Mangham said. “You know, coming in, I could tell it was different. Like, doing things — the lifts, workouts, just running, seeing how people carried themselves, seeing how people prepare, you know? Seeing that, it was different. There were some guys who did do a little bit of that but, you know, it’s just so much more here.”

“I talk to a lot of the guys — Alex [Orji], Will [Johnson], all of them, Makari [Paige], Colston [Loveland]. I talk to a lot of them just to see how everything’s going, making sure I’m doing good, which I appreciate,” Mangham said. “But, you know, just coming in here, it’s been different and they’ve been helping me a lot. The resources that are here, they’re amazing. So, I’m taking advantage of everything that I have here, using it for my success so I can become an even better player and a better person.”

Michigan safety Makari Paige had this to say about his new teammate:

“Yeah we’ve embraced him with love, for sure,” Paige said. “Convos be like, just joking on Michigan State, for real. Like, yeah, got y’alls butt whooped 49-0 — something like that.”

Michigan State basketball announces 2024-25 season opener date, opponent

Michigan State basketball announces 2024-25 season opener date, opponent

Michigan State basketball started their 2023-24 season with an unceremonious loss to James Madison, a team that became one of the darlings of the college basketball season. This year, Tom Izzo has lined up an opponent that will, presumably, be a less formidable match-up.

The Spartans will start their 2024-25 season with a game against Niagara of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Nov. 7.

A Wild Notre Dame-Michigan State Rivalry Stat

Almost always a lot on the line when Notre Dame and Michigan State meet up…

Although we’ve known for a while that Notre Dame and Michigan State were set to renew their rivalry in 2026 and 2027, Thursday gave us the dates of those games.

As those were announced, the Notre Dame athletic department released a statement about the games that included some rather basic historical notes that most Notre Dame and Michigan State fans are already aware of.

There was one that especially jumped out near the bottom of the release, however.

A highly competitive series, which features the legendary 10-10 tie when top-ranked Michigan State and second-ranked Notre Dame met in East Lansing during the 1966 season, the last 64 meetings between the Irish and Spartans have featured at least one Associated Press ranked team

I didn’t fact check it because I trust the staff at Notre Dame to have done their work and gotten that right, but that’s flat-out crazy.

Notre Dame leads the all-time series with Michigan State, 47-29-1.

We ranked the 40 best players of the Tom Izzo era at Michigan State basketball

We are quickly coming up on Tom Izzo’s thirtieth season as head coach of the Michigan State basketball team, and what a ride it’s been. Izzo and his Spartans have long been a program known for defense, rebounding, and transition offense. But they’ve also produced some incredibly talented scorers and all-around players during Izzo’s tenure.

Which begs the question: who are the best players that Tom Izzo ever coached?

Below, we ranked the top-40 best players that Tom Izzo ever had the opportunity to coach, some of which may surprise you, or jog your memory. Although, I think No. 1 probably shouldn’t be much of a surprise.

You can check them out below.

Michigan State football OL J.D. Duplain invited to New York Giants rookie minicamp

Another Michigan State football player has found a landing spot and opportunity at the next level. MSU offensive lineman J.D. Duplain received an invite to attend the New York Giants’ rookie mini-camp, which is a good opportunity to eventually end up on their practice squad if he impresses.

We had heard that Duplain was one of the Spartans garnering some interest from NFL teams earlier this month.

Michigan State women’s basketball lands commitment from Ball State transfer Nyla Hampton

Michigan State women’s basketball lands commitment from Ball State transfer Nyla Hampton

Robyn Fralick has been busy adding to her Michigan State women’s basketball team. The Spartans have now added four transfers with the commitment of Ball State transfer Nyla Hampton on Friday and the commitment of Jaddan Simmons on Saturday.

Nyla Hampton, who was part of Robyn Fralick’s team at Bowling Green before she transferred to Ball State, averaged 8.7 points per game to go along with 4.8 assists and 3.3 steal for the Cardinals.

Combine that with Jaddan Simmons, Grace Vanslooten and Emma Shumate and the Spartans are looking dangerous next year.

Michigan State football WR Antonio Gates Jr. withdraws from NCAA transfer portal

Antonio Gates Jr. withdraws from NCAA transfer portal

Michigan State football lost a former 4-star wide receiver a few days ago, or so they thought. Antonio Gates Jr. entered the NCAA transfer portal on April 22, but withdrew his name from the portal on April 26.

Gates is entering his redshirt sophomore season with the Spartans.
