MRI confirms Chris Carson’s injury is only a minor knee sprain

An MRI has confirmed that Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson only sustained a minor knee sprain Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys

The Seattle Seahawks received some good news Monday morning, indicating their starting running back, Chris Carson, did not sustain a major injury in Sunday’s matchup after all.

Carson was rolled up on during the game and the fear was that the injury was significant.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the good news via Twitter.

“Sigh of relief for the Seahawks: An MRI confirmed RB Chris Carson’s ligaments are intact and it’s just a minor knee sprain, source said,” Pelissero tweeted. “In fact, he’s got a chance to be ready for this week’s game at Miami.”

Coach Pete Carroll should have additional updates and confirmation on Carson’s status this afternoon during his 3:00 p.m. press conference.

WATCH: Anthony Davis’ MRI comes back clean

Lakers star Anthony Davis is in the clear after a scary moment Tuesday night.

Lakers star Anthony Davis is in the clear after a scary moment Tuesday night.

He went up for a block in the third quarter against the New York Knicks and came down directly on his lower back, leaving him writhing in pain until he was helped off the court.

But as bad as it looked, he seems to be in the clear. The Athletic’s Shams Charania tweeted Wednesday morning that Davis’ MRI came back clear and that his injury has been classified as a bruise:

Davis has been at the center of the Lakers’ 30-7 season, leading the team with 27.1 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game.

Report: MRI results confirm Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny has torn ACL

MRI results confirm Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny actually tore his ACL Week 14 against the Los Angeles Rams Sunday night.

Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny suffered a knee injury Week 14 in the team’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams and was unable to return to the lineup Sunday night.

After the game, coach Pete Carroll told reporters the initial medical tests revealed Penny has sustained a “significant” ACL sprain.

During his Monday afternoon press conference, Carroll had yet to receive the MRI results and was unable to provide any further updates.

A new report from NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport now confirms Penny has actually suffered a torn ACL.

Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny tore his ACL in last night’s loss to the Rams and is out for the season, source said,” Rapoport tweeted later Monday afternoon. “The MRI confirmed the news for the former first-round pick, who also has additional damage to his knee. He’s out until training camp. Tough injury.”

Backup running backs C.J. Prosise and Travis Homer are expected to step up in Penny’s absence to assist starter, Chris Carson.

The Seahawks have an off day Tuesday and Carroll and the rest of the staff have no scheduled media availability until Wednesday before practice.

Seahawks rookie Cody Barton to have MRI on his knee

Seattle Seahawks rookie linebacker Cody Barton suffered a pair of injuries on Sunday night, and is having an MRI done on his knee.

The Seattle Seahawks saw their already thin linebacker group take another hit on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams.

Starting in place of Mychal Kendricks (hamstring), rookie Cody Barton suffered both a knee and ankle injury and is scheduled to have an MRI on Monday, according to coach Pete Carroll.

“He strained his knee a little bit and [had] a little bit of an ankle thing,” Carroll said on 710 ESPN’s Pete Carroll show. “We gotta figure that out. He’s gonna get an MRI today to find out where he is. He was able to go back in the game, tough as nails and finished it, but I don’t know.”

Barton had a big role on Sunday, appearing on 58 defensive snaps (83 percent) as well as 16 snaps on the special teams. He came out after getting hurt in the fourth quarter but returned after just a few plays, apparently playing through the knee strain.

He finished with four combined tackles and one pass defended.

Barton’s health will be a big factor this week, as Kendricks may not make it back in time for Sunday’s game against the Panthers. Additionally, WILL linebacker K.J. Wright suffered a dislocated finger on Sunday, although Carroll expects him to be fine by next week.

If neither Kendricks or Barton are able to play, expect fellow rookie Ben Burr-Kirven to step into a starting role on defense.

Seattle could also opt to use their nickel package – which only requires two linebackers – a lot more as well.

Check back throughout the week for updates on Seattle’s injuries before they head South to take on the Panthers in their final road game of the season.

Report: Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill’s hamstring strain considered ‘minor’

Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill’s MRI appears to have revealed the best possible scenario for his hamstring strain.

The Kansas City Chiefs appear to have received some good news about star wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Hill’s hamstring strain suffered in the Week 11 win over the Chargers is considered minor. Hill was set to have an MRI on his hamstring to determine the grade of the sprain. The MRI seems to have revealed the best possible outcome.

Rapoport likened this to an injury that would occur in training camp. He also said Hill is considered day-to-day with the injury. Don’t worry, this isn’t Eric Berry’s “day-to-day.” Hill is likely to miss no time at all with the bye week for Kansas City occurring in Week 12. He’ll have a full seven days of rest, including today, before the next practice.

It’s no surprise that Hill wanted to go back in against the Chargers. He’s a top-notch competitor, and his injury didn’t seem all that bad when it occurred. The team training staff allowed him back onto the field, but he didn’t have his helmet, suggesting they decided to take the cautious approach. He was seen pacing the sideline during the game and talking to wide receivers coach Greg Lewis. Hill likely petitioned to get back into the game but also provided some of his insight to the coaching staff.

At the end of it, the Chiefs didn’t need Hill to seal the victory in Mexico City. However, it was clear that Hill was an integral part of the game plan and is key to defeating man-to-man coverage. They’ll need him healthy for the next five weeks if they’re to get back to doing what they like to do on offense.
