Chiefs C Creed Humphrey says Colts loss is motivating factor in Week 4 preparation

#Chiefs C Creed Humphrey says the team is ready to turn the page on Week 3, but they’re allowing it to provide a little extra motivation as they prepare for their next opponent.

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off of a disappointing Week 3 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

While the team has turned the page to their Week 4 tilt with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they’re still allowing that Week 3 loss to fuel the work they’re doing this week. No one is happy with the Week 3 performance, from the coaching staff on down. That includes C Creed Humphrey, the anchor of the Chiefs’ offensive line, who says the loss is a motivating factor as the team has hit the practice field this week.

“Yeah, I think anytime that you lose a game like that you’re ready to get that taste out of your mouth,” Humphrey explained. “Everybody’s been – we’ve had a really good week of practice so far. Everybody’s been fired up and really focused and just ready to go out there and try to change that and get back to winning and things like that. So, everybody’s really motivated right now. Everybody’s executing well in practice and we’re practicing with intent which is very good right now.”

There isn’t much that the Chiefs can carry schematically from one game plan to the next. Humphrey feels the biggest thing the team can take from the past week is to just come out and execute better against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“Their schemes aren’t really too similar, but for us, it’s just about executing,” Humphrey said. “That’s what it is for us. We’re going to go out there and make sure we execute better this week.”

Better preparation and better execution should lead to better results, not just on the offensive line, but throughout the whole team as well.

Utah QB Tyler Huntley: “We took it more as a vacation”

During bowl season, the big question is how much motivation each team has. After losing the Pac 12, the same question was asked about Utah.

Every year during bowl season, the big question for some teams is how much motivation each team has and how it will positively or negatively affect them. In last year’s Sugar Bowl, many said the only reason Texas was able to get a victory over Georiga is that the Bulldogs wanted to be in the College Football Playoff, not the Sugar Bowl.

The same was thought after it was announced that Utah would be playing against the Longhorns in the Alamo Bowl. Just like Georgia, the Utes lost in their conference championship game and missed out on the College Football Playoff.

After losing the Alamo Bowl, Utah quarterback Tyler Huntley used that excuse, saying the Utes “took it more as a vacation.”

Texas dominated most of the game on both sides of the ball but especially on the defensive side. The Longhorns held running back Zach Moss to 57 rushing yards and Huntley to under 150 passing yards.

Even if Utah did use their trip to San Antonio as a vacation, they could have had a better showing than what happened. Dominated on both line of scrimmages, killing their drives through penalties, and losing their temper is what cost the Utes the game.

Not being unprepared.
