It’s award season in the NBA and while the awards have not been given out like that they have in the past with the awards show thanks to the pandemic, it is still a celebration of the players who had great seasons in 2019-20.

The award that got some attention was the 6th Man of the Year award that went to Los Angeles Clippers big man Montrezl Harrell. Coming off the bench for 61 of the 63 games he played in, Harrell averaged 18.6 points and 7.1 rebounds. Most thought the award should have gone to Oklahoma City Thunder guard Dennis Schroder, but that is up for debate.

Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson seemed to be perfectly fine with the decision as he gave a shoutout to Harrell on Twitter calling him his “little bro”.

From a basketball perspective, Iverson has always been involved with the league and he has always supported the talent coming up in the NBA. He has shown up to plenty of Sixers gams in support of the younger guys in the past and this shoutout for Harrell is another example of the NBA fraternity. [lawrence-related id=37446,37437,37425]

Dennis Schroder congratulates Sixth Man of the Year Montrezl Harrell

Dennis Schroder harbors no ill will after failing to win the Sixth Man of the Year Award.

Dennis Schroder finished second for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year Award for the 2019-20 season, but there didn’t seem to be any bitterness on the part of the reserve guard toward Montrezl Harrell of the Los Angeles Clippers.

In a fairly tight race, Harrell won the honor, receiving 58 of 100 first-place votes. Schroder received 35, while Harrell’s teammate Lou Williams received the other seven. Harrell ended up with 397 points, narrowly edging Schroder, who ended up with 328 points.

The NBA issued the official release announcing the results on Friday, and on Saturday, Schroder took to his Instagram account to send Harrell a heartfelt congratulations.

“Congrats to my guy @trezz24,” Schroder wrote on his Instagram story.

“Your family is proud of you especially your GrandMa !!! Stay strong she watching over you at all times”

The remarks came after Harrell dedicated the award to his late grandmother on Friday.

“This is for my grandmother, who is not here with me today and isn’t going to be able to see this,” Harrell said to reporters on Friday after the announcement.

“She isn’t going to be able to see me do something that she instilled in me as a young child, a game that she brought to my attention as a young man and I fell in love with and worked my tail off at.”

Schroder, who led all qualifying bench scorers with 18.9 points per game, could have been bitter about the loss, but instead, in the spirit of the NBA’s great fraternity, sent a heartfelt congratulations to Harrell.

Obviously, the reigning Sixth Man of the Year appreciated the gesture.

Report: Montrezl Harrell beats out Dennis Schroder for Sixth Man of the Year award

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Dennis Schroder fell short in Sixth Man of the Year voting as Los Angeles Clippers big Montrezl Harrell has reportedly won.

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Dennis Schroder has fallen short in the Sixth Man of the Year Award voting, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Montrezl Harrell, a center on the Los Angeles Clippers, won the Sixth Man of the Year award, Charania tweeted Friday.

Harrell averaged 18.6 points and 7.1 rebounds in 27.8 minutes per game for the Clippers, who finished in second place in the Western Conference.

He beat out finalists Schroder and Los Angeles Clippers guard Lou Williams.

Schroder was a key piece of the Oklahoma City season. With him coming off the bench, the Thunder were able to keep at least two starting-caliber guards on the floor at almost all times.

When he was on the court with starters Chris Paul and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City dominated. That three-man lineup had the best net rating among all three-man groups this season.

Schroder averaged 18.9 points, 4.0 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting 46.9% from the field and 38.5% from 3, both of which were career-highs.

He had 12 games in the regular season with at least 25 points and four with at least 30.

His impact on Oklahoma City was particularly clear when he was absent during bubble play, back home with his family for the birth of his child. The Thunder oftentimes struggled to score without him leading the charge as a guard when Paul or Gilgeous-Alexander were on the bench.

The NBA had yet to release results at the time of this publication, so voting totals were not publicly known. Charania reported it and ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk confirmed.

This story will be update when the NBA announces the results.

Report: Clippers Montrezl Harrell wins NBA 6th Man of the Year

Clippers big men and Klutch Sports’ own Montrezl Harrell won the award ahead of an important free agency.

Montrezl Harrell of the Los Angeles Clippers will soon be rewarded for his play as the best 6th Man in the NBA this season. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported on Friday afternoon that Harrell will be awarded the 6th Man of the Year award, beating out his teammate Lou Williams and Oklahoma City’s Dennis Schröder.

Harrell will break a streak of nine seasons in which guards won the 6th man of the year award. The last frontcourt player to win 6MOY was Lamar Odom in 2011. And since Harrell has played all of his minutes this season at center, according to Basketball-Reference, Harrell breaks an extensive drought for centers in this award, becoming the first center since Roy Tarpley to win the award in 1988.

Harrell and his Los Angeles Clippers appear to be holding up their end of the bargain in creating the L.A.-L.A. showdown many are hoping for against the Lakers. The Lakers get their chance to move closer to the Conference Finals tonight when they play Harrell’s former team, the Houston Rockets.

Charles Barkley discusses what Montrezl Harrell called Luka Doncic: ‘You don’t get to have a double standard’

“Inside the NBA” weighs in.

The incident from Game 3 of the Dallas Mavericks’ playoff series against the Los Angeles Clippers in which Clippers forward Montrezl Harrell appeared to call Luka Doncic a “(expletive) white boy” ended with Harrell apologizing and the pair hugging it out before Game 4.

But it was still the subject of discussion among NBA fans as well as with the crew on Inside the NBA that resulted in an in-depth and frank conversation.

Kenny Smith was glad Harrell apologized and added, “We all need to break the habit” of using that kind of language. Shaquille O’Neal noted a lot of things are said to competitors on the court, and Charles Barkley pointed out “you can’t have a double standard.”

“The reason he apologized, he shouldn’t have said it,” Barkley added.

Luka Doncic and Montrezl Harrell hugged it out in classy moment before Game 4

Nice to see.

Mavericks star Luka Doncic and Los Angeles Clippers forward Montrezl Harrell got into a heated exchange during Saturday’s Game 3 of the NBA playoffs. And at one point, Harrell appeared to direct a “(expletive) white boy” insult at Doncic.

While Harrell reached out to Doncic — according to Clippers coach Doc Rivers — after the game to apologize for the remark, the two players exchanged pleasantries in person before Sunday’s Game 4.

Harrell, who was heavily criticized for invoking race as an insult, appeared to apologize once again to Doncic. The two players hugged it out before returning back to partake in pregame shootaround.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Rivers said that Doncic was shocked that Harrell felt he needed to reach out to begin with. He said:

“You just have to be careful,” Rivers said. “They both were talking. I don’t think Luka was saying anything racial, but he was swearing. So they both were doing it. It’s an emotional game. It’s a playground game out there in the playoffs. I said to him, ‘Hey, I don’t think you meant anything racially by it.’ He said ‘white boy,’ but I don’t think there was anything racial intended. But we are in a very heightened climate and you have to be careful. Trez was the first one to say that. He said, ‘I didn’t mean that racially.’ And I said it doesn’t matter. It’s what’s perceived … make sure you do the right thing.”

It was good to see that the players were able to talk out the incident and move on.

Jay Williams calls out Montrezl Harrell over exchange with Luka Doncic

Were Montrezl Harrell’s comments a big deal? Or was it normal trash talk?

Jay Williams went after Montrezl Harrell for what he appeared to say to Luka Doncic after the two got into a dustup in Saturday night’s playoff game between the Dallas Mavericks and the L.A. Clippers.

Harrell and Doncic got into a scuffle after the two players tripped each other at the Clippers’ defense end, and Harrell ended up on the court. Doncic told Harrell: “Stop flopping man.” That didn’t sit well with Harrell, who had to be separated from Doncic. After Harrell scored on Doncic later in the game, he appeared to hurl a racially-charged insult at Doncic.

Williams, a retired NBA star and ESPN analyst, put Harrell on blast.

“I am no lip-reader, but damn Trez. Damn Montrezl,” Williams said in a video he posted to Twitter Sunday. “I can only imagine if Luka Doncic had said something like that to you and it got caught on tape. I can only imagine during Black Lives Matter how much of a big deal that would have been, considering today’s climate and state. It would’ve been a massive story, and Luka would’ve lost all credibility in this space. Everybody would’ve been commenting on it. People would’ve asked LeBron (James) about it. People would’ve asked Kawhi (Leonard) about it. Everyone would’ve had some kind of statement about it.

“But it’s not that big of a story, because Trez said it to a caucasian person. It should be a big story, because that’s not acceptable man. Look, I’m a hooper. I talk trash. I cuss people out. We can get into the nuances of whether that’s right or wrong, too, but what you said, involving race into it. And I’ve heard that being said in basketball scenarios and playing hoops in the inner cities. I still didn’t find it acceptable then. I don’t find it acceptable now, especially when cameras are on you 24/7. Get lost in your battle, man. But don’t get lost in saying things like that.”

Here’s a look at the initial exchange between Harrell and Doncic, when the Mavericks guard accused the Clippers forward of flopping after their legs got tangled in transition.

The incident hasn’t made many headlines. In fact, CBS Sports’ Doug Gottlieb brushed off Harrell’s comments by saying “this is not racist. It’s just basketball.” It’s a tough line to draw: Is it normal trash talk, or did Harrell cross the line?

Clippers 6th Man Finalist Montrezl Harrell tweets he’s ‘back’

The Los Angeles Clippers were without their excellent big man as Harrell was mourning the loss of his grandmother.

The Los Angeles Clippers are getting closer to full strength. Despite a loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday, they have some good news regarding their team as they welcomed 6th Man of the Year Finalist Montrezl Harrell into the bubble for the first time. Harrell was mourning the loss of his grandmother and had not been with the team for the past few weeks, tweeted that he is ‘back.’

Clippers coach Doc Rivers did not give any specifics on when the team can expect Harrell back in uniform, but he did say they are hopeful they can get him with some workouts before the playoffs begin next week.

The Clippers have looked pretty good all things considered in the bubble. They were without Lou Williams for their first two games of the bubble and they’ve been without Harrell for the entirety of their stay. Harrell, who is represented by Klutch Sports, will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.

Houston’s Ben McLemore rejoins Klutch Sports for representation

You can always come back home again when one of those homes is Klutch Sports.

Agents and player representatives are technically not allowed in the NBA Bubble, but that isn’t stopping Klutch Sports from making moves and welcoming back a former member of the family.

Klutch Sports Group announced on Monday afternoon that they are once again representing Ben McLemore, who is enjoying a strong season on the Houston Rockets. McLemore is averaging 10 points per game this season, the first time he’s done so while primarily coming off the bench. His only other season averaging over double-digit points came in his second season with the Sacramento Kings, when he started and played in all 82 games.

McLemore has been a consistent part of Mike D’Antoni’s rotation in Houston this season as they’ve gone further into their small ball identity. McLemore’s shot selection has also changed drastically as he is attempting a career-high six 3-pointers per game. McLemore has also maintained an efficient 40 percent shooter from the 3-point line even while drastically increasing his 3-point volume.

Report: Lou Williams told NBA he was indeed at Magic City club in Atlanta

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reports the Clippers guard told the NBA that he was indeed at the famed Atlanta strip club while out of the bubble.

The status of Los Angeles Clippers guard Lou Williams for the season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers could be in doubt. The NBA is investigating the circumstances of Williams’ departure from the bubble, including photos that surfaced earlier this week posted by rapper Jack Harlow, in a mask, with Williams in an undisclosed location. And it turns out that during his excused absence from the NBA bubble, Williams was in fact at the famed Magic City strip club in Atlanta, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.

Shelburne reported late on Saturday night that Williams admitted to the NBA that he did go to the famed Atlanta strip club while in his hometown for a family funeral.

Last night on Twitter, Williams tried to play down the photo that was leaked to social media by suggesting that Magic City is his favorite place to eat in Atlanta, as they are known famously for their lemon pepper wings.

Despite Williams’ reasoning, the leaks on the internet aren’t helping his case and it will ultimately be up to the NBA how long he will be required to quarantine after arriving back at Disney World. As of now, it’s possible that Williams won’t be able to play in next Thursday’s opening-night battle against LeBron James and the Lakers.
