LeBron James put an end to his nonsensical trade rumors with a statement from agent Rich Paul

Despite the rumors, the Lakers were never going to trade LeBron James.

Despite the rumors, the Los Angeles Lakers were never going to trade LeBron James unless he demanded to get moved to a specific team.

Even though there was wild speculation after James posted a cryptic emoji earlier this week, there was virtually no chance the Los Angeles front office would trade the four-time NBA Finals MVP unless he explicitly demanded a move.

With less than a week to go before the trade deadline, James’ longtime agent Rich Paul quieted those rumors by confirming to Brian Windhorst that such a request would not happen (via ESPN):

“LeBron won’t be traded, and we aren’t asking to be,” Paul said in reaction to some growing speculation about James’ future ahead of next week’s trade deadline.

Perhaps it is unusual to hear an agent declare that his client will not get traded, but James and Klutch Sports have enough power within the franchise that this likely ends the rumors.

While a trade seemed out of the question, it wasn’t entirely far-fetched to believe James was frustrated about the level of performance the Lakers have had this season.

For what it is worth: James has a player option in his contract that would allow him to become a free agent at the end of the season. He has made it abundantly clear that his goal is to play with his son, Bronny, once the USC freshman turns pro.

Although that means the Lakers could potentially risk losing James for nothing in free agency, any team that would trade for him would also have that same fear.

Arguably most importantly: It is unlikely that the 39-year-old NBA star (or anyone in his family) would want to relocate to a different city at this point in his life and career.

Jalen Hurts’ agent Nicole Lynn reacts to Eagles signing the All-Pro QB to a 5-year, $255M contract extension

If you ask, you shall receive, and Jalen Hurts’ agent Nicole Lynn offered this reaction to the Eagles signing the All-Pro QB to a 5-year, $255M contract extension

Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask, and you shall receive, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened”?

Jalen Hurts sought an opportunity to be an NFL quarterback while his agent, Nicole Lynn, just wanted to know if he’d found any representation.

Almost four years later, Lynn is the Pres. of Football Ops. for Klutch Sports, and Hurts is the richest quarterback per year in NFL history after Philadelphia did back up a Brinks trick for the MVP runner-up.

Hurts and the Eagles agreed to a five-year, $255 million deal on Monday morning.

The contract includes $179 million guaranteed, with an almost $24 million signing bonus.

Hurts is coming off the best season of his career after leading the Eagles to Super Bowl LVII, where the Kansas City Chiefs defeated them.

Malachi Nelson: 5-star QB, USC commit signs with Klutch Sports

ESPN has Nelson ranked as the top quarterback and recruit in the country.

It’s a brave new world with regards to what amateur athletes can do marketing themselves. The latest example is Los Alamitos (Calif.) quarterback Malachi Nelson, who made news today by becoming the first high school athlete to sign with LeBron James and Rich Paul’s agency Klutch Sports, according to a report by Pete Thamel at ESPN.

Mostly focused on the NBA, Klutch has several Hollywood clients as well as a couple of NFL players.

ESPN has Nelson ranked as the top quarterback and recruit in the country, while others have Isidore Newman (La.) QB Arch Manning in that spot. For what it’s worth, 247Sports has Nelson No. 4 at his position and No. 5 overall.

Either way, Nelson (6-foot-3, 182 pounds) is one of the best young QBs in the nation and this deal should help him capitalize on that status.

As for what comes next, Nelson verbally committed to USC back in November of last year. He did turn some heads by visiting Texas A&M last month, though.

Myles Garrett joins Klutch Sports

After signing his big extension last offseason, Garrett switched to Klutch Sports on Tuesday as his representation:

The Cleveland Browns have high expectations after the acquisitions of Deshaun Watson and Amari Cooper in trades this offseason. The foundation of the team has been built over the last few years with a great offensive line and run game on the offensive side while Myles Garrett and Denzel Ward have been the keys on defense.

The team’s two defenders signed contract extensions the last two offseasons, locking them in for the long-term with the Browns.

Garrett signed his deal while represented by veteran agent Bus Cook.

Tuesday, news came that Garrett was changing his agent and joining Klutch Sports:

Known as the agency that LeBron James and Rich Paul founded, Klutch represents Cleveland’s last two first-round picks: Jedrick Wills and Greg Newsome II. One of the team’s fourth-round picks, Perrion Winfrey, is also represented by Klutch.

Nicole Lynn will represent Garrett moving forward. The former #1 overall pick is under contract until after the 2026 season when he will be 31 years old.

Klutch Sports’ Rich Paul denies report of wanting Lakers to trade Russell Westbrook for John Wall

Rich Paul told Stephen A. Smith his side of the report about Klutch Sports wanting the Lakers to trade Russell Westbrook for John Wall.

Bleacher Report Sunday published a report about Klutch Sports apparently being unhappy with Los Angeles Lakers VP of basketball operations Rob Pelinka for not trading Russell Westbrook to the Houston Rockets for John Wall, a fellow Klutch client.

But according to Stephen A. Smith on ESPN’s “First Take” Monday, Paul had called Smith to tell Smith his side of the story. Paul denied the report and called it an “absolute lie”:

“Rich Paul called me yesterday and asked me to quote him on this story about him and Klutch Sports and essentially them wanting the Lakers to trade Russell Westbrook and a first-round pick to Houston for John Wall.

“He wanted me to state emphatically that there was absolutely, positively no truth to that whatsoever. He never did that. He did not do that. The people who wrote the story never contacted him to get any kind of perspective from him on that.

“It is an absolute lie, and he said ‘Could you please do me a favor and quote me and tell the world that I specifically said that’s a damn lie. There is no truth. It never happened.’ Just for what it’s worth, that’s what Rich Paul says about these stories that have been put out there. Fair enough, so I quoted him.”

This is definitely notable since it came directly from the horse’s mouth. The public feud between LeBron James, Paul and Klutch Sports and the Lakers’ front office continues to escalate.

Report: Klutch Sports is not happy with Lakers’ Rob Pelinka

The relationship between Lakers VP of basketball operations Rob Pelinka and Klutch Sports reportedly is in a sour state.

The drama continues to amplify for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2022 All-Star break.

It started Saturday when LeBron James opened the door by saying the door to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers is not closed, making his current situation with the Lakers murky. James also confirmed his final season will be spent with his son Bronny James, so that will likely end his tenure in L.A. too if another team secures Bronny.

This comes after the Lakers did not make any trades before the deadline on Feb. 10. James and the players knew trades needed to happen to improve the roster and make a title run, but Lakers VP of basketball operations Rob Pelinka stood firm.

There was a deal that would’ve sent Russell Westbrook to the Houston Rockets for John Wall, but Pelinka did not want to send L.A.’s coveted 2027 first-round pick to end the Westbrook experiment.

Not pulling the trigger for that move has made Klutch Sports, James’ agency, not happy with Pelinka, according to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report:

According to multiple NBA sources, Klutch is not happy with Pelinka. The sentiment has long percolated, but it reached a boil when Pelinka refused to trade Westbrook and a future first-round pick (likely 2027) for Houston Rockets guard and Klutch client John Wall.

The move didn’t make sense for the Lakers from a basketball standpoint as a significant upgrade over Westbrook, even though Wall averaged 20.6 points and 6.9 assists per game last year. Wall hasn’t played this season, with the Rockets focusing on developing younger players. From the Klutch point of view, the Lakers would get their client out of a bad situation in Houston and undo the Westbrook mistake.

The Lakers have had multiple players represented by Klutch on the roster since LeBron joined in 2018: Anthony Davis, Talen Horton-Tucker, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Ben McLemore, Markieff Morris, Montrezl Harrell, Dion Waiters, J.R. Smith.

Tristan Thompson was named a buyout candidate this season for the Lakers because of the Klutch connection, so it’s not surprising that not trading for Wall has Klutch feeling this way.

Let’s see if Pelinka and Klutch can mend the situation.

Report: Klutch Sports upset that Lakers didn’t trade for John Wall

Though this season’s trade deadline has now passed, the Russell Westbrook-John Wall talks could potentially be revisited over the offseason, since both players will still be under contract.

Though rumors had swirled before the 2022 trade deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers ultimately decided not to trade Russell Westbrook and a future first-round draft asset to the Houston Rockets for John Wall. That does not mean, however, that the talks can’t be revisited at a later date.

Per Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, powerful sports agency Klutch Sports — run by Rich Paul, who represents Wall, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis — was not pleased by the Lakers’ choice not to do the deal.

In his column, Pincus writes:

According to multiple NBA sources, Klutch is not happy with (Rob) Pelinka.

Both Westbrook and Wall will be on large, expiring contracts in the 2022-23 season, so the talks could certainly be revisited in the 2022 offseason, since each player will still be trade eligible by his current team.

Should the Lakers miss the 2022 Western Conference playoffs, or perhaps even if they make it but have an ugly exit in the first round, that could prompt James and Davis to put even more pressure on the Los Angeles front office to make significant changes to the roster. Time will tell.

EXCLUSIVE: Klutch signs Sierra Canyon star Juju Watkins as first female athlete client

Sierra Canyon star Juju Watkins will be announced as Klutch Sports Group’s first high school girls basketball client on Friday.

Klutch Sports Group is venturing further in its clientele representation. Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) star Juju Watkins has signed as the agency’s first female athlete client, a partnership that will be announced Friday.

Klutch Sports Group CEO and Founder Rich Paul said the agency now has the foundation to broaden its client base and provide the support needed for female athletes.

“We’ve never been someone who’s just wanted to jump in something from a perspective of monetarily, but it’s important as you’re representing each individual and athletes as a whole, that you have the proper infrastructure to represent them at a level in which there’s not a dip,” Paul said. “If we’re going to represent the men a certain way, the women have to be represented the exact same way.”

The agency is aligning itself with a young, high-profile client who can be a face of women’s basketball. Watkins, currently in her junior season, is a FIBA U16 Gold Medalist and MVP with Team USA, Los Angeles Times Girls Basketball Player of the Year and 2020 Sports Illustrated Sports Kid of the Year.

It is also a partnership between a pair of like-minded parties looking to maximize not only the on-court talents of the star guard but also achieve her off-court goals of community building.

“Community was kind of our first conversation,” Watkins said. “That’s what we shared in common, just pushing my narrative and how I want to impact not only the basketball side but my community and things outside of basketball.”

For as lofty as Watkins’ ambitions are, for as many medals as she has on the mantle, the junior’s basketball story revolves around the community of Watts. The 2.5-square-mile, predominately minority Los Angeles neighborhood consists of a population with more than a quarter below the poverty line and only slightly more than half holding a high school diploma. Generations of her family have been dedicated to the advancement of the community, from her great-grandfather Ted Watkins establishing the Watts Labor Community Action Committee to her own parents instilling supportive and cooperative values in Watkins from a young age.

Watkins wants to help the community gain financial literacy and education opportunities. She wants to inspire other young girls to persevere through diversity. She wants to bring Fortune 500 companies into the area. Watkins isn’t waiting until she graduates to get to work, slyly saying to “stay tuned” for what’s next.

“My angle is to inspire my community and become a frontier for women’s basketball,” she said. “We don’t have as many resources as others, so just speaking up and being a part of that story of women’s basketball.”

Her voice shined with excitement when talking about working with youth basketball camps each summer.

“It’s so dope to just be around younger players and see how much passion they already have. It’s amazing,” she said. “It inspires me to become greater.”

Her tone lit up more when thinking about those moments than when speaking on her own accomplishments. More so than her goals of winning high school championships and awards such as the Gatorade and MaxPreps players of the year. She rattled off her long-term ambitions in the opposite of chronological order — Hall of Fame, WNBA player, College Player of the Year, All-American, championships. She hasn’t started narrowing down colleges yet, and her long list of college offers is essentially a who’s-who of top programs. Name a team, and it probably has an interest in the five-star athlete.

“To summarize that, just being the best version of me I can be on and off the court,” she said. Watkins paused, gave a small laugh, took another beat to try to find the right words so as to not sound immodest, and then added, “Becoming an icon, I guess.”

“Her ability to be someone that young women and young men look up to as a player … She just has that it,” Paul said. “She approaches things the right way, she’s very astute and very understanding of her surroundings at a very young age. I’ve been around that before, so I know what that looks like. I’m excited for what’s up ahead.”

Watkins joins Klutch at a pivotal time for collegiate sports and women’s basketball. The WNBA has started to blossom, the most recent evidence being a $75 million capital raise. College athletes are beginning to cash in on NIL offers, and Watkins is in a position to become the icon she aspires to be as she drives the sport forward.

“She’s always working on enhancing her basketball IQ and skills, so she’s always evolving in that space. She’s always working on being a good person and understanding what it is to have morals and values and purpose in life, so she’s going to evolve in that space as well,” said her mother, Sari Watkins. “She knows how to put her goals in perspective and go after them. I think that it’s kind of already been written by God, to be honest, and all she has to do is continue to stay the course and work her tail off and everything that she works so hard for, she’s gonna get.”

“Juju is always thinking out the box, so she’s never trying to do something that’s within norm. She’s always gonna take a different approach,” said her father, Robert Watkins. “She’s always going to be thinking, how can I do this to change the game on a different level? I think that’s what it’s gong to take to evolve the women’s game and I think that’s why she’s impacting and she gets so much love on the NBA and the WNBA.”

Zach LaVine opts to join Klutch Sports Group

LaVine, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2022, joined the agency founded by Rich Paul and LeBron James, who welcomed LaVine to to Klutch via Twitter.

The UCLA product is coming off a Gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics and a career-season in 2020-21, which he averaged a career-high 27.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, and a career-high 4.8 assists while shooting 50.7% from the field and 41.9% from 3-point range, both career-highs.

Watch: Eagles’ Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith work on deep passing connection

Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts and wide receiver DeVonta Smith working on deep passing connection

The Eagles are about a month away from the start of the 2021 training camp, but that hasn’t stopped two of their biggest stars from continuing to pay the rent.

In a video from Nicole Lynn, the Pres. of Football Ops. for Klutch Sports, Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith can be seen working on their deep passing connection on a random Saturday in June.

Lynn helps run the Klutch Sports football division and is the agent for both Hurts and Smith.

Both players are above average when it comes to putting in the work and the chemistry built during these sessions should carry over into the regular season.
