Tampa Bay Lightning at Montreal Canadiens odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Tampa Bay Lightning at Montreal Canadiens odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Tampa Bay Lightning (30-20-4) visit the Montreal Canadiens (25-25-5) Sunday with puck drop from Bell Centre set for 1 p.m. ET (NHL Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Lightning vs. Canadiens odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Canadiens lead 2-0 with a 5-2 road win Dec. 29 and 3-2 home win on Jan. 21

The Lightning won third straight game Saturday, beating the Detroit Red Wings 6-3 as -157 road favorites as the Over (6) cashed with ease. LW Brandon Hagel scored 2 goals and added 2 assists. G Andrei Vasilevskiy was sharp, stopping 34 of 37 shots faced.

Montreal’s struggles continued Saturday, dropping their seventh game in the last 8 with a 4-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils as +138 home underdogs. The Under (6) hit as the Canadiens were shut down by G Jake Allen, who stopped all 34 shots. They’ve scored just 10 goals in their last 6 games.

  • Moneyline (ML): Lightning -145 (bet $145 to win $100) | Canadiens +120 (bet $100 to win $120)
  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Lightning -1.5 (+165) | Canadiens +1.5 (-200)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Lightning at Canadiens projected goalies

Andrei Vasilevskiy (23-15-3, 2.28 GAA, .919 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Jakob Dobes (5-2-1, 2.45 GAA, .917 SV%, 1 SO)

Vasilevskiy has been stellar in February, posting a 3-0-1 record with a 2.52 GAA and .919 SV%. However, his last outing against the Canadiens on Jan. 21 didn’t go as smoothly, as he took the loss after allowing 3 goals on 21 shots faced.

Dobes took the loss in his last start on Wednesday against the LA Kings, allowing 5 goals on 36 shots faced. The rookie Czech goaltender has yet to face Montreal in his career.

Lightning at Canadiens picks and predictions

Prediction

Lightning 3, Canadiens 2

Moneyline

BET LIGHTNING (-145).

Montreal’s rookie goalie has impressed this season, but he has struggled over his last 3 starts. As a team, the Canadiens are allowing 3.39 goals per game (GPG), ranking 29th in the league. Tampa Bay has won 4 of its last 5 games, scoring at least 4 goals in the last 3 games. With a potent offense, ranking third in the league with 3.49 GPG, it’s hard not to favor Tampa Bay.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

I was originally leaning toward the Lightning on the puck line, but with uncertainty over what to expect from a rookie in net for the Canadiens, I decided to stick with the moneyline.

Over/Under

PASS.

I’m staying away from this bet due to inconsistent trends. The Over/Under is  5-5 over the Lightning’s last 10 games and 4-5-1 for Montreal’s kast 10. Despite Montreal’s young goalie showing promise, he allowed 5 goals in his last outing. With too much uncertainty on both sides, it’s best to pass here.

Winnipeg Jets at Montreal Canadiens odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Winnipeg Jets at Montreal Canadiens odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Winnipeg Jets (34-14-3) take on the Montreal Canadiens (24-20-5) Tuesday. Puck drop from Bell Centre is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Jets vs. Canadiens odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Jets lead 1-0

Winnipeg beat Montreal 4-2 as a big -246 home favorite Dec. 14. LW Kyle Connor had a goal and an assist, while C’s Adam Lowry, Vladislav Namestnikov and Gabriel Vilardi each had a goal.

The Jets are soaring, winners of 3 straight, after a 5-2 W over the Calgary Flames Sunday. Connor scored his 27th goal, and C Mark Scheifele nailed his 28th as Winnipeg prevailed as a -203 favorite with the Over (6) cashing. The Jets are 7-2-1 over the last 10 games and show no signs of slowing down.

The Habs have lost 2 straight after a 4-3 OT home loss to the New Jersey Devils Saturday. RW Cole Caufield scored his 25th of the season for Montreal, which came up short as +148 underdogs with the Over (6) hitting. The goal ended a 5-game goalless drought for the Stevens Point, Wisconsin native. The Habs are in the muddy middle. After a couple impressive wins over the New York Rangers (Jan. 19) and Tampa Bay Lightning (Jan. 21), they followed up with losses to the Detroit Red Wings (Thursday) and Devils.

  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Jets -1.5 (+145) | Canadiens +1.5 (-175)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6 (O: +100 | U: -120)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Jets at Canadiens projected goalies

Connor Hellebuyck (30-7-2, 2.02 GAA, .926 SV%, 6 SO) vs. Sam Montembeault (17-17-3, 2.99 GAA, .899 SV%, 3 SO)

Hellebuyck has won 2 straight, against Colorado and Utah no less, and allowed 2 goals in each of them. The latest was a 5-2 win over Utah Friday when he stopped 17 of 19 shots. He would have to fall flat on his face not to take home the Vezina. He was between the pipes in the Dec. 14 win vs. the Habs, saving 26 of 28 shots.

Montembeault has had an up-and-down month, allowing 10 combined goals Thursday and Saturday, Jan. 18, but yielded just 2 goals in between in a 3-2 win vs. Tampa Bay, Tuesday, Jan. 21. He’s 3-3-1 with a 3.46 GAA and .891 SV% this month. He was in goal in the 4-2 loss to the Jets Dec. 14, finishing with 23 saves on 26 shots.

Jets at Canadiens picks and predictions

Prediction

Jets 4, Canadiens 2

Moneyline

The Jets are the choice here, but I’d rather go at the puck line instead of paying -175.

PASS.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Jets have won 7 of 10, and of those, 5 have been by 2+ goals. With Hellebuyck in net for Winnipeg and Montreal’s recent struggles, I’ll take the plus-money with the JETS -1.5 (+145).

Over/Under

The Jets are 5-5 O/U in their last 10, and the Habs are 5-4-1. This is a tough one at an even 6. I would love to get an Over 5.5 here. The Jets have scored 5 goals in 2 straight against comparable, maybe better teams in Utah and Calgary. Montreal has scored 2+ goals in 7 straight. I don’t see the Habs scoring 3 on the Jets, which gives me the feel for a 4-2 finish.

Take the ALTERNATE TOTAL OVER 5.5 (-130) because I feel we’d be playing for a push otherwise.

New Jersey Devils at Montreal Canadiens odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s New Jersey Devils at Montreal Canadiens odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The New Jersey Devils (27-17-6) take on the Montreal Canadiens (24-20-4) Saturday. Puck drop from Bell Centre is set for 9 p.m. ET (NHL Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Devils vs. Canadiens odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Devils lead 1-0; Jersey won 5-3 at home Nov. 7

The Devils snapped a 4-game losing streak with a 5-1 win over the Boston Bruins Wednesday. However, they received a kick below the belt when G Jacob Markstrom (knee) left the game with a sprained MCL. He’ll miss 4 to 6 weeks. C Dawson Mercer had 2 goals in that one to give him 12 on the year.

The Canadiens fell 4-2 at the Detroit Red Wings Thursday. The setback snapped a modest 2-game winning streak, and they are 7-2-1 over the last 10. C Kirby Dach netted his 10th goal of the season and added an assist in that one.

  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Devils -1.5 (+145) | Canadiens +1.5 (-175)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6 (O: -120 | U: +100)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Devils at Canadiens projected goalies

Jake Allen (6-8-1, 2.66 GAA, .901 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Jakub Dobes (5-0-0, 1.55 GAA, .941 SV%, 1 SO)

Allen came on in relief of Markstrom in the last game and stopped all 16 shots fired his way. The 34-year-old has made 3 appearances this month and has allowed just 4 goals on 56 shots for a .929 SV%. He spent the first half of last season with Montreal and hasn’t faced it in a few years.

The 23-year-old Czech rookie was great in his first 4 starts but allowed 4 goals on 28 shots in a 5-4 OT winner against the New York Rangers last time out. He has given his team a spark as they have scored 17 goals in his 5 starts.

Devils at Canadiens picks and predictions

Prediction

Canadiens 4, Devils 3

Moneyline

I like the Habs here. If they can get out to an early lead, the Devs, who just lost their franchise goalie, will start to press and chase the game. Montreal is an up-and-coming bunch with a lot of speed and skill.

Take the CANADIENS +140.

Puck line/Against the spread

There’s no value on either side of the moneyline here. Stick with the value on the Habs ML.

PASS.

Over/Under

The Devils are 2-8 O/U in their last 10, and the Canadiens are 4-5-1. The difference for me is that we essentially have 2 backup goalies here. The last 2 meetings saw 8 and 7 goals, and I think we’re going OVER 6 (-120).

Montreal Canadiens at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Montreal Canadiens at Detroit Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Montreal Canadiens (24-19-4) and Detroit Red Wings (21-21-5) will tussle in a Thursday contest. The opening puck drop at Little Caesars Arena will be at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Canadiens vs. Red Wings odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Canadiens lead 2-0

Montreal, which defeated the Red Wings on back-to-back days in December (4-3 at Detroit Dec. 20, 5-1 at home Dec. 21) last played Tuesday, topping the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2. The Canadiens are 4-1-0 across their last 5 games. Since Dec. 17, the Habs have averaged 3.71 goals per game in going 13-3-1.

Detroit was on a roll earlier this month, but on Tuesday it lost to the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in overtime, and it totes a 3-game losing streak (0-2-1) into this Atlantic Division tussle on home ice. The Red Wings have been outscored 11-3 during the skid.

  • Moneyline: Canadiens +105 (bet $100 to win $105) | Red Wings -125 (bet $125 to win $100)
  • Puck line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Canadiens +1.5 (-235) | Red Wings -1.5 (+195)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Canadiens at Red Wings projected goalies

Sam Montembeault (17-16-3, 2.95 GAA, .899 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Cam Talbot (11-10-2, 3.07 GAA, .901 SV%, 1 SO)

Montembeault made 33 saves in the Tuesday win over the Bolts. That start marked a bounceback after yielding 6 goals to the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday.  The 28-year-old owns an .886 SV% over his last 6 games.

Talbot last started on Saturday when he was pulled 40 minutes and 5 goals into an eventual 5-1 loss to Tampa Bay. The veteran got off to a good start this season, but he has floundered to the tune of an .873 SV% since Nov. 29.

Canadiens at Red Wings picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Wings 4, Canadiens 3

Moneyline

Prior to the December back-to-back, Detroit had beaten Montreal in 3 straight.

The Red Wings, who are 5-1-0 over their last 6 games at home, have been outshooting foes of late, and their power play had been on a roll until coming up empty — 0-for-3 — over the last 2 games. From Dec. 27-Jan. 18, the Wings cranked out a 45% figure on the man advantage.

If Talbot gets the nod in goal, he has a career .941 SV% against the Habs. And Montreal counters with some recent-game defensive analytics that do not support the club’s winning ways since mid-December.

BACK THE RED WINGS (-125).

Puck line/Against the spread

These two division foes have played a lot of 1-goal games in their recent history. No interest in trying to leverage Detroit into a big payoff. PASS.

Over/Under

The Over is 4-0-1 across the last 5 Montreal-Detroit contests.

Both clubs have been yielding more high-danger scoring chances of late in 5-on-5 play. The Red Wings own a dangerous power play and a shaky penalty kill. The Canadiens’ defensive analytics of late have not been at all impressive, and this goaltending matchup doesn’t push back against an Over lean.

TAKE THE OVER 6 (-105).

New York Rangers at Montreal Canadiens odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s New York Rangers at Montreal Canadiens odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The New York Rangers (22-20-3) visit the Montreal Canadiens (22-19-4) Sunday with puck drop from Bell Centre set for 7 p.m. ET (NHL Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Rangers vs. Canadiens odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Rangers lead 2-0

The Rangers grabbed their fourth win in 5 games Saturday, beating the Columbus Blue Jackets 1-0 in a shootout as -202 home favorites with the Under (6.5) hitting. G Igor Shesterkin picked up his second shutout of the season, stopping all 27 shots. C Vincent Trocheck scored the lone goal of the shootout.

The Canadiens fell 7-3 as +128 home underdogs vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday night as the Over (6) cashed. LW Patrik Laine scored a goal and added an assist, but G Sam Montembeault had a rough night, giving up 6 goals on 33 shots.

Rangers at Canadiens projected goalies

Jonathan Quick (6-5-1, 2.98 GAA, .900 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Jakub Dobes (4-0-0, 0.98 GAA, .963 SV%, 1 SO)

Quick’s last start was a 5-4 OT loss in New York against the Dallas Stars Jan. 7, saving 34 of 39 shots. Quick has just 1 win since Nov. 30, which coincidentally was his last outing against the Canadiens, stopping 25 of 28 shots in a 4-3 home victory.

Dobes remains undefeated in his young NHL career. In his latest outing Thursday — a 3-1 victory at the Stars — he saved 32 of 33 shots. Over his 4 career starts, the 23-year-old netminder has surrendered only 4 total goals. Saturday marks his first career matchup against the Rangers.

Rangers at Canadiens picks and predictions

Prediction

Canadiens 2, Rangers 1

Moneyline

BET CANADIENS (-105).

Dobes has been nothing short of incredible. He kicked off his career with a 4-0 shutout win at the defending champion Florida Panthers Dec. 28 and followed it up with wins over big-time teams like the Colorado Avalanche, Stars and Washington Capitals — all on the road.

Both squads are playing solid hockey right now. The Rangers have won 4 of their last 5 games, while the Canadiens have taken 5 of their last 7. But it looks like New York is giving its top goalie a breather Sunday, which could swing things Montreal’s way.

This will be Dobes’ first home start, and you know the Montreal crowd will have his back. With the Canadiens as underdogs, I’ll take a shot on them pulling off the upset at home.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

I’m not playing around with the puck line against Dobes. It’ll be a tight affair with Montreal sneaking by in the end.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6.5 (-120).

If the Canadiens are going to win, it’ll have to be in a low-scoring game, leaning on their young, talented goalie. Think along the lines of a 2-1 or 1-0 matchup Sunday.

The Under has hit in 4 of the Rangers’ last 5 games, and none of Dobes’ 4 starts this season have even hit 6 total goals. All signs point to another Under here.

Montreal Canadiens at Boston Bruins odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Montreal Canadiens at Boston Bruins odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Montreal Canadiens (8-12-3) meet the Boston Bruins (11-11-3) Sunday at TD Garden. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Canadiens vs. Bruins odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Bruins lead 1-0 after 6-4 victory in Boston Oct. 10 as the B’s cashed as heavy -292 favorites while the Over (6) came through.

The Canadiens suffered a 4-3 loss to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden Saturday as the Over (6.5) cashed. Montreal is 2-1-0 this season when playing on no rest, while going Over in all 3 of those outings. Last season, Montreal was 1-11-1 with a minus-30 goal differential in the second end of a back-to-back.

The Bruins were on the short end of a 2-1 home loss Friday against the Pittsburgh Penguins, while the Under (5.5) cashed.

The Under is 5-1-1 in Boston’s past 7 games, while it is 10-3-1 in the past 14 games for Montreal.

Canadiens at Bruins projected goalies

Cayden Primeau (2-2-1, 4.37 GAA, .846 SV%) vs. Jeremy Swayman (6-9-2, 3.09 GAA, .892 SV, 1 SO)

Primeau allowed 3 goals on 24 shots in a 4-3 OT win at Columbus Wednesday, his first victory since Oct. 27 in Philadelphia. He faced the Bruins back on Oct. 10, allowing 6 goals on 29 shots in a 6-4 road loss.

Swayman has dropped the past 2 games, although he allowed just 3 goals on 50 shots. The offense has provided him with a total of just 6 goals of support in the past 5 starts. He has a solid 2.69 GAA and .900 SV% mark in 9 starts in November despite a subpar 3-5-1 record.

Canadiens at Bruins picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 3, Canadiens 1

Moneyline

The Bruins (-225) will cost more than 2 times the potential return. That’s too much risk for not enough reward.

Boston has had trouble lighting the lamp lately, but it is a strong play against the Canadiens (+180) and their backup goaltender while the team plays on no rest.

PASS and focus on the spread and total.

Puck line/Against the spread

The BRUINS -1.5 (+110) are worth playing lightly laying the goal and a half at home.

Boston has had trouble scoring, but it should find the back of the net frequently against Primeau, who struggled in the first meeting.

Over/Under

The UNDER 5.5 (+100) is worth a look at even-money.

Again, Boston’s offense has been struggling, and it is nothing new. It’s what cost Jim Montgomery his coaching job. The B’s are last in the NHL with just 3.2 goals per game, while the power play is at just a 12.0% clip, second to last in the league.

The Under has a slight 7-5 edge for the Habs in the past 12 games.

Utah Hockey Club at Montreal Canadiens odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Utah Hockey Club at Montreal Canadiens odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Utah Hockey Club (8-10-3) and Montreal Canadiens (7-11-2) tangle  Tuesday at the Bell Center. The opening faceoff will be at 7 p.m. (ESPN2). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Utah Hockey Club vs. Canadiens odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; teams split 1-1 last season when Utah was the Arizona Coyotes

Utah is closing out a 4-game road swing. The club is 1-2-0 on the trip and 1-4-0 since Nov. 15. Utah’s last game was a 3-2 loss Sunday at the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Canadiens have had 2 off days since losing 6-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights Saturday. The 6 goals allowed were more than Montreal had yielded in going 2-1-0 over its previous 3 games.

Utah Hockey Club at Canadiens projected goalies

Connor Ingram (6-4-3, 3.61 GAA, .871 SV%) vs. Sam Montembeault (6-9-1, 3.08 GAA, .899 SV%)

Its been more than a week since Ingram was last between the pipes. His last game was Nov. 18 vs. the Washington Capitals when the 27-year-old was pulled 26 minutes and 4 goals into that one. Ingram owns a lackluster .864 SV% over his last 8 games.

Montembeault started the Saturday game against Vegas and was lifted for a replacement after yielding 5 goals in 2 periods. He had allowed just 3 goals over his previous 194 minutes. The 28-year-old owns a mere .888 SV% on the road, but he’s clocked a .903 figure at home.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Utah Hockey Club at Canadiens picks and predictions

Prediction

Canadiens 3, Utah Hockey Club 2

Moneyline

If Ingram gets the goaltending nod for Utah, that’s a green check mark in the Montreal column. Expected-goal analytics are not as bearish on the Canadiens’ defensive numbers (3.80 goals allowed per game, 31st NHL). Per NaturalStatTrick, the Habs have yielded a woeful 3.56 5-on-5 goals per 60 minutes, but expected-goal numbers peg that as a more reasonable 3.01.

Recent games have seen Montreal being stingier in allowing high-danger looks, and a shaky penalty kill may be getting right (9-for-9 in last 3 games).

Mix in better-at-home Montembeault as the probable netminder, and MONTREAL (+118) is the value side here.

Puck line/Against the spread

Montreal plus the cushion is a would-be likable play, but any value is muddied by some extra hold for the sportsbook. PASS.

Over/Under

Utah has scored 2 goals or less in 4 of its last 5 games. The Under is 3-1 across Montreal’s 4 contests.

Since Oct. 26, Utah has played 8 road games, and it has scored 3 goals or less in 6 of those games. Recent trends for both sides show defenses allowing fewer looks from the slot.

BACK THE UNDER 6.5 (-138).

The Edmonton Oilers (9-7-2) and Montreal Canadiens (6-10-2) meet Monday night. Puck drop from Bell Centre is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Oilers vs. Canadiens odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Edmonton swept 2-0 last season

Edmonton is playing the middle contest of a 3-game road swing through Ontario and Quebec. That trip opened with a Saturday 4-3 OT loss at the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Oilers, who outshot the Leafs 30-22, coughed up a 2-1 lead through 2 periods. The overtime game marked Edmonton’s third in a row.

The Canadiens also last played Saturday, when they bludgeoned the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-1. Montreal is just 2-6-1 over its last 9 games.

Both Montreal losses to Edmonton last season were in overtime.

Oilers at Canadiens picks and predictions

Prediction

Oilers 4, Canadiens 2

Moneyline

Lots of juice playing havoc with these prices. AVOID.

Puck line/Against the spread

Edmonton is 6-2 over its last 8 meetings with the Canadiens. The Oilers are 4-1 in their last 5 games at Montreal. The Canadiens are 2-5 in their last 7 games on home ice.

The Oilers were a 104-point club a year ago. Things have been shaky so far this season, especially in special teams (17.4% power play, 66% penalty kill), and Edmonton has had a tough time gaining traction.

But over its last 4 games, Edmonton has gone 3-of-11 on the PP and 9-of-10 on the PK. TopDownHockey tracks all-situations goals vs. expected, and the Oilers have thus far filed the league’s unluckiest differential, a massive -20.4. Edmonton excels in cranking out big advantages in puck-possession and shot-quality analytics.

The Oilers are likely a value in the near term and in this one are squaring off against a Montreal club which is 3-6 ATS over its last 9. The Canadiens’ 2-6-1 mark over those 9 games includes a PK listing a bit (71.9%).

Montreal is 3-6-1 and allowing 4.20 goals per game when playing on 1 day of rest.

BACK THE OILERS -1.5 (-110).

Over/Under

Totals betting has yielded a 2-2 split over the last 4 series meetings, and there is almost no lean in this one. Expected-goal analytics project better days ahead for the Edmonton offense but also for a Montreal defense allowing 3.89 GPG.

With Montembeault looking sharp of late, peg just a sliver of a lean on the UNDER 6.5 (-110).

Montreal Canadiens at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Montreal Canadiens at Philadelphia Flyers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Montreal Canadiens (3-4-1) travel to meet the Philadelphia Flyers (2-5-1) at Wells Fargo Center on Sunday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Canadiens vs. Flyers odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Canadiens won 2-1 in 2023-24

The Canadiens picked up a 5-2 victory against the St. Louis Blues at home as short ‘dogs (-105) on Saturday night as the Over (6) cashed. Montreal has played on no rest once this season, losing 6-4 at Boston on Oct. 10 as the Over (6) easily connected.

Last season, Montreal was just 1-11-1 when working on no rest, while posting a dismal minus-30 goal differential, which was worst in the NHL.

The Flyers surprised the Minnesota Wild 7-5 in matinee action Saturday as a slight home underdog (+113) as the Over (6) cashed for the second straight outing. That victory halted an 0-5-1 skid dating back to a 3-2 SOW on opening night in Vancouver on Oct. 11.

The Fly Guys are 0-2-0 this season in the second end of a back-to-back, posting a minus-6 goal differential.

Montreal has won 6 of the past 9 in the series since Dec. 16, 2021, although 6 of the past 10 meetings have been decided by a single goal. The Under is 3-1 in the past 4 in the series.

Canadiens at Flyers projected goalies

Cayden Primeau (0-1-1, 4.21 GAA, .880 SV%) vs. Ivan Fedotov (0-3-0, 5.35 GAA, .821 SV%)

Primeau is confirmed for the start in Philly. He has allowed 3 or more goals in each of his 3 outings, which include 2 starts and 1 relief appearance. In his last start on the road against the New York Islanders Oct. 19, he made 33 saves in a 4-3 shootout loss.

Primeau went 1-0-1 with a 1.44 GAA and .957 SV% in 2 starts against the Flyers last season.

Fedotov has dropped all 3 of his starts, allowing 4 or more goals in each of the outings. He has made exactly 19 saves in each of his past 2 starts, and he was pulled early in a 6-4 loss on Oct. 17 in Seattle.

Fedotov appeared against the Habs in relief last season for the first time in his career, allowing 4 goals on 13 shots in a relief appearance April 9 in Montreal.

Canadiens at Flyers picks and predictions

Prediction

Canadiens 4, Flyers 3

Moneyline

The CANADIENS (+125) is a solid play as slight underdog on the road against the Flyers (-150).

Montreal has picked up 6 wins in the past 9 outings in this series, including a pair of victories in Philadelphia. The Habs also steam in with a 5-2 victory against the Blues at home on Saturday.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Canadiens +1.5 (-200) will cost you 2 times your potential return, and that’s way too expensive for a little bit of insurance.

If you like the Habs, just play them straight up in this battle of teams both desperate for a win.

PASS.

Over/Under

OVER 6 (-120) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at most.

The Over has hit in the past 2 games, while going 5-2 across the past 7 outings for the Flyers, too. And, the total cashed high Oct. 12 in Calgary in Philly’s only previous game when playing on no rest.

The Over has cashed in 3 consecutive outings for the Habs, while hitting in their only previous game on no rest this season, too.

Canadiens at Bruins projected goalies

Sam Montembeault (1-0, 0 GAA, 1.000 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Joonas Korpisalo (0-1, 6.19 GAA, .829 SV%)

Montembeault was spectacular in his season debut allowing no goals while facing 48 shots. The 6ht-year NHL veteran was 16-15 last season with a 3.14 GAA and .903 SV%. He has already surpassed his season total in shutouts from last year.

Canadiens at Bruins picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 5, Canadiens 2

Moneyline

PASS.

There is no value on Boston (-275) to pick up its 1st win of the season on Thursday.

Puck line/Against the spread

BET BRUINS -1.5 (-105).

Boston displayed a strong attack in its season opener, scoring 4 goals. Its defense struggled to stop the Panthers, who have one of the top offenses in the NHL, but against a Montreal team that found the back of the net just once in its opener, expect it to have more success on Thursday. The Bruins’ 1st home game will provide them with the extra energy necessary to not just win, but to pile it on.

Over/Under

BET OVER 6 (-105).

Boston easily topped the Over in its 1st game, totaling 10 goals. Dating back to last season, the Bruins have hit the Over in 4 of their last 7 games. While Montreal struggled to attack in its 1st game, expect them to add the necessary goals to hit the Over. The Canadiens have scored 4 or more goals in 4 of their last 6 games dating back to last season.
