The Wolverines are certainly after their fair share of top flight tight ends in 2021.

There are players such as almost-five-star Thomas Fidone out of Iowa, Massachusetts’ Louis Hansen and recent offer Jack Pugh out of Ohio, who has visited Ann Arbor multiple times now. But one prominent tight end that shouldn’t be forgotten in the mix is Henderson (NV) Liberty four-star Moliki Matavao, who’s long been a target of tight ends coach Sherrone Moore.

Matavao has held his Michigan offer for more than a year now, having received it last year in March. The maize and blue have been a constant for the 6-foot-6, 240-pound prospect, so much so that when he dropped his top ten on Saturday, the Wolverines made the cut.

The Wolverines are, however, in a battle with Ohio State, LSU, Tennessee, Penn State, Washington, Oregon, UCLA, Georgia and Miami (FL).

Matavao is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the 145th-best prospect in 2021, regardless of position. The 247Sports Crystal Ball indicates that he’s currently a Washington lean, with one prediction for him to end up in Seattle.

The Georgia Bulldogs landed a huge tight end from Nevada in the class of 2020 in five-star recruit Darnell Washington. Kirby Smart and the University of Georgia will look to do that for a second straight time with the class of 2021.

Matavao recently named his top ten schools via his Twitter account:

Matavao will decide between Miami, Georgia, UCLA, Penn State, Tennessee, LSU, Oregon, Ohio State, Michigan, and Washington. He’ll have to pick between east coast and west coast.

Matavao has lots of directions he could go. We’ll keep you updated on his recruiting process and on the rest of the class of 2021.

Georgia recently secured another commitment in the class of 2021. It’ll be fun to watch Darnell Washington this upcoming season.
