Woods was a graduate assistant at Tennessee in 2008 and played for the Vols from 2003-07 as a wide receiver and holder.

The former Vol served as an offensive quality control assistant at Auburn from 2009-11 and over wide receivers and a recruiting coordinator for Arkansas State in 2012.

KNOXVILLE — South-Doyle High School senior football player Elijah Young has decommitted from Missouri.

The four-year starter for the Cherokees at running back, wide receiver and defensive back, announced his decision on Twitter.

He was recently named 2019 Class 5A Tennessee Titans Mr. Football, receiving the honor Monday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

Young re-opened his recruitment after Tigers’ coach Barry Odom was fired following a 6-6 season that saw Missouri break a five-game losing streak with a 24-14 victory over Arkansas on Friday, Nov. 30.

Missouri lost consecutive Southeastern Conference games to Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee.

The Tigers also lost to Wyoming to open the 2019 campaign.

Young also has offers from several schools including Kentucky, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Arkansas.

3 takeaways from Oklahoma’s 77-66 win over Missouri

After a total disaster last night, losing to Stanford (8-0), 73-54, Oklahoma (6-1) came back tonight against Missouri (4-3)…

A tale of two nights.

After a total disaster last night, losing to Stanford (8-0), 73-54, Oklahoma (6-1) came back tonight against Missouri (4-3), dominating for the most part of the night and coming away with a 77-66 win.

Here are three takeaways from tonight’s Sooners performance.

REAVES IS FUN

Transfer junior guard, Austin Reaves is fun to watch but has to be a nightmare to guard. Leading all scorers with 19 points, Reaves torched torched the Tigers with 10 rebounds, three assists and a steal before fouling out late in the game.

Reaves’ production has been a catalyst for Oklahoma so far this season.

THE SOONERS FINALLY STARTED HOT

FINALLY.

Oklahoma had a night and day difference in shooting the ball from last night to tonight. After going scoreless for over six minutes against Stanford on Monday, Kruger’s crew came out shooting lights out.

Brady Manek was four of four from deep before the under 16 media timeout, giving him 12 points before the first commercial. Manek cooled off, finishing with 17 points, one rebound and one assist.

EVERYBODY SCORES

Okay, maybe not everybody but it was close.

Kur Kuath was the only Sooner tonight that saw the floor and did not score. Eight Oklahoma players recorded at least one point and four of those eight recorded 10 or more.

Having multiple guys that can put the ball in the basket will be a huge benefit as the season progresses. Unlike seasons past, if the Sooners have multiple guys that can put up 12 or more, Oklahoma will be in great shape come conference play as teams cannot key in on just one or two guys defensively.

The Sooners next game comes next Thursday, Dec. 5 on the road against North Texas. The broadcast can be found on Facebook via CBS Sports Network. Tip-off is set for 7p.m. CT.

The Volunteers football team emerged victorious Saturday night over the Missouri Tigers, earning a postseason bid for the first time in three seasons. Meanwhile, the swimming and diving team had a record-breaking effort at the Tennessee Invitational while the women’s volleyball team split a pair of matches over the weekend. Additionally, the men’s basketball team looks to extend their perfect start tonight while the Lady Vols get set to face Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday evening.

Men’s basketball takes on Chattanooga

The 20th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers men’s basketball team takes on the Chattanooga Mocs tonight at Thompson-Boling Arena. The 4-0 Vols look to extend their season-opening winning streak to five against their Southern Conference foes.

The Volunteers and the Mocs have tangled 39 times on the hardwood over the years, with the Vols dropping their last match, 82-69. However, the Big Orange leads the all-time series, 33-6, and sports a 94-17 all-time record against teams from the Southern Conference.

A win would extend UT’s Division I-leading home winning streak to 30 games and also give Tennessee a 52-14 record as a ranked team during the Barnes era, per the Associated Press Top 25 Poll. Head coach Rick Barnes lost his only previous match against the Mocs, that same game that the Vols last lost to them opening the season three years ago.

Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET on SEC Network, and can be heard on local Vol Network affiliates.

Jeremy Pruitt discusses Tennessee’s program following Missouri win

FINAL: Tennessee 24 Missouri 20

[jwplayer OSBA6oIu-er0jUifI]

COLUMBIA — Tennessee (6-5, 4-3 SEC) has won four consecutive games and five of its last six contests.

The Vols are now bowl eligible following a 24-20 win at Missouri in Week 13.

Tennessee’s turnaround is remarkable after starting the season 0-2 with losses against Georgia State and BYU.

Jeremy Pruitt credits Tennessee’s seniors that have been a staple for the Vols’ turnaround.

“I can’t say enough about really the leadership on our team,” Pruitt said following the win at Missouri. “The seniors, these guys have been through a lot. This season didn’t start off the way we anticipated, but with their leadership, these coaches, just kind of helping this team grow. This is why you get into coaching, to watch a team become a team.”

The second-year head coach is also looking forward to the future of Tennessee’s program following how his team has responded this season.

“You have 125 guys on the team and a bunch of individuals,” Pruitt said. “Everyone has all these dreams of what’s going to happen as the season starts. It didn’t happen that way for us. A lot of that was self-inflicted on us, falls back on me, but these guys stuck together. Everybody in our organization.

“It’s hard to do in this day and time, with all the noise and the clutter that is out there, but these guys did that. It says a lot about who they are, the character, who raised them, and it says a whole lot about the future of our program.”

COLUMBIA — Tennessee had a night of first on the gridiron Saturday.

For starters, the Volunteers nabbed a 24-20 victory over Missouri and the Big Orange is now bowl eligible for the first time in three seasons. That was the primary reason for celebration.

But the road was paved with several offensive feats for the Vols (6-5 overall, 4-3 in the Southeastern Conference).

Tennessee, which struggled to run the ball as it has many times in 2019, but the passing game was especially potent against the Tigers (5-6, 2-5).

Redshirt junior quarterback Jarrett Guarantano, who has stepped up his game of late after being much maligned during the campaign.

But he had the best game of his career against a Missouri team that has been reeling down the stretch.

Guarantano was 23-for-40 for 415 yards and two touchdowns. It was the first time since 2012 that a UT quarterback threw for at least 400 yards since Tyler Bray did in 2012.

That was also against the Tigers, who won the game in Knoxville 51-48 in four overtimes and then-head coach Derek Dooley (now Missouri’s offensive coordinator) would be fired before the end of the season.

Saturday also represented a big night for the UT receiving corps, as three receivers went over 100 yards for the first time in school history.

Josh Palmer had six receptions for 124 yards. Jauan Jennings had five catches for 115 yards and a touchdown while Marquez Callaway amassed 110 yards and had a score on six catches.

The Vols also overcame some adversity in the form of two blocked field goals and a fourth-quarter fumble and now, the Big Orange is going bowling.
