Timberwolves at Thunder: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Thunder 110, Timberwolves 107

Money line (ML)

The THUNDER (-105) are actually a slight underdog in this game despite a better record. But with both teams likely not being playoff-caliber teams this season, it’s not hard to see why oddsmakers set the line so close. Still, the Thunder are the better team, and there is some value on the moneyline here for OKC.

It is worth noting that despite the Timberwolves’ win on Friday night, they’ve still lost four of their last five games against the Thunder. Expect that to be the case once again Saturday evening.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

THUNDER (+1.5) is the pick in this one as they were able to keep this to a one-possession game Friday night. It came down to the final possession in a tie game, and the Timberwolves ultimately made the game-winning shot. However, the Thunder are still the more talented team and could be getting a few key contributors back on the floor in this rematch. Take the points here, and expect the Thunder to bounce back.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 218.5 feels like the right play once again as both offenses average 106 points per game. Friday night, these two teams combined for 209 points as the game was pretty sloppy on the offensive end. Don’t expect Saturday night to be all that different as the under should be the smart play.

Timberwolves at Thunder: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Thunder 109, Timberwolves 106

Money line (ML)

The THUNDER (-110) are the play on the money line. The Timberwolves have lost 16 of their last 19 games. Minnesota has lost nine straight road games but this game is somehow a pick ’em in OKC.

Oklahoma City will be without a few starters, but so will Minnesota as Towns is out and Russell is questionable. Gobble up the value here on OKC as the Thunder should win at home.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

If you are unsure about the money line, consider taking the THUNDER -1.5 (+100) to win by at least 2 points on the spread for a higher profit. The Thunder have covered the spread in four of their last six games, and they are 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games against divisional opponents.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 219.5 (-105) is the smart play as these are two of the worst offenses in the NBA. Both squads are averaging around 107 points per game and have each struggled over the last week. It’s going to be tough for either side to get over 110 points and that should allow the Under to cash.

Timberwolves at Spurs: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Spurs 110, Timberwolves 105

Money line (ML)

This is the third time and final time these two teams play this season. They split the first two games, both in Minnesota. The Spurs are wrapping up a five-game homestand and are 2-2 so far, having lost two in a row to the Memphis Grizzlies. Minnesota is only 2-8 since last playing the Spurs. Still without Towns, and perhaps without Russell, it will be tough to pick up this win on the road. Take the SPURS (-350).

Against the spread (ATS)

With both teams missing their top big men, this should not be a blowout. The Spurs are 12-9 ATS but have not been favored by this much all season. The Wolves covered the spread against the Spurs in both their previous matchups and I expect the same tonight. Take the TIMBERWOLVES +8.5 (+100).

Over/Under (O/U)

San Antonio is 10-11 O/U and Minnesota is 9-11 O/U this season. The Spurs’ last three games have gone Over, while the Timberwolves’ games have gone Under in their last two. They combine to average 218.5 points per game this season. Take UNDER 224.5 POINTS (-110).

Timberwolves at Cavaliers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Cavaliers 107, Timberwolves 104

Money line (ML)

The Cavaliers (-210) will cost you more than double your potential return in the second end of this home-and-home set. If anything, the Timberwolves (+170) would be worth a small-unit play after their 109-104 win over the Cavs in the Twin Cities Sunday evening.

PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

The TIMBERWOLVES +5.5 (-110) won outright as three-point underdogs in Minneapolis Sunday. If you missed out on that cover, don’t miss it again.

The Cavs are playing for the third time in four days, and fourth time in six days. They’ve looked tired in the first two games, outscored by an average of 105.5 to 92.5.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 217.5 (-110) is the way to go here. The Under cashed in the front end of the double dip, and in each of the past two games for the Cavs. The Under has also cashed in each of the past two for the T-Pups, and five of the past eight overall.

Minnesota is also averaging just 106.7 points per game on the season to rank 26th in the NBA, while Cleveland ranks 29th with just 104.2 PPG. Defensively, the Cavs have allowed 108.7 PPG, which is good for seventh in the league.

Cavaliers at Timberwolves: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Cavaliers 109, Timberwolves 101

Money line (ML)

The CAVALIERS (-160) aren’t terribly expensive if you don’t want to worry about the spread. Yes, they’re coming off an ugly 102-81 loss in New York. But the Timberwolves (+135) were also throttled in their most recent outing, and on their home floor, too. Minnesota was drummed 118-94 against Philadelphia on Friday.

Against the spread (ATS)

The CAVALIERS -3.5 (-110) failed to cover against the Knicks. In fact, it wasn’t even close. But they’re still a respectable 5-2 ATS across the past seven outings. The Timberwolves +3.5 (-110) enter on a three-game non-cover streak, and Minnesota is just 2-6 ATS across the past eight outings. Back the visitors.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 219.5 (-110) is the play in Saturday’s battle. While Minnesota has hit the Over in three of the past four, and they have allowed 110 or more points in four straight, look to the Under.

The T’Wolves score just 106.6 PPG to rank 26th in the NBA, while the Cavs rank just 29th in the league with 104.2 PPG. Defensively, Cleveland is a respectable seventh, posting 108.6 PPG in points allowed.

76ers at Timberwolves: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 113, Timberwolves 103

Money line (ML)

The 76ERS (-295) are huge favorites. They’ve won four of their last five games, including an impressive 107-106 win over the Los Angeles Lakers Wednesday night. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves have lost 13 of their last 15 games and will be without Towns once again.

Don’t expect this game to be all that close and for the 76ers to get another easy win.

Against the spread (ATS)

The 76ERS -6.5 (-110) are a smart play to win by 7 or more points, as they are against the spread 10-9. They’ve really played well over the last few weeks and the offense has picked up steam.

They should be able to get to 110 or more points in this game and the Timberwolves really don’t have any way to keep up. Take Philly to cover the spread Friday night in Minnesota.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 224.5 (-110) is the optimal play here as the Timberwolves just don’t have the offensive firepower to keep up in this game. Since Jan. 10, there have been four games in which the T-Wolves failed to reach 100 points. They should get close to that number Friday night, but it likely won’t be enough for the Over to hit unless the 76ers really explode on offense.

Take the Under as this should be a 110-100 type of game in Minnesota.

Timberwolves at Warriors: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Warriors 118, Timberwolves 108

Money line (ML)

The Warriors (-400) are huge money line favorites in this game after defeating the Timberwolves 130-108 on Monday night. Minnesota is in the midst of a really big slump as they have now lost 12 of their last 14 games. There is no reason to expect them to win this game, but there isn’t a ton of value on the Warriors either.

PASS on the money line here in favor of the point spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

WARRIORS -9.5 (-110) is the smart play here as they are just the more offensively gifted team. With C Karl-Anthony Towns out of the lineup as well as potentially PG D’Angelo Russell, the Timberwolves just don’t have enough offensive weapons to keep up. While this game could be closer than the Monday night contest, expect this to be another double-digit victory for Golden State.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 228.5 (-110) appears to be the right call here as Minnesota’s offense has really fallen off over the last few weeks. On the season, they are averaging just 107.1 points per game, 25th in the NBA. Golden State’s offense can be hit or miss depending on the night, but look for them to score in the upper 110s and for the Under to ultimately hit.

Pelicans at Timberwolves: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Pelicans 119, Timberwolves 107

Money line (ML)

The Pelicans (-350) will cost you three and a half times your potential return, which is just way too much, even if the Timberwolves (+260) are atrocious and missing their best player until at least mid-February. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

The PELICANS -7.5 (-110) are worth playing on the road, as they’re going to be angry after getting dusted in a pair of games at Utah on Tuesday and Thursday. Look for them to come out and take advantage of the beleaguered Timberwolves +7.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 222.5 (-110) is a good bet, as the Pellies enter on an 8-1 Over run across the past nine games, including each of the past three. The Over is also 4-1 in their previous five on the road.

The T-Pups have hit the Under in three in a row, but that’s mostly due to their inability to score the basketball. Defensively they’re not very good and will offer very little resistance until KAT comes back to clog up the middle.

Atlanta Hawks at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Atlanta Hawks at Minnesota Timberwolves NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Atlanta Hawks (7-7) drop by the Target Center Friday for an 8 p.m. ET tip-off against the Minnesota Timberwolves (3-10). Below, we analyze the Hawks-Timberwolves NBA odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Hawks clawed back from a 17-point deficit to beat the Detroit Pistons 123-115 in overtime and cover as 4.5-point favorites at home. Atlanta got amazing performances out of its frontcourt—PF John Collins put up 31 points and 11 rebounds and C Clint Capela dominated the interior with 27 points and 26 rebounds—while All-Star PG Trae Young dropped 38 points with 11 assists. Over their past five games, the Hawks are 3-2 straight-up and against the spread, including a 108-97 win over the Timberwolves in Atlanta  Jan. 18.

Minnesota has been terrible all season, losing three straight and 10 of its last 11 games. The Timberwolves have the second-lowest net rating in the NBA and are in the bottom-10th in effective field goal percentage, defensive rebounding percentage and assist to turnover ratio.

Hawks at Timberwolves: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hawks 117, Timberwolves 113

Money line (ML)

PASS with a slight lean to the Timberwolves (+185) since I like Minnesota to cover. Atlanta has a lot more talent and if they can shoot well—keep in mind the Timberwolves are one of the worst defensive teams in the league—this game could get out of hand.

Against the spread (ATS)

While on one hand, you could argue that the first Hawks-Timberwolves meeting was way more lopsided than the final score indicates, the biggest factor in the rematch is the probable absence of SF De’Andre Hunter.

There’s a lot of intriguing pieces on the Hawks, and if they can work out the kinks in their offense, Atlanta should be a lock for at least the postseason play-in tournament for the Eastern Conference.

However, I am here to tell you that Hunter is Atlanta’s best player with the most upside. The NBA is run by wings, and his ability to shoot from deep, finish around the rim and defend positions 1-4 make Hunter special.

Hunter scored a team-high 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting in the first Hawks-Timberwolves game and was key in making Minnesota’s SG Malik Beasley and SF Josh Okogie essentially non-factors.

BetMGM also saw the box score from this game and brought the line down a half-point from that meeting not because the Timberwolves are at home, but because Hunter will probably not be available.

GIMME TIMBERWOLVES +6.5 (-115) for a half-unit (pending final injury report).

Over/Under (O/U)

TAKE OVER 225.5 (-115) for 1 unit because BetMGM has overreacted too greatly to the first Hawks-Timberwolves result. In their first meeting this season, the Hawks-Timberwolves’ final score fell short of the 228.5-point projection by 23.5 points.

Bookmakers’ reacted by opening this total at 222 points, and the market has already steamed it up 3.5 points. Also, the previous five Hawks-Timberwolves meetings before the last went Over the total.

Finally, part of me thinks Atlanta’s ninth-best defensive rating is a bit of a mirage, and Hunter is the Hawks’ best on-the-ball defender. The OVER 225.5 (-115) is my favorite play here.
