Timberwolves at Thunder picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 118, Thunder 111

Moneyline

PASS.

There could be some value on the Thunder, but with largely the same key contributions as the roster last season which was 12-29 at home, I would pass and look toward the points for value.

Against the spread

BET THUNDER +8.5 (-115).

The Thunder were able to keep things close on the road in Denver which shows their size and ability to compete against a center like MVP Nikola Jokic.

Oklahoma City was 19-15-4 ATS as a home underdog last season, and it was 46-29-4 ATS as an underdog in general. An underdog in both games, the Thunder are 2-0 ATS just by keeping games close.

The Timberwolves have size and scoring, but it hasn’t defended well, allowing 120 points per game. Also, these teams kicked off the season against each other with the Thunder covering despite losing on the road.

Expect a close game, as OKC has played twice this season.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 228.5 (-108).

The first game between these two ended at 223 with no one on the Wolves scoring more than 25.

Minnesota has 2 All-Star caliber players that will likely be more efficient in the 2nd meeting. Both teams are 1-1 O/U this season with that being their lone misfire.

They both sit in the top half of the league in pace with Minnesota No. 1. As long as SGA is healthy, the Thunder should be able to keep up offensively as well.

That said, back the Over 226.5 (-108).

Minnesota Timberwolves at Oklahoma City Thunder odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Minnesota Timberwolves at Oklahoma City Thunder odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (34-29) visit Paycom Center Friday to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder (20-42). Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Timberwolves vs. Thunder odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Timberwolves are coming off a 15-point win over the Golden State Warriors as 3.5-point home underdogs. They have covered 3 of their last 4 and are 5-4-1 against the spread (ATS).

Minnesota is led by C Karl-Anthony Towns who is averaging 24.5 points per game. The Wolves currently sit 7th in the Western Conference.

That’s 7 spots higher than Oklahoma City who sits 14th in the conference with a 20-42 record. However, the Thunder are 37-21-4 ATS this season and are 14-10-4 ATS as a home underdog.

The Thunder are missing two key scorers, G Josh Giddey and G Lu Dort, but will have G Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who is averaging 23.6 points per game.

Timberwolves at Thunder odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 116, Thunder 110

Money line

PASS.

I like the Thunder to keep this game close, and their money line at +380 is the only playable side. However, I’d still look to the points for any team-specific value.

Against the spread

BET on the THUNDER +9.5 (-110).

The Thunder are 5-3-2 ATS over their last 10, riding high following a 12-point road win over the Nuggets as 15.5-point underdogs.

The Thunder may have a lengthy list of injuries, but it’s SGA who has singlehandedly propelled their recent success. He’s averaging 33.5 points per game over his last 4 games.

The Wolves rank 25th in defensive rating following the All-Star break with the Thunder sitting 16th. Minnesota is down its second-leading scorer, Edwards.

The Wolves should still come out on top, but I expect SGA and the Thunder to keep things close.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 230.5 (-110).

The Wolves have length in F Jaden McDaniels and Towns in the paint. Those two should be able to make shots difficult for SGA. Also, the Thunder’s strength this season has been defensive.

They rank 30th in points per game, 102.1.

While they’ve gone over in 5 of their last 6, they have yet to have a total at 230.5 in that stretch. This will be their highest total of the season. The Thunder also rank 30th in field goal percentage and three-point percentage.

The Wolves rank 6th in scoring but 24th in field goal percentage. With the Thunder the 2nd-best defensive rebounding team since the All-Star break, those second-chance opportunities should be limited.

Minnesota Timberwolves at Oklahoma City Thunder odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Minnesota Timberwolves at Oklahoma City Thunder odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (18-20) travel to Paycom Center to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder (13-24). Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Timberwolves vs. Thunder odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Timberwolves and Thunder are set to compete in their second battle of a two-game series. The Wolves won the initial matchup 98-90 Wednesday. F Anthony Edwards and G Patrick Beverley were the only two players to hit 20 points.

However, the Thunder have been far better at home and that first matchup was at Target Center. The Thunder are 12-5 ATS as a home underdog and are the second-best team against the spread at 24-13 ATS.

Minnesota is 1-1 ATS as a road favorite and 20-18 ATS on the season. The Wolves have the 16th-best net rating (minus-0.2) while the Thunder are 27th (minus-7.3). They’ve both within the league’s top half in defensive rating.

Timberwolves at Thunder odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Thunder 104, Timberwolves 101

Money line

SPRINKLE on the THUNDER (+180).

This is a good position for them coming off the road loss when the teams met Wednesday. OKC hasn’t played well on the road this season and are just 10-17 away from home. However, their win percentage jumps to 8-11 at Paycom Center.

The Thunder should be able to slow down Edwards and G D’Angelo Russell, two of Minnesota’s top-three scorers, with guards Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Lu Dort in the backcourt.

Against the spread

BET on the THUNDER +5.5 (-110).

This is a position the Thunder have been covering in all season — they’re 15-8 ATS following a loss. With that in mind and returning home where they’ve been far better this season, I’d back Oklahoma City.

The Minnesota defense is gritty, leading the league in opponents’ turnovers per game. However, the Thunder have the ninth-best turnover rate at home.

Their ability to keep the ball could be a huge factor in keeping this game close.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 216.5 (-108).

Both teams didn’t even get close to even 200 points Wednesday.

As noted previously, the strength of both teams is their defense. Furthermore, OKC has been one of the worst Over teams in the league with just a 14-23 O/U record.

However, it’s just a lean given the star power on the court.

Minnesota Timberwolves at Oklahoma City Thunder odds, picks and prediction

The Minnesota Timberwolves (6-16) take on the Oklahoma City Thunder (9-12) at Chesapeake Energy Arena Saturday night. Tip-off will be at 8 p.m. ET. This is the second game of a back-to-back. The Timberwolves won the first contest on a PG D’Angelo Russell three-point shot at the buzzer.

Timberwolves at Thunder: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Thunder 110, Timberwolves 107

Money line (ML)

The THUNDER (-105) are actually a slight underdog in this game despite a better record. But with both teams likely not being playoff-caliber teams this season, it’s not hard to see why oddsmakers set the line so close. Still, the Thunder are the better team, and there is some value on the moneyline here for OKC.

It is worth noting that despite the Timberwolves’ win on Friday night, they’ve still lost four of their last five games against the Thunder. Expect that to be the case once again Saturday evening.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

THUNDER (+1.5) is the pick in this one as they were able to keep this to a one-possession game Friday night. It came down to the final possession in a tie game, and the Timberwolves ultimately made the game-winning shot. However, the Thunder are still the more talented team and could be getting a few key contributors back on the floor in this rematch. Take the points here, and expect the Thunder to bounce back.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 218.5 feels like the right play once again as both offenses average 106 points per game. Friday night, these two teams combined for 209 points as the game was pretty sloppy on the offensive end. Don’t expect Saturday night to be all that different as the under should be the smart play.

Timberwolves at Thunder: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Thunder 109, Timberwolves 106

Money line (ML)

The THUNDER (-110) are the play on the money line. The Timberwolves have lost 16 of their last 19 games. Minnesota has lost nine straight road games but this game is somehow a pick ’em in OKC.

Oklahoma City will be without a few starters, but so will Minnesota as Towns is out and Russell is questionable. Gobble up the value here on OKC as the Thunder should win at home.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

If you are unsure about the money line, consider taking the THUNDER -1.5 (+100) to win by at least 2 points on the spread for a higher profit. The Thunder have covered the spread in four of their last six games, and they are 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games against divisional opponents.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 219.5 (-105) is the smart play as these are two of the worst offenses in the NBA. Both squads are averaging around 107 points per game and have each struggled over the last week. It’s going to be tough for either side to get over 110 points and that should allow the Under to cash.
