Who was the latest Cardinals player to wear the Pat Tillman jersey in practice?

Eifler was honored as the scout team player of the week.

It was on Oct. 29 that linebacker Milo Eifler arrived in Arizona to try out for the Cardinals and to then be signed to the practice squad.

Four weeks later and after only his third week of practice with the team, Eifler had the honor of wearing the No. 40 jersey as Scout Team Player of the Week for his work prior to last week’s game against the Seahawks.

He said, “I got here before the bye and tried to get acclimated to a new team, new system (having been) in the league for a little bit and picking up what coaches ask, being very detail oriented. Coach JG does a great job of allowing the players to know their roles, but at the same time being able to expand their role.”

Eifler, who played college ball at Washington and Illinois, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Jets in 2021. He’s played 15 NFL games with three and 10 for the Commanders, respectively in 2021 and 2022, and then two for the Falcons in 2023.

He played mostly on special teams and had six defensive snaps for the Commanders in a 2022 game against the Eagles. He was with the Falcons throughout the offseason and training camp this year, but was waived/injured on Aug. 27, placed on injured reserve the following day and then waived from IR on Oct. 21 before coming to the Cardinals the following week.

Eifler said he had to “try and learn special teams, talk to (special teams) Coach (Jeff) Rodgers and understand that and my position coach Sam (Siefkes), trying to understand the defense, picking up the pace slowly, but surely really honing in (knowing) if you’re a practice squad guy, the majority of the time you’re going to be a scout team guy.

“So making sure I’m putting in a little extra time watching the opposing team, just so that the offense can get that right look and knowing their middle linebacker is probably their best player, you want to emulate how he’s going to play or the style that the defense is so that can help my game and help our team prepare.”

Eifler was born in February of 1998, two months before Tillman was selected in the seventh round of the draft. He also grew up in the Oakland area, not far from where Tillman spent his youth.

Eifler said it’s been great this week “kind of recognizing Pat Tillman and how he’s honored by this organization and he’s also being from the Bay. I’m a Bay Area guy, so it’s always good to represent the Bay Area.

“It’s just an honor knowing that he was a hard worker and I pride myself doing the gritty work and doing whatever it takes to help my team win. It’s an honor being able to put that jersey on and it gives you an extra chip on your shoulder.”

Noting how the Cardinals have preserved Tillman’s locker, Eifler said, “I took a picture of it and sent it to my family immediately. It’s nice having some recognition in the building.”

That family includes his adoptive parents David Eifler and Rachel Morello-Frosch, who both are professors at Cal-Berkeley.

Morello-Foesch has a master’s and doctorate degree in public health and teaches in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management and School of Public Health. In 2021, she was on the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council and the next year was elected a member of the National Academy of Medicine for being a “renowned expert on structural determinants of environmental health inequities” and a “leader in the application of community-engaged data science.”

Eifler said his mom, a breast cancer survivor, counseled him during the pandemic when he was deciding whether to play in 2020 at Illinois, which he did.

“Anything health related, she was kinda on top of it,” Eifler said. “She was so involved in COVID. I took care of my health with her help trying to broaden my horizons bigger than football.”

Which makes it important to him that he is wearing the jersey of someone that created a legacy beyond football.

Despite being from the northern California area, Eifler said, “I wasn’t aware of his name until I started playing for the Pac-12 at Washington. I wasn’t introduced to him at a younger age because I wasn’t around football until I started playing football pretty late in my junior year of high school.

“When I went to play at Arizona State (in 2017) and saw his statue, I realized the significance of what he stood for. Now being part of the organization, you can’t forget about it.”

Eagles sign former Commanders/Ron Rivera draft pick

Two of Rivera’s former draft picks find new teams.

The Eagles felt they needed another offensive lineman under their roof, so they signed a lineman the Commanders released earlier this season.

As the Commanders approached opening day, they released offensive guard/tackle Braeden Daniels.

The Commanders drafted Daniels in the fourth round, 118th overall, in the 2023 NFL draft. It was Ron Rivera’s last draft, beginning what would be his final season in Washington.

Daniels was noticeably behind the other offensive linemen during his rookie training camp, so the Commanders placed him on season-ending injured reserve in hopes that he would develop and be ready to contribute in 2024.

However, Daniels was released on August 27 by the new administration of head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters. Two days later, the Houston Texans signed Daniels to their practice squad; however, he was released after only two weeks.

The following week, the Chargers signed Daniels to their practice squad before releasing him only five days later. Thus, in summary, Daniels was drafted in the fourth round, and now, in his second season, he has yet to make an active roster during the regular season.

Three other former Commanders were also signed to practice squads on Wednesday.

The Cardinals (4-4), tied for the lead in the NFC West, signed former Commanders linebacker Milo Eifler. Playing with Washington in 2021 and 2022, Eifler appeared in 13 games. His biggest moment was tackling the punter in the 2022 season finale against the Cowboys.

The Carolina Panthers (1-7) signed receiver/returner Dax Milne. Drafted in the seventh round (258 overall), Milne played in 28 games for Washington in 2021 and 2022. He collected 15 receptions for 120 yards, including a 6-yard touchdown in a home loss to the Vikings in 2022. Returning 40 punts, he had a long return of 19 yards.

Finally, kicker Riley Patterson was signed by the Jets. Patterson kicked in the preseason for Washington before being released on August 22.

Falcons elevate LB Milo Eifler, TE Parker Hesse for Week 13

The Falcons elevated TE Parker Hesse and LB Milo Eifler from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Jets

The Atlanta Falcons have announced their practice squad elevations for this weekend’s matchup against the New York Jets. Linebacker Milo Eifler and tight end Parker Hesse will join the team’s 53-man roster in Week 13.

This will be Eifler’s first elevation since signing with the practice squad. Hesse has already been elevated for two other games this season, including the team’s Week 12 win over the Saints.

The Falcons are relatively healthy heading into Sunday’s game. Wide receiver Mack Hollins and cornerback Mike Hughes were listed as questionable on the team’s Friday injury report.

Colts worked out 8 players

The Colts worked out eight players on Monday.

The Indianapolis Colts worked out eight players at various positions, according to the league’s transaction wire Monday.

As they look to bounce back from the season-opening loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Colts will continue to look for depth across the roster.

Here are the eight players the Colts worked out Monday:

Commanders re-sign two defensive players for 2023

More depth signings for Washington’s defense and special teams.

The Washington Commanders made two roster moves Tuesday.

Following applying the franchise tag to defensive tackle Daron Payne, the Commanders then signed LB Milo Eifler and CB Rachad Wildgoose to one-year contract extensions for the 2023 season.

Eifler came to Washington in December of 2021, having been signed to the Dolphins practice squad and later released. In March of 2022, the Commanders re-signed Eifler; however, he was injured and placed on injured reserve in October.

November 25, Eifler was activated again to the roster and is perhaps best remembered for his tackle in the season finale on a botched Dallas punt.

The 6-foot-1 228-pound linebacker appeared in 3 games in the 2021 season and 10 games during the 2022 season. He played his college ball first at the University of Washington before transferring to Illinois.

Wildgoose was waived by the Jets and quickly claimed by the Commanders on Aug. 31, 2022. Wildgoose had appeared in only 5 games for the Jets in 2021; however, the Commanders played him in 15 games in 2022, as he was in on 195 defensive snaps and 90 special teams snaps.

The 5-foot-11, 197-pound cornerback played his college ball at Wisconsin before the Bills drafted him in the 6th round (213 overall) of the 2021 NFL draft.

Commanders LB concern: Cole Holcomb to IR

Cole Holcomb was placed on IR, and he will be out for a minimum of four weeks.

Linebacker Cole Holcomb’s foot injury is not progressing; consequently, the starting linebacker has been placed on injured reserve.

Holcomb the sturdy linebacker out of North Carolina, started the Commanders first seven games of the season. The loss of Holcomb is substantial, evidenced by the fact that though Holcomb has been unable to play in the last four games, the former Tar Heel still leads the team in combined tackles (solo and assists) with 69.

Jamin Davis has continued to develop, or this loss of Holcomb would have been an absolute disaster. Davis has played in all 11 games and is second in tackles with 58 (38 solo, 20 assists).

Placing Holcomb (a four-year veteran) on the reserve/injured list, Friday, the Commanders activated LB Milo Eifler from the Reserve/Injured list. Eifler stands 6-foot-1 weighing 228. Thus Eifler is more mobile than Holcomb, Jon Bostic, or David Mayo.

Eifler has appeared in two games for the Commanders in 2022. He did not play any defensive snaps in the loss to the Cowboys in Week 4 while playing 13 special teams’ plays. In the Week 3 loss to the Eagles, Eifler played 19 special teams’ plays and six defensive plays.

Of note, three weeks ago, the Commanders in response to the Holcomb injury, brought up LB De’Jon Harris from the practice squad. Harris is bigger at 6-foot-0, 245 pounds. In weeks 9-11, Harris has played 19, 20 and 21 special teams snaps. He has yet to play a down on defense for the Commanders this season.

The Commanders will go into Sunday’s contest against the Falcons with Davis, Bostic, Eifler, Harris, Khaleke Hudson and David Mayo at linebacker.

Washington has 17 players on COVID list as matchup with Eagles looms

#WashingtonFootball places 7 players on COVID list, bringing total to 17 as matchup with Philadelphia #Eagles looms

The Eagles return home to Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday and their NFC East opponent could be depleted from a personnel standpoint before kickoff arrives.

Washington announced that they’ve placed seven more players on the COVID-19 reserve list Wednesday. The team now has 17 players on the list.

The team placed quarterback Kyle Allen, linebacker Milo Eifler, safety Darrick Forrest, defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis, offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas, tight end Sammis Reyes and receiver Cam Sims on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

While starting quarterback Taylor Heinicke is expected to be available, Washington signed quarterback Jordan Ta’amu to its practice squad, joining Kyle Shurmur.

Washington currently has eight available defensive linemen for Sunday’s game against the Eagles, with defensive tackle Daron Payne the only starter that’s available.

Washington signed Nate Orchard off of Green Bay’s practice squad Tuesday and they’ll likely rotate defensive ends Daniel Wise, Shaka Toney, Bunmi Rotimi along with practice squad defensive tackles Gabe Wright, Hercules Mata’afa, and David Bada.
