4-star QB Miles O’Neill signs with Texas A&M over Penn State and Michigan State

Former offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino may have departed College Station but his hard work on the recruiting trail wasn’t all for naught.

Former Texas A&M offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino may have departed Bryan-College Station but his hard work on the recruiting trail was not all for naught.

The latest example of that is the Aggies signing of Miles O’Neill, a 4-star quarterback from Hun High School in Princeton, N.J.

O’Neill is listed at 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds. He verbally committed to Texas A&M back in June and announced his decision via X.

The versatile quarterback had 14 total offers. He took only two visits, to Kyle Field and the University of Virginia. Other notable schools that he had offers to include Boston College, Connecticut, Maryland, Michigan State, Penn State and Pittsburgh.

During his senior year with the Raiders, O’Neill earned New Jersey Prep A Offensive Player of the Year honors. In his final season, O’Neill completed 106-of-147 pass attempts for 2,151 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. O’Neill will graduate from Hun on June 7.

2024 4-Star QB and Aggie commit Miles O’Neill continues to show of his incredible arm talent

Watch 2024 4-star QB and Aggie commit Miles O’Neill once again show off his arm strength!

The future at the quarterback position in the age of the transfer portal is always fluid for nearly every Power 5 college football program, and for Texas A&M, starting QB Conner Weigman is currently the position’s star representative. Still, the future may lie with 2024 four-star QB and A&M commit Miles O’Neill, based on what we’ve witnessed thus far.

Evaluating quarterbacks year after year is a struggle in accurately projecting future success. Still, suppose a player consistently displays the most critical traits ranging from arm strength, accuracy, touch, and ability to make plays out of structure. In that case, it’s up to every coaching staff lucky enough to land a premier signal caller to aid their development.

O’Neill, a senior at the Hun School in Princeton, New Jersey, committed to Texas A&M and then-head coach Jimbo Fisher in mid-June and has been rising in the recruiting rankings ever since. Possessing all the traits above, O’Neill’s elastic arm has continuously wowed every Aggie fan and media member alike, most recently displayed during a workout, as seen in the video below.

Yes, it’s O’Neill’s arm strength that sticks out at first view, but how softly the ball dropped into his receiver grasp, coupled with his release, shows a player who has continued to grow and looks like a perfect fit in new Texas A&M offensive coordinator Colin Klein’s scheme once he steps on campus next season and begins his development journey.

According to 247Sports Composite, Miles O’Neill is the 28th-ranked quarterback in the 2024 cycle and the 8th-ranked player out of New Jersey.

WATCH: 2024 4-Star QB and Aggie commit Miles O’Neill continues to show off his incredible arm talent

2024 4-Star quarterback Miles O’Neill continues to show off his live arm while training with the M2 QB Academy

Texas A&M may have found the ultimate steal of the 2024 recruiting class in four-star quarterback and Massachusetts native Miles O’Neill, who, after committing to the Aggies on June 14, has skyrocketed up the recruiting rankings throughout the summer.

With 20 verbal commitments thus far, Jimbo Fisher’s recruiting acumen still can’t be denied, no matter how poorly the Aggies performed on the field during the 2022 season.

Standing at an imposing 6-5 and 225 pounds, O’Neill isn’t statuesque in the pocket by any means, consistently grabbing your attention from the onset. At the same time, his various highlights show a player with incredible arm strength and touch on vertical routes, corner routes, and seam routes, tossing 50-plus yard bombs with ease.

This weekend, O’Neill has continued his training at the New England based-M2 QB Academy, a development group he has worked with since December. By the looks of it, all that hard work has paid off in spades. Unsurprisingly, O’Neill continued to show his live arm while throwing passes that looked like they were shot out of a cannon.

According to On3’s newest On300 positional rankings, O’Neill is the 6th-ranked quarterback in the class and the 58th-ranked player, the 6th-ranked quarterback, and the No.1-ranked player in New Jersey in the 2024 class. O’Neill joins three-star duel-threat quarterback Anthony Maddox Jr. as the two signal callers in the cycle.

During his 2022 junior campaign at Hun High School (Marblehead, MA). O’Neill threw for over 2,500 yards and 28 total touchdowns while completing close to 73% of his passes.

Watch: 2024 4-star QB and Aggie commit Miles O’Neill shows off his arm talent

2024 4-star quarterback and Aggie commit Miles O’Neill shows why his profile has continued to rise in the recruiting ranks this summer.

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class is already loaded with talent at nearly every position, and while wide receiver, specifically the additions of Cam Coleman, Drelon Miller, Jaylan Hornsby, Debron Gatling, and Ernest Campbell stands out the most, four-star quarterback and Massachusetts native Miles O’Neill may just be the steal of the cycle when it’s all said and done.

He is entering his senior season at Hun High School (Marblehead, MA). After throwing for over 2,500 yards and 28 total touchdowns while completing close to 73% of his passes during his 2022 junior campaign, O’Neill’s 6-5 and 225 pound-frame grabs your attention from the onset, while his various highlights show a player with incredible arm strength and touch on vertical routes, corner routes, and seam routes, tossing 50-plus yard bombs with ease.

This weekend, Twitter granted us a quick reel of O’Neill casually tossing bullet-train-like passes with pristine accuracy during his time at the New England based-M2 QB Academy, a development group he has worked with since December. By the looks of it, all that hard work has paid off in spades.

2024 4-star QB Miles O’Neill is now ranked in the Top 10 at the position in On3’s newest rankings

According to On3’s On300 rankings, 2024 4-star QB and Aggie commit Myles O’Neill is a Top 10 ranked signal caller.

Since Jimbo Fisher arrived at Texas A&M, one main criticism lobbed his way during every recruiting cycle has been the lack of elite quarterback talent making its way to College Station, up until landing five-star quarterback Conner Weigman in the 2022 cycle, who is poised to earn the starting position ahead of the 2023 season.

Since the 2019 recruiting class, Fisher has signed at least one signal caller in every cycle, while quarterbacks Zach Calzada and Haynes King’s once bright futures resulted in 17 combined starts, while the Aggies’ 2022 5-7 season saw nearly every healthy quarterback on the roster see time due to injury and poor play, culminating with a glimmer of hope from Conner Weigman’s (8 TD’s 0 INT) solid finish to the year.

Looking ahead at the position, Fisher and his staff struck gold after receiving a verbal commitment from 2024 four-star quarterback Miles O’Neill out of Massachusetts, one of the more underrated prospects in the cycle; standing at a whopping 6-5 and 220 pounds, everything is there from a physical standpoint, while his various highlights show a player with incredible arm strength and touch on vertical routes, corner routes, and seam routes, tossing 50-plus yard bombs with ease.

According to On3’s newest On300 positional rankings, O’Neill is the 6th-ranked quarterback in the class and the 58th-ranked player in the 2024 class. He is heading into his final senior season with Hun High School (Marblehead, MA). After throwing for over 2,500 yards and 28 total touchdowns while completing close to 73% of his passes during his 2022 junior campaign, I can safely say that this future is definitely beaming with potential.

Texas A&M Football 2024 commits skyrocket in 247Sports latest player rankings

Several members of Texas A&M’s Top 10-ranked 2024 recruiting class skyrocketed in the latest 247Sports composite player rankings.

On Monday afternoon, several members of Texas A&M’s Top 10-ranked 2024 recruiting class received significant boosts in the 247Sports composite player rankings, as just two weeks remain before the recruiting dead period ends on Tuesday, July 25.

New Jersey quarterback Miles O’Neill, who committed to the Aggies on June 14, rose 518 spots to No. 368 in 247Sports composite. IOL Coen Echols rose 345 spots to No. 399, and edge Gabriel Reliford made a seismic leap of 345 spots to No. 408 in the composite.

That cumulates to a combined 1,216 spots in the 247Sports composite rankings, while most notably, all three received a fourth-star in the process.

With 16 hard commits to date, Texas A&M’s 2024 class ranks No. 9 overall in the 247Sports composite. It also moves the Aggies up to one spot to No. 3 overall in SEC, behind only No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Florida. The Maroon and White jumped LSU, who fell to the conference’s No. 4 ranked recruiting class.

The Aggies have received plenty of slander heading into a critical 2023 season, but as loud as the naysayers hope to be, there is one thing they cannot dispute: Jimbo Fisher and his staff continue to flex their recruiting prowess. It’ss clear they are well on their way to bringing another top-15 class to College Station, and at this rate, it may be a question of whether the Aggies boast a potential top-five class once the dust settles.

Several 2024 Texas A&M Football commits rise in On3’s newest player rankings

Texas A&M’s 2024 class is loaded with talent, and several commits have received huge boosts in the newest On3, On300 player rankings.

On Monday afternoon, several members of Texas A&M’s Top 10-ranked 2024 recruiting class received significant boosts in On3’s On300 player rankings, while the Aggies’ Team rankings also rose from 9th to 7th, as just two weeks remain before the recruiting dead period ends on Tuesday, July 25.

New Jersey quarterback Miles O’Neill, who committed to the program on June 14, catapulted from being unranked in the Top 300 to his current position at 58th in the country, the most significant rise of any previously unranked prospect in the 2024 cycle, while receiving a four-star designation as well. O’Neill skyrocketing the recruiting ranks is no surprise; his live arm and sneaky duel-threat ability are hard to ignore in a quarterback-rich class.

Five-star wide receiver Cameron Coleman committed to the Maroon and White excitingly on Tuesday, July 4, and ever since that day, his recruiting profile has garnered attention. Rising seven spots from 13th to 6th in the rankings, while it’s hard to imagine him not making his way within the Top 5 by the end of his senior season at Phenix City High School, he is poised to be his most productive yet.

Other 2024 Aggie commits to saw an increase in their rankings include four-star OT Weston Davis (20th from 102nd), four-star IOL Coen Enchols (222nd from 375th), and four-star Tight end Eric Karner (288th from 375th), and now four-star Edge Gabriel Reliford’s meteoric rise from 441st to 121st.

Interestingly, multiple commits saw significant dips in the rankings, including four-star DE Dealyn Evans (67th to 138th), four-star S Jordan Pride (128th to 168th), and most surprisingly, dynamic four-star WR Drelon Millers’ drop from 82nd to 175th. Well, when it comes to rankings by any outlet, they should always be taken with a grain of salt, but as things stand, Jimbo Fisher and his staff are very close to landing a top 5 2024 recruiting class when it’s all said and done.

Texas A&M’s huge recruiting week is a sign of things to come

After landing three prospects in two days, Texas A&M is just getting started as they continue to build their 2024 recruiting class.

What a week it was for Texas A&M and Head Coach Jimbo Fisher, as the 2024 recruiting class gained three more commitments on Thursday and Friday, consisting of four-star tight end Eric Karner, four-star linebacker Jordan Lockhart, and three-star offensive lineman Coen Echols, just a week after landing three-star quarterback Miles O’Neill, who possesses one of the livest arms in the high school football ranks.

With ten commitments, the class now comprises seven four-star, and three three-star prospects, sitting at 28th in Rivals’ newest 2024 recruiting rankings, placed one spot ahead of Alabama. These four recent additions committing in a two-week span is not the norm, yet one thing remains true after last week’s results; this is just the beginning of their momentum ride.

To start, four-star wide receiver Jaylan Hornsby, who recently announced his July 1 commitment announcement on Friday, is an overwhelming favorite to land with the Maroon and White in just less than a week from now, while the following recent June 2, June 9, and June 16 visitors are all trending towards the Aggies.

  • Four-star IOL Makai Saina
  • Four-star WR Ernest Campbell
  • Four-star OT Bennett Warren
  • Four-star OT Blake Ivy
  • Four-star IOL Isendre Ahfua

While several recruiting battles continue, especially concerning five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley, Jimbo Fisher, and his staff have made positive strides that shouldn’t be ignored, and as the recruiting dead period begins on Monday, June 26 through Monday, July 24.

A quick reminder about the upcoming Dead Period: Considered “not permissible” to make in-person recruiting contacts or evaluations, both on and off campus, meaning unofficial and official visits are not allowed during this time.

What Texas A&M is getting in 2024 3-star Quarterback, Miles O’Neill

After committing to the Aggies last week, 2024 3-star quarterback Miles O’Neill has all the makings of becoming a future starter.

Last Wednesday, Texas A&M and Jimbo Fisher landed one of the more underrated signal callers in the 2024 cycle, as Fisher and his staff once again pulled a coup in the East Coast region, as three-star Massachusetts quarterback Miles O’Neill chose the Aggies over Boston College down the stretch.

Without being able to see him in person, going off of his available tape, as limited as it is, was enough to witness this young man’s potential once he finds his footing in a collegiate offense. First off, standing at a whopping 6-5 and 220 pounds, everything is there from a physical standpoint, while his various highlights show a player with incredible arm strength and touch on vertical routes, corner routes, and seam routes, tossing 50-plus yard bombs with ease.

There is a distinct difference between a big-armed armed thrower and a strong thrower with touch. O’Neill fits the latter to a T. Playing in a vertical-based offensive scheme throughout most of his high school career, his out-of-structure throws combat O’Neill’s consisting throwing down the field throws in the middle of the field is where he has struggled, mainly due to his off-balance throwing motion due to a lack of finesse, mostly because of his size, placing less velocity on his throws to hit his target accurately.

In the pocket, O’Neill’s footwork and balance have improved year to year. Once things get ugly, his ability to escape upfield with surprising speed and agility is highly promising, as quarterbacks are expected to develop at least some duel-threat ability as defenses continue to become more athletic.

Overall, Bobby Petrino’s hiring as Texas A&M’s new offensive coordinator could spell success future success for Miles O’Neill, whose strong arm, football intelligence (4.0 GPA), and mistake-freak play in the vertical game is just what Jimbo Fisher and Petrino are looking for at the quarterback position. Gig ‘Em, Miles!
