WATCH: Former Ohio State QB Joe Burrow proclaims he’s still a Buckeye

The debate is over with Joe Burrow #GoBucks

There is always an argument as to who a school can claim after a player transfers, especially in a situation like former [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] quarterback [autotag]Joe Burrow[/autotag]. Even though Burrow won a national championship and Heisman Trophy with LSU, fans are divided on who can claim the Cincinnati Bengal star.

Burrow put an end to some of the debate. A viral clip of him stating “I’m still a Buckeye” has been circulating Twitter. Not only did the Athens native say  Ohio State can claim him as one of their NFL alumni, he still has a relationship with head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag], quarterback coach [autotag]Corey Dennis[/autotag], strength coach [autotag]Mickey Marotti[/autotag] and “all those guys.”

So let this be the end of the debate. Burrow is an OSU graduate, got some of his training in Columbus, and was even seen on the Ohio State sideline during the game against Notre Dame.

He can be both an LSU Tiger and a Buckeye.

Mickey Marotti reportedly to stay at Ohio State

Ohio State strength and conditioning coach Mickey Marotti will not join Urban Meyer in Jacksonville, will be staying at OSU.

[jwplayer LhmX04e8]

Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer has been named the new head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. It ends a retirement that lasted just two years and brings forth all kinds of speculation. How long will he last? How successful will he be at the next level? And if you are an OSU fan, will he be bringing anyone from Columbus to his staff in JAX?

When it comes to that latter point, it has some Buckeye fans a little worried. After all, a lot of the assistant coaches still at Ohio State were brought there by Meyer and still have a relationship with him. One of those key figures is head strength and conditioning coach Mickey Marotti, who has been known as Meyer’s right-hand man through stops at Florida and OSU.

He is perhaps the most important figure in the Buckeye football program aside from head coach Ryan Day. A loss of Marotti would be a significant one. And, to put everyone’s nerves at ease, according to the Columbus Dispatch (subscription may be required), sources indicated that Marotti will be staying at Ohio State.

That is great news when you start discussing some behind the scenes things that go into how and why the OSU program has continually performed at a high level year after year. And for now, it looks like the official titled assistant athletic director for football sports performance isn’t going anywhere.

With that in mind, we still don’t know what Meyer’s staff will look like, but he has gone on record stating that he’s not going to ransack the Ohio State staff.

WATCH: Urban Meyer says he wouldn’t have come to Ohio State without Mickey Marotti

Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer “probably wouldn’t have taken the job” without strength and conditioning coach Mickey Marotti.

There are some parts of a college football program that are simply underrated. It’s not just about hiring the right head coach. He has to fill out a staff with the best people he can find, put them in the right place and let them go to work.

According to former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, one of his non-negotiable terms for taking the job in Columbus at the tail end of 2011 was the ability to bring his strength and conditioning guy on staff. You know him by now, it’s none other than Mickey Marotti who is now known as the assistant athletic director of sports performance.

I’m not sure the average fan knows just how much time a guy like Marotti spends with the team. After the season and up until fall camp, he’s really the guy running the show with workouts, conditioning, communication, and more. So much so that Meyer used to have a ceremony where Marotti would officially hand the team over to the head coach when it was time to do so for the fall.

Watch the below when Meyer sat down with Rick Pizzo of BTN to discuss how much Marotti meant to the head coach of Ohio State, and what he still means to the program today. Urban even says that had Marotti not came to the Ohio State with him, he “probably wouldn’t have taken the job.”

Interesting stuff here from Meyer, but we’ve heard him sing the praises of Marotti before. It’s another reason why keeping him on staff with the transition over to Ryan Day was so important and taken care of before almost anything else.

Ohio State is lucky to have a guy like Mickey Marotti, and he probably doesn’t get enough credit from outside the program as he should.

Ohio State assistant AD and strength coach Mickey Marotti provides update

Ohio State assistant AD and strength coach Mickey Marotti was made available to media via teleconference this week. Here his updates here.

The entire college football world is trying to will the season into existence, hoping a plan can be put in place to allow Ohio State and other big-time programs to have games this fall.

One of the most challenging aspects of keeping a team like OSU on top is a strength and conditioning program. The Buckeyes have one of the best in the business with Mickey Marotti in charge, but it hasn’t been easy to try and mold these finely tuned athletes without the benefit of in-person meetings and workout regimens.

Marotti was made available to members of the media this week and provided an update on how the strength and conditioning program is working through the COVID-19 pandemic. He agreed that it is the most challenging season of his career, but they are being creative with household items like milk jugs, chin-up bars, etc.

Mickey Marotti trolls Ohio State football team with April Fools joke

Ohio State strength and conditioning coach Mickey Marotti told his team he was moving on to pursue a dream. April Fools everyone.

I will admit, I am not a big fan of the date April 1. Not just this year (though it seems much heavier than in years’ past), but any year. From my family pouring salt in my coffee, to taking the batteries out of the remote, I seem to always be walking on eggshells during April Fools Day.

Surprisingly enough, the day this year has been rather uneventful in the Harrison household, but that doesn’t mean others weren’t taken to task on some ill-advised jokes.

Take the Ohio State football team for instance. In a virtual meeting on Wednesday, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day gave the floor to strength and conditioning coach Mickey Marotti. From there, things got a little scary.

Watch as Marotti tells those on the meeting that he’s moving on to other opportunities to chase a dream of his. We won’t spoil what that is, but it had to have some hearts in throats of some of the Ohio State players.

If you listen closely, you can hear Day chuckle under his breath as Marotti plays a very cruel April Fools joke.

For me, and probably for some that were the brunt of this joke, the best part of April 1 is that it comes to an end at midnight. But yeah, this was a pretty good one.

Ohio State using Clemson loss as motivation, has new sign with Fiesta Bowl score

Ohio State has installed a sign in the weight room reminding all the players of the loss to Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl.

[jwplayer U7nrvsxD-o2AELQvx]

Ohio State strength and conditioning coach Mickey Marotti met with the media today to provide an update on the team and winter conditioning. The team is Ryan Day’s, but during the offseason, it’s coach Mick’s wholly and specifically.

One of the revelations that came from the media session is the motivation the loss to Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl is providing. Coaches always look for ways to get teams going. They push buttons, they try unusual tactics and prod and pry where they think they can, to mold the future state of the team.

In this case, the coaching staff has decided to install a sign of the Fiesta Bowl score in the weight room — a place where pushing that extra mile yields tangible results.

We already know about the Michigan countdown clock, and the one that show’s the time of the next opponent, but now it appears as though the players and coaches will be reminded of how close they came every time they enter the weight room.

If that’s not worth one more bench press, bicep curl, or military press, I don’t know what is.
