MSU Basketball vs. Wisconsin: Stream, broadcast info, prediction for Tuesday

Check out all of the key game details for this matchup between the Spartans and Badgers

Michigan State basketball will tip off conference play on Tuesday night in a big-time home matchup against Wisconsin.

The Spartans enter this game with a disappointing 4-3 overall record on the year, with all three of their losses coming against ranked foes. Michigan State’s only relatively marquee win is over Butler in the Gavitt Games.

Wisconsin comes into this game with some momentum following an upset of in-state rival Marquette over the weekend. That win pushed Wisconsin to 6-2 overall this year and into the top 25 at No. 23.

Michigan State basketball will return to the court on Friday for a Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals matchup against Wisconsin.

The Spartans survived a late-game collapse on Thursday to knock off Maryland, 76-72, in a second round matchup. Michigan State led by as many as 20 points in the second half before committing numerous turnovers down the stretch to nearly blow the game.

Wisconsin had a double-bye in the Big Ten Tournament and will be taking the court for the first time since losing in their regular season finale against Nebraska. The Badgers are expected to get back leading scorer Johnny Davis for this matchup — Davis suffered a lower-body injury in the loss to Nebraska.

Here are the game details for Friday’s game between the Spartans and Badgers:

Big Ten puts full-contact practices on hold

The Big Ten has put a stop to full-padded practices.

The tenuous state of college football in the fall of 2020 took another hit Saturday with the Big Ten Conference announcing it is pausing full-contact practices due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Big Ten will not proceed to padded practices, instead remain w/helmets only. Big Ten: “We understand there are many questions regarding how this impacts schedules, as well as the feasibility of proceeding forward with the season at all”

The statement released by the conference:

The Big Ten Conference announced today, based on the advice and counsel of the Big Ten Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Big Ten Sports Medicine Committee, that, until further notice, all institutions will remain in the first two days of the acclimatization period in football (i.e., helmets shall be the only piece of protective equipment student-athletes may wear) as we continue to transition prudently through preseason practice. All other fall sports will continue to work locally with team physicians and athletic trainers to adjust practices to the appropriate level of activity, as necessary, based on current medical protocols.

Each new phase of activity provides new intelligence and experience and allows us to evaluate the implementation of our Conference and institutional medical protocols in real-time. In order to make the right health and safety decisions for our student-athletes, we believe it is best to continue in the appropriate phase of activity referenced above while we digest and share information from each campus to ensure we are moving forward cautiously.

We understand there are many questions regarding how this impacts schedules, as well as the feasibility of proceeding forward with the season at all. As we have consistently stated, we will continue to evaluate daily, while relying on our medical experts, to make the best decisions possible for the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes.

Wisconsin March Moments: 2004 Big Ten semis vs Michigan State

Badger memories

The staff at Badgers Wire has been trying to get a handle on regular life recently, and we’re sure you have been trying to do the same in the midst of the uncertainty, stress, and worry caused by COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus. This has disrupted American life. It has brought March Madness to a halt. It is something which demands our attention — not so that we can indulge in panic (we shouldn’t), not so that we sink into depression and dread (though the subject matter is very serious and alarming), but in order that we can sufficiently prepare, plan, and give our communities the best possible chance of minimizing the scope and scale of this crisis.

All of us at Badgers Wire hope you will get the essential items you need (lots of pantry food which you can use in the event of a quarantine or lockdown, which might occur weeks or months from now; soap or sanitizer; disinfectants or cleaners to keep surfaces clean inside your home). We hope you will self-isolate to the fullest extent that you can (in other words, for non-essential activities — those have to be on hold for awhile). We are praying for the country, which means we on staff are praying for you and your family, and for the whole University of Wisconsin family.

Our necessary attention on real life — and trying to defend against this global pandemic — has limited our output in recent days. We know, though, that we have a website to continue and maintain. We also know that after a few frantic days of stocking up and getting your lives in order, you’re probably ready for some Wisconsin sports content as a distraction.

My colleague Asher Low has begun to write about the past season of Wisconsin basketball. I am going to go inside the Badger Vault and give you a chance to rewatch significant Wisconsin postseason basketball games. This is the start of a YouTube UW basketball rabbit hole! Give yourself an escape from all the worrying events around you. Stay safe and remember some great Wisconsin hoops moments.

This is Big Ten Tournament weekend, so we’re going to start by sharing Big Ten Tournament moments. First up: the 2004 Big Ten Tournament semifinal against Michigan State. Wisconsin won 68-66, en route to its first Big Ten Tournament title.

Jim Nantz and Billy Packer are on the call for CBS:

Enjoy. Our thoughts are with you and all Americans in this difficult time.
