MSU ends MSG woes, defeats Rutgers

Michigan State basketball has not had their fair share of luck at Madison Square Garden, but on Saturday, their luck changed. The Spartans defeated Rutgers inside of MSG, 81-74.

The Spartans played their type of game, and controlled the pace of play for the majority of the contest.

Jade Richardson had a big game with 20 points, leading the way, while Coen Carr added 14 points and Jaden Akins had 12 points.

Michigan State will return home on Tuesday when they take on Minnesota inside of the Breslin Center.

Abysmal performance by MSU ends the 2024 season

Michigan State football was playing for a bowl game on Saturday, with an attempt to extend their season. What fans got was an uninspiring performance, and the Spartans got absolutely dominated by Rutgers, losing 41-14.

Whether it be another lackluster offensive performance, or the defensive injuries crippling the secondary and an abysmal pass rush, the Spartans were dominated in every phase of the game.

The season’s end may come gracefully, as fans can now forget about yet another disappointing year of Spartan football.

Michigan State softball is getting set to conclude their 2024 regular season. While it has not been the best season for the Spartans, the program has shown continued improvements in Sharonda McDonald-Kelley’s second season as head coach.

Michigan State baseball wins first B1G home series of 2024

MSU wins their first Big Ten home series of the season

Michigan State welcomed in Rutgers this past weekend for a 3-game Big Ten matchup with the Scarlet Knights.

After dropping the first game of the weekend, 4-2, the Spartans were able to muster up a couple of wins to take two out of three from Rutgers.

The Spartans improve to 12-14 on the year, and are slowly climbing themselves back ahead of that .500 number.

MSU will have two weekday games this week, one on the road at Notre Dame on Tuesday, with the second being the Crosstown Showdown against the Lansing Lugnuts.

It has been a roller coaster of a season already for Michigan State basketball. A bad start before a hot run was halted by a two game losing skid at Northwestern and Illinois. Though, the Spartans were able to right the ship on Sunday against Rutgers, beating the Scarlet Knights at home, 73-55.

The Spartans have a favorable stretch of games upcoming, and getting a win against a pesky Rutgers team was imperative in making sure they take advantage of the upcoming stretch.

Michigan State basketball blows game against Rutgers at Madison Square Garden

MSU blows early second half lead, drops key Big Ten game against Rutgers

It was an ugly showing at Madison Square Garden in New York for the Michigan State Spartans, who lost an ugly 61-55 game against Rutgers on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans, who held a 31-23 lead early in the second half, lost all offensive rhythm, blowing a huge opportunity to win a conference game against a formidable opponent.

Michigan State and Rutgers were both horrific on offense in the first half, but the Spartans took a 25-19 lead into the break.

MSU started the second half with a strong showing, but it quickly went plunging downhill, and after a 9-0 Rutgers run to make a 40-37 MSU lead turn into a 46-40 lead, one they wouldn’t give up.

By the time the game was over, the Spartans finished with a woeful 34.5% field goal percentage on 20-for-58 shooting performance and a 4-of-21 (19%) 3-PT percentage.

Michigan State will look to bounce back at home against Maryland on Tuesday.

Michigan State basketball downs No. 23 Rutgers at home, 70-57

MSU knocked off No. 23 Rutgers at the Breslin Center on Thursday night, 70-57:

The Michigan State Spartans have broken out of a mini slump they found themselves inside, defeating the No. 23 ranked Rutgers Scarlet Knights at the Breslin Center, 70-57, on Thursday night.

MSU was led by freshman Jaxon Kohler, who contributed a double-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks on his way to a career night.

The game couldn’t have started any worse for Michigan State, allowing Rutgers to jump out to a quick 14-5 lead to open the game. It wouldn’t take long for the Spartans to right the ship. A quick 7-0 run for MSU out of a timeout put the Spartans right back into the game.

Michigan State would go on to outscore the Scarlet Knights 31-16 over the remaining 15 minutes of the first half to take a 36-30 lead into the break.

The first twelve minutes of the second half were back and forth between the two teams, cumulating into a 52-47 MSU lead, that is when the Spartans were able to take full control of the contest.

A Jaden Akins three jumpstarted a big run by Michigan State, propelling the lead to 67-51. The Spartans would close out the game from there.

AJ Hoggard added 16 points to go along with Kohler’s double-double. Joey Hauser, Tyson Walker and Akins all scored in double figures as well, giving the Spartans five players with double digits in the scoring column.

Michigan State will be back in action on the road, Sunday when they travel to Assembly Hall for a date with the Indiana Hoosiers.
