MSU basketball F Jaxon Kohler expected back vs. Northwestern or next week

It appears Michigan State basketball could be getting back forward Jaxon Kohler this week or next

It appears Michigan State basketball could be getting back forward Jaxon Kohler this week or next.

Spartans head coach Tom Izzo said Kohler practiced on Tuesday and is expected to return for his first game of the year either against Northwestern on Sunday or next week. Izzo listed Kohler as doubtful for the Spartans’ next game on Thursday against Penn State.

Kohler injured his foot in the preseason and has yet to play for the Spartans this year. His return should provide more depth to Michigan State in the post and should be a big addition moving forward.

Of note in the availability report, Jaxon Kohler is still out with his foot injury.

MSU PF Jaxon Kohler named 2023 Moneyball ProAm MVP

Michigan State power forward Jaxon Kohler has been named the Moneyball ProAm Most Valuable Player for the 2023 season

Michigan State power forward Jaxon Kohler has been named the Moneyball ProAm Most Valuable Player for the 2023 season.

Kohler received this impressive honor on Monday. He averaged 34.5 points per game during this year’s annual summer event.

Kohler averaged only 3 points per game during his freshman season this past year. But this stellar showing during the Moneyball ProAm event could be a sign of what’s to come during the 2023-24 season. That isn’t always the case, of course, but let’s hope it means we will see an even better Kohler for the Spartans this upcoming season.

Michigan State basketball F Jaxon Kohler drops 53 points in Moneyball Pro-Am

Michigan State basketball’s Jaxon Kohler drops 53 points in Moneyball Pro-Am

The Lansing State Journal reported this summer on the work Jaxon Kohler has put in inside the gym this offseason, and it looks to be paying off, as the Michigan State basketball forward dropped 53 points in the Moneyball Pro-Am on Tuesday night.

Kohler’s team, Snipback, beat ‘Team Faygo’ 113-103 and Kohler was named the player of the game. Kohler’s 53 points were the highest in the Pro-Am so far and he also added 18 rebounds as he shows off the new body he worked for in the offseason.

Team Snipback was led by Kohler and Tre Holloman, while Team Faygo was led by A.J. Hoggard and high-profile freshman Xavier Booker. Booker and Kohler will definitely be competing for minutes this year at both the power forward and center spots.

Michigan State basketball downs No. 23 Rutgers at home, 70-57

MSU knocked off No. 23 Rutgers at the Breslin Center on Thursday night, 70-57:

The Michigan State Spartans have broken out of a mini slump they found themselves inside, defeating the No. 23 ranked Rutgers Scarlet Knights at the Breslin Center, 70-57, on Thursday night.

MSU was led by freshman Jaxon Kohler, who contributed a double-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks on his way to a career night.

The game couldn’t have started any worse for Michigan State, allowing Rutgers to jump out to a quick 14-5 lead to open the game. It wouldn’t take long for the Spartans to right the ship. A quick 7-0 run for MSU out of a timeout put the Spartans right back into the game.

Michigan State would go on to outscore the Scarlet Knights 31-16 over the remaining 15 minutes of the first half to take a 36-30 lead into the break.

The first twelve minutes of the second half were back and forth between the two teams, cumulating into a 52-47 MSU lead, that is when the Spartans were able to take full control of the contest.

A Jaden Akins three jumpstarted a big run by Michigan State, propelling the lead to 67-51. The Spartans would close out the game from there.

AJ Hoggard added 16 points to go along with Kohler’s double-double. Joey Hauser, Tyson Walker and Akins all scored in double figures as well, giving the Spartans five players with double digits in the scoring column.

Michigan State will be back in action on the road, Sunday when they travel to Assembly Hall for a date with the Indiana Hoosiers.
