Michigan State has officially offered a scholarship to Sedrick Irvin Jr., son of MSU legend Sedrick Irvin.

[jwplayer hcUapEs3]

More seasoned Michigan State Football fans still look back fondly on the career of Sedrick Irvin, the Spartan who ran for over 1,000 yards three straight years for MSU from 1996-1998. Now, there is a chance that his extremely talented son could be next in line to don the green and white. On Wednesday, Sedrick Irvin Jr. announced that he has officially been offered by Michigan State.

Irvin Jr., like his father, is a running back, and is currently rated as a 4-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, and the No. 8 ranked rusher in that class by 247Sports. Irvin currently plays for Gulliver Prep in Florida.

The Spartans will face an uphill battle in their pursuit of Irvin’s commitment as he currently has offers out from major players like Georgia, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, and many more, but the connection with his father could give Michigan State an edge on his recruitment.

[jwplayer 7LCHev4s]

The NCAA Divison I Council Coordination Committee has extended the recruiting dead period in all sports through Sept. 30, per a press release from the NCAA. The previous end date was set for the end of this month on Aug. 31. The Council and Council Coordination Committee plan to review this new end date on a regular basis.

Here is a full quote from the NCAA’s press release:

Members also extended the temporary recruiting dead period for all sports through Sept. 30, 2020.

The dead period has been in place since March and is a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Council took feedback from coaching associations in making its decision, and most coaching groups recommended the extension through at least Sept. 30. The full Council will consider the dead period again in September.

No in-person recruiting or evaluations can occur in the dead period.

Michigan State Basketball 4-star recruiting target Jaden Akins announcing commitment Thursday

Major Michigan State recruiting target Jaden Akins will announce his commitment on Thursday at 3pm ET.

[jwplayer hzByg0t2]

Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Basketball coaching staff have already managed to land the commitment of the top shooting guard in the 2021 class in Max Christie, the No. 1 2021 player in the state of Michigan in Pierre Brooks, and it looks like they might also land the No. 2 player in the state this week. Michigan State has been recruiting 4-star point guard Jaden Akins for months, and he will announce his recruiting decision this Thursday at 3pm ET.

This week, the Spartans picked up a Crystal Ball prediction to land Akins’ commitment from 247Sports. If Izzo can land Akins, I think this would easily make the 2021 class the best of Izzo’s career, especially considering the fact that Emoni Bates might still join that class.

Michigan State Football offers 3-star OG Parker Brailsford

Michigan State has offered 3-star 2022 offensive guard Parker Brailsford out of Arizona.

[jwplayer s7XWZWNR]

Earlier this week, Michigan State Football and head coach Mel Tucker offered a top-50 offensive guard in the 2022 class in Scottsdale, Arizona’s Parker Brailsford. Brailsford announced the offer on social media on Monday.

Brailsford, who currently attends Saguaro High School, is 247Sports‘ No. 20 ranked player in the state of Arizona and their No. 42 ranked offensive guard for the 2022 class. For those wondering, Brailsford is 6’2″, so, while not a massive lineman as we’ve seen Tucker has a taste for recruiting, he is a big boy at 265 pounds.

The recruitment for Brailsford has only just started to pick up steam, with offers thus far only coming from USC, Northern Arizona, New Mexico and now Michigan State.

MSU Football offers Cole Martin, son of former Spartan Demetrice Martin

Michigan State has extended an offer to Cole Martin, whose father Demetrice played for Michigan State in the 90s.

[jwplayer hl7WagTb]

This particular bit of recruiting news has some interesting aspects, follow with me for a minute. On Wednesday, it was announced that Michigan State Football has offered 2023 recruiting prospect Cole Martin, a currently unranked multi-position athlete out of Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona. Martin is the son of Demetrice Martin, who was another multi-positional standout who played for the Spartans back in the 1990s.

Interestingly enough, Demetrice Martin just joined the staff at Colorado, joining Mel Tucker’s head coaching replacement with the Buffaloes, Karl Dorrell, as the cornerbacks coach. The Buffaloes are also recruiting Martin so this is an interesting recruiting battle to monitor, as the young prospect could have to choose between playing under his dad’s tutelage or joining his dad’s alma mater.

Top ’21 receiver in Michigan sets commitment date; Notre Dame a player

Andrel Anthony is a 6-2, 175 pound receiver from Lansing, Michigan and has included Notre Dame in his most recent top four schools, which he released exactly a month ago.Β Β

Notre Dame currently has one wide receiver commitment in their 2021 recruiting class, four-star Lorenzo Styles of Pickerington, Ohio.

They’ll know if a second receiver joins that class in just over a week as the top ranked receiver in Michigan has announced when his commitment will be announced.

Andrel Anthony is a 6-2, 175 pound receiver from Lansing, Michigan and has included Notre Dame in his most recent top four schools, which he released exactly a month ago.

Now Anthony is nearing his decision as he today announced that he’ll be making his announcement on what is usually the MLB trade deadline, July 31.

An announcement about a future announcement.Β  Does anything scream “college football” nearly as much?

As for the kind of player Anthony is and what Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State or Penn State will be getting – he’s a roughly top-100 receiver in the class who is said to be a great route-runner and possesses great ball tracking skills.

He could also use to add more than a couple pounds of muscle and a little more speed as well.

Stay tuned to Fighting Irish Wire as we’ll have all of the information in regards to Anthony’s decision next week!

MSU Football recruiting target, Detroit native Jamari Buddin commits to Penn State

Detroit native and major Michigan State recruiting target Jamari Buddin has committed to Penn State.

[jwplayer eG4DmfIS]

Well, this one hurts. Michigan State Football has had the full-court press on Jamari Buddin for months now, trying to do everything possible to recruit the 4-star Detroit-area standout, but it was all for naught. The Belleville High School linebacker announced today that he will be committing to Penn State in 2021, closing the chapter on the chances that he would stay in-state.

Penn State has had a lot of success recruiting in Detroit these past few years, and the Buddin story is just another example of why Michigan State needs a strong recruiter like Mel Tucker to come in and re-establish MSU as a top recruiter in Detroit. As of right now, Penn State and Michigan have really been the lead recruiters for top talent in Detroit and I would suspect that this a huge topic of conversation among the Michigan State staff.

Michigan State Football offers 4-star East Detroit WR Tayshawn Trent

MSU has sent a scholarship offer to 4-star East Detroit wide receiver Tayshawn Trent.

[jwplayer eG4DmfIS]

A big part of new Michigan State Football head coach Mel Tucker’s job will be to win the recruiting battle in Detroit, a city that produces a lot of talent that is heavily recruited by MSU, Michigan, Penn State, and more. It looks like the Spartans will enter competition to recruit a big name in the Detroit football scene as it was announced on Thursday that Michigan State has offered 2022 4-star wide receiver Tayshawn Trent out of East Detroit High School.

Trent already has offers out from Michigan and Penn State, two schools who frequently challenge the Spartans for recruits out of the Metro Detroit area. The 247Sports Composite Rankings have him ranked as the No. 7 best player in the state of Michigan and the No. 36 best wide receiver in the 2022 recruiting class. The 247Sports ranking has him ranked a little lower as a 3-star and the No. 13 best player in the state.

At 6’4″, he certainly fits the profile of a Mel Tucker recruiting target.

Michigan State Football offers 2021 3-star CB Steffan Johnson

MSU has offered 2021 3-star cornerback Steffan Johnson, a player who is currently committed to Rutgers.

Michigan State Football continues to chip away at their 2021 recruiting needs, and today it was announced that they have offered 2021 3-star cornerback Steffan Johnson from Venice, Florida. Johnson is currently committed to Rutgers.

According to Stephen Brooks of 247Sports, Johnson is a good friend and teammate of current MSU commit Charles Brantley.

Johnson is the No. 129 ranked cornerback in the 2021 recruiting class and the No. 195 ranked player in Florida by the 247Sports rankings. As mentioned, Johnson is currently committed to Rutgers, but his relationship with Brantley shouldn’t be discounted, and Spartan fans have already experienced the heartbreak of a decommit in Gabe ‘Spida’ Nealy and karma says that MSU is due to experience the other side of that equation soon.
