Watch MSU head coach Jonathan Smith preview this week’s matchup against Purdue

Michigan State football is in must-win territory if they want to avoid reaching the postseason for a third straight season.

The Spartans return home this week in a Friday night matchup against Purdue. Michigan State comes into this game on a three-game losing streak and in need of wins in each of its last two games to reach bowl eligibility. The Spartans are 4-6 overall and 2-5 in Big Ten play.

Purdue is having an even rougher go this year, with the Boilermakers sitting at 1-9 overall and 0-7 in Big Ten play. Purdue hasn’t won since the season opener against FCS foe Indiana State.

In preparation for this week’s matchup with the Boilermakers, Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith met with the local media to preview this game. Hear what he had to say in the video below.

Michigan State football kicker named Lou Groza Award semifinalist

Michigan State football kicker named Lou Groza Award semifinalist

Michigan State football officially has one of the best kickers in the entire country. On Tuesday, it was announced that Michigan State kicker Jonathan Kim has been named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award. The Lou Groza Award honors the top kicker in college football.

Jonathan Kim has been superb this season, hitting 18 of 20 field goals with his longest being a 55-yard bomb in his record-breaking night against Iowa.

Former Spartan gets start on Monday Night Football

The Dallas Cowboys are giving a former Spartan a start on MNF against the Texans

Michigan State football defensive back alumnus Josh Butler is making his first career start on Monday Night Football for the Dallas Cowboys.

Butler played for Michigan State from 2015-2019, before going undrafted in the NFL Draft. While taking an unconventional route to the NFL, Butler excelled when he played for the Michigan Panthers in the USFL this past season, earning him a shot with the Dallas Cowboys.

The shot for Butler just intensified, and the Cowboys will now give the former Spartan the chance to start on Monday Night Football against the Houston Texans.

MSU Football reportedly could end Ryan Walters’ tenure at Purdue

If Michigan State beats Purdue on Friday night, then it could be curtains for Boilermakers head coach Ryan Walters

If Michigan State takes care of business and beats Purdue on Friday night, then it could be curtains for Boilermakers head coach Ryan Walters.

College football insider Pete Nakos of On3 is reporting that Friday night’s matchup between Purdue and Michigan State is a “huge game” for Walters’ future. Walters is in his second season at Purdue and would be owed $9.5 million if he was let go after this season.

Purdue is 1-9 on the year and has lost nine straight games. The Boilermakers lone win came in the season-opener against FCS foe Indiana State.

Michigan State comes into this game as a near two-touchdown favorite over the Boilermakers. This is a massive game for the Spartans as well, with Michigan State needing to win both of its final two games to reach bowl eligibility.

Prediction and betting odds for MSU vs. Purdue in Week 13

Analyzing Friday’s Michigan State-Purdue game with odds and lines, predictions and best bets

For only the second time this year, Michigan State is listed as a favorite over an FBS opponent.

Michigan State football returns home on Friday night in a nationally televised matchup against Purdue. The Spartans enter this game as a sizable favorite, which is the first time they’ve been listed as a favorite since the season-opener against Florida Atlantic. There wasn’t an official line posted for the Spartans’ third game of the season against FCS foe Prairie View A&M, and Michigan State has otherwise been an underdog this year.

Michigan State comes into this game looking to snap a three-game losing streak and keep its bowl hopes alive. The Spartans are 4-6 overall and 2-5 in Big Ten play this year.

It has been a rough year for Purdue, who comes into this matchup with a 1-9 record and 0-7 mark in league play. The Boilermakers haven’t won since their season-opening victory over FCS foe Indiana State.

Michigan State vs. Purdue prediction, pick

The way Michigan State is playing makes it wild that they are a two-touchdown favorite over anyone. But that also shows how bad Purdue has been this year. While the Boilermakers have been brutal, I find it hard to pick Michigan State to win a game by two touchdowns right now. This one will surely be closer than it should be…

Prediction: Michigan State 23, Purdue 14

Watch Kenneth Walker score big time TD against 49ers

K9 logs a huge touchdown for Seattle against the 49ers:

The Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers are locked up in a big time NFC West matchup, jockeying for position in their divisional standings.

In a low scoring affair between the Hawks and Niners, every score matters, and Kenneth Walker adding a big time score for Seattle.

Late in the third quarter, a Walker touchdown run gave the Seahawks the narrow 13-10 lead, setting his team up to take care of business in the final quarter of play.

Top in-state target commits to Georgia, more options available to MSU football

Georgia has taken one of the top prospects out of Michigan in 2026, but options still remain for MSU:

One of the biggest and best prospects in the state of Michigan’s 2026 class is now off the board. Saline (MI) tight end Lincoln Keyes has made the decision to make his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs. Both Michigan State and rival Michigan will miss out on the top prospect.

For Michigan State, they will target 1-2 tight ends in the 2026 recruiting class, with multiple tight ends being the more likely scenario.

While Keyes is now off the board, there are still a plethora of targets for MSU to target in the state in 2026. Detroit Catholic Central’s Jack Janda will lead the list for the Spartans, who will go head to head with their rival Wolverines (who hold the crystal ball lead) for the local talent. Second on the list will be Lincoln Watkins of Port Huron Northern High School. He holds 15 power conference offers despite not holding an MSU offer, which should be coming soon. Other than the big two left on the list, prospects like Charlie Jilek (Portage Central), Ryan Rocheleau (Lake Orion) and Maximus Jansenvanvuren (Waterford Mott).
