Spartans LB Darius Snow withdraws from transfer portal, to return MSU

A fan favorite Spartan has decided to withdraw from the transfer portal and return to Michigan State.

Linebacker Darius Snow announced on Wednesday night that he’s decided to withdraw his name from the transfer portal and return to Michigan State for next season. Snow entered the transfer portal shortly after the season ended but after meeting with the new coaching staff has decided to return.

Snow came on strong as a sophomore and key contributor for the Spartans defense during the 2021 season when Michigan State reached the Peach Bowl. He was expected to be an important piece to the Spartans’ defense last year but a season-ending injury in the opening game derailed that and in 2023 he was still recovering from that injury — appearing in only four games.

The return of Snow is a positive for the new coaching staff since he is considered one of the leaders on the defense. If he can return to relative full strength next season, he’ll certainly be a key contributor again.

MSU LB Darius Snow out for year with injury, S Xavier Henderson will return when ‘he’s ready’

Michigan State football will be without one of its top defenders for the rest of the season

Michigan State football will be without one of its top defenders for the rest of the season.

Head coach Mel Tucker confirmed on Monday that starting linebacker Darius Snow is out for the rest of the year after experiencing what appeared to be a lower body or leg injury in Friday’s season-opening win over Western Michigan. Snow got hurt in the first half of that matchup and didn’t return to the game with the medical staff needing to assist him leave the field.

Another potential critical defensive injury was to starting safety and team captain Xavier Henderson. He also left Friday’s game with what appeared to be a leg injury as well, but Tucker said he expects Henderson to return this season.

Tucker didn’t reveal the severity of Henderson’s injury but stated he is “sore” and “he’ll be ready when he’s ready.” It’s great news for the Spartans that Henderson hasn’t be ruled out for the season but we won’t truly know when he’ll return until we see him back on the field.
