Jets vs. Bills: 3 key matchups to watch in Week 6

Jets vs. Bills: 3 key matchups to watch in Week 6

The New York Jets will face the Buffalo Bills in their upcoming Week 6 matchup.

Even with it being an AFC East clash, it will still be the games, within the game, that will make all the difference.

Here are three key matchups to watch during Monday’s Jets (2-3) against the Bills (3-2) matchup:

DE Micheal Clemons vs. OL Dion Dawkins

(USAT)

Let’s be honest, this is all about off the field.

In the past, Dawkins and Clemons have had flare ups during games. It has turned into a war of words at times.

Most recently, Dawkins had a laugh on social media about the Jets firing head coach Robert Saleh this week. These two might have some fireworks between them.

CB Sauce Gardner vs. WR Keon Coleman

(Imagn)

The Jets have an excellent secondary. The Bills do not have many weapons around quarterback Josh Allen and their top target, wide receiver Khalil Shakir (ankle), might not play.

Whether it’s Gardner or DJ Reed, they should feast on Coleman. Buffalo’s second-round rookie receiver has had a few moments in his career but not many. No big breakout games.

RB Breece Hall vs. LB Terrel Bernard

(Getty)

Like the Bills offense, the Jets struggled on that side of the ball last week as well. However, New York’s issues have been going on for most of the NFL season. The reason why is easy to see.

It will be a full-defensive effort to stop a rushing attack. But Bernard leads that unit. When New York can’t run the ball, quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been forced into mistakes because their game plan becomes predictable. That will play into the Bills’ hand as their secondary is very good, too.

Jets’ Will McDonald IV, Micheal Clemons do Jermaine Johnson’s sack celly vs. Patriots (video)

Jets’ Will McDonald IV, Micheal Clemons do Jermaine Johnson’s sack celly vs. Patriots (video):

Wholesome moment alert thanks to Will McDonald IV and Micheal Clemons.

The Jets are rolling early against the New England Patriots in their “Thursday Night Football” clash at MetLife Stadium. Both on offense and defense.

Speaking of the defense, it has a bad evening to be Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

While the offense is turning heads, Gang Green’s defense looks like they are back. The pass rush in particular looks good and McDonald and Clemons are a big reason why.

But they haven’t forgotten about their teammate Jermaine Johnson.

Johnson, likely done for the 2024 season due to an Achilles injury, is watching a very good effort. Knowing that, when McDonald and Clemons recorded sacks, they both did Johnson’s trademark sack celebration.

A lovely touch.

Their efforts have helped the Jets get off to a 14-3 lead on their AFC East rivals in the first half.

Report card: Jets fall 32-19 to the 49ers

Report card: #Jets fall 32-19 to the #49ers:

The New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers clashed in a Week 1 contest to begin the 2024 NFL season.

The Jets (0-1) ended up falling 32-19 to the Niners (0-1). It was a game that had a lot of hyped around it and Gang Green mostly fell short.

With that, here is Jets Wire’ position-by-position report card grades for Week 1:

Aaron Rodgers finished only 13-for-21 passing with a touchdown and an interception. The giveaway was a tipped ball so we can’t put all that on him. However, his debut 2.0 did not live up to the hype. Turning the free play into a score was the QB’s best moment.

Breece Hall did have a touchdown to cap a positive first drive. After that, he did not get involved enough at all. The offensive line let him down in a big way. Hall did grab five catches in the passing game.

The entire Jets’ tight end group felt invisible. According to Pro Football Focus metrics, Jeremy Ruckert was the top-marked player in this unit at a 60.9 overall grade solely for blocking.

It was a two-sided coin for the Jets offensive line. Rodgers had time to complete some passes but the group was so woeful running that ball that the imbalanced game plan made it difficult on the passing attack. PFF’s top marks in the trenches were handed to Alijah Vera-Tucker (67.5) and John Simpson (66.3).

It was an abysmal effort from the Jets’ defensive front. Two sacks of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy came via the secondary. Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams only had one quarterback hit while pass rusher Micheal Clemons had a third sack.

Most notably was the poor tackling and failure to close any gaps or set an edge in the ground game as 49ers’ back Jordan Mason ripped off 147 yards on the ground. Unfortunately, Haason Reddick was not acquired to fix the run defense either.

The linebacker round out the front seven and they had their miscues against the run as well. At least their efforts in the passing attack were positive. All-Pro tight end George Kittle has had much better days, he had four catches for 40 yards.

The secondary held up their end of the bargain against the pass for most of the evening despite a poor pass rush helping them. No touchdowns in the air for Purdy, and the defensive backfield did their part in attacking the QB since Tony Adams and Sauce Garder had sacks.

The lack of tackling very much was found in the secondary, bringing this grade down.

Not much out of the kickoff return department. Thomas Morstead had a booming 60-yard punt, at least.

Bills’ Dion Dawkins gives NSFW thoughts on Jets’ Micheal Clemons: ‘B—- boy’

NSFW Dion Dawkins interview…

Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Dion Dawkins gave some very candid, NSFW comments about New York Jets defensive lineman Micheal Clemons.

The two do have a history together as dust ups between the Bills and Jets involving them both have occured. On one occasion, Clemons was ejected from a game. In another, Dawkins and Clemons got into a shoving match in the tunnel of Highmark Stadium after the final whistle.

However, Dawkins really let people know how he felt speaking to Vlad TV.

Dawkins went on to explain how much he “hates” the Jets, and specifically on Clemons, Dawkins called him a “B—- boy,” and then some.

Dawkins and his very free speaking, two-minute interview clip can be found below:

One play Sunday against the Jets revealed something about Sam Cosmi

Sam Cosmi has been Washington’s best offensive player recently. Last week, one play really stood out.

There was one play Sunday against the Jets and revealed something about Sam Cosmi.

It is much easier to play hard when things are going well, your team is ahead in a game. A much tougher test is when you are trailing badly in a game, you are tempted to just go through the motions, hoping to get the game concluded and get out of there without an injury.

Sunday, the Jets were embarrassing the Commanders in the third quarter, leading 27-7. The Commanders had the ball at their own 29-yard line with under 9 minutes remaining in the quarter, having been given a first down when the Jets’ Brandon Echols was guilty of illegal contact and a five-yard penalty.

What transpired on first down really caught my attention. Quarterback Sam Howell, back from the center, took the snap out of the air, dropped back two steps, looked left, and immediately attempted a pass to Jamison Crowder. Crowder was running a quick slant from the left side to the left hash marks. Howell missed badly, the pass visibly behind Crowder.

Suddenly two players, a Commander and a Jet, went crashing to the turf. Both players also just as quickly hopped up off of the turf, energized. The Jet was defensive tackle Micheal Clemons (#72) out of Texas A&M. The Commander was right guard Sam Cosmi a former Texas Longhorn.

During the play, the two had been matched up against one another. On this particular play, regardless of the score, Cosmi got into Clemons and drove the 270-pounder off of the ball and into the turf on his back. Clemons was upset and hopped up toward Cosmi.

Cosmi, on the other hand, visibly enjoyed the play and had a hop to his step as well when he gleefully headed back to the huddle for the next play.

It was good to see Cosmi not simply settling for protecting Howell on the play. No, Cosmi wanted to accomplish more on the play, and he exerted more effort to bring about his dominance on the play.

Just a single play, down 27-7. Yes, but it also revealed something of the heart in Sam Cosmi to compete hard despite the score, finding another way to win on that play.

Cosmi has been outstanding recently.

Jets lineman Micheal Clemons had a hilarious (and very NSFW!) message for Browns fans during the game

Micheal Clemons didn’t have any love for Browns fans, clearly.

Saying the Jets and Browns Thursday Night Football game wasn’t the most competitive matchup we’ve ever seen might be putting it kindly.

The Browns hung 37 points up on New York. It wasn’t close. It was never competitive. At least not on the field, anyway.

But on the sideline? There was plenty of animosity going around. Especially coming from one Micheal Clemons.

The Jets defensive lineman had a very NSFW message for Browns fans sitting in the stands during the game. He pointed them out each one by one on the sideline to deliver the message, too. It was short and succinct. Simply two words.

“[Expletive] you.” Yes, seriously.

WARNING: There is some very NSFW language in this video.

This is hilarious, man. Tell them how you really feel, Clemons. Browns fans seemed to enjoy this from the stands — whoever was recording the video was chuckling the entire time.

Honestly, I can’t blame Clemons for this. If my team was getting destroyed the way the Jets were, I’d probably be upset about it, too.

In the end, they all got the last laugh. So I’m sure they’re satisfied with the results.

5 takeaways from Jets’ dreadful 34-13 loss to Dolphins

Here are 5 takeaways from the Jets’ lopsided 34-13 defeat to the Dolphins in Week 12.

The New York Jets are steadily falling to the wayside in the AFC playoff race following a devastating 34-13 defeat to the Miami Dolphins on Friday. With another loss on the schedule, the Jets have lost four consecutive games and own a 4-7 record.

Even with a quarterback change, it was more of the same from New York’s offense. The entire game was perfectly illustrated with the Jets recording an interception on defense then Tim Boyle immediately throwing a pick-six on a Hail Mary right before halftime.

For yet another embarrassing loss for the Jets, here are our five immediate takeaways from the team’s Week 12 matchup against the Dolphins.

Jets, Bills players involved in post-game skirmish in hallway

Jets, Bills players involved in post-game skirmish in hallway

Frustration started settling in during the Jets’ 32-6 loss to the Buffalo Bills Sunday. Those frustrations started carrying over as the teams headed to the locker room after the game.

As the teams were in the hallway following the game, players from both teams were involved in a skirmish. Jets defensive lineman Micheal Clemons and Bills defensive lineman Ed Oliver were among those involved along with Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins.

Clemons had to be calmed down on his way to the locker room. He eventually left the locker room as reporters began making their way over to ask him about the incident.

This was the cherry on top of an extremely embarrassing night for the Jets, who are now 4-6 and slowly watching their season fade away. New York has to quickly turn around. They host the Miami Dolphins on Friday so cooler heads have to prevail and soon.

Jets Week 6 inactives: Micheal Clemons out, Carl Lawson and Mecole Hardman back

The Jets announced their inactives for Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles. In a bit of a surprise, the Jets are not dressing defensive lineman Micheal Clemons Sunday. In his place, Carl Lawson is back in the lineup as is wide receiver Mecole Hardman, who recently said he just wants to play whether that’s with the Jets or someone else. We’ll see if he plays today.

It was already known that the Jets would be without three of their top cornerbacks in Sauce Gardner, D.J. Reed and Brandin Echols. Bryce Hall and Craig James will start for the Jets.

The other three inactives have been inactive all season and will continue to do so Sunday: WR Jason Brownlee, LB Zaire Barnes and RB Israel Abanikanda.

Micheal Clemons named to PFF’s All-Breakout team for 2023

Is Micheal Clemons set for a breakout year?

The 2022 draft class for the New York Jets is already off to a strong start thanks to two of their three first-round picks, CB Sauce Gardner and WR Garrett Wilson, winning Rookies of the Year, marking the first time players from the same team claimed both awards.

The Jets hope their 2022 rookie class continues to take steps forward in 2023. One of those players is being viewed by Pro Football Focus as a potential breakout candidate this season.

PFF’s Jim Wyman recently came up with an All-Breakout team for 2023, players that can become household names this season. Among the players on the team is New York’s fourth-round pick from last season, defensive end Micheal Clemons.

Here’s what Wyman wrote about Clemons:

As a rookie fourth-rounder in 2022, Clemons didn’t start a single game but was effective when he did appear on the field. While not a finished product as a pass-rusher, as his 58.6 pass-rush grade can attest to, Clemons was very stout as a run defender, putting up an 86.4 run-defense grade and an 81.5 tackling grade. If Clemons can add some more pass-rush moves to his repertoire, he could form a dangerous edge trio alongside Jermaine Johnson II and Carl Lawson.

Clemons recorded 2.5 sacks as a rookie while playing in all 16 games as a rookie. He and Johnson could be set for bigger roles this season, even with Lawson sticking around and the Jets drafting Will McDonald in the first round this past April.

The top of the Jets’ 2022 class is already fun to watch. Clemons is hoping to add even more fun throughout the class.
