Colts’ Carson Wentz working out with Michael Pittman Jr.

Despite trade rumors swirling, Colts QB Carson Wentz is getting some work in with his WRs.

Though much of the talk surrounding the Indianapolis Colts this offseason has been the future of quarterback Carson Wentz, it’s not stopping him from getting his work in.

The Colts won’t begin offseason workouts as a team until the middle of April, and it still isn’t clear if Wentz will be the quarterback when that time arrives. However, the 29-year-old posted pictures on Instagram getting some work in with Colts wide receivers Michael Pittman Jr. and Dezmon Patmon.

This was about the same time last offseason that Wentz got some work in with Pittman Jr. and a handful of Colts players following the big trade that sent him over from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Wentz has probably heard or read about all of the rumors swirling around pertaining to his potential trade but continues to get work in regardless.

With so much noise pointing to Wentz likely being traded, it still isn’t completely guaranteed he’s gone this offseason. Though the chances seem likely, the Colts will have to make a decision before March 18, which is when the bonuses are triggered in Wentz’s contract.

We still have about two more weeks before that deadline arrives so the news should be heating up in the meantime.

Studs and duds from Colts’ 31-25 loss to Ravens

Studs and duds from the Colts’ 31-25 loss to the Ravens.

The Indianapolis Colts (1-4) nearly pulled off a miraculous upset on the road against the Baltimore Ravens (4-1) on Monday night but a late, fourth-quarter collapse resulted in a 31-25 loss in overtime.

It was pure domination by the Colts for the first three quarters as they took a 25-9 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the game. From that point on, it was the Lamar Jackson show.

The prime-time loss was a mixed bag. There were bright spots in the loss. However, they will be overshadowed by the dud performances of the night.

Here are the studs and duds from the 31-25 loss in Week 5:

How WR Michael Pittman Jr. fits with the Colts

What does Michael Pittman Jr. bring to the Colts?

The Indianapolis Colts made their first selection of the 2020 NFL Draft and took wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. from USC.

Pittman Jr. offers a unique combination of size and speed and will fit in well into Frank Reich’s offense as a guy who can really go up and get it.

At 6-foot-4 and 223 pounds, Pittman Jr. will be a matchup problem for many corners across the league and will give newly-acquired Colts quarterback Philip Rivers a reliable target.

Rivers had a pair of reliable targets in LA with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. Both guys showed the ability to catch any ball thrown to them anywhere on the field and Pittman Jr. can be compared to both of those players. Another element he adds is a unique ability to catch balls in man coverage while his physicality and athleticism allow him to win downfield.

In fact, Pittman Jr. has the lowest drop percentage of any receiver in the draft at 2.7%. This will give the Colts a safety net as they try to rebrand their offense into a larger down-field threat. Pittman Jr. will add that element and more.

As far as the rest of the receiving corps, Pittman Jr. will fit in nicely with the speedy threats of T.Y. Hilton and Parris Campbell. Where the Colts love to utilize underneath routes, Pittman Jr. adds more routes to the playbook and can make plays happen after the catch. His versatility will be a nice addition to the room.

The coaching staff and Colts fans should be very excited about this selection, but nobody should be more excited than Rivers. He gets a dynamic receiver who can change an offense as the Colts are still building for the future in this draft.
