Miami at Florida State odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Miami at Florida State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami Hurricanes (5-4, 3-2 ACC) visit the Florida State Seminoles (3-6, 2-4) Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Miami vs. Florida State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Hurricanes have scored 28 or more points in six straight games, winning three in a row while going 3-1 ATS across the past four outings. While “The U” isn’t quite back, they’re definitely on an upward trajectory.

The Seminoles need to win out to avoid another missed postseason. It’s a rather tall order facing Miami on Senior Day before closing out the season with trips to Boston College and Florida. FSU has dropped two in a row, while going 2-6 ATS across the past eight games overall.

Miami at Florida State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Miami 31, Florida State 27

Money line

MIAMI (-135) is a decent play on the money line if you don’t want to bother with laying the small point spread. Really, the price isn’t terribly out of line.

Against the spread

MIAMI -2.5 (-112) has registered a 4-0 ATS mark across the past four games on the road. On the flip side, Florida State +2.5 (-108) is a dismal 2-6 ATS in the previous eight games overall, while going 9-23-2 ATS in the past 34 against teams with a winning mark. FSU is also just 1-5 ATS in the past six against the ACC.

The Hurricanes have posted a 6-1 ATS mark in the past seven trips to Tallahassee, Fla., with the road team also cashing in six of the past seven meetings.

Over/Under

The UNDER 61.5 (-115) is the lean. While it’s been all about the Over lately for Miami, going 4-0 in the past four overall, the Under is 18-8-2 in the past 28 road games for the Canes. The Under is 6-2 in the past eight for FSU against winning teams.

The Under is also 5-0 in the past five meetings in Tallahassee, while going 8-2 in the past 10 meetings in this series.

Miami at Pittsburgh odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Miami Hurricanes at Pittsburgh Panthers odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami Hurricanes (3-4, 1-2 ACC) and No. 19 Pittsburgh Panthers (6-1, 3-0) meet Saturday for a noon ET kickoff at Heinz Field. Below, we look at the Miami vs. Pittsburgh odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Miami has had its last three games decided by a combined six points. The Hurricanes went 1-2 in those games, including a 31-30 victory over then-No. 18 North Carolina State Oct. 23. The ‘Canes defeated the Panthers 31-19 last year and have won three straight and five of the last six in the series.

The Panthers are coming off four straight wins, including a 27-17 home win over Clemson Oct. 23. Pitt outgained the Tigers 464 yards to 315, and finished a combined 10-for-20 in converting third and fourth downs. Pitt’s offense ranks sixth in the nation with a total yards-per-game average of 523.6.

Miami at Pittsburgh odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Pittsburgh 31, Miami 24

Money line

PASS.

Miami has looked like an improving team of late in many respects. That notion hasn’t revealed itself in the win column and not in this week’s key pass-defense category either. Miami’s 245.0 passing yards allowed average ranks 93rd in the nation. It now faces QB Kenny Pickett and a Pitt aerial assault that ranks seventh nationally, piling up 350.0 yards per contest.

But Miami’s troubles against the pass are a bit front-loaded with a bad game against top-flight Alabama in Week 1 and a shaky Week 3 effort against Michigan State. In games since, the Hurricanes have faced top ACC quarterbacks like Virginia’s Brennan Armstrong and North Carolina’s Sam Howell. The pass-defense analytics have improved across the board.

That’s not to say Miami is elite or even above-average in stopping the pass. But the ‘Canes – with improving offensive performances of late also – are worth a long look at this price on the money line.

PASS on the current +290 tag, but Miami would make for an attractive plus-money play if it climbs to +315.

Against the spread

Some parts of the market had the Miami side getting +10.5 or better at the start of the week. Some of the air is out of the balloon at +9.5, but the visitors are perhaps worth a partial-unit play. BACK MIAMI +9.5 (-112).

Over/Under

This O/U line was in the mid-40s the last three meetings (2018-20) with the Under cashing twice. The Hurricanes being undervalued and a rainy forecast make for the Under being the likable wager here.

TAKE UNDER 61.5 (-110).

NC State at Miami odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s NC State Wolfpack at Miami Hurricanes odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 18 NC State Wolfpack (5-1, 2-0 ACC) and Miami Hurricanes (2-4, 0-2) meet for a Saturday night ACC crossover contest. Kickoff at Hard Rock Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the NC State vs. Miami odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

North Carolina State is coming off a 33-7 win at four-win Boston College, and the Wolfpack enter on a four-game win streak. NC State held the Eagles to just one first-quarter score and overall allowed only 291 total yards. A 12th-ranked total defense for the Wolfpack (292.7 yards per game) has held foes under 320 yards five times in six games.

The Hurricanes have lost their last two games by a combined margin of five points. Miami has its ground game cranked up, having rushed for 216.0 yards per game over its last three. But the UM defense has coughed up 30.0 points per game this season (93rd FBS).

NC State at Miami odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Friday at 9:17 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: NC State -175 (bet $175 to win $100) | Miami +140 (bet $100 to win $140)
  • Against the spread (ATS): NC State -3.5 (-103) | Miami +3.5 (-117)

NC State at Miami odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Miami 28, NC State 24

Money line

Miami was undone by a turnover minus-2 and some opponent short-field scores in last Saturday’s 45-42 loss to North Carolina. For the season, UM is a minus-5 in turnovers. On defense, the ‘Canes rank 112th in the nation in third-down defense. That has been a bad combination and for a program that has yielded 33.7 points per game over its last six league contests.

One of those six games was against NC State, which defeated Miami 44-41 last November. But the Hurricanes outgained the Wolfpack 610 to 420 yards in that game.

Peg this game as also being a field-goal contest, but one that could swing either way. TAKE MIAMI (+140).

Against the spread

NC State is 1-6 ATS in its last seven games as a road favorite. The ‘Pack are just 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a straight-up win of more-than-20 points.

Consider a MIAMI +3.5 (-117) play in concert with the above, especially if the price should drop to the -115 range.

Over/Under

Lots of crisscrossing strengths and weaknesses are mixed in with factors muddying the pace we’ll likely see in this one. PASS.

Miami at North Carolina odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Miami Hurricanes and North Carolina Tar Heels odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami Hurricanes (2-3, 0-1 ACC) travel to meet the North Carolina Tar Heels (3-3, 2-3) Saturday at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Miami vs. North Carolina odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Hurricanes were expected to challenge for the Coastal Division title, but they find themselves under .500 and battling simply for bowl eligibility at this point. Miami has covered just one of its five games, while hitting the Under four times.

The Tar Heels have been equally disappointing. UNC was picked by some as a dark horse playoff contender entering the season, but a 17-10 loss in the opener at Virginia Tech quickly ended that notion. Losses to Georgia Tech and Florida State have the Heels reeling.

Miami at North Carolina odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday at 4:50 p.m. ET.

Miami at North Carolina odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

North Carolina 31, Miami 29

Money line

North Carolina (-270) will cost you nearly three times your potential return. That’s extremely risky behavior betting on a team which was just dusted by a terrible Florida State squad on this very same field just last week.

AVOID and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

MIAMI +7.5 (-117) is an attractive play catching seven and a hook. North Carolina has been a difficult team to figure lately. UNC was trampled by subpar Georgia Tech and Florida State teams as a double-digit favorite in both contests. The last time the Tar Heels were a 7.5-point favorite, they blasted a good Virginia team 59-39.

The Hurricanes haven’t been very good either. They barely beat Appalachian State Sept. 11, and their only other win is against FCS Central Connecticut. This is the disappointment bowl where one team will suffer its fourth loss in 2021.

Over/Under

UNDER 63.5 (-112) is the slight lean here.

The Under has cashed in back-to-back outings for UNC, while the Under is 4-1 for Miami this season. The Under is also 18-6-2 in the past 26 road outings for the Hurricanes, while the Under is 4-0 in the previous four at home for the Heels against a team with a losing road mark.

Virginia at Miami odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Virginia Cavaliers at Miami Hurricanes odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

It’s a Thursday night matchup at 7:30 p.m. ET between the Virginia Cavaliers (2-2, 0-2 ACC) and Miami Hurricanes (2-2, 0-0) at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Fla. Below, we look at the Virginia vs. Miami odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Virginia enters this game with one of the top passing offenses in the country—QB Brennan Armstrong leads the nation with 426.3 passing yards per game—but the rest of this Cavaliers team is lacking. The rushing attack is averaging just 115.5 yards per game (T-109 nationally) while the defense is coughing up 6.9 yards per play (118th).

Miami star QB D’Eriq King is questionable for this matchup, and while his backups combined to throw for 417 yards and 5 touchdowns last week, that was against FCS Central Connecticut State. Both the Hurricanes’ offense (4.7 yards per play) and defense (5.2) rank outside the top 80 through three games against FBS teams.

Virginia at Miami odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Virginia 31, Miami 28

Money line

When we throw away Miami’s FCS win last week, there just isn’t much to get excited about. There’s no shame in losing to No. 1 Alabama as they did in Week 1, but the Hurricanes barely beat Appalachian State 25-23 and looked overmatched against Michigan State in a 38-17 loss in Week 3.

There’s plenty of value in taking VIRGINA (+170) on the money line.

Against the spread

Neither team has fared well against the spread this year. Miami is 0-3 against FBS teams while Virginia is 0-2 against the number in the ACC. The difference here, other than King’s injury status, is Virginia’s top strength (its passing game) going up against Miami’s 92nd-ranked pass defense.

Look for VIRGINIA +4.5 (-107) to put up points and cover.

Stream college football games on ESPN+ by signing up here.

Over/Under

This is a lofty line that certainly accounts for the Cavaliers’ passing attack and bad defense. Miami hit the Under in each of its three FBS games, while Virginia went Over just once in its first four games thanks to a superb performance by UNC QB Sam Howell in Week 3.

The uncertainty of King paired with a high number has us leaning toward the UNDER 62.5 (-110).

Central Connecticut at Miami odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Central Connecticut at Miami odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Central Connecticut Blue Devils (1-2) and Miami Hurricanes (1-2) meet Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Central Connecticut vs. Miami odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Central Connecticut has struggled so far, falling to Southern Connecticut State and Southeast Louisiana, while barely scraping by a poor Wagner side. This is the Blue Devils’ only matchup against an FBS team this season.

Miami was drummed by Alabama in the opener, it narrowly escaped at home against Appalachian State, and then was pounded by Michigan State last weekend. The Hurricanes are 0-3 ATS with the Under hitting in each outing.

Central Connecticut at Miami odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Miami 65, Central Connecticut 10

Money line

There was no money line at the time of this publishing, but it wouldn’t be worth pursuing anyway.

Against the spread

MIAMI -51.5 (-112) is the play against this undermanned FCS foe, even though the Hurricanes haven’t really given bettors much reason to like them so far.

The U should be able to break out the turnover chain quite frequently on the defensive side. It won’t make the fans feel much better about the season, but bettors will certainly like the results.

Stream college football games on ESPN+ by signing up here.

Over/Under

OVER 59.5 (-110) is the best play on the board here, and Miami might be able to take care of the total on its own. Miami has had trouble offensively, but it will get it done against a Central Connecticut team that has struggled mightily at the FCS level.

Appalachian State at Miami odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Appalachian State at Miami odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers (1-0) and Miami Hurricanes (0-1) meet Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Appalachian State at Miami odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Mountaineers picked up a 33-19 win over East Carolina in a neutral-site game in Charlotte, North Carolina Sept. 2. App State had a 33-9 lead early in the fourth quarter before taking the foot off the gas. The Mountaineers were good for 226 yards on the ground, and 259 yards through the air.

The Hurricanes, No. 24 in the AFCA Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports, were worked over by Alabama last week in Atlanta. The U is definitely not back after a 44-13 whitewashing, coming nowhere near a cover as 19.5-point underdogs.

Appalachian State at Miami odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Saturday at 1:35 a.m. ET.

  • Against the spread (ATS): Appalachian State +8.5 (-112) | Miami -8.5 (-108)

Appalachian State at Miami odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Miami 34, Appalachian State 27

Money line

A play on Miami (-320) will cost you three times your potential return, and that’s way too risky based upon its performance last week. They looked dead in the water early, but it was also against Alabama.

AVOID.

Against the spread

APPALACHIAN STATE +8.5 (-112) has a tremendous rushing attack, and they’ll put Miami -8.5 (-108) to the test. I think the Hurricanes end up earning a hard-fought victory, but this won’t be easy.

The Mountaineers boasted two 100-yard tailbacks last week, as RB Nate Noel led the way with 126 yards, while veteran RB Camerun Peeples also hit triple digits with 100 yards and two scores.

Stream college football games on ESPN+ by signing up here.

Over/Under

OVER 54.5 (-110) is the play, as we have two talented teams taking the field in South Florida.

We touched on App State’s rushing attack, but don’t discount Miami’s offense after their blowout loss. I think Miami QB D’Eriq King, who made it through his first game back after a gruesome injury, should show out and put up some nice numbers after being snowed under last week early.

This game has the potential to be a shootout and an unexpected good game.

Alabama vs. Miami odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Alabama Crimson Tide at Miami Hurricanes odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Alabama Crimson Tide and Miami Hurricanes will meet Saturday in the season opener in a neutral-site game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Alabama vs. Miami odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Crimson Tide are once again among the favorites to win the national championship this season, but they have plenty of big holes to fill. Bama had six players selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, including the new quarterback for the New England Patriots, Mac Jones.

The Hurricanes have their quarterback returning, as D’Eriq King is considered a Heisman hopeful. However, he is making his way back from a torn ACL, so it remains to be seen how effective he’ll be early on. The defense was terrible in 2020, however, allowing 174.5 yards per game on the ground, and “The U” must replace two effective pass rushers, too.

Alabama vs. Miami odds, spread and lines

Alabama vs. Miami odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 41, Miami 20

Money line

Alabama (-1000) will cost you 10 times your potential return, and that’s risky business with the number of big-time players they must replace. However, they should still win, but there is just too much risk to play them straight up.

AVOID.

Against the spread

ALABAMA -19.5 (-112) might get off to a slow start as QB Bryce Young takes the reins of the offense. The Tide must also replace Heisman Trophy winner WR DeVonta Smith, but usually they just restock the cupboard. There isn’t a lot of concern, and they enter as the No. 1 team in The Associated Press Top 25 rankings.

Miami +19.5 (-108) was a respectable 8-2 SU/6-4 ATS during the regular season, but they were pounded by Clemson and North Carolina – their only two marquee opponents. They lost those two games by 25 and 36. Until “The U” shows signs of being back, keep fading them against elite opponents.

Over/Under

Play UNDER 61.5 (-110), but play it very, very lightly. Alabama might get off to a little bit of a sluggish start as they have plenty of new parts at the skill positions. It won’t take them long to get going, but Miami’s defense could confuse the Tide early on before Bama finds its sea legs.

Virginia is in second place in the ACC standings, just percentage points behind Florida State (14-4, 10-3). Miami is in last.

Miami at Virginia: Three things to know

  1. Miami is on a 5-game skid, most recently losing 66-58 at Clemson Saturday. Despite the defeat, the Hurricanes covered the spread as 13-point underdogs and snapped an 0-3 ATS slide. Sophomore G Isaiah Wong is Miami’s leading scorer with 17.8 points per game.
  2. Virginia, which had the weekend off, enters on a 3-game slide. The Cavaliers last played Wednesday, falling 68-61 to NC State as 11-point home favorites. Senior F Sam Hauser leads the Cavs with 15.3 PPG, while senior F Jay Huff adds 13.6 PPG and a team-high 7.0 rebounds per game.
  3. This is the only regular-season meeting between the rivals.  Virginia has won the last three in the series, including a 46-44 victory in the lone matchup last season. The Cavs came up a “hook” short as 2.5-point road favorites. With the game tied in the final seconds, a miscommunication on Miami’s part led to a foul and Virginia junior G Kihei Clark sinking two free throws with 8 seconds left.

Miami at Virginia: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Virginia 75, Miami 56

Money line (ML)

PASS. Facing Miami is just what the doctor ordered for Virginia. The Cavaliers will end their 3-game skid, but there’s no way I will suggest betting a -2000 money line.

Against the spread (ATS)

Back VIRGINIA -14.5 (-110). The Cavaliers, who had won 15 in a row at home before the NC State loss, will take out their frustrations on the short-handed Hurricanes.

The ‘Canes – 1-9 straight-up and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games – have only six scholarship players available due to several season-ending injuries.

ATS: Miami 10-12 | Virginia 10-10-1

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 123.5 (-110) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. If the Cavaliers are going to cover the 14.5-point spread, this has to go Over as long as the Hurricanes score at least 55 points.

On paper, it seems risky. Virginia’s defense allows just 60.6 PPG to rank seventh in the country. Miami has averaged 59.3 PPG in its last seven road games, never scoring more than 64 points.

With the projection for an early blowout, there should be enough second-half garbage points to hit the Over.

O/U records: Miami 10-12 | Virginia 12-9

  • Money line: Miami +280 (bet $100 to win $280) | Notre Dame -360 (bet $360 to win $100)

Miami at Notre Dame: Three things to know

  1. The Hurricanes head into this one with just one win in their past six games, including a 73-59 home loss to the Irish Jan. 24 as 3-point favorites. Miami’s only win during the six-game span is a 77-75 win against Duke as 11-point underdogs. The Hurricanes also lost in overtime by an 80-76 score against Virginia Tech last Saturday.
  2. Notre Dame’s last win was also against Duke, posting a 93-89 victory over the Blue Devils as 7.5-point underdogs. The Irish have won five of their past seven games, going 6-1 ATS during the span.
  3. The Hurricanes are 0-4 ATS in their past four road games while going 1-4 ATS in their previous five against teams with a losing overall mark. The Irish have cashed in four straight games, but they’ve gone 2-5 ATS in their past seven home games.

Miami at Notre Dame: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Notre Dame 74, Miami 65

Money line (ML)

Notre Dame (-360) will cost you more than three and a half times your potential return, and while the Irish have been playing much better basketball, it’s still a bad bet.

AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread (ATS)

NOTRE DAME -7.5 (-110) is worth a small-unit bet laying nearly four buckets against Miami. That’s a little much considering the Irish are a sub-.500 team, but they have shown signs of life lately.

Notre Dame covered in six of its past seven games and stomped Miami in their first meeting this season. Roll with the Irish on their home floor against the Canes.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 140.5 (-110) is the lean, although go really, really small. The Under hit in four of the past six for Notre Dame, although the teams combined for 182 total points last time out against Duke.

The total numbers are identical for Miami, cashing the Under in four of the past six, including the first meeting between these teams in Miami Jan. 24.
