Miami Dolphins at Los Angeles Chargers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Miami Dolphins at Los Angeles Chargers odds and lines, with expert NFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami Dolphins will travel across the country to face the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday in Week 1 at SoFi Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Dolphins vs. Chargers odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Dolphins are entering their 2nd year under coach Mike McDaniel following a 9-8 finish in 2022 that ended with a loss in the Wild Card round to the Buffalo Bills. Miami is hoping QB Tua Tagovailoa can remain healthy this season after dealing with multiple concussions a season ago.

Expectations are fairly high for the Chargers after registering a 10-7 record last season. After blowing a 27-0 lead in the Wild Card round versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles now has Kellen Moore calling plays on offense, leading many to believe QB Justin Herbert is poised for a stellar season in 2023.

Dolphins at Chargers picks and predictions

Prediction

Chargers 34, Dolphins 28

Moneyline

With Herbert and Los Angeles expected to take a step forward this season, I’ll back the CHARGERS (-160) at home in Week 1. The Chargers were a solid 5-3 at home in 2022 compared to the Dolphins producing a 3-7 road record.

Also, CB Jalen Ramsey will miss a decent portion of the season for the Dolphins, which is a major blow to their secondary.

Against the spread

CHARGERS -3 (-110) is the play in this much-anticipated matchup between 2 quarterbacks taken back-to-back in the 1st round of the 2020 NFL draft. The Chargers are the healthier team right now, and Herbert should pick apart a hobbled secondary of the Dolphins.

Over/Under

OVER 51 (-110) is how I’d bet on the total in this exciting season opener as Herbert is expected to be unleashed in an offense that is tailored to his strengths, which includes pushing the ball down the field more. On the other side, the Dolphins were a much more dynamic offense when Tagovailoa was healthy in 2022.

Miami Dolphins at Jacksonville Jaguars odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Miami Dolphins at Jacksonville Jaguars odds and lines, with expert NFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami Dolphins (1-1) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2-0) meet Saturday to cap off their preseasons. Kickoff from EverBank Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Dolphins vs. Jaguars odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

Miami beat the Houston Texans 28-3 in Week 2 with QB Tua Tagovailoa and most of the Dolphins’ starting offense playing the 1st 2 drives of the game. Tagovailoa was intercepted on his 1st play, but led a 93-yard TD drive when he got back onto the field.

Coach Mike McDaniel has not said how much the starters will play vs. Jacksonville, but with the Dolphins’ plethora of injuries don’t expect to see the starters more than a quarter, if that.

Jacksonville cruised to a 25-7 win over the Detroit Lions last week as the starters played 3 series. QB Trevor Lawrence did throw an INT, but finished 5-for-6 for 36 yards, a TD and a 2-point conversion.

Coach Doug Peterson said fans should expect to see the starters play significant time, even up to the entire 1st half.

Dolphins at Jaguars picks and predictions

Prediction

Jaguars 28, Dolphins 24

Moneyline

PASS.

I like the Jaguars to win but at (-275) the line is not worth the juice. Bet on the spread and/or Over/Under.

Against the spread

LEAN DOLPHINS +6.5 (-110).

The Dolphins did suffer a pretty bad loss vs. Atlanta in their 1st preseason game (19-3), but I don’t see that happening again here. Miami’s starters will  keep this one close, and from there it’s up to the backups. Miami’s backups have played pretty solid football thus far, especially on defense. Look for Miami’s backups on defense to give the Jags’ backups some problems come the 2nd half to keep this game within a TD.

Over/Under

BET OVER 41 (-110).

The Jaguars have scored 25 and 28 points in their 2 preseason games, including when the starters didn’t even touch the field. I expect the starters to put up at least 21 if they do play the entire 1st half. While I do not expect Miami’s starters to play as long as Jacksonville’s, I do expect them to play the 1st quarter. Both of these offenses have firepowers and I expect this game to hit on the over easily.

Miami Dolphins at Houston Texans odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Miami Dolphins at Houston Texans odds and lines, with expert NFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Houston Texans (1-0) welcome the Miami Dolphins (0-1) to NRG Stadium Saturday. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET (NFL Network). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Dolphins vs. Texans odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Texans beat the New England Patriots 20-9 on Aug. 10. No. 2 overall pick QB CJ Stroud played 1 series and went 2-of-4 for 13 yards and an INT. QBs Case Keenum (79 passing yards, 1 TD) and Davis Mills (99 yards, 1 TD) will again get most of the workload. Rookie WR Nathaniel Dell had 5 receptions for 65 yards and a TD.

The Dolphins lost to the Falcons 19-3 on Aug. 11 and failed to cover as a 2.5-point underdog. Miami was led by QB Mike White and Skylar Thompson, who combined for 3 INTs. RB Myles Gaskin had 7 carries for 57 yards. Given starting QB Tua Tagovailoa‘s injury history, it is likely White and Thompson again see the vast majority of snaps.

  • Against the spread (ATS): Dolphins +2.5 (-110) | Texans -2.5 (-110)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Dolphins at Texans picks and predictions

Prediction

Texans 20, Dolphins 17

Moneyline

PASS.

The Texans have more competence at quarterback, and that should aid it at home against the Dolphins, which may only play backups under center. Houston will have Stroud and former 3rd-round pick Mills to choose from. The Texans should win this game, but at (-145), I’d rather play the spread here.

Against the spread

BET TEXANS -2.5 (-110).

Preseason often shows glaring flaws in depth. While Houston isn’t supposed to be great this season, it has some of the best rookies in the league, and Dell plus Stroud and top-5 pick DE Will Anderson Jr. should have an impact unlike many of the backups for Miami.

Even if Stroud does not play, Mills started 15 games for Houston last season and 11 the year prior. He might not be the future of the franchise, but he is competent and should lead successful drives, which the Dolphins’ backups proved they couldn’t do in Week 1.

Take TEXANS -2.5 (-110).

FOOTBALL NEVER STOPS
Live games, analysis and more 7 days a week: Get ESPN+

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 39.5 (-110).

The Texans’ defense looked good against New England, allowing just 9 points. The Dolphins offense may not have much more competence with WR Tyreek Hill and WR Jaylen Waddle likely seeing limited snaps.

Miami scored 3 points in its opener and allowed 19, both of which are positives for the Under. It had 4 turnovers and allowed 5 sacks. The backups on the Dolphins line didn’t hold up, and they may not again Saturday.

Expect drives to stall. Take UNDER 39.5 (-110).

Atlanta Falcons at Miami Dolphins odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Atlanta Falcons at Miami Dolphins odds and lines, with expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Atlanta Falcons will travel to face the Miami Dolphins on Friday to kickstart their 2023 preseason schedule at Hard Rock Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Falcons vs. Dolphins odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Falcons registered a 7-10 record in 2022, which was only 1 game behind the division-winning Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There is more excitement surrounding Atlanta in 2023 with QB Desmond Ridder getting the nod under center and the arrival of rookie RB Bijan Robinson.

The Dolphins seemed poised for a postseason berth in 2022 before QB Tua Tagovailoa dealt with various injuries. In Mike McDaniel’s second year as head coach, Miami could push for contention this season despite All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey missing time due to undergoing knee surgery recently.

Neither team is expected to play starters for an extended period of time in Friday’s exhibition contest.

Falcons at Dolphins picks and predictions

Prediction

Dolphins 24, Falcons 20

Moneyline

While the Falcons have Robinson making his preseason debut, I’ll take the DOLPHINS (+115) at home Friday. Arthur Smith and McDaniel both went 2-1 in the preseason in 2022, though, the depth that Miami now has makes me lean toward the home squad.

Against the spread

DOLPHINS +2.5 (-110) is the pick here as QB Mike White should get decent run as the backup for Miami. The Dolphins’ lone preseason loss last year was a 2-point defeat to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

OVER 36 (-110) is how I’d bet on the total with Ridder potentially getting the start in his first full season as the starter. The Dolphins will likely rest the majority of their starters, but McDaniel is capable of dialing up points with his backups.

The Falcons posted 27 or more points in 2 of their 3 preseason matchups in 2022. Meanwhile, the Dolphins scored 26 or more points in 2 of their 3 preseason contests a year ago, including 48 points on the Philadelphia Eagles in the preseason finale.

New York Jets at Miami Dolphins odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s New York Jets at Miami Dolphins odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Jets (7-9) square off against the Miami Dolphins (8-8) on Sunday in Week 18. Kickoff from Hard Rock Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Jets vs. Dolphins odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Jets suffered a 23-6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17 as they failed to cover as 1-point favorites on the road. New York has lost its last 5 games and was eliminated from playoff contention after losing to Seattle.

The Dolphins lost 23-21 to the New England Patriots in Week 17 but covered as 3-point road underdogs. Miami has also lost its last 5 games, but with a win on Sunday and a loss by the New England Patriots, the Dolphins would advance to the playoffs.

Jets at Dolphins picks and predictions

Prediction

Dolphins 20, Jets 16

Moneyline

The DOLPHINS (-170) seem to be the ideal choice in this game. However, there is a ton of uncertainty surrounding the quarterback position for the Fins, so proceed with caution when wagering on this game.

Against the spread

DOLPHINS -3 (-120) is where I’m leaning as Miami needs a win on Sunday to have a chance to advance to the postseason. Even with the Dolphins starting either Bridgewater or QB Skylar Thompson, they should be able to cover the spread at home.

The Dolphins are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against an opponent in the AFC East. Meanwhile, the Jets are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 road meetings against the Dolphins and 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 meetings overall.

Over/Under

Given the uncertainty at the quarterback spot for both teams, UNDER 37 (-110) is an intriguing wager. I expect both teams to try to maintain possession in this game by running the ball more often than usual.

The Jets are 6-0 to the Under in their last 6 games against an AFC opponent and 4-0 to the Under in their last 4 games overall. The Dolphins are also 6-1 to the Under in their last 7 home games.

Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami Dolphins (8-7) and New England Patriots (7-8) are both fighting for their playoff lives this week as they square off at Gillette Stadium in Week 17. Kickoff on Sunday will be at 1 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Dolphins vs. Patriots odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Dolphins are stumbling into the final weeks of the season, losing each of their last 4 games after starting the year 8-3. The playoffs are still within reach, however. If the Dolphins win their last 2 games, they’ll clinch a playoff berth, which is the simplest scenario for this team entering Week 17. The offense has been inconsistent at best, scoring between 17 and 29 points during their 4-game losing streak; Miami ranks 9th in total points (365) this season.

The Patriots are in even worse shape than the Dolphins, sitting at 7-8, but they can also get into the playoffs by simply winning their final 2 games of the season. They’ve dropped 4 of their last 5 games, with their only win during that stretch coming against the Arizona Cardinals. Three of their last 4 losses have come by 7 points or fewer, so they’ve kept things close.

Dolphins at Patriots picks and predictions

Prediction

Patriots 20, Dolphins 16

Moneyline

Tagovailoa’s absence from this game makes it even tougher to pick because the Dolphins will instead have QB Teddy Bridgewater under center. Even though he’s an experienced player who’s started 64 games in his career, he threw 3 INTs in 2 games this season, both of which were losses by Miami.

As unimpressive as the Patriots’ offense has been this year, this is the type of game Bill Belichick wins with solid coaching. I’ll take the PATRIOTS (-145) to win outright at home against their division rivals.

Against the spread

The Patriots likely wouldn’t be favored if Tagovailoa were playing in this one, but with Tua out, New England looks like the better team, especially at home in December.

The Patriots are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against the Dolphins at home, which is a trend I think continues this week. Bet the PATRIOTS -2.5 (-110) to cover at Gillette.

Over/Under

These are inconsistent offenses led by underwhelming quarterbacks. The Patriots defense is one of the best in the league, however, and should give Bridgewater a lot of trouble if the coverage can hold up despite some starters likely missing from the secondary.

While the Dolphins’ defense has allowed the 6th-most points in the league, QB Mac Jones is having a rough year and won’t lead many touchdown drives. Bet the UNDER 41 (-112).

The Packers defeated the Los Angeles Rams 24-12 in Week 15 to cover as 8-point favorites at home. Green Bay has now won 2 games in a row and remains in the NFC playoff picture.

The Dolphins lost 32-29 to the Buffalo Bills in Week 15 despite covering as 7-point underdogs on the road. Miami has lost 3 straight games, but they remain firmly in the playoff picture in the AFC despite the recent struggles.

Packers at Dolphins picks and predictions

Prediction

Dolphins 31, Packers 21

Moneyline

Just go ahead and PASS on the moneyline in this game with the Dolphins being solid favorites at home. Taking Miami to win at home isn’t worth doing considering the odds for the Dolphins to secure the win.

Against the spread

DOLPHINS -3.5 (-108) is where I’m going in this game as I still don’t believe the Packers are necessarily a good team. Green Bay is on a 2-game winning streak, but those 2 wins came against an extremely shorthanded Los Angeles Rams team and a struggling Chicago Bears squad.

The Dolphins are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 home games against a team with a losing road record.

Over/Under

Even though the Dolphins have struggled to score in recent weeks, OVER 49.5 (-111) is where I’m leaning in this game. Miami should have more success against a Green Bay defense that has been inconsistent throughout the season. This game is one of the few not affected by ugly weather in Week 16.

The Packers have hit the Over in 4 of their last 5 games overall. The Dolphins have hit the Over in 5 of their last 7 games overall.

Analyzing Sunday’s Miami Dolphins at Los Angeles Chargers odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami Dolphins (8-4) face the Los Angeles Chargers (6-6) on Sunday Night Football in Week 14. Kickoff from SoFi Stadium is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Dolphins vs. Chargers odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Dolphins lost 33-17 to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13 as they fell short of covering as 4.5-point road underdogs. Miami had won 5 straight games before the blowout loss.

The Chargers suffered a 27-20 defeat at the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 13, failing to cover as 2.5-point underdogs. Los Angeles has now lost 3 of its last 4 games.

Dolphins at Chargers picks and predictions

Prediction

Dolphins 31, Chargers 24

Moneyline

The odds for the Dolphins (-170) to win are at a point where I’ll PASS on taking them straight up. However, while I wouldn’t recommend taking Miami to win as a standalone bet at anything lower than -150, it’s fine using the Dolphins to win in a parlay.

Against the spread

With the Chargers struggling to find ways to win games again, DOLPHINS -3.5 (-102) is an enticing wager. Hill may be on the injury report for Miami, but nothing indicates he won’t be available to suit up.

The Dolphins are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games after allowing 30 or more points in the previous game and are 10-4 ATS in its last 14 meetings against Los Angeles.

Over/Under

With both of these offenses being capable of scoring a ton of points, OVER 54 (-113) is a fun wager to take in this game. Tagovailoa and the Dolphins should have no issues putting up points against a struggling Chargers defense after scoring only 17 points in Week 13.

The Dolphins have hit the Over in 4 of their last 5 games and in each of their last 4 road games. Meanwhile, the Chargers have gone 10-2 to the Over in their last 12 games following a loss and they’ve gone Over in 5 of their last 6 games against a team with a winning record.

The Miami Dolphins (8-3) visit the San Francisco 49ers (7-4) in a battle of division leaders Sunday. Kickoff from Levi’s Stadium is set for 4:05 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Dolphins vs. 49ers odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Dolphins have a 5-game winning streak after covering a 14-point spread in beating the Houston Texans 30-15 in Week 12. Miami had a brilliant 1st-half performance and led 30-0 at halftime and didn’t play their starters in the 2nd half. They are tied with Buffalo atop the AFC East.

The 49ers are on a 4-game winning streak since their blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 23. The NFC West leader won in Week 12 with a 13-0 shutout against the New Orleans Saints as 8-point favorites.

Dolphins at 49ers picks and predictions

Prediction

49ers 38, Dolphins 35

Moneyline

PASS.

The 49ers will win this game because their defense will have the ability to not only put more pressure on the QB, but they will also be able to string together more stops. The defensive effort paired with the elite offensive playmaking ability will make this game a hard one for the Dolphins to win. But that doesn’t mean you should a bet -210 line.

Against the spread

BET DOLPHINS +4.5 (-110).

Both of these teams are very good and expected to make deep playoff runs, which is why this will be a close game. Whoever wins will do so by a field goal or less and whether it’s the 49ers or the Dolphins that win, this is your best bet.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 45.5 (-112).

Both of these offenses are so high powered that it is hard for me to see this game being under 46 points. The Dolphins have scored 30+ point games in 4 straight games and the 49ers have some of the most talented players in the league at every position offensively. The 49ers defense is elite, but with 2 great offenses, expect the points to flow.

Houston Texans at Miami Dolphins odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Houston Texans at Miami Dolphins odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Texans (1-8-1) visit the Miami Dolphins (7-3) Sunday at 1 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Texans vs. Dolphins odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

After a 23-10 loss last Sunday to the Washington Commanders as 3-point underdogs, coach Lovie Smith was non-committal about QB Davis Mills and if he would continue to start for the Texans. With Houston firmly in control of the No. 1 draft pick in 2023, it looks like the team may be ready to select another signal caller. With Miami leading the AFC East and QB Tua Tagovailoa playing inspired football under coach Mike McDaniel, this looks like another game the Texans will lose on their way to the draft.

The Dolphins trade for WR Tyreek Hill has indeed brought out the best of Tagovailoa, who has taken a step up in his accuracy and his command of the team while Hill leads the league in receptions (81) and receiving yards (1,148). The  addition of DE Bradley Chubb from Denver at the trade deadline has helped the defense become a better unit as well as Miami tries to beat out the Buffalo Bills in the division race.

Texans at Dolphins picks and predictions

Prediction

Dolphins 31, Texans 10

Moneyline

PASS.

With the spread being so high, the ML is also too high to want to make a wager on. Avoid this wager and instead make a play on the spread or the total.

Against the spread

BET DOLPHINS -14 (-111).

Coming off a bye week, the Dolphins will feast on the Texans.

Even if Mostert sits, the addition of RB Jeff Wilson from the San Francisco 49ers at the trade deadline has the run game of Miami in solid hands.

Hill, already with 1,148 receiving yards, is looking to become the first 2,000-yard receiver in NFL history. While it will not happen this week, he could get a bunch against a terrible Houston defense, which is now playing without its only star in rookie CB Stingley.

The Texans will wilt in the hot Miami sun and the Dolphins will win this game easily. MIAMI -14 (-111) is my FAVORITE PLAY in this contest.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 47 (-114).

The Dolphins can score. But for this game to get Over 47, the Dolphins will need to hit 40. This is not a given in any NFL game and I am hesitant to bet on it in this one.

Coming off the bye, Miami will come out strong and then cruise to the end. If Houston can get this game Over, it will be with garbage-time points. But I do not think the Texans are good enough to even get garbage-time points. Their only source of offense is RB Dameon Pierce and after being shut down last week by Washington, Miami and Chubb will attempt to do the same this Sunday. TAKE UNDER 47 (-114).
