Notre Dame gets a commitment from 2025 offensive tackle

A verbal commitment with your morning coffee Irish fans

It seems like every week, Notre Dame football is adding another prospect to its 2025 recruiting class.

That’s because that’s exactly what they are going. On Tuesday morning, the Irish saw Connecticut offensive tackle [autotag]Matty Augustine[/autotag] commit to the program. The 6-foot-, 7-inch and 290-pound player is ranked as the No. 32 prospect at his position and the 394th overall in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Augustine chose the Irish over offers from Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and others. Just going off who gave him a scholarship opportunity, it seems like he is a very underrated prospect.

The Irish 2025 class now has 17 total commits, with Augustine being the third tackle of the group.

Wisconsin made the cut along with Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State. It should be noted that Augustine currently has four 247Sports crystal ball predictions to choose Notre Dame, including from Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong.

Wisconsin’s class of 2025 currently has seven commitments, all from three-star recruits. The group currently ranks No. 9 in a way-too-early look at the national rankings.

The Badgers finished the 2024 cycle with the No. 25 class in the nation. That group had a Blue Chip Ratio of 50%, signaling a potential step forward for the program’s recruiting prowess.

It’s still early, but Luke Fickell and his staff have a long way to go in 2025.

Notre Dame football sees multiple crystal ball picks for 2025 offensive tackle

The Irish are projected to add a big time offensive tackle

With fifteen total commits in the 2025 recruiting cycle, Notre Dame football is off to a fantastic start.

There is room for at least 10 more prospects and one of those targets is Connecticut offensive tackle [autotag]Matty Augustine[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 7-inch and 290-pound lineman is a solid prospect, ranking as the No. 32 offensive tackle and 393rd overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

On Wednesday a flurry of 247Sports Crystal Ball picks were made for the Irish to eventually land Augustine. Four of their experts: Kevin Sinclair, Brian Dohn, Steve Wiltfong and Tom Loy put their picks in, most of them coming directly after each other.

Currently of those 15 commits, two of them play the same position, Will Black and Owen Strebig. It seems like every recruiting cycle that Notre Dame adds multiple tackles to the program and it looks like 2025 will be no different.

Rutgers football offers dominant Connecticut offensive lineman Matty Augustine

Rutgers football offers Matty Augustine from Connecticut.

Matty Augustine was offered by Rutgers football over the weekend, adding another Power Five offer for the impressive offensive tackle.

The class of 2025 prospect is coming off a very strong season at the Brunswick School (Greenwich, Connecticut). He is listed at 6-foot-7 and 290 pounds with a frame that could easily handle more quality size.

The left tackle’s offer list is impressive and includes the likes of Boston College, Duke, Florida State, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin along with now an offer from Rutgers.

Augustine was most recently offered by UCLA in early January.

He is a three-star recruit and a consensus top-three player in Connecticut.

On Friday, Augustin posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, about the offer from Rutgers. In the social media post, Augustine tagged Rutgers head coach [autotag]Greg Schiano[/autotag] along with [autotag]Scott Vallone[/autotag], an assistant offensive line coach.

Augustine is an impressive prospect. With his frame and length, he generates a lot of power from his lower half which explodes out of his torso. He finishes blocks well and gets into the open space with relative ease.

Blue-chip 2025 OT sets unofficial fall visit with Florida football

Chalk up another in-season visitor set to see the Gators fight in the Swamp.

The recruiting grind continues for Florida football despite the start of the season, which lies just a couple of days away. Billy Napier and Co. have been busy preparing their team for the season opener this coming Thursday, but have also kept an eye on the prep prospects in the nation as well.

One of the coveted members of the 2025 recruiting class who has shown a keen interest in the Gators is four-star offensive tackle [autotag]Matty Augustine[/autotag] out of Greenwich (Connecticut) Brunswick, who recently divulged his fall visit schedule to 247Sports’ Brian Dohn. The 6-foot-7-inch, 290-pound lineman included the Orange and Blue on his itinerary, as well as a trio of other schools.

“I am thinking of going to Wisconsin versus Buffalo, Tennessee versus Florida, Notre Dame versus Ohio State and Michigan versus Ohio State,” he told Dohn.

The Gators are slated to host the Vols in the Swamp for the Southeastern Conference schedule opener on Sept. 16.

Augustine is rated at four stars and ranked No. 340 overall and No. 28 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking rates him at three stars and has him at Nos. 345 and 25, respectively. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has Notre Dame on top with an 85.5% chance of signing him, followed by Vanderbilt (3.7%) and Ohio State (2.1%).
