Danuel House Jr. feeling impressed by Sixers wing Matisse Thybulle

Danuel House Jr. is feeling impressed by Philadelphia 76ers wing defender Matisse Thybulle.

CAMDEN, N.J. — Philadelphia 76ers wing player Matisse Thybulle has earned his reputation as one of the top defenders in the league and made the All-Defensive second team two years in a row. He is working on adding a jump shot to his game, but the Sixers know the value he brings to the table.

Thybulle is one of the top defensive players in the league and the Sixers will continue to work with him through his jump shot development struggles. New addition Danuel House Jr. has been working with the defensive star out of Washington on his shot and he has been impressed with what he has seen.

In fact, he’s learning from Thybulle himself.

“Matisse is the guy!” said House Jr. “He’s a very smart, selfless guy, team player, he put in hard work, willing to listen to anybody, and willing to help you too if you have an open ear. He’s a second-team All-Defense guy, can guard so if he says so defensively, why not listen?”

House Jr. is off to a slow start shooting (31.3%) from deep, but he has shot over 41% from deep for the season twice in his career. So he is a guy who can work with Thybulle.

“Just as much as he says he’s learning from me I’m learning from him, too,” House Jr. added of Thybulle. “So it’s a building process. We’re building into each other. I told him I believe in his jump shot. Stop doubting yourself, shoot it. You work too hard. You put in a lot of work and I shoot with you, you can shoot the ball. Shoot it.”

That is one of the important aspects of the Sixers to begin the season. Despite the 5-6 record, they have stuck together and continued to grow as a team.

“That’s just the brotherhood and a bond that everyone on this team has just been there with one another,” House Jr. finished. “If I skip a shot, the team will tell me ‘shoot the ball’, so it’s just we trust in each other around here and I want to see my brother do good.”

B/R believes Sixers should look into trading defender Matisse Thybulle

Bleacher Report believes the Philadelphia 76ers should look into trading defender Matisse Thybulle.

The Philadelphia 76ers are sitting at 5-6 to begin the season and it has been a bit up and down. Philadelphia has had flashes of playing excellent basketball, but they have also had some stretches where they have looked bad on both ends of the floor.

Of course, the Sixers not having Joel Embiid for four games makes life tough for them, but there are some who believe a trade must be made in order to help Philadelphia chase down their championship.

Bleacher Report put together a list of what every time would do if the trade deadline was looming and, for the Sixers, they believe they should be looking into trading Matisse Thybulle:

With news that James Harden is expected to miss the next month with a tendon strain in his right foot, the 76ers may be tempted to make a big move if the deadline were tomorrow.

Instead, Philly shouldn’t panic, as a core of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Tobias Harris is good enough to carry the offensive load for a few weeks.

The focus should instead shift to Thybulle, the defensive ace who didn’t come to terms on a contract extension in the offseason and will be a free agent next summer. The 25-year-old is averaging a career-low 10.0 minutes a game, scoring just 1.4 points on 33.3 percent shooting.

With Thybulle no longer looking like a focal point in Philadelphia, the Sixers should at least take calls from teams who need perimeter defense, especially if they don’t want to pay him next offseason.

The idea of making trades this early in the season is a bit of an overreaction considering there are still 71 games of basketball left to be played. Of course, things can change at the actual deadline in February, but at the moment, the Sixers should be staying the course and continuing to grow as a team.

Player grades: Joel Embiid returns to lead Sixers past Suns at home

Joel Embiid returns to lead the Philadelphia 76ers past the Phoenix Suns at home and get back on track.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers needed a spark on the floor. They had lost two in a row, had dropped two games under .500 and were searching for answers as they hosted the red-hot Phoenix Suns on Monday.

Enter Joel Embiid. The big fella had missed three games in a row with the flu. He made a big impact, leading Philadelphia with 33 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a 100-88 win. It was an impressive win without James Harden, considering the circumstances.

Tobias Harris had 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Tyrese Maxey had 11 points and six assists with five rebounds. Georges Niang had 21 and tied his career-high with seven 3-pointers made. De’Anthony Melton had six points and seven rebounds.

Matisse Thybulle talks JJ Redick, shooting confidence, Sixers culture

Philadelphia 76ers wing player Matisse Thybulle discusses advice from JJ Redick, his confidence shooting the ball, and the team culture.

CAMDEN, N.J. — Philadelphia 76ers wing player Matisse Thybulle is one of the top defenders in the league. He has made the All-Defensive second team twice. The biggest problem for the defensive standout has always been his offensive game.

To begin the 2022-23 season, Thybulle is shooting 22.2% from deep in his limited playing time, but when watching him shoot, he has looked much freer and more confident in his shot. He revealed he worked all summer on the jumper, so one has to assume that the results will eventually come considering the work he has put into it.

Before the Sixers take on the Phoenix Suns on Monday, Thybulle opened up on the advice he received from former Sixers guard JJ Redick, the confidence he has in his jumper and the team culture.

Player grades: Tyrese Maxey, shorthanded Sixers fall to Knicks at home

Tyrese Maxey and the shorthanded Philadelphia 76ers could not get it done at home in a loss to the New York Knicks.

PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers had a tall task on Friday when they hosted the New York Knicks. They already knew that they wouldn’t have James Harden as he will be out a month with the right foot tendon strain, but they didn’t have Joel Embiid either due to a non-COVID illness.

Therefore, a lot of pressure was placed on Tyrese Maxey to carry the load on the offensive end, and he did so in a big way on Friday. The third-year guard out of Kentucky dropped 31 points with seven assists, but it wasn’t enough as the shorthanded Sixers dropped this one to the Knicks 106-104 despite the strong effort.

Tobias Harris chipped in with 23 points and nine rebounds with four assists, De’Anthony Melton added 12 and nine assists with five rebounds, and Montrezl Harrell had 14 and seven rebounds in a start.

Here are the player grades following the tough loss at home:

Doc Rivers believes Matisse Thybulle suffered ankle sprain in loss

Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers believes Matisse Thybulle sprained his ankle in a home loss to the Washington Wizards.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers were short-handed on Wednesday as they battled the visiting Washington Wizards. The Sixers were without Joel Embiid and De’Anthony Melton entering the game, but it appears they lost another key piece in a 121-111 loss to the Wizards.

Matisse Thybulle started in place of Melton on Wednesday but only played 16:43. He scored two points and had two assists. He played only 4:13 in the second half before being pulled. He didn’t play for the rest of the game.

Afterward, coach Doc Rivers explained why Thybulle was pulled.

“Injury,” Rivers said succinctly. “Yeah.”

When asked to clarify the injury, Rivers wasn’t sure, but he did offer up a reason.

“I have no idea,” he added. “I think it’s an ankle sprain, but I’m not positive of that.”

It remains to be seen if Thybulle will be OK, but he will have a day off before the Sixers host the New York Knicks on Friday.

Player grades: Tyrese Maxey’s night not enough as Sixers fall to Wizards

Tyrese Maxey’s big night was not enough as the Philadelphia 76ers fell to the Washington Wizards, snapping their 3-game win streak.

PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers returned home from a 4-game road trip looking to continue to build off their 3-game win streak. On Wednesday, they played host to the Washington Wizards, who they just defeated on Halloween, and were looking to sweep the home-and-home series.

The Sixers received a big night from Tyrese Maxey and they knocked down 19 triples compared to just five for Washington, but it wasn’t enough. The Wizards walked away with a 121-111 victory ending Philadelphia’s 3-game win streak as they took advantage of no Joel Embiid and De’Anthony Melton for the Sixers.

Maxey finished with 32 points, James Harden had 24, 10 assists, and eight rebounds, and Tobias Harris added 16 and nine rebounds. Georges Niang hopped off the bench and had 13 and Danuel House Jr. had 12 points of his own.

Player grades: Joel Embiid-less Sixers beat Wizards for 3rd straight win

Despite missing Joel Embiid, the Philadelphia 76ers knock off the Washington Wizards on the road for their third consecutive win.

The Philadelphia 76ers were looking to end their 4-game road trip on the right note following a tough opener to the trip. After dropping the first game of the trip, they had won two in a row and were looking for a third against the Washington Wizards on Halloween night.

Despite missing Joel Embiid due to a non-COVID illness, the Sixers were able to win their third straight 118-111 and even their record to 4-4 on the young season. They went 3-1 on the road trip and now, they can return home and continue to build some more momentum following the slow start.

James Harden had a stellar night with 23 points, 17 assists, and seven rebounds, Tyrese Maxey led Philadelphia with 28 points, Tobias Harris had 16, five rebounds, and four steals, PJ Tucker added 13 and five boards, and De’Anthony Melton had 16. Georges Niang had 12 points while Montrezl Harrell also added seven off the bench.

Here are the player grades following the win:

Sixers’ Joel Embiid has been biggest supporter of Matisse Thybulle

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has been the biggest supporter of Matisse Thybulle through ups and downs.

The Philadelphia 76ers have been tinkering with their rotation to begin the 2022-23 season as coach Doc Rivers tries to figure roles out.

One player out of the rotation to begin the season was Matisse Thybulle, who played a grand total of five minutes across the first five games. Considering Philadelphia’s defensive issues, it didn’t make sense to sit him any longer. Rivers put him back out there in the past two games, both of which were wins.

He played 22 minutes in a win over the Toronto Raptors on Friday and 21 minutes in a win over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday. The Sixers needed Thybulle’s defensive intensity. Despite not playing as much, he had the support of the team’s head honcho, Joel Embiid.

“Joel’s been one of my biggest supporters since I’ve been on the Sixers, and always been one of the loudest in celebrating my successes,” Thybulle told reporters. “It absolutely means a lot that the spearhead of the team, the guy who everything’s running through, supports you, and I think it helps to just to keep earning his trust. Like, he wants to trust me and like me and celebrate me, but to do the work and have the results that can actually materialize it. It feels good and it sure makes me excited.”

For the Sixers to have any success on their championship quest, they need Thybulle to play a part. He is an elite defender, and he has been working on his jumper to be an asset on the offensive end.
