Master Teague signed to Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad

Master Teague has been given an opportunity to show what he can do in the NFL once again.

Former Ohio State running back, Master Teague has been signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers to the practice squad. This move coming after Jaylen Warren came up lame with a hamstring injury in Sunday’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Teague came to Ohio State as a four-star prospect out of Tennessee. After redshirting his freshman season, Teague would play in the Buckeye backfield for the next three years. In that time, he played in 31 games, started six, and rushed for over 1,700 yards with 17 touchdowns.

The young man went undrafted in the 2022 NFL draft but was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chicago Bears. However, after a three-day rookie camp, the Bears decided to part ways and waived the former Ohio State tailback.

This is the former Buckeye’s second stint with the Steelers. Teague got some time during training camp and even ran for 31 yards on six carries during the team’s preseason opener. However, an ankle injury sidelined the running back and ultimately led to his being cut soon after.

If Teague is called up to the 53-man roster, he would be in line to be the third-string running back with a possibility of being second in line behind Najee Harris.

Watch Master Teague lower the BOOM at Steelers camp

Master Teague is working hard to prove he belongs on the Steelers roster.

We told you last week that former Ohio State running back, Master Teague had been signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers. This week he’s starting to make a name for himself.

Recently, video surfaced from the Steelers’ training camp showing some drills in which a defender tries to stop a ball carrier in open field. While we understand this is no easy task, Teague ultimately lowers the boom and runs right over the would-be tackler.

After Teague finishes the run, several teammates are ecstatic including fellow running back, Najee Harris who sprints over to congratulate his teammate on the impressive performance. Watch as the former Buckeye makes the eye-opening run below.

The Steelers will open preseason play tonight when they host the Seattle Seahawks. Harris is nursing a foot injury so the door is wide open for some of the new guys to make an impression as they look to make the 53-man roster.

It’s never easy to tell what coaches in the NFL are looking for, but so far, judging from social media, Teague seems to be making a good impression. And we’re hoping for nothing but the best for one of the most likable players ever to wear the scarlet and gray.

Master Teague gets second chance, signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers

Master Teague will get a second chance in the NFL after being picked up by the Steelers.

Former Ohio State running back, Master Teague has been signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers. This move coming after Jeremy McNichols was placed on injured reserve.

Teague who has a nice combination of power and speed now has a second chance to prove he belongs in the league. It also appears that he’ll be wearing No. 33, the same number he wore in Columbus.

Here’s to hoping Teague can stay healthy and find his footing in the Steel City.

Former Ohio State running back Master Teague released by Chicago Bears

Just one week after signing an undrafted free agent contract, Master Teague has been released.

Just over a week after the NFL draft and dreams are already being dashed. Several former Buckeyes who didn’t hear their names called in the first seven rounds were signed as undrafted free agents. One of which was running back Master Teague who was signed by the Chicago Bears.

However, after a three-day rookie camp, the Bears have waived the former Ohio State running back. They chose instead to keep Ohio University running back, De’Montre Tuggle. Teague was not invited to the NFL combine but put on an impressive showing at the Ohio State pro day. Some of the numbers he put up would have been among the top of all draft-eligible running backs.

While we hate to see Teague cut so soon, this is all about finding the right fit. It feels like the bruising power back with a rare combination of elite speed will get a call from another team before it’s all said and done.

Top five Big Ten running backs heading into 2021

Where does the #Buckeyes Master Teague rank in our top five?

The college football season (and Ohio State) is kicking off in less than a month and now is a good time to get familiar with the best the Big Ten has to offer. With Trey Sermon gone, where will returning stud Master Teague rank within the Big Ten? Is he a top-five back in the league, even with others pushing him?

The conference does not appear to be as flush with running backs as previous years, but there are still some talented backs. If you haven’t kept up with things, this list may surprise you. A few of these guys may hear their name called relatively early in next year’s NFL draft.

Here is how we see the top five running backs in the Big Ten shaking out before all the games are played in 2021.

Bet MGM Lists Three Buckeyes in Top 50 Heisman Odds

BetMGM currently has three Ohio State Buckeyes in their list of options to bet for winning the Heisman Trophy in 2021.

We here at Buckeyes Wire try our best to monitor the gambling odds situation in the college football landscape and we pay even closer attention to the odds presented over at BetMGM. We recently discussed C.J. Stroud being a strong legitimate sleeper candidate to take home the Heisman Trophy, but at the time of that article, there were no odds on BetMGM. Now with the odds back up it’s time to take a peak at the three Buckeyes that have the strongest odds to win the Heisman Trophy.

Ohio State running back Master Teague has best odds of any Ohio State player to win Heisman according to BetMGM

According to BetMGM, Master Teague is the odds-on favorite of any in scarlet and gray to win the Heisman in 2021.

Soft-spoken Ohio State running back Master Teague has played most of his Buckeye career in the shadows of others. First, it was backing up J.K. Dobbins. Then, after an injury in the Big Ten Championship game, Trey Sermon stole the spotlight breaking OSU rushing records.

But maybe this is Teague’s year. Many forget that while backing up Dobbins as a redshirt freshman, Teague gained more than 700 yards on the ground and earned third-team All-Conference honors. And last year, he was coming off an Achilles injury and may not have been fully at 100 percent.

Teague will again be battling for attention as ballyhooed freshman TreVeyon Henderson is getting tons of hype and has looked good in practice situations. However, at least one outlet believes Teague is the clear leader in the clubhouse as BetMGM has given the running back the best odds of any current Buckeye to win the Heisman Trophy.

Teague comes in just outside of the top ten of Heisman favorites, with 28/1 odds putting him at No. 11 on the list. There are only two other Buckeyes getting Heisman attention. Jack Miller and C.J. Stroud come in at 40/1 odds.

LOOK: Chris Olave shows Ohio State football has some ridiculous speed

You won’t believe the record board for the Ohio State football 40-yard dash times. Wide receiver Chris Olave shared some of the best times.

We all know Division I athletes are athletic freaks. They won the gene pool lottery, and it gives them the ability to do things us mere mortals only can dream of. Speed is one of those gifts.

Who among us hasn’t watched the 100-meter race in the Olympics and wondered what it might be like to move that fast and fluid? From the looks of a screenshot of Chris Olave’s Instagram story, some of the guys at Ohio State know exactly how that feels.

Like most programs, OSU keeps track of records. Athletes like to know where they stand and a little competition drives the best of the best. Olave’s story revealed there is some serious speed on the current Ohio State team, led by Master Teague with a 4.35 40-yard time. That’s really impressive if you’ve seen the recent shirtless picture of Teague and how massive he is.

I know Teague has been taking hits for not being as dynamic of a runner as some of his predecessors, but let’s cut the guy some slack. He was playing behind J.K. Dobbins, who was a pretty special talent. And last season, Teague was coming off an Achilles injury.

Olave himself made that list as well coming in at a 4.38 time in the 40-yard dash. Somewhat surprising on the list was Justin Fields also with a 4.38 time. We told you that Fields recently ran a 4.41 and might break that barrier leading up to the draft, but it looks like he already has done so at some point in the last two seasons.

The bottom line is this, speed kills and the Buckeyes have speed to burn. And that’s going to keep playing right into Ohio State’s game plan as they prepare for another title run.
