Jaguars Week 18 injury report: TE James O’Shaughnessy sits out of practice again

The Jags had two veterans return from a rest day on Wednesday, but their were no changes to the injury report that were related to injured players.

The only changes the Jacksonville Jaguars had on their injury report Thursday were to players who previously rested as receiver Marvin Jones Jr. and linebacker Damien Wilson returned to practice after having Wednesday off. There was also the addition of defensive tackle Malcom Brown, who was rested on Thursday as the aforementioned veterans previously were.

Both linebacker Myles Jack (knee) and tight end James O’Shaughnessy (hip) remained on the sidelines as neither practiced for the second consecutive time this week. If Jack continues on the pattern from previous weeks, he should practice on Friday, but O’Shaughnessy’s status is up in the air, though interim coach Darrell Bevell felt there was a chance he could return for the Jags’ season finale earlier in the week.

As for the Indianapolis Colts, their injury report had three changes and a new addition to it (T.Y. Hilton was added for rest). For more on their situation, the Colts Wire has the latest.

Report: Urban Meyer behind rising tensions with players, coaches within Jags organization

The Jags run under Urban Meyer has been a disaster, and according to a report, he’s behind rising tensions within the organization.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ 2021 season has been a disaster, to put it lightly, and the team will head into Week 14 with a 2-10 record, hoping to beat the Tennessee Titans. The team will have a tall task on their hands to beat a Tennessee team that is leading the AFC South with an 8-4 record and one that has the Jags’ number in Nashville (where the Jags haven’t won since 2013).

However, it appears they will make their trip a few states north with bigger problems than the Titans to address and will need to iron out some internal issues for the long-term future. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, first-year Jags coach Urban Meyer has been the root of rising tensions within the team and isn’t seeing eye-to-eye with players and coaches.

The report comes after the Jags were in the NFL headlines for their suspicious handling of running back James Robinson after he came out to say he felt like the team benched him for 20 plays after he fumbled the ball Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. Then earlier this week, the team’s No. 1 overall pick from April, Trevor Lawrence, revealed that he went to the staff and told them that the second-year running back needed to be on the field due to being one of the Jags’ best players.

Pelissero’s report shared various other shocking incidents that Meyer has been the root of, like the first-year head coach getting into a heated argument with one of the team’s most respected veterans Marvin Jones Jr. The argument was a result of tensions boiling over Meyer’s criticisms of the receivers group.

Pelissero also mentioned one occasion where Meyer delivered a message that insinuated that they were losers. According to the report, he challenged individuals on his staff to defend their résumés by discussing when they’ve won in their careers.

All of this comes in a season when Meyer also hired Chris Doyle, who was accused of racist behavior at Iowa, to run the team’s strength and conditioning program and was caught in a Cincinnati bar with a woman that wasn’t his wife dancing on him. Needless to say, this isn’t what owner Shad Khan wanted when he turned to Meyer for leadership over his franchise, and the last five games are going to be interesting in terms of news surrounding the organization.

5 keys to a Jags victory vs. the Bills

The Bills will be the toughest team the #Jaguars face this season, but we think there is ultimately five keys that could lead to an upset.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be playing one of the league’s best teams Sunday as the Buffalo Bills are coming to town. For that reason, many are expecting a rough day for the Jags who are on the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of placement in the NFL and have a 1-6 record.

However, as the saying goes any team can win on “any given Sunday” in this league, and the Jags are well aware of that. While they will be coming off a beatdown from the Seattle Seahawks, Sunday marks a new day, and we’ve seen the Jags stick with teams who are significantly better than them this season.

Of course, a victory won’t be easy, but if the Jags can make a miracle happen, here are five keys that could lead to them upsetting Buffalo:

Bye week stock report for Jags’ offense

With the #Jaguars on their bye week, it’s time for a stock report to reflect on whose on the rise for the team and who could afford to come out stronger afterward.

The Jacksonville Jaguars won’t be taking the field this week due to being on their bye week, giving fans a bit of time to recoup from what’s been an exhausting start. However, the good thing about the team taking their bye this week is that they went into it on a high note after defeating the Miami Dolphins in London Sunday.

After reflecting on the Jags’ first six games, now is as good a time as any to do a stock report as there have been players who’ve impressed and some who’ve fallen short of expectations. Let’s take a look at six names on offense whose stock is either up or down:

An elite defensive lineman from a familiar Florida high school has received an offer from Clemson.

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage four-star Marvin Jones, Jr. reported an offer from the Tigers on Friday afternoon.

Jones 6-5, 245) is ranked as the No. 5 defensive lineman and No. 15 overall prospect in the 2022 class by 247Sports, while Rivals ranks him as the No. 2 defensive lineman and No. 71 overall prospect in the class.

Jones is the son of a former All-American linebacker at Florida State, Marvin  Sr., who went on to have a 10-year career in the NFL after being drafted by the New York Jets in the first round of the 1993 NFL Draft.

As Jones’s recruitment dwindles down, he reportedly has official visits lined up to Oklahoma on Sept. 25, Alabama on Nov. 6 and FSU on Nov. 13. He previously took an official visit to Ohio State this past Saturday.

“Coach [Lemanski] Hall says he has some good news for me coming soon,” Jones Jr. told TCI in July of 2020. “He told me I was exactly what he was looking for in a defensive end/OLB and I was an ‘offerable’ kid. Clemson is definitely a school that could be heavily considered when it comes time to make a decision.”

Jags Week 1 Player of Game vs. Texans: WR Marvin Jones Jr.

While it’s hard to choose a standout after such a rough loss, the Jaguar we chose to nominate as the player of the game is WR Marvin Jones Jr.

It was a rocky Week 1 start for the Urban Meyer-led Jacksonville Jaguars, who lost 21-37 against the Houston Texans. Defensively the team looked slow and surprisingly outmatched against a Texans offense led by Tyrod Taylor and Brandin Cooks. The Jaguars managed just one sack while giving up nearly 450 yards on offense, which is certainly not an ideal start to the season.

On the other side of the ball, Trevor Lawrence and company took fans on an up and down roller coaster experience. The team was plagued by drops, penalties, and miscues, totaling 10 penalties on the day and three turnovers. After a slow start, the offense seemed to find a groove through Lawrence’s right arm. Down early, Lawrence rallied the team, throwing a 22-yard strike to Chris Manhertz.

It was Marvin Jones Jr., however, that showed the most consistency against the Texans. While Chark might have had a huge day statistically (with 86 yards and a touchdown), it was Jones who had the better day overall. Jones hauled in five balls for 77 yards and a touchdown.

Jones made an immediate impact in the game, bringing in a beautiful 33-yard pass. It was, arguably, Lawrence’s best throw of the day.

Jones might not be as flashy as Shenault or Chark, but his role in the offense is crucial to its success. His ability to create separation and score is why the Jaguars front office thought so highly of the former Detroit Lion. Jaguars fans got to see that ability first-hand late in the game Sunday when Lawrence rebounded and connected with Jones on a 4-yard touchdown reception.

The offense can be very good — scary good even. The weapons and quarterback are there to make this a dynamic offense. Jones played a fairly clean game, and it was many of the other offensive pieces that struggled. If the team can work on the penalties, drops, and miscues, the Jags’ top-3 receivers are more than enough to make opposing defensive coordinators sweat. Can they do it is more so the question?

Fantasy football: 6 WR sleepers to draft in 2021

Which wide receivers are being undervalued in fantasy football drafts?

Wide receivers have risen in prominence in fantasy football in the past few seasons. The NFL’s increased emphasis on throwing the ball means more wideouts are posting bigger fantasy numbers each year.

Finding good wide receivers late in the draft who can help your fantasy team is almost as rewarding as having your NFL team strike gold with a sixth-round WR who winds up becoming a quality starter.

We scoured the average draft position from fantasypros.com for standard scoring leagues and sought out players who should outperform their fantasy draft slots.

WATCH: Quintez Cephus’ touchdown catch in the Lions’ preseason finale

The former Wisconsin wide receiver continues to make plays going into his second season with the Lions:

Although former Wisconsin wide receiver Quintez Cephus saw limited time in his rookie season for the Detroit Lions, he has flashed his big-play potential in the targets he has seen so far.

In the Lions’ preseason finale last night, the second-year wide receiver scored on a perfectly run slant route to beat Colts’ cornerback Rock Ya-Sin on the initial coverage. The former Badger then expertly utilized his large frame to open himself up for the touchdown grab. Cephus finished the game with three receptions for 35 receiving yards and one touchdown.

With the offseason departure’s of Lions’ starting wide receivers Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones, Cephus will now have the opportunity to show what made him so unguardable at Wisconsin. If the former Badgers’ receiver can continue to make plays like this, he could develop into quite the red zone threat for the Lions this season.

Urban Meyer provides injury update on Cam Robinson, Marvin Jones, and others

In Monday’s game against the Saints, Marvin Jones Jr. sustained an AC sprain and is questionable for the week. That could leave Trevor Lawrence without two-thirds of his top Wr targets.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have a lot of work to do before their Week 1 regular season game against the Houston Texans, but before that happens they need to get healthier. The team trotted starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence onto the field Monday against the New Orleans Saints with three members from the starting offensive line sidelined, and it ended up being a rough night for him.

Jags coach Urban Meyer provided and update on two of the three starters from the group, stating that Cam Robinson should be back at left tackle this week, while Andrew Norwell is unlikely to play until the Week 1 opener.

“[Andrew] Norwell is expected to come back,”Meyer said. “He’ll for sure be back for Game 1. I don’t think we’ll play him this week. Cam [Robinson] was out. I think he’ll be ready for this week. I think I’ll know more tomorrow.”

Robinson sustained an ankle injury prior to Monday’s game and rookie Walker Little started in his place. With it being his first career NFL start (against the Saints at that), there were a lot of teaching lessons for Little. Still, it provided him with valuable time on the field, which is good because he’s a starter of the future for the Jags.

Additionally, receiver Marvin Jones Jr. got dinged up against the Saints as well and Meyer came out to say he sustained an AC sprain after going down hard for a catch in the first half. As a result, he’ll be questionable for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, but will definitely be able to play against the Texans.

“He [has an] AC sprain, so he’s questionable for this week,” Meyer said. “That was just when he dove for that ball.”

Jones has been Lawrence’s favorite target with DJ Chark Jr. out. That said, the veteran’s situation could leave Lawrence without his top two options against the Cowboys Sunday (though he’d still have Laviska Shenault). With the current receivers group already struggling to get separation, that may cause some issues in the passing game and could lead to options like Phillip Dorsett, Laquon Treadwell, and Jalen Camp having to step up.

Jaguars preseason Week 2 postgame injury report

Urban Meyer updated the status of several players after the loss to New Orleans on Monday night.

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne, who the team selected with the 25th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, exited in the first half of the team’s preseason loss to the New Orleans Saints on Monday night with a foot injury. He was listed as questionable to return, but his night ended at that, as many expected. He finished with just three yards in what has been a lackluster showing through three games.

After the game, coach Urban Meyer confirmed that Etienne sprained his foot and the severity is unknown, meaning his preseason may be over. According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Etienne was spotted in a walking boot after the game and will undergo tests in Jacksonville.

Schefter added that according to his source, Etienne suffered a mid-foot sprain and will be out indefinitely.

Meyer also made note of two more players after the game. Marvin Jones, who had 41 yards on four catches, was shaken up a bit early in the game, but Meyer said he was “fine.”

Meanwhile, left tackle Cam Robinson was revealed to have a sprained ankle which held him out of the game. Robinson was expected to play on Monday night, but rookie Walker Little started the game in his place. Little struggled significantly, underscoring Robinson’s importance once the games that matter roll around.

All three of these players are guys that are expected to see significant reps during the regular season, and the Jaguars will hope that these injuries aren’t too severe.
