Former Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr putting in work … maybe too much

Marv doing Marv things #GoBucks

Arizona Cardinals head coach, Jonathan Gannon, is starting to figure out what Ohio State coaches and fans have known for several years … Marvin Harrison Jr. is a workaholic.

In a recent press conference, Gannon was asked about his first-round pick and how he’s adjusting to the pro game. Gannon would share that Harrison “does a lot of extra… maybe too much.” The Cards head coach would go on to talk about how well his new receiver is doing, but that the coaching staff needs to keep him from doing too much. The concern being that he wears himself out before he even gets started.

Buckeye fans have seen the video evidence and it’s true, Marv put in the work and then some. It’s why he’s one of the best to ever wear the Scarlet and Gray. Coach Gannon may be onto something about overuse, however, good luck trying to get No. 18 to slow down.

Marvin Harrison Jr. signs with Arizona Cardinals

Another Ohio State playmaker gets paid #GoBucks

The Arizona Cardinals selected former Ohio State wide receiver, Marvin Harrison Jr., with the No.4 pick in the 2024 NFL draft, but ink met paper today, making the addition official. Since the introduction of the rookie wage scale in 2011, monitoring rookie contracts hasn’t been as exciting.

It is interesting to note that Harrison is the highest draft pick in this year’s class to have signed his contract. The contract is estimated to be approximately $35.3 million with a $22.5 million signing bonus over a span of four years with a fifth year team option.

The 2023 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year is expected to make an immediate impact for Arizona.

Marvin Harrison Jr. is being sued by Fanatics for breach of contract

Is Marv wrong here? #GoBucks

One of the greatest wide receivers to ever don the Scarlet and Gray is being sued by Fanatics according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Josh Weinfuss. Marvin Harrison Jr was selected No. 4 overall by the Arizona Cardinals in this year’s NFL draft and apparently has a contract with Fanatics but the two sides can’t seem to agree bringing about the lawsuit.

Fanatics claims it has a contract in place signed by Harrison during his college days as the exclusive company holding the rights to sell the wide receiver’s autograph and memorabilia. Fanatics also claims that Harrison has refused to uphold his end of the deal and has been actively shopping his services for better financial offers.

The suit also lists “The Official Harrison Collection LLC” as a defendant where Harrison Jr. is currently selling personal autograph memorabilia. The site says that “Cardinals memorabilia coming soon.”

Harrison is also yet to sign the NFL’s Player Association group licensing agreement. This would allow the players association to market his name, image, and likeness to 85 different companies.

Some may say that Mazarati Marv is already an NFL diva receiver, but maybe he’s just smarter than the average bear. Maybe using the system to work best for him instead of everyone else profiting off of his name is genius and could change the game.

Either way, it’ll be interesting to see where this thing goes.

Saints to kick off 2024 preseason against Cardinals in Arizona

The New Orleans Saints will kick off their 2024 preseason against the Cardinals in Arizona:

Here’s some big New Orleans Saints news. Nola.com’s Jeff Duncan reports that the Saints will open their 2024 preseason with an exhibition game against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale. They’ll have joint practices with the San Francisco 49ers before traveling to Santa Clara’s Levi Stadium for their second preseason game.

It’s easy to get excited about the prospect of seeing star talents like Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray and wideout Marvin Harrison Jr., this year’s fourth overall draft pick, but we should remember that it’s preseason. Both teams may not play their starters for more than a single possession or two, if at all, especially in the first week.

But it would be nice to see the Saints get some experience in Klint Kubiak’s new offense right out of the gate. Derek Carr struggled in Pete Carmichael’s offense last season and played limited snaps in preseason, so it’s reasonable to think he could use the experience in a real game situation. There’s always a risk of injury, but that’s true even at practice. We’ll have to wait and see if the Saints take a different approach in hopes of starting faster this season.

Which All-Pro cornerback did Brian Baldinger just compare Rutgers’ Max Melton to?

NFL Network’s Brian Baldinger made a Pro Bowl comparison for Max Melton.

NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger has hesitation in comparing Max Melton to one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks in Darius Slay. Melton, a former defensive back at Rutgers, landed in a spot with the Cardinals in the NFL draft where he projects to get a lot of snaps.

The Cardinals selected Melton in the second round of April’s NFL draft, taking him No. 43 overall. At Rutgers, Melton was a multi-year starter who was an All-Big Ten selection at defensive back.

Baldinger, an analyst with the NFL Network who spent 12 years in the NFL as a standout offensive lineman, believes that Melton is a good fit with the Cardinals.

And he likened Melton to Slay, an All-Pro cornerback with the Philadelphia Eagles who has been a Pro Bowl selection six times in his NFL career.

“I mean, he just loves to compete. And honestly, when I watch him, he reminds me of a very young Darius Slay – they are almost identical in all their measurements,” Baldinger told Rutgers Wire in an interview last week.

“Max….is not as tall but every bit as fast.  I mean all the measurables are very, very consistent and when I watched Darius as a young player in Detroit, I remember how aggressive. He wasn’t the tackler that Max is but he would challenge any receiver. If he was scrimmaging Pittsburgh he wanted Antonio Brown every play. So that’s kind of what it reminds me of Max = he wants their number one receiver inside, outside, wherever you are. And I think that’s what Arizona was getting. I think that’s what they liked about him.”

This past season, Rutgers had a halftime lead over Ohio State before falling 35-16. One of the reasons why Rutgers very nearly upset the third-best team in the nation at the time was Melton’s performance against [autotag]Marvin Harrison Jr[/autotag].

Harrison, ironically a first round pick of the Cardinals, won the Fred Biletnikoff Award last year last year as college football’s best wide receiver.

Melton held Harrison to four catches for 25 receiving yards. It was the Ohio State standout’s second-lowest receiving tally of the season.

Baldinger thinks Melton landed in the NFL draft in a spot where he can be developed and compete for playing time.

[lawrence-related id=37686,37675]

“I thought he went to a good spot, number one, Arizona has built this thing piece by piece. I thought it was pretty interesting – he went at No. 43,” Baldinger said.

“Cooper DeJean, who a lot of people thought was a top three corner – he went 40. So it looks like (Melton) is in the top five. I mean, I thought he was a good player. I mean, obviously, he’s very, very aggressive. He’s a very good tackler. He refuses to be blocked on the perimeter. But I think his ball skills are as good as anybody in this whole business. And you know, he really challenges receiver – Marvin Harrison right up in his grill. He looks like he’s got the mindset to be a very good corner in this business.”

Marvin Harrison Jr. reacts to Max Melton’s NFL draft selection by the Arizona Cardinals

Marvin Harrison Jr. is excited about the arrival of Max Melton to the Arizona Cardinals.

After spending the last three seasons going up against Rutgers defensive back Max Melton in the NFL draft, Marvin Harrison Jr. has nothing but respect for his new teammate. One day after Harrison was a first round pick of the Arizona Cardinals, his new team took Melton in the second round.

Harrison, an All-Big Ten selection at Ohio State, had some great competitions against Melton. Last year, Melton held Harrison to four catches for 25 yards as Rutgers nearly upset Ohio State.

Practice for the Cardinals in rookie minicamp just got very interesting as these two players know each other well.

Melton’s performance against Harrison this past fall was impressive as it was the second-lowest receiving total of the year for the Ohio State wide receiver.

The Cardinals took Melton in the second round of the NFL draft with the No. 43 overall selection. The pick of the Rutgers defensive back led to a social media reaction from Harrison:

Melton is in a good spot with the Cardinals, who need help in their secondary.

[lawrence-related id=37664,37675]

Melton played all four years at Rutgers where he had 113 total tackles, eight interceptions, 20 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and four fumble recoveries in 43 games.

Watch as Arizona Cardinals draft pick Max Melton once shut down Marvin Harrison Jr.

Max Melton was impressive this past fall against Marvin Harrison Jr.

With the selection of Max Melton in the second round of the NFL draft by the Arizona Cardinals, the former Rutgers football star is heading to a team where he can and should see the field early. And Melton has already proven his ability to play big, shutting down first-round pick Marvin Harrison Jr. this past season.

Harrison, a first-round pick of the Cardinals (fourth overall in the NFL draft), was shut down by Melton during a Big Ten game last October between Ohio State and Rutgers. Have to think that Melton will remind Harrison of that during the Cardinals rookie minicamp.

Melton held Harrison to four catches for 25 receiving yards. It was the Ohio State standout’s second-lowest receiving tally of the season.

Rutgers had a halftime lead over Ohio State before falling 35-16.

Taken in the second round of the NFL draft (No. 43 overall) on Friday night, Melton brings plenty of experience as a multi-year starter at Rutgers in the Big Ten. Selected to multiple All-Big Ten teams over the past two years, Melton is an aggressive and instinctual defensive back in Melton.

He is coming off a strong NFL combine where he ran a 4.39 time in the 40. That performance, coupled with the Senior Bowl, helped elevate his draft stock.

Combative at the line, Melton uses his hands very well in press coverage. His hips are fluid and he has solid footwork.

[lawrence-related id=37662,37646,37642]

He is a sure and steady tackler. In coverage, he can match up well with smaller, shifter wide receivers as well as having the reach and length to challenge bigger downfield targets.

Marvin Harrison Jr. drafted No. 4 by the Arizona Cardinals

Marvin Harrison Jr. drafted by the Arizona Cardinals #GoBucks

Welcome to the 2024 NFL draft, and for Ohio State football fans Day 1 already looks to be over. The lone projected first-round Buckeye went off the board with the fourth pick to the Arizona Cardinals.

Ohio State fans were always confident [autotag]Marvin Harrison Jr.[/autotag] would be the top receiver off the board, but rumors were swirling that Malik Nabers could be a surprise pick.

Harrison received some negative publicity during the pre-draft process due to him electing to sit out workouts. However, just like his Hall of Fame father, Harrison was selected on the first day of the NFL draft.

The Arizona Cardinals look to be a team to watch for Ohio State fans moving forward. This is two years in a row that they selected a Buckeye with their top pick. They selected offensive tackle Paris Johnson last year.

Harrison joins a prestigious group of former Ohio State star receivers in the NFL and he maybe the best of the entire group. We wish Harrison good luck!

Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. signs shoe deal with abnormal company

A first for Harrison Jr. #GoBucks

As we all know, and if you didn’t, Ohio State athletics is sponsored by Nike.

Many of the Buckeye athletes can be seen around campus wearing the Swoosh, and some do the same at the next level. [autotag]Marvin Harrison Jr.[/autotag] is paving his own way, as it was announced on Tuesday that the star wide receiver has signed a shoe deal with New Balance.

Harrison is far from the face of the brand, as Los Angeles Dodgers superstar pitcher and hitter, [autotag]Shohei Ohtani[/autotag], also has a deal with them, but he is the first football player to do so.

It is a huge week for the Buckeye, as Harrison Jr. will soon find out where he will play next as the NFL draft is set to begin on Thursday. Many expect Harrison to be selected early, and that should be the case.

The 2024 NFL Draft receiving class is maybe the deepest we’ve seen

The 2024 NFL Draft receiving class is maybe the deepest we’ve seen

When it comes to the NFL Draft every class has a certain strength or weakness at each given position, in the 2024 class the strength of the wide receiver position sticks out unlike any other receiver class we have seen in some time.

Though recent history has blessed the league with a truck load of talented young pass catchers, it’s hard to look back and see one quite as stacked as this upcoming one. With certified studs littering the top ten on the majority of big boards in Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze, that really only scratches the surfaces level on just how good this class is, which is saying something.

Past the likely top ten picks in this class there is a possibility of anywhere from two to four more receivers drafted into the first round. Adonai Mitchell, Brian Robinson Jr., Xavier Legette, Xavier Worthy, and a few more all have made cases for a potential first-round selection.

Beyond the first round the receiver position is also the most solid in day two of the draft, with two handfuls of receivers projected to go fairly early in the second day. The drop-off from day two to day three isn’t even as steep as one might think, as it’s possible to find a starter past round three in this completely loaded class.

Between the top end talent and the projected starters all the way into day three, it might be safe to call this class one of, if not the best receiver class we have seen in recent years.
