Former Ohio State safety Jahsen Wint finds a new home

Jahsen Wint finds a new home in Huntington, West Virginia for the 2023 season.

Shortly after finding out that former Ohio State defensive back, Amir Riep would continue his football at Lincoln University in Oakland, California, we now know where Jahsen Wint will resume his career. Wint announced that he has committed to Marshall University.

In a YouTube video that is close to nine minutes long, Wint takes you on a journey in three parts. Starting with his upbringing and walking through the events that happened during and after his case, the former Buckeye announced he will be attending Marshall in the fall.

You can watch Wint’s video in its entirety below courtesy of his personal Twitter feed. However, please be warned there is some adult language.

Wint came to Ohio State in 2016 and spent four seasons in Scarlet and Gray. He appeared in 35 games with the Buckeyes and became part of the rotation in 2018. He recorded 39 tackles and a sack in his OSU career.

Wint will look to step in immediately to help the Thundering Herd who went 9-4 in 2022, ending the season with a win over UConn in the Myrtle Beach Bowl.

Marshall fans go nuts as squirrel runs 40 yards to paydirt

A squirrel had the fans roaring at the FIU-Marshall game.

You never know where you will find your next highlight on a college football Saturday.

This one comes to us from the FIU-Marshall game and it had the Thundering Herd fans roaring.

No points wound up on the scoreboard but it was a tremendous example of broken-field running … and announcing.

Watch as the squirrel starts at the 40 and starts, stops, dekes and fakes while the crowd gets louder with every yard gained.

Finally, he makes his way into the end zone to the delight of the announcer and Marshall faithful.

Panthers add kicker/punter Kaare Vedvik off waivers

Not only has a fresh coaching regime resulted in an influx of new faces into Carolina this offseason, but it’s also brought along a wave of new feet to the roster as well.

The latest addition to the Panthers’ special team unit was made official late Thursday afternoon when the team announced that they claimed Norwegian utility leg Kaare Vedvik off waivers. The 26-year-old, who spent his most recent stint with the Buffalo Bills, is listed as both a kicker and a punter.

Vedvik was first signed by the Baltimore Ravens in 2018 as an undrafted free agent out of Marshall University, where he averaged 44.0 yards per punt in his senior campaign while converting on 10 of his 16 field goal attempts and 41 of his 42 extra point tries. He’d connect on all four of his field goal attempts for Baltimore in their preseason opener that year and would go on to average 55.5 yards per punt on two boots the preseason after.

After being traded to the Minnesota Vikings for a fifth-round pick on Aug. 11 of 2019, Vedvik was waived and subsequently claimed by the New York Jets on Sept. 1. This is where he’d record his only official NFL stats, a missed extra point and a missed 45-yard field goal attempt in a 17-16 season-opening loss to the Bills. He was, again, waived nine days later.

With usual starter Michael Palardy out for the 2020 season due to a torn ACL and rookie Joseph Charlton, um, failing to impress, this signing brings extra competition to the punting scene and perhaps some versatility to the group. Even with kicker Joey Slye securing starting kicking duties with Graham Gano gone, Vedvik could serve as a big leg on kickoffs and/or long distance field goal tries if needed.

Patriots’ draft choice says he’ll cover up controversial tattoo

Patriots’ draft pick Justin Rohrwasser says he will cover up a controversial tattoo.

The New England Patriots have been the buzz of the NFL offseason. Players exiting. Tom Brady leaving. Rob Gronkowski being traded. Who would have thought the selection of a kicker in the fifth round of the NFL Draft Saturday could generate another source of controversy.

It did.

The Patriots chose Justin Rohrwasser from Marshall with the 14th pick, 159th overall. Rohrwasser started his college career at Rhode Island before transferring. A tattoo on his left arm caught the eyes of social media when pictures of Rohrwasser began to surface.

Per Boston.com:

Featured prominently on Rohrwasser’s arm is a tattoo that is known as a symbol for the Three Percenters, a group recognized by the Southern Poverty Law Center as an “anti-government” organization.

Rohrwasser acknowledged the tattoo during a conference call with Patriots media members. Here’s what he said:

Question: One of your tattoos matches a group called the Three Percenters. What’s the story there?

Rohrwasser’s response: “I got that tattoo when I was a teenager and I have a lot of family in the military. I thought it stood for a military support symbol at the time. Obviously, it’s evolved into something that I do not want to represent. When I look back on it, I should have done way more research before I put any mark or symbol like that on my body, and it’s not something I ever want to represent. It will be covered.”

The Three Percenters group says it isn’t an anti-government militia but “we will defend ourselves when necessary.”

Rohrwasser said Patriots special-teams coach Cameron Achord attended his pro day in early March. There is no way to know if Rohrwasser’s tattoo was visible to Achord or if the kicker was wearing long sleeves that day. Rohrwasser did not wear sleeves in photos of him kicking at Marshall. Additionally, tattoos can be removed. Wonder if Rohrwasser will consider taking that step?
