UFC 303 adds Joe Pyfer vs. Marc-Andre Barriault to International Fight Week lineup

UFC 303, the International Fight Week event headlined by Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler, continues to fill.

The annual pay-per-view lineup for International Fight Week is filling up slowly but surely.

The most recent addition to UFC 303 is a middleweight bout between [autotag]Joe Pyfer[/autotag] and [autotag]Marc-Andre Barriault[/autotag], the promotion announced Wednesday. The event takes place June 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and is headlined by Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler.

Pyfer (12-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC) aims to rebound from his first promotional loss. He earned a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022 and became one of the show’s most well known products partially due to White’s “Be Joe Pyfer” post-fight speech. Pyfer defeated Alen Amedovski, Gerald Meerschaert and Abdul Razak Alhassan before he lost a unanimous decision to Jack Hermansson in his first promotional main event in February.

Barriault (16-7 MMA, 5-6 UFC) looks to bounce back into the win column after a split decision loss to Chris Curtis in January. The defeat snapped a two-fight skid that consisted of wins over Julian Marquez and Eryk Anders.

With the addition, the UFC 303 lineup includes:

UFC 297 Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay: Sean Strickland’s $42,000 tops card

Fighters from Saturday’s UFC 297 took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $285,500.

TORONTO – Fighters from Saturday’s UFC 297 event took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $285,500.

The program, a comprehensive plan that includes outfitting requirements, media obligations and other items under the fighter code of conduct, replaces the previous payments made under the UFC Athlete Outfitting Policy.

UFC 297 took place at Scotiabank Arena in Canada. The main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPNews and ESPN+.

Under the UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance program’s payout tiers, which appropriate the money generated by Venum’s multi-year sponsorship with the UFC, fighters are paid based on their total number of UFC bouts, as well as Zuffa-era WEC fights (January 2007 and later) and Zuffa-era Strikeforce bouts (April 2011 and later). Fighters with 1-3 bouts receive $4,000 per appearance; 4-5 bouts get $4,500; 6-10 bouts get $6,000; 11-15 bouts earn $11,000; 16-20 bouts pocket $16,000; and 21 bouts and more get $21,000. Additionally, champions earn $42,000 while title challengers get $32,000.

In addition to experience-based pay, UFC fighters will receive in perpetuity royalty payments amounting to 20-30 percent of any UFC merchandise sold that bears their likeness, according to officials.

UFC 297’s Marc-Andre Barriault inspired by Sean Strickland’s title win: ‘It proves to me that everything is possible’

Marc-Andre Barriault was motivated to see Sean Strickland become UFC champion.

TORONTO – Few saw [autotag]Sean Strickland[/autotag] upsetting Israel Adesanya and becoming UFC champion. Although the result shocked many, it also inspired others.

UFC middleweight [autotag]Marc-Andre Barriault[/autotag] added fuel to his growing motivation of one day holding UFC gold after watching Strickland do what many deemed impossible.

“To see those guys Sean and Dricus fighting for the title, especially Sean winning the title last time, it proves me that everything is possible,” Barriault said at Wednesday’s UFC 297 media day. “So why not me? I’ve been in huge fights before. I’ve been a champion in my previous promotion, TKO, so I know what it takes to be a champion. I just need to, like I said, be myself, be confident, do the hard work, and fight hard.

“I’m pretty sure that after this fight – for myself, for my team and for the fans in the UFC – they’re going to put some respect on my name, and I’m going to be there for a big run.”

Barriault (16-6 MMA, 5-5 UFC) competes on the main card of UFC 297, the event Strickland will be headlining in his first title defense against Dricus Du Plessis. Barriault takes on Chris Curtis (30-10 MMA, 4-2 UFC) in a middleweight matchup.

Although inspired by Strickland’s win, Barriault believes the title will change hands.

“I can see a new champion be crowned on Saturday,” Barriault said. “I think Dricus is strong, he’s a good guy, he’s a good fighter, too. He can take the fight wherever he wants. It depends on how he’s going to handle the game plan. We’ll see. Exciting matchup.”

Michel Pereira heading back to middleweight vs. Marc-Andre Barriault after UFC 291 weight miss

After missing the welterweight mark in his past outing, Michel Pereira has booked his next fight at middleweight.

After missing the welterweight mark in his past outing, [autotag]Michel Pereira[/autotag] has booked his next fight at middleweight.

Pereira (28-11 MMA, 6-2 UFC) faces [autotag]Marc-Andre Barriault[/autotag] (16-6-1 MMA, 5-5-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night on Oct. 14 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the booking to MMA Junkie after an initial report by MMA reporter Laerte Viana.

Pereira missed the welterweight limit by three pounds for his matchup against Stephen Thompson this past July at UFC 291. Thompson elected not to compete, and as a result, the bout was scrapped. The 29-year-old Brazilian, who’s on a five-fight winning streak, will compete at 185 pounds for the first time since joining the UFC roster in May 2019.

After going winless in his first four octagon bouts, Barriault has won five of his past seven, and is coming off back-to-back wins over Julian Marquez and Eryk Anders. The 33-year-old Canadian has finished 11 of his 16 professional wins.
