Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard wins Air It Out at Manning Passing Academy

Congrats Riley!

One of the top quarterback camps in the country is the Manning Passing Academy, where they annually bring in some of the best collegiate quarterbacks as counselors.

Notre Dame quarterback [autotag]Riley Leonard[/autotag] was invited to the prestigious camp, and it’s not just mentoring high school prospects, the college players take part in competitions as well. The Irish starter battled against Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel and Texas A&M’s Connor Weigman.

Leonard came out victorious in the accuracy competition, earning him the title of Air It Out champion. This is a great sign for Notre Dame fans, especially considering the starter had to sit out most of the spring with an ankle injury.

As you can see, Leonard was the only one of the three to hit the target, showing off his impressive accuracy. Congrats Riley on a great showing at the Manning Passing Academy!

QB Garrett Nussmeier says LSU’s receiver room is filled with ‘dogs’

Garrett Nussmeier isn’t worried about replacing the production of Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr.

LSU suffers a lot of losses on offense entering 2024. Not only is quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] moving on to the NFL, but he’s joined by his top two receivers from 2023 in [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] and [autotag]Brian Thomas Jr.[/autotag]

Most outside observers would expect some regression on that side of the ball this offseason, but new quarterback [autotag]Garrett Nussmeier[/autotag] disagrees. Speaking to reporters at the Manning Passing Academy, he describes LSU’s receiver room — bolstered by a pair of offseason transfer additions in [autotag]CJ Daniels[/autotag] and [autotag]Zavion Thomas[/autotag] — as being filled with “dogs.”

In addition to returning players like [autotag]Kyren Lacy[/autotag] and [autotag]Chris Hilton Jr.[/autotag], Nussmeier also praised the offensive line, which many expect to be the nation’s best this fall.

“No doubt. With Chris Hilton, Kyren (Lacy), CJ (Daniels), Zavion (Thomas), Kyle Parker, the list goes on and on,” Nussmeier said. “And I hate naming guys because I always leave someone out on accident, but all of our room, the entire receiver room is just a bunch of dogs, and it’s one of the reasons that played into my decision to come to LSU, along with many other things.

“But you know if I go to LSU, I’m always going to have some dogs. This state produces receivers and DBs like no other. So it’s huge, and then you go on top of that with the offensive line we have, it’s going to be able to give me time to get them the ball, and that’s my job. To just let playmakers make plays, and we have a lot of them, so I’m excited.”

Replacing the production of Nabers and Thomas won’t be easy, but LSU’s new signal-caller clearly thinks the roster has the talent to do so.

LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier livid that Death Valley isn’t toughest place to play in College Football 25

Garrett Nussmeier is not pleased that Tiger Stadium isn’t the toughest place to play in College Football 25.

There’s a lot of excitement around the upcoming release of EA Sports’ College Football 25 — not just among fans, but among players, as well.

However, not every player is pleased with all the information that has been released so far. Speaking to reporters at the Manning Passing Academy, LSU quarterback [autotag]Garrett Nussmeier[/autotag] had a bone to pick with the fact that Tiger Stadium only ranked as the third toughest venue in the game.

“Don’t even get me started, first off,” Nussmeier said when asked about the game’s stadium rankings. “There’s no place like Death Valley at night, first off, it’s not even close. Kyle Field is loud, it’s not Death Valley. The Swamp is loud, it’s not Death Valley.

“I don’t want to piss NCAA off because I’d like them to make my rating nice… I’m not mad, I’m just saying. If you’re updating the players’ rankings, maybe come to one more game, and you might update the stadium ranking.”

Regardless of the stadium rankings, however, Nussmeier described the surreal feeling of seeing himself in a video game that he grew up playing. He added that he’s pre-ordered the game and has no intention of waiting for the free copy the developers are sending to players who opted in.

“It’s an unreal feeling,” Nussmeier said. “I played that game probably more than any game I’ve ever played. To be in it, I remember when they first announced it, I was speechless for a while. And then when they dropped the trailer and I saw myself, it was unreal. I just can’t describe, the fact that I’m about to be in a video game is absolutely insane, especially the game that I grew up playing.

“I’m so excited for the game to come out. I already got it pre-ordered, I know they’re sending us a free copy — thank you for that — but I’m not waiting for that free copy to get there. I need it the minute it releases.”

LSU fans will get the chance to play as Nussmeier and other Tigers stars when the game is released on July 19.

Garrett Nussmeier says focus is on national title, doesn’t feel Heisman pressure

LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier said he’s only focused on one thing this year.

Following in the footsteps of [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag], some might be thinking LSU quarterback [autotag]Garrett Nussmeier[/autotag] is feeling the pressure to repeat Daniels’ Heisman campaign.

Ten years ago, suggesting a Heisman-caliber season as a standard for an LSU quarterback would sound crazy. Now, after Daniels in 2023 and [autotag]Joe Burrow[/autotag] in 2019, LSU is a place that expects elite quarterback play.

Nussmeier spoke about those expectations at the Manning Passing Academy, saying there’s only one thing on his mind.

“I don’t really feel any pressure. I could care less if I win the Heisman or not, really don’t care at all to be honest with you,” Nussmeier said, “Everybody talking about this two to three Heisman winners before you. I don’t care. I want to win a national championship. I want to lead LSU to the greatest stakes possible. That’s all I care about.”

After backing up Daniels for the last two years, Nussmeier is LSU’s QB1. He said the dynamic has changed with his new role, but he’s been preparing for this since he got to school.

Nussmeier could have hit the portal last year and found a role starting elsewhere, but he elected to wait his turn at LSU, a decision that looks to be paying off.

Texas’ QB Arch Manning shares playing time expectations for 2024

Longhorns’ QB Arch Manning discusses what playing time he expects to see this year at Manning Passing Academy

Everyone around the Texas Longhorns program knows that Quinn Ewers is the guy. Ewers will be a third-year starter for Steve Sarkisian in 2024 having already claimed a Big 12 title, a road victory against the Alabama Crimson Tide, and the Longhorns’ first-ever CFP berth a season ago.

Many experts project Ewers to be the first QB taken in the 2025 NFL draft, and people often forget how highly sought after Ewers was out of high school. Not only was Ewers the No. 1 ranked QB in the 2021 recruiting cycle, but he was the No. 1 overall player.

However, when Texas was able to land a commitment from [autotag]Arch Manning[/autotag], there was much speculation as to what that would mean for the QB situation on the Forty Acres. Especially on the outside looking in.

Similar to Ewers, Manning was also the No. 1 overall recruit in his recruiting class. So, I do find it quite remarkable that not only was Sark able to recruit both guys, but he was able to keep them. Truthfully though, Sarkisian has done an outstanding job devising a plan that helps both players develop on their timelines.

Manning knows that he would start at just about every school in the country, yet, he knows that taking his time to see the field may be the best thing for his career.

With both Ewers and Manning down in Louisiana for the Manning Passing Academy, Arch spoke to On3 regarding his expectations for the upcoming 2024 season saying, “I feel like I’m getting better every day. Just trying to stay ready. Anything can happen. I’m excited and I’m gonna be ready.”

I think that Arch is wise beyond his years and taking this time to learn from Sarkisian and Ewers is only going to benefit him down the road. If Ewers ever went down with an injury Manning would be more than ready to step in, but for now, Arch is just focused on getting a little bit better every day.

Oregon Ducks QB Dillon Gabriel to attend Manning Passing Academy in 2024

Dillon Gabriel will be taking his second trip to the Manning Passing Academy this year.

Going into the 2024 college football season, Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel is considered among the best passers in the nation, and he is a early contender for the Heisman Trophy.

So it makes sense that he is attending the most prestigious passing camp in the nation, the Manning Passing Academy.

On Instagram this past week, the Manning Passing Academy announced which college players would be attending as counselors, listing Gabriel along with Arch Manning, Cade Klubnik, Jaxson Dart, Jalen Milroe, Carson Beck, Quinn Ewers, and many others.

This is the second time that Gabriel will attend the camp and the fifth-straight year that the Ducks will be represented.

The passing academy will take place from June 27-30 at Nicholls St. in Thibodaux, Louisiana.

Alabama’s Jalen Milroe one of 10 SEC QB’s expected to attend the Manning passing academy

Alabama QB Jalen Milroe expected to attend the Manning passing academy this summer

After an ugly ten-point home loss at the hands of the Texas Longhorns, QB [autotag]Jalen Milroe[/autotag] lost his starting job to Tyler Buchner heading into the USF game in Week 3. With Ty Simpson waiting for a shot to play as well, there was no guarantee that Milroe would ever get his job back with the  Alabama Crimson Tide.

Fast forward three months, Milroe finished No. 6 in the country in the Heisman race and guided the Tide to an SEC championship and a College Football Playoff semi-final berth. Milroe has always been wildly dynamic with the ability to make plays with his feet, but it was his growth as a passer that changed the 2023 season for himself and Alabama.

Now, Milroe will get to work with new head coach Kalen DeBoer who just boosted Washington Huskies QB Michael Penix Jr. into the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

It would have been easy for Milroe to walk away and give up on Alabama last year after being benched, but he dug his heels in and fought. Milroe could have transferred along with a number of other players after Saban’s retirement, but he didn’t. As a result for his willingness to take adversity head on, I think Milroe is due for a massive season.

Milroe is doing all the right things this summer as well as he will be one of 10 SEC quarterbacks attending the Manning Passing Academy this summer. It will be exciting to see what kind of draft position Milroe can play himself into this season.

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier to attend Manning Passing Academy

Garrett Nussmeier is one of nine SEC quarterbacks expected to attend the Manning Passing Academy.

LSU quarterback [autotag]Garrett Nussmeier[/autotag] is taking over the starting job in Baton Rouge this season after spending the last three years as a backup, and he’ll have some nice offseason instruction from legends of the game.

Nussmeier was announced as one of the expected attendees at this summer’s Manning Passing Academy by Garland Gillen of Fox 8 in New Orleans.

He joins a star-studded list of quarterbacks expected to attend, including nine other SEC quarterbacks. It will be the second year in a row LSU has had a quarterback in attendance at the Manning Passing Academy after [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] attended last summer ahead of his Heisman campaign.

The Manning Passing Academy is an annual, four-day youth quarterback clinic held in Thibodeaux, Louisiana, featuring many of the top passers from around the country assisting the Manning family as hosts of the camp.

Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton on rooming with Jayden Daniels at Manning Passing Academy

There’s a clear mutual respect between Jayden Daniels and Joe Milton, who are arguably the league’s two best quarterbacks.

The Manning Passing Academy is an incredible opportunity for some of the nation’s top college football quarterbacks to hone their schools while being around other great competitors.

In the case of LSU quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag], who was in attendance earlier this summer in Thibodeaux, Louisiana, he was ultimately paired up with another starting SEC quarterback in Tennnessee’s Joe Milton as a roommate.

Milton comes in looking to fulfill an unorthodox career arc. A transfer from Michigan, Milton entered the 2021 season as the Volunteers’ starting quarterback but was ultimately supplanted by Hendon Hooker.

Following Hooker’s torn ACL, Milton impressed down the stretch and enters the 2023 season as a starter once again.

LSU and Tennessee faced last year in what was an ugly loss for the Tigers at home. Though Milton didn’t start that game, he said that it was one of the topics he and Daniels discussed.

“It was great,” Milton said about rooming with Daniels. “Our first conversation was talking about the LSU game when we played against them. And we both were just talking about how crazy it was. The experience level of the fans, just the commodity about it, the whole process of the game. But it was great.

“You get to pick a few guy brains, and I got to pick his brain a little bit; talk about coverages. Talk about different types of footwork, about things we both can work on. As you see it from a different quarterback, what can you work on? And, you know, it was great.”

Last month, Milton also referred to both Daniels and [autotag]Garrett Nussmeier[/autotag], who was also in attendance, as “great.”

Asked about Milton at SEC media days last week, Daniels also had praise to offer.

“His arm strength is ridiculous,” Daniels said. “That’s what stands out the most. How much zip he has on the ball and his velocity, a very strong arm. Tennessee, he waited after Hendon, he was a great player and a great quarterback.”

Daniels and Milton are seen as potentially the two best quarterbacks in the SEC, with the former earning preseason First Team honors from the media while the latter made the Third Team.

Though they’ll only face on the field in a possible SEC Championship matchup this year, it’s clear they have mutual respect for each other.

Peyton Manning has an illustrative anecdote about Saints QB Derek Carr

Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning has an illustrative anecdote about Saints passer Derek Carr, sharing his excitement on Carr’s ‘second chapter’ in the NFL:

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

It’s not every day you get to hear from a Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback, so when Peyton Manning steps in front of reporters it’s wise to listen. Local media had an opportunity to interview the two-time Super Bowl champ, who would have won three titles if the New Orleans Saints hadn’t taken him down in Super Bowl XLIV, at last week’s Manning Passing Academy.

And some of the questions centered on Saints quarterback Derek Carr, a fit Manning described as “a great marriage.” Manning recalled a conversation with Carr at Raiders training camp that made a strong impression on the Hall of Famer. Carr’s first question centered on a play he witnessed when his older brother David dueled Manning more than a decade earlier.

“We had this game against Houston where I had a play-action where the backside linebacker blitzed and hit me in the back. That was on me,” Manning recounted. “I should have known he was unblocked. And Derek said, ‘Oh, I remember that play. It was on the right hash. It was going in about the 25-yard line, going toward Houston’s locker room.’ I thought, ‘Why would he remember that?’ I remember that. But it tells you he’s got a special memory. He’s got great recall, which I think’s a good sign for a quarterback. He had some good questions for me.”

Manning went on to say that he’s made himself available to Carr as a resource, whether that’s taking him out to his first steak dinner in New Orleans, sharing input on the process of settling in with a new team, or offering advice on how to connect with the community. Manning added, “I get excited for these quarterbacks when they have a chance for a second chapter. It’s rejuvenating for him.”

That’s an experience Manning knows well — he finished the second leg of his pro career with the Denver Broncos, where he eventually won his long-awaited second Super Bowl ring. Maybe Carr has what it takes to bring the Saints their second title now that he’s entering that second chapter of his own.
