Oklahoma Sooners offer 2023 Kansas State commit, tight end Jordan Allen

Oklahoma looks to add another tight end to their class by offering 2023 three-star Jordan Allen. From @thatmanbryant

Even in the midst of the season, Oklahoma is still firmly devoted to finding new members for its 2023 class. Brent Venables made it known when he was first hired that he plans to use every scholarship possible to fill out his recruiting classes with high school talent before using the transfer portal.

Oklahoma continues to look to finish its 2023 class off as strong as possible and has sent out a flurry of offers late to a few players, some of which are committed elsewhere. One of those offers went to three-star Jordan Allen out of Olathe South High School in Olathe, Kansas.

Allen is committed to the Kansas State Wildcats but was offered by Jeff Lebby. Allen is listed as an EDGE On 247Sports but plays tight end as well. With his offer coming from offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, it’s a safe assumption the Sooners want him at tight end.

With the commitment of Malachi Coleman to Nebraska, the Sooners needed to look elsewhere.

At 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, Allen has all the size you could want at the position. With three-star Kade McIntyre as the lone tight-end commit for 2023, it makes sense the Sooners would like to have another. Oklahoma has Kaden Helms and Jason Llewelyn as their only tight ends on the depth chart heading into next year, with Brayden Willis and Daniel Parker both set to depart at the end of the season.

Nebraska keeps top recruit in the state with Malachi Coleman commitment

Lincoln East (Neb.) athlete Malachi Coleman commits to playing college football for Nebraska.

Nebraska is keeping the best prospect in the state to play college ball for the Cornhuskers. On Saturday, Lincoln East’s four-star athlete Malachi Coleman committed to playing for interim coach Mickey Joseph at Nebraska.

Coleman announced the news at a press conference at his school as well as on his Twitter page.

Coleman (6-foot-5, 205 pounds) is ranked fifth in his class at his position, first in the state and No. 79 nationally, according to 247Sports.

Over the last two seasons, he’s totaled 1,000 receiving yards and scored 17 touchdowns. However, he’s not just a productive receiver. Coleman can make an impact in all three phases, putting in time at defensive end and returning kickoffs, as well.

Before his commitment, he had interest from several other power programs, including USC, Georgia, Michigan and Oregon.

Nebraska now has 14 commits for its recruiting class of 2023. Coleman is their highest-ranked commitment and the third four-star prospect in the bunch. The Cornhuskers rank No. 38 nationally in this recruiting cycle.

No. 1 in-state recruit commits to Nebraska

The top in-state recruit has committed to Nebraska

2023 four-star athlete Malachi Coleman has committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Coleman is ranked as the top prospect in the state of Nebraska by 247 Sports, On3, and Rivals. Coleman attends Lincoln East High School.

Coleman’s finalists were Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Michigan, Georgia, Oregon, and USC.

Landing Coleman is a huge win for Nebraska. 247 Sports ranks Coleman as the 67th overall recruit in the 2023 class, which makes him the program’s first top-100 recruit in the class.

Coleman is listed as an athlete, but Mickey Joseph has reportedly recruited Coleman as a wide receiver. At Lincoln East, Coleman flashed potential on both offense and defense. Last season, Coleman had 17 receptions for 561 yards and 10 touchdowns to go along with 57 total tackles and 7.5 sacks, according to MaxPreps.

Oklahoma receives Rivals Futurecast for 2023 4-star prospect Malachi Coleman

Oklahoma’s battle with Nebraska this Saturday will have a little extra spice as top 100 recruit Malachi Coleman will be in the building.

While most of Oklahoma’s recruiting efforts have been finished since August, Oklahoma still has some potentially significant recruiting battles to be won.

One of those battles comes on the offensive side of the ball, where the Sooners look to stack up on playmakers as they continue to reshape and retool the offense in the way offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby wants it. He’s got his sights set on another offensive threat in the form of top 100 freak athlete Malachi Coleman who hails from Nebraska.

Coleman, listed as an athlete, initially profiles as a tight end or wide receiver at the next level for Oklahoma. His athleticism and measurables would make him a matchup nightmare.

He stands 6-foot-5 and just over 200 pounds. He can run and jump and has insane big play ability. If you’re keeping track at home, it fits in Lebby’s penchant for recruiting bigger receivers, a la Nic Anderson, Jayden Gibson, and transfer Javian Hester.

Many scouts believe he could be a prominent edge defender should he choose to go somewhere to play on the defensive side of the football. In short, he’s a must-have target for many schools simply because his ceiling is near limitless. The Sooners are in a neck-and-neck battle with their old foes, the Cornhuskers, for his services, and the game between the two schools this weekend will have a little extra meaning behind it. Coleman will be in Lincoln as two of his top schools battle it out.

Sooners Scoop recruiting editor Josh McCuiston seems to believe he’s seen enough to log a Rivals Futurecast in Oklahoma’s favor.

The insiders at 247Sports seem to believe solely in Nebraska, as the Cornhuskers currently have all of the crystal ball predictions in their favor.

This recruitment seems like it has a few more twists and turns but make no mistake, Oklahoma will keep up the pressure on Coleman. Considering they aren’t recruiting any other offensive players of note in the 2023 class anymore, Coleman would be a substantial cherry on top of a great recruiting class for 2023.

Oklahoma Sooners land commitment from lightning fast WR Anthony Evans

Oklahoma continues its insane recruiting summer as it lands yet another talented four-star player, wide receiver Anthony Evans.

Speed kills. It’s something that simply can’t be taught and some guys are simply difference makers with it no matter their size.

That’s the perfect way to introduce Oklahoma’s newest offensive commit, 2023 wide receiver Anthony Evans.

Evans sent a ripple across the college football recruiting landscape when he picked Oklahoma over the Georgia Bulldogs on Friday evening.

Evans had been widely presumed to be leaning heavily toward Georgia for at least the past month. But mere hours before his commitment predictions from Joey Helmer of 247Sports and the king of college football recruiting news, Steve Wiltfong, raised eyebrows. Helmer put in a prediction for Oklahoma while Wiltfong, who had initially predicted Georgia flipped his pick to Oklahoma.

Evans is a small player but he’s plenty explosive. He stands under six feet and is 167 pounds. The four-star prospect from Converse, Texas, is ranked as the No. 45 wide receiver in the country and the 350th-best player overall by the 247Sports composite.

Evans was offered by Oklahoma on April 15. He visited OU on June 3 and made his official visit to Athens the following weekend before sitting and weighing his options. With his commitment, the Sooners add some electricity to their receiving corps next year. The speedy Evans will pair with another fast wideout, Jaquaize Pettaway.

Offensively, this may be it for Oklahoma barring a commitment from 2023 TE/WR Malachi Coleman or a surprise commit not currently on OU’s radar.

Oklahoma commit Adepoju Adebawore included in 247Sports ‘Freaks List’ for 2023

After recently receiving five-star status, Adepoju Adebawore was included on 247Sports’ 2023 list of the most athletic players in the class.

One of the many trends of the early stages of the Brent Venables era is the desire to add long athletes to the defensive front. In particular, he and defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis are looking for athletes to play off the edge. Adding Kevonte Henry and R Mason Thomas in the 2022 recruiting class got them started and they look like they’ve done it again in 2023.

One of the highest-rated players in their 2023 recruiting class, Adepoju Adebawore, fits that bill. Adebawore recently received five-star recognition ahead of his senior season. He’s a consensus top 100 player and top 10 edge player in the class.

Similarly to Bruce Feldman’s college football “freaks list” over at The Athletic, Andrew Ivins of 247Sports put together his top 50 athletic “freaks” in the 2023 recruiting cycle. Adebawore comes in at No. 5 in the class.

A lot of people reading this list probably wish they had Adepoju “P.J.” Adebawore’s diet as there was a time when he was eating six peanut butter jelly sandwiches a day in hopes of just consuming enough calories to gain weight. The 6-foot-4.5, 225-pound Adebawore is not only blessed with 10-inch hands and a near 85-inch wingspan, but he has an elite testing profile to go along with those features: 4.8 in the 40-yard dash, 4.3 in the short shuttle, 7.3 in the L drill and over 34 inches in the vertical jump. – Ivins, 247Sports

Adebawore will need to add more bulk when he gets on campus, but the Sooners strength and conditioning program will help that. In the meantime, he’s got all the tools to be an elite edge at the college level for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Another player high on the list is uncommitted Sooenrs’ target, Malachi Coleman. Coleman, who plays wide receivers and is one of the best prospects in Nebraska, projects as an elite receiver at the collegiate level. His size and athleticism will create mismatches in the passing game, and if he’s able to add bulk without losing his speed and athleticism, he will be a terror for opposing defenses. Coleman comes in at No. 9 on the list.

At 6-foot-5, 190 pounds, Coleman is essentially a ball of clay, especially when one takes into consideration his track profile (10.46 in the 100-meter dash21.31 in the 200-meter dash and 45-6 in the triple jump) and two-way production (561 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior to go along with 57 tackles and seven sacks). Coleman’s basketball highlights are worth a peep, too. Makes sense as he reports a 41.5-inch vert. The local Cornhuskers are viewed as the team to beat for Coleman, who attends Lincoln East. The three-time USATF All-American also has Michigan, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Georgia, USC and Oregon on his short list of favorites with an Oct. 15th commitment date on the calendar. – Ivins, 247Sports

The Sooners are still in hot pursuit of a commitment from Malachi Coleman but will have to contend with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Coleman won’t commit until October, so Oklahoma has time to make a strong impression.

Unique, high-ceiling football player with outstanding athleticism and physical tools. May need some time to physically and technically develop, but potential is through the roof. Projects as a high-major recruit with the long-term upside to get drafted, possibly in the top half.
