5 ex-Broncos players involved in Super Bowl LVII

Remember former Broncos punter Brett Kern? He’s now aiming to win a Super Bowl with the Eagles.

Five former members of the Denver Broncos will be involved in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday evening.

For the Philadelphia Eagles, punter Brett Kern will have a key role on special teams. Kern started his career with the Broncos in 2008 and played two seasons in Denver before later going on to become a three-time Pro Bowler with the Tennessee Titans.

The Eagles also have three former Broncos on their practice squad: wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland, safety Anthony Harris and cornerback Mac McCain III. Cleveland is a former Denver draft pick who spent time on the Broncos’ practice squad with Harris earlier this season.

McCain signed with Denver as a college free agent in 2021. He bounced between the Broncos and Eagles three times as a rookie and has now settled in on Philly’s practice squad.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, have former Denver running back Melvin Gordon on their practice squad. Gordon played with the Broncos from 2020-2022 before being cut midway through the 2022 season.

Sunday’s Super Bowl will be televised on Fox.

8 potential replacements for Eagles injured cornerback Avonte Maddox

Here are eight players that Philadelphia could consider as potential replacements for an injured Avonte Maddox in the Eagles’ secondary

The Eagles are hurting on both sides of the ball after losing Lane Johnson to injury, and now slot cornerback Avonte Maddox.

One of the best slot cornerbacks in the NFL, Maddox is the engine that makes Philadelphia’s secondary go, and he’s a major reason why Darius Slay and James Bradberry are one of the most talented outside duos in the NFL.

Maddox exited the 40-34 loss after sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott on the first play of the second quarter. Before the slot cornerback could be carted off the field, Dak Prescott was able to connect on a 34-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb after a breakdown in coverage.

Maddox, 26, has played in eight games this season but has missed time with a couple of different injuries.

Eagles sign CB Mac McCain to the practice squad after releasing Anthony Harris

With the Philadelphia Eagles parting ways with Anthony Harris, the team has signed cornerback Mac McCain to the practice squad

The Eagles parted ways with Anthony Harris on Monday, releasing the veteran safety from the practice squad in a mutual decision.

Philadelphia quickly replaced him, signing cornerback Mac McCain to the 16-man squad.

The Eagles waived McCain during the final roster cutdown, and the second-year cornerback is now one of three defensive backs on the practice squad, along with safety Andre Chachere and cornerback Mario Goodrich.

7 Eagles who impressed during the first week of training camp

7 Philadelphia Eagles who impressed during the first week of training camp

The Eagles opened training camp with three intense practices, and one secret walkthrough as the team works to prioritize health leading up to the season opener.

Philadelphia’s defense has looked fast and decisive under Jonathan Gannon, while Nick Sirianni will look to see Jalen Hurts take the next step as a passer.

With the Eagles set to put on the pads Tuesday, here are seven players who impressed during the first week of training camp.

Eagles are really excited about young cornerbacks on the roster opposite Darius Slay

#Eagles head coach Nick #Sirianni gave a vote of confidence to the young cornerbacks currently on the roster #NFLDraft2022

The Eagles have been linked to every top cornerback prospect in the NFL draft, but they’re also pleased with the talent currently on the roster.

During the NFL’s annual owner’s meetings in Florida, Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni addressed the young talent on the roster opposite Darius Slay.

The cornerback spot opposite All Pro Darius Slay is open with Steven Nelson still unsigned, and Philadelphia seems confident about filling the position with a player currently on the roster.

On Tuesday, head coach Nick Sirianni said he was excited to see more development from Zech McPhearson and Tay Gowan at cornerback.

Mac McCain and Kary Vincent Jr. are players to watch as well, but Jonathan Gannon needs a dynamic cornerback opposite Slay and April’s draft presents the perfect opportunity.

The #Philadelphia #Eagles signed 11 players to Reserve/Futures contracts on Tuesday

The Philadelphia Eagles wrapped up their 2021 season, which resulted in a 9-8 record in the NFC East and a postseason playoff berth.

Now the Eagles face an offseason with a ton of questions and a ton of excitement due to their three first-round picks.

Philadelphia signed 11 players that finished the season on their practice squad to reserve/future contracts on Monday. Eight of the 11 players the Eagles signed appeared in at least one regular-season game last year.

Here’s your reserves/futures list.

Broncos made several roster moves this week

The Broncos signed guard Zack Johnson to the practice squad and made several other roster moves.

Mac McCain III’s going to get whiplash soon.

McCain signed with the Denver Broncos as undrafted free agent out of North Carolina A&T in the spring but did not make the initial 53-man roster. McCain then began the season on Denver’s practice squad.

The Philadelphia Eagles later signed McCain off the Broncos’ practice squad to their active roster, only to cut him on Nov. 9. Denver then claimed McCain off waivers from Philly, and then waived him on Nov. 23.

The Eagles re-claimed McCain on Nov. 24, and he can only hope the bumpy ride he’s had this season will now start to settle down.

Denver also activated guard Austin Schlottmann from the Reserve/COVID-19 list and restored outside linebacker Pita Taumoepenu from the Practice Squad/COVID-19 list to the practice squad.

The Broncos also designated inside linebacker Micah Kiser to return from injured reserve. Kiser now has a 21-day window to be activated to the 53-man roster.

Finally, Denver also signed guard Zack Johnson to the practice squad and protected tight end Shaun Beyer and wide receiver Seth Williams on the practice squad. Other teams will not be allowed to poach Beyer or Williams off the Broncos’ practice squad this week.

Eagles claim CB Mac McCain off waivers from the Broncos

Philadelphia Eagles claim cornerback Mac McCain off waivers from the Broncos

A familiar name is returning to Philadelphia, as cornerback Mac McCain was claimed by the Birds off of waivers from the Broncos.

The Eagles had an open roster spot after the team placed linebacker Davion Taylor on Injured Reserve earlier in the day.

A rookie free agent signing of the Broncos out of North Carolina A&T, McCain was initially signed off the Broncos practice squad on September 7.

He made his NFL debut in Week 3 at Dallas where he played 13 snaps on special teams and was claimed by the Broncos just ahead of the Week 10 matchup in Denver.

Broncos make 2 roster moves, activate Noah Fant from Reserve/COVID-19 list

Mac McCain III returns to the Broncos after spending two months with the Eagles.

The Denver Broncos made a pair of roster moves on Wednesday and activated tight end Noah Fant from the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Fant has cleared COVID-19 protocol, but he’ll get a two-day exemption before counting against the 53-man roster later this week.

In addition to welcoming back Fant, the Broncos also welcomed back cornerback Mac McCain III, who was claimed off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday.

McCain (6-0, 175 pounds) signed with Denver as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina A&T in May. He went to training camp with the team this summer and performed well in preseason but did not make the Broncos’ initial 53-man roster.

McCain began the season on Denver’s practice squad before being signed to the Eagles’ active roster on Sept. 7. Philadelphia cut him this week with the hope of bringing him back on its practice squad, but the Broncos were able to add him off waivers. It may or may not be a coincidence that Denver will play against the Eagles this week.

The Broncos also signed cornerback Duke Dawson to their practice squad on Wednesday, one day after waiving him on Tuesday.
