8 potential replacements for Eagles injured cornerback Avonte Maddox

Here are eight players that Philadelphia could consider as potential replacements for an injured Avonte Maddox in the Eagles’ secondary

The Eagles are hurting on both sides of the ball after losing Lane Johnson to injury, and now slot cornerback Avonte Maddox.

One of the best slot cornerbacks in the NFL, Maddox is the engine that makes Philadelphia’s secondary go, and he’s a major reason why Darius Slay and James Bradberry are one of the most talented outside duos in the NFL.

Maddox exited the 40-34 loss after sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott on the first play of the second quarter. Before the slot cornerback could be carted off the field, Dak Prescott was able to connect on a 34-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb after a breakdown in coverage.

Maddox, 26, has played in eight games this season but has missed time with a couple of different injuries.

Raiders add free agent CB Nate Brooks, lose CB Cre’Von LeBlanc to injured reserve

Raiders send CB Cre’Von LeBlanc to IR and add free agent CB Nate Brooks

Next man up sometimes means someone not on the roster currently. And it’s important to keep a full camp roster. Friday the Raiders place CB Cre’Von LeBlanc on injured reserve and replaced him with free agent Nate Brooks.

Brooks was most recently with the Arizona Cardinals. He was released three days ago on August 9th, which means the Raiders scooped him up not long after he cleared waivers.

The fourth year cornerback has appeared in four games in his career, with two starts, both as a rookie in 2019 with the Dolphins. One of those starts came against the Patriots in which he had a pass breakup and three tackles — probably how he got on McDaniels’s radar.

The 25-year-old spent last season on the Titans’ practice squad after spending training camp with the Buccaneers. He also spent time with the Ravens.

The North Texas product entered the league as an undrafted free agent signing by the Cardinals.

Raiders sign CB Cre’von LeBlanc who was most recently on Patriots practice squad

Raiders again reach back to the ex-Patriots with addition of CB Cre’von LeBlanc

With the Raiders’ new head coach and GM both coming over from the Patriots, as well as several of their hires, it’s only fitting that they start adding players from their former team as well. Today the Raiders signed their first outside player since Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels took over and the player’s most recent stop was, of course, New England.

The team added CB Cre’von LeBlanc who a month ago was on the Patriots practice squad.

The sixth-year pro started his career as an undrafted free agent signing by the Patriots out of Florida Atlantic.

Despite his two stints with the Pats, he never played a game for them. LeBlanc has appeared in 52 NFL games with 16 starts, the bulk of which coming with the Bears and Eagles.

LeBlanc spent his first two NFL seasons in Chicago and most of the following three seasons in Philadelphia.

His last game appearance came in 2020 with the Eagles. Last season he bounced around, spending the offseason with the Dolphins, the regular season on the Texans’ practice squad and the postseason on the Patriots’ practice squad. He has two career interceptions — both in ten starts as a rookie with the Bears in 2016 — and 18 career pass breakups.

Patriots sign CB Cre’Von LeBlanc to practice squad

The Patriots signed Cre’Von LeBlanc to their practice squad after he was released by the Texans

The New England Patriots made a familiar addition to their practice squad Tuesday ahead of this weekend’s game against the Buffalo Bills. They signed cornerback Cre’Von LeBlanc to the practice squad after the Texans released him this week.

LeBlanc entered the NFL as a member of the Patriots in 2016, signing with New England after going undrafted out of Florida Atlantic. He never appeared in a regular-season game for the Patriots, failing to make the 53-man roster. He did have a pick-six that year as a member of the Bears, intercepting Matthew Stafford and returning it for a touchdown in Week 14.

LeBlanc didn’t appear in a game this season but played nine games and made one start with the Eagles last season, breaking up two passes and recording one sack.

Texans place 3 more players on COVID-19 reserve

The Houston Texans placed three more players on COVID-19 reserve for Week 15.

The Houston Texans have placed three players on COVID-19 reserve.

Houston will have challenges in the secondary Sunday as they have placed safety Terrence Brooks and cornerback Terrance Mitchell on COVID-19 reserve.

Brooks was already on the injury report with a hamstring injury that kept him out of Wednesday’s practice. Similarly Mitchell did not practice Wednesday with an ankle/knee issue.

Defensive back Cre’von LeBlanc was placed on the COVID-19 practice squad list.

Houston faces the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 15 to close out their season series. The Texans beat the Jaguars in Week 1 37-21 at NRG Stadium. Jacksonville is working through their own issues as they fired Urban Meyer early Thursday morning.
