Talbot has been the most consistent goalie for the Kings this season and his rankings prove that. His record and SO each rank 11th in the league, his SV% is tied for 10th-best, and his 2.5 GAA is the 7th-best. The Kings are 4-2 in his last 6 starts.

Kings at Oilers picks and predictions

Prediction

Oilers 3, Kings 2

Moneyline

BET OILERS (-175).

The Oilers are among the best teams in the NHL and are a real threat to win the Stanley Cup. They are 28-9-4 at home this season, including 3-2 in their last 5. They let their foot off the throttle slightly toward the end of the regular season, but on Monday they will pick up where they left off. They face a Kings team that is 1-3 in their last 4 road games.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

While the Oilers are the better team, the Kings can keep this game within reach. However, Kings +1.5 (-185) holds minimal value to make a wager.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6 (-120).

This series will feature 2 premier goalies along with 2 great defenses. The Kings have a 30-49-3 Over record this season while the Oilers have a 35-43-4 Over record. LA has allowed 3 or fewer goals in 6 of its last 7 while Edmonton has allowed 3 or fewer goals in 7 of its last 9.

Seattle Kraken at Los Angeles Kings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Seattle Kraken at Los Angeles Kings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Seattle Kraken (31-30-13) make the 2nd stop on a 3-game road trip Wednesday against the Los Angeles Kings (38-25-11) at Crypto.com Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Kraken vs. Kings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Tied 1-1

The Kraken doubled up the San Jose Sharks on Monday by a 4-2 score in the Bay Area, winning for the 3rd time in the past 4 games. Those victories have come against teams not currently in the playoff race, however. In the past 12 games, Seattle is 3-7-2 since March 8.

The Kings suffered a 4-3 loss on the road against the Winnipeg Jets, and they’ve dropped the past 3 outings. The Over cashed in that loss, and the total has ended up going high in 5 of the past 7 outings.

Seattle has won 4 of the past 6 meetings since the start of the 2022-23 season, with 4 of the past 5 games decided by a single goal. The Under has cashed in 5 of the past 6 meetings.

  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Kraken at Kings projected goalies

Philipp Grubauer (12-13-2, 2.89 GAA, .898 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Cam Talbot (23-18-6, 2.48 GAA, .915 SV%, 3 SO)

Grubauer allowed just 2 goals on 26 shots in Monday’s 4-2 win in San Jose. He has won the past 2 outings, kicking aside 45 of the 49 shots he has faced. Grubauer has actually been much better on the road, going 6-5-1 with a 2.57 GAA and .912 SV% in 12 starts, while posting a 6-8-1 record, 3.14 GAA and .887 SV% in 17 home outings.

Talbot is the likely backstop for Wednesday’s game. He was tripped up for 4 goals on 32 shots in a 4-3 loss in Winnipeg on Monday, and he has dropped his past 2 starts after a 4-game win streak. He is 1-1-0 with a 1.97 GAA and .918 SV% in 2 outings against Seattle this season.

Kraken at Kings picks and predictions

Prediction

Kings 4, Kraken 2

Moneyline

The Kings (-185) are a little on the pricey side, costing nearly 2 times your potential return. There is plenty of risk, too, as the road team has won 4 straight meetings in this series.

The Kraken (+150) can’t be trusted, however, as Seattle has posted a dismal 3-7-2 mark in the past 12 games, picking up just 8 points out of a possible 24 available.

AVOID.

Puck line/Against the spread

The KINGS -1.5 (+135) are worth a roll of the dice, although play them lightly. Again, 4 of the past 5 meetings in this series have been decided by a single goal.

However, the Kraken +1.5 (-165) are really struggling lately, and Seattle has cobbled together 3 wins in the past 4 games, although it hasn’t beaten a winning team since March 5.

Over/Under

OVER 5.5 (-110) is the lean in this Pacific Division battle.

The Over and Under have alternated in the past 6 games for the Kraken. For the Kings, though, they’re driving this Over train, as the total has gone high in 5 of the past 7 games, averaging 3.6 goals per game (GPG), while allowing 4 goals in each of the past 3 outings.

Kings at Canucks projected goalies

Cam Talbot (22-16-6, 2.43 GAA, .917 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Thatcher Demko (34-13-2, 2.47 GAA, .917 SV%, 5 SO)

Talbot has been the most consistent goaltender for the Kings this season appearing in 45 games. His 2.43 GAA ranks 4th in the NHL this season, while his .917 save percentage (SV%) ties him for 2nd. He is 3-0 with 5 goals allowed on 76 shots for a .934 SV% in his last 3 games.

Demko has not only been the most consistent goaltender for the Canucks this season, but his 34-13-2 record is the 2nd best in the league. He ranks 6th in GAA, is tied for 2nd with Talbot and 3 other goalies for his SV%, and is tied for 3rd with 5 shutouts. He is 3-0 in his last 3 games with just 2 goals allowed on 64 shots for a .969% SV%.

Be warned that G Casey DeSmith might start for the Canucks. He is 11-5-6 with a 2.72 GAA, a .901 SV% with 1 shutout. In his last 3 games, the New Hampshire native is 3-0 with a .915 SV%.

Prediction

Canucks 3, Kings 2

Moneyline

BET CANUCKS (-130).

While L.A. has been on a hot streak recently, its defense fell apart on Saturday giving up 2 goals in the final 5 minutes to tie the game. The Kings have has lost 4 of their last 6 games on the road including 2 of its last 3.

Vancouver has a 24-7-4 home record and has won its last 3 on its home ice. The Canucks are 7-2 in their last 9 games and have given up more than 2 goals just 1 time in that span.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

Against a talented Kings team, the value is better on the Canucks to win outright than by more than a goal.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 5.5 (-110).

Both teams have strong attacks and have been great on offense, however, both also are equipped with 2 of the top goalies in the NHL. L.A. has hit the Under in 5 of its last 8 games and has given up more than 3 goals in just 2 of its last 10 games. Vancouver has failed to hit the Over in 9 of its last 10 games and has given up more than 2 goals just 1 time in its last 9 games.

Minnesota Wild at Los Angeles Kings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Minnesota Wild at Los Angeles Kings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Minnesota Wild (34-27-8) take on the Los Angeles Kings (35-22-11) Wednesday at Crypto.com Arena. Puck drop is set for 10 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Wild vs. Kings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

After running wild on the Anaheim Ducks 4-0 Tuesday night, Minnesota comes up the 5 freeway into Los Angeles. LW Kirill Kaprizov scored his 36th goal of the season in the victory. He has goals in 5 straight games and has 10 goals in 9 games this month. The Wild have won 4 of 5 and sit 3 points out of the final Wild Card spot in the West.

The Kings are holding tightly to their 3rd-place playoff spot in the Pacific. The Vegas Golden Knights are 2 points behind them and sit in the final Wild Card. So there is quite the logjam and potential pitfall in the West. The Kings have cascaded wins and losses in their last 8 games. They’re coming off a 6-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks Thursday night as C Anze Kopitar tickled the twine twice. Say that fast, 10 times.

Wild at Kings projected goalies

Marc-Andre Fleury (16-11-4, 2.67 GAA, .906 SV%, 2 SO) vs. David Rittich (10-5-3, 2.29 GAA, .916%, 2 SO)

“The Flower” has been amazing in March at 4-1-1 with a 1.64 GAA and .936 SV%. He has stopped 147 of 157 shots fired his way. He faced the Kings early in the season and allowed 5 goals on 25 shots, but the 39-year-old is on his game right now.

Rittich is feast or famine. He has 2 shutouts this month, and he has allowed 4+ goals 4 times. He’s 4-3-0 with a 2.68 GAA and .898 SV% in 7 March starts. He has not faced the Wild this year.

Wild at Kings picks and predictions

Prediction

Wild 4, Kings 2

Moneyline

It probably won’t receive the fanfare, but this is the game of the night and maybe the game of the week because these 2 are battling it out for a playoff spot. If the Wild wins, the Kings could fall all the way to the 2nd Wild Card spot where Minnesota and the St. Louis Blues are hovering on the outside looking in.

Fleury and “Kirill the Thrill” are the keys here. Both teams are on back-to-backs, and while the Kings are at home, the Wild are playing much better hockey and are showing the desperation needed to get in the playoffs. Take the WILD +155.

Puck line/Against the spread

Insurance for the Wild is far too expensive, so let’s try to bang out a prop bet. As mentioned, Kaprizov has scored in 5 straight games and has 10 goals in 9 games. He’s the best player on the ice Wednesday, and he’s playing like it. And you’re going to give us +160 for him to score again on Wednesday?

LA has a great defense, but he beat it in the game earlier this season. Take KIRILL KAPRIZOV ANYTIME GOAL +160.

Over/Under

Over! The Kings’ goaltending is far too inconsistent, and quite frankly, I expected to see a 6.5 here. The final score of the last meeting was 7-3, and we’ve had 6+ in 5 of the last 9 meetings.

Take the OVER 5.5 (-115).

Thatcher Demko (31-13-2, 2.55 GAA, .914 SV%, 5 SO) vs. Cam Talbot (18-14-5, 2.46 GAA, .916 SV%, 2 SO)

Demko has been among the premier goaltenders in the NHL this season. His 31-13-2 record is tied for best in the league, while his 5 shutouts are good for 2nd overall. He has allowed 59 goals in his 31 wins this season and 58 goals in his 13 losses. He has struggled recently going 1-5 in his last 6 outings.

Talbot ranks in the top 10 in the NHL in GAA (9th) and SV% (T-7th). He has been the most consistent of L.A.’s 3 goalies this season and is 4-1 in his last 5 appearances. BET KINGS (-110).

L.A. is 7-3 in its last 10 and has won back-to-back games by a combined score of 10-2, including a 5-1 victory at the Canucks Thursday. The Kings are 3-1 in their last 4 home games, while the Canucks are 1-3 in their last 4 on the road. Vancouver is 2-6 in its last 8 games.

Puck line/Against the spread

BET KINGS -1.5 (+210).

Five of the last 6 Canucks losses have been by at least 2 goals. The Canucks have scored 3 or fewer goals in each of their last 6 games and allowed 4 or more in 3 of their last 5.

The Kings have won back-to-back games by 4 goals, and 3 of their last 4 wins have been by at least 2. They have scored 3 or more goals in 5 of their last 9 games while allowing 2 or fewer in 6 of their last 10.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6 (-120).

With top goalies on each side, goals will come at more of a premium Tuesday night. The Kings have failed to hit the Over in 8 of their last 10 games, with more than 6 total goals scored just once over that stretch, while Vancouver has failed to hit the Over in 3 of its last 4 and 4 of its last 6. New Jersey Devils at Los Angeles Kings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s New Jersey Devils at Los Angeles Kings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The New Jersey Devils (30-26-4) take on the Los Angeles Kings (30-19-10) Sunday at Crypto.com Arena. Puck drop is set for 3:30 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Devils vs. Kings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Devils can’t find a rhythm as they’ve cascaded wins and losses over the last 5 games. Their latest was a 4-3 setback in Anaheim as -296 favorites Friday. C Jack Hughes netted his 20th goal with an assist. He has scored in 2 straight. They remain 8 points out of a Wild Card spot.

The Kings hold the 2nd Wild Card spot in the West, 2 points behind the surging Nashville Predators for the top spot. They upended the top-seeded Vancouver Canucks 5-1 Thursday to cap a 3-game road trip they went 1-2 on. RD Drew Doughty netted his 14th goal to go with 2 assists. He has points in 3 of 4 games. His 14 goals are the most he has had since 2015-16, and he’s 2 off of his career high.

Devils at Kings projected goalies

Nico Daws (8-9-0, 3.33 GAA, .892 SV%) vs. David Rittich (9-4-3, 2.32 GAA, .914 SV%, 1 SO)

Daws was between the pipes for the Friday loss in Anaheim. He only stopped 10 of 14 before being pulled near the end of the 2nd period. He went 5-3-0 with a 3.02 GAA and .899 SV% in 8 starts. One of those was a 2-1 loss to these Kings Feb. 15, stopping 27 of 29.

Rittich was last in goal Monday for a 4-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers. He stopped 27 of 31 to end the month on a sour note after he really solidified a messy tendy situation in January. He went 4-3-0 with a 2.68 GAA and .898 SV% last month. He was between the pipes in the Feb. 17 2-1 win over Jersey, stopping 26 of 27.

Devils at Kings picks and predictions

Prediction

Devils 4, Kings 3

Moneyline

The Kings are skating without 1 of their best players in C Adrian Kempe, who is out with an upper-body injury. The Kings have won just 2 of 5, but they have the Calgary Flames and St. Louis Blues just 5 points behind them for that playoff spot.

One important thing to consider, the Devils should actually be more acclimated than LA. Jersey has been on the West Coast since its Wednesday game against San Jose, whereas the Kings are coming off a “tour de Canada.” I don’t like Jersey’s tendy situation, which makes this a toss-up. But I like their offense much better than the Kings’, and they won the last meeting in LA.

Take a shot at DEVILS +110.

Puck line/Against the spread

If you’re on board with the away team, I was a little surprised to see DEVILS ML + OVER 4.5 TOTAL GOALS (+155) at such a good price. Outside of the last meeting, we had 5+ goals in 4 straight matchups.

Over/Under

Jersey is 5-5 O/U over its last 10, and the Kings are 3-6-1. The Over has cashed in 2 of the last 3 matchups. I’m about 50-50 here, with my rationale the fact that Jersey is tied for 7th with 3.35 goals per game, despite missing star players on offense at different points of the season. It’s healthy on that front, but the tendy situation is no bueno.

Stick with the Devs/Over 4.5 proposition and PASS here.

The Los Angeles Kings (4-2-2) kick off a 4-game road trip against the Toronto Maple Leafs (5-2-1) Tuesday at Scotiabank Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Kings vs. Maple Leafs odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Kings are coming off a 4-3 shootout loss at home against the Golden Knights Saturday. Los Angeles has allowed 3 or more goals in 5 straight games, and 7 of 8 outings so far, cashing the Over at a 7-1 clip this season. On the road, the Over has hit in 2 of 3 contests this season.

The Maple Leafs are coming off a 3-2 OT loss in Nashville against the Predators on Saturday night, cashing the Under yet again. The total has gone low at a 5-0-1 clip in the past 6 games overall. Cam Talbot (3-2-1, 2.72 GAA, .905 SV%) vs. Joseph Woll (3-1-0, 1.33 GAA, .961 SV%)

Talbot is expected to get the starting nod between the pipes. He kicked aside 27 of the 30 shots he faced in a 4-3 shootout loss against the Golden Knights on Saturday. He has made 1 start against an Eastern Conference team, allowing 4 goals on 25 shots in a 4-2 loss against the Boston Bruins at home on Oct. 21.

Woll is confirmed to start Tuesday. He has won 3 consecutive games, including 2 starts and a relief appearance in Tampa on Oct. 21. He has allowed just 2 goals on 97 shots in the past 3 games he has appeared. Woll lost his only start at home, stopping 27 of 30 shots in a 4-1 setback to the Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 16 in his first appearance of the season.

Kings at Maple Leafs picks and predictions

Prediction

Maple Leafs 5, Kings 3

Moneyline

The MAPLE LEAFS (-152) are a decent play at home as moderate favorites. Woll has steadied the ship in the blue ice for the Leafs, although it will be interesting to see how Toronto performs at home. It won a wild 6-5 shootout against the Canadiens to start, before that loss to the Blackhawks in Woll’s 1st appearance.

The Kings (+126) are 3-0 on the road this season, but they lost their only 2 previous appearances against Eastern Conference teams, losing in a shootout to Carolina at home on Oct. 14, while getting doubled up by Boston on Oct. 21.

Puck line/Against the spread

The MAPLE LEAFS -1.5 (+155) are worth playing lightly on the puck line.

Toronto handled itself well on the road trip, although this play comes with plenty of risk. As a favorite, Toronto has posted 4 wins in 7 tries, but it has cashed on the puck line on just 2 occasions.

The Kings +1.5 (-188) are 2-3 in 5 games as an underdog straight up, while covering the puck line in 3 of those games.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-134) is a little pricey, but worth it.

The Kings have hit the Over in 10 of the past 11 games overall dating back to last season, but going 6-2 in the past 8 on the road, and 12-5 in the past 17 against Eastern Conference teams.

The Under is 12-3-1 in the past 16 games overall for the Leafs dating back to last season, although the Over-Under is 1-1 in 2 games on home ice so far.

Based on the numbers for Los Angeles, go high, but play this lightly.

Vegas Golden Knights at Los Angeles Kings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Los Angeles Kings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Vegas Golden Knights (7-0-1) travel to meet the Los Angeles Kings (4-2-1) Saturday at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Golden Knights vs. Kings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Golden Knights opened the season with 7 consecutive victories, but Vegas suffered a 4-3 OT loss Friday, which also coincided with Nevada Day. The Over has cashed in 3 of the past 4 games for VGK after the total went low in the first 4 outings of the season.

The Kings swept a home-and-home set with the Arizona Coyotes, rebounding from a 4-2 loss on home ice against the Boston Bruins last Saturday. The Over has been on fire for Los Angeles, cashing in 4 in a row, and 6 of 7 games overall.

Golden Knights at Kings projected goalies

Logan Thompson (3-0-0, 2.00 GAA, .933 SV%) vs. Cam Talbot (3-2-0, 2.70 GAA, .906 SV%)

Thompson is expected to get the nod after Adin Hill started Friday’s home game against the Blackhawks. Thompson, an All-Star last season, ended the season on injured reserve, and Hill took over as the star in the playoffs. Thompson is healthy again, and resembling that All-Star form again. However, he was 1-2-0 with a 3.41 GAA and .877 SV% in 3 starts against the Kings last season.

Talbot came on in relief Friday in Arizona, turning aside 17 of the 18 shots he faced to pick up the victory despite not starting. He has won 2 of his past 3 starts, although he has lost both of his 2 home appearances. However, he faced the Boston Bruins and Colorado Avalanche in those 2 outings, a couple of the better teams in the NHL.

Golden Knights at Kings picks and predictions

Prediction

Kings 4, Golden Knights 3

Moneyline

The KINGS (-110) are a decent play on home ice, looking to hand the Golden Knights (-110) their first setback in regulation this season.

VGK is a dismal 1-5 in the past 6 tries playing on no rest, while the Kings have picked up 4 consecutive wins on the 2nd end of a back-to-back situation.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Golden Knights +1.5 (-250) will cost you 2 1/2 times your potential return if you would like some insurance, and just don’t want to play Vegas straight up.

That’s too much risk for not enough reward. Playing the underdog catching a goal-and-a-half rarely works out, and a late empty-net goal can ruin a night.

AVOID.

Over/Under

OVER 6 (-120) is decent play after falling from 6.5 Saturday morning.

While the Under is 5-1-1 in the past 7 games for the Golden Knights when playing on no rest, the Over has cashed in 4 straight for the Kings. The Over is also a perfect 6-0 for Los Angeles in the past 6 on home ice, while going 7-1 in the past 8 inside the division dating back to last season.

The Over is 18-7-2 in the past 27 meetings in this series, too, while going 5-1 in the previous 6 encounters in L.A.

Los Angeles Kings at Winnipeg Jets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Los Angeles Kings at Winnipeg Jets odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Los Angeles Kings (0-1-1) and Winnipeg Jets (1-1-0) meet Tuesday at Canada Life Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Kings vs. Jets odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Kings opened the season with a dismal 5-2 loss against the Colorado Avalanche, while suffering a wild 6-5 shootout loss against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Los Angeles has struggled on defense and on goaltending, with the Over cashing in each outing.

The Jets have been in a similar boat, falling 5-3 in the opener against the Calgary Flames on the road, while winning a wild 6-4 matinee skate with the Florida Panthers Saturday. That’s 9 goals scored, and 9 goals allowed. Defense hasn’t been a hallmark for either of these teams.

Kings at Jets odds

  • Moneyline (ML): Kings +110 (bet $100 to win $110) | Jets -130 (bet $130 to win $100)
  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Kings +1.5 (-225) | Jets -1.5 (+180)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Kings at Jets projected goalies

Cam Talbot (0-1-0, 4.02 GAA, .889 SV%) vs. Connor Hellebuyck (1-1-0, 4.07 GAA, .852 SV%)

Talbot was inked to replace the departed Joonas Korpisalo, who was brought in at the trade deadline for a bump. Talbot allowed 4 goals on 36 shots against the Avalanche in the opener, while Pheonix Copley started against the Hurricanes. Neither has been very good in the first two outings.

Hellebuyck hasn’t been sharp to date, allowing 4 goals in each of his outings. He’ll get better, and he was much sharper against the Panthers at home on Saturday with 29 saves on 33 shots. He was 1-1-0 with a 3.93 GAA and .890 SV% in 2 starts against the Kings last season, so we might get more of the same.

Kings at Jets picks and predictions

Prediction

Kings 5, Jets 3

Moneyline

The KINGS (+110) are a solid value on the road. The Kings won 2 of the 3 regular-season meetings in 2022-23, including the past 2 outings. That includes a 6-5 shootout win in the only battle in Winnipeg last season.

The Jets (-130) have dropped 5 straight games against the Western Conference, and 5 in a row against the Pacific Division, dating back to last season.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Kings +1.5 (-225) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return, and that’s just too much. If you like Los Angeles, just play it straight up instead.

AVOID.

Over/Under

The best play on the board is the OVER 6.5 (-105).

While the head-to-head trends might suggest otherwise, considering the Under is 5-2 in the past 7 meetings in Winnipeg, and 10 of the past 13 meetings overall, both of these teams have struggled at the defensive end.

Both teams have cashed the Over in each of their outings, with Winnipeg averaging 4.5 goals per game (GPG), while allowing 4.5 GPG. Los Angeles is averaging 3.5 GPG, and 5.5 GPG. The PA announcer in Winnipeg better be ready to announce plenty of goals.

Carolina Hurricanes at Los Angeles Kings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Los Angeles Kings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Carolina Hurricanes (1-0-0) and the Los Angeles Kings (0-1-0) meet Saturday at Crypto.com Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Hurricanes vs. Kings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Hurricanes head west for the start of a 6-game West Coast road trip. Carolina usually has a lengthy road trip to start each season due to the North Carolina State Fair taking place near PNC Arena, using part of the parking lot, while creating tons of traffic.

Carolina does generally open at home, and it did so Wednesday against the Ottawa Senators. It wasn’t pretty, but the Hurricanes outlasted the Sens 5-3. There was a lot of undisciplined play, with silly penalties and defensive gaffes, but it was also just game No. 1, too. Those things can be ironed out, and hey, the Canes still won.

The Kings weren’t as fortunate, falling 5-2 on home ice against the Colorado Avalanche. Cam Talbot was snowed under for 4 goals on 36 shots, while the Los Angeles offense could only muster even-strength goals from Carl Grundstrom and Quinton Byfield.

Hurricanes at Kings projected goalies

Antti Raanta (19-3-3, 2.23 GAA, .910 SV%, 4 SO – 2022-23) vs. Cam Talbot (17-14-2, 2.93 GAA, .898 SV%, 1 SO – 2022-23 w/ Ottawa)

Raanta is projected to get the start after Frederik Andersen allowed 3 goals on 30 shots in the team’s win against the Sens. With a 6-game road trip, including a back-to-back set with a game Sunday in Anaheim, Raanta will make a start, and Andersen will get the other start in SoCal.

Talbot was signed as a free agent, spending last season with the Ottawa Senators. The 36-year-old allowed 4 goals on 36 shots in an Opening Night loss to the Avalanche Wednesday. He made 1 start against Carolina last year, allowing 3 goals on 29 shots in a 4-0 loss.

Hurricanes at Kings picks and predictions

Prediction

Hurricanes 4, Kings 3

Moneyline

The HURRICANES (-130) are slight favorites in this road trip opener, and for good reason. Carolina has won 7 straight games against the Kings (+110), including the past 3 skates at Crypto.com Arena.

While Carolina tends to have trouble with that other Southern California team, the Ducks, it has handled itself with aplomb when it comes to facing the Kings. The Canes have outscored the Kings 29-12 during the 7-game win streak, including a pair of shutouts.

Puck line/Against the spread

The way the Hurricanes -1.5 (+185) struggled against the Senators, you can’t lay the goal-and-a-half with the visitors. Of course, the Kings +1.5 (-225) were hot garbage against the Avs, and you won’t want to risk more than 2 times your potential return for a little insurance, either.

AVOID.

Over/Under

OVER 6 (-110) is worth playing, but go lightly.

The Hurricanes ran 7 deep on defense in the opener, and between arguably the top defensive corps in the NHL, and 2 solid tendies, Carolina won’t allow many goals like Wednesday’s performance. Expect Rod Brind’Amour to get his group tightened up soon.

Both of these teams cashed the Over in their respective openers, however. Until the defense is better on both sides, keep hitting the Over. Plus, the Over has cashed in the past 4 meetings in this series.
