Four-star WR Johntay Cook II to visit Texas in March

Cook will join an already impressive group of recruits to visit Austin.

Johntay Cook II is one of Texas’ top targets in the class of 2023. The Desoto wide receiver named Texas as one of his top seven schools and will be on campus for a visit in late March.

Inside Texas reports that Cook will join his buddies Arch Manning and Reuben Owens in Austin on March 26th. The trio has expressed interest in playing together at the next level, Texas remains in the mix with all three.

247Sports composite rates Cook as the No. 6 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 6 overall player in the state of Texas. Chris Singletary of 247Sports believes Cook has a high ceiling at the next level.

This 2-sport athlete who also competes in track and field, still has some growth left within his skills and overall game. Putting up very good numbers as a junior where he accounted for 38 catches and 806 yards for a 21.2 ypc average as well as 19 touchdowns. By his production you understand that he is a threat anytime he is on the field. Being a starter once he gets to college as well as a all-conference performer and goals that he can definitely achieve.

Texas offers four-star EDGE Desmond Umeozulu from Maryland

Desmond is the cousin of Texas offensive line signee Neto Umeozulu and top 2024 target Zina Umeozulu.

Texas went to the east coast to offer 2023 four-star edge rusher Desmond Umeozulu on Monday afternoon.

That last name should sound familiar to Longhorn fans. Desmond is the cousin of Texas offensive line signee Neto Umeozulu and top 2024 target Zina Umeozulu.

247Sports composite ranks Desmond as the No. 4 player in the state of Maryland and a top 300 prospect nationally.

Colleges all over the country love his upside as a player. He has picked up over 33 offers from big name programs such as Georgia, Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio State and now Texas.

Umeozulu has a very projectable 6-foot-6, 230-pound frame that should play well at the next level. He helped lead C.H. Flowers High School to an impressive 11-2 season and a state semifinal appearance in his junior year.

Five reasons why Texas is a perfect fit for Arch Manning

Arch Manning to Texas would make tons of sense for both sides.

Five-star quarterback Arch Manning has superstar written all over him. From his last name to his on-the-field talent, Manning has become the biggest name in the 2023 class and his recruitment is starting to heat up.

Many experts believe Texas has been in good standing with Manning for quite some time now. Despite the 5-7 season and the addition of former five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers, Texas is still one of the front runners to land Manning.

The timetable for Manning’s commitment remains unclear, but it seems he is narrowing his focus on a couple of college football bluebloods.

A report from ESPN’s Brent Bearid stated the Manning sweepstakes was down to two schools, Texas and Alabama.

Manning to Texas would make lots of sense for both sides, and the Longhorns are certainly going all out in pursuit of Manning.

Here is a look at five reasons Arch would be a perfect fit at Texas:

Five-star LB Anthony Hill releases his top six schools

Texas makes the cut for one of the top players in the 2023 class.

One of the top prospects in the 2023 recruiting class, five-star linebacker Anthony Hill, announced the final six schools left in his recruitment on Monday.

Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, Oklahoma, Miami and USC all made the cut for the state of Texas’ top linebacker prospect.

247Sports ranks Hill as the No. 2 player in Texas and No. 9 overall. Recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks had glowing remarks about Hill in his scouting report:

Capable of consistent sideline-to-sideline pursuit with proven blitzing ability. Tone-setter for an FBS-loaded Texas 5A D-I state championship defense as only a sophomore. Produced good numbers despite playing on a unit with a lot of mouths to feed, so to speak. Adequate in-space athleticism in coverage but at his best playing downhill. Owns valuable offensive reps as a short-yardage battering ram with the ball. Shows promising pass-rush instincts despite primary role being off-ball. Main question is position in the long term, but physical tools suggest highest ceiling as an edge player. Regardless, one of the most dynamic defensive prospects in Texas and the country for his class through the 2020 season. Projects as an impact high-major starter with long-term early-round NFL Draft potential.

Adding a player as talented as Hill would be a massive get of any school in the country. Texas has built a bit of a pipeline through Denton Ryan high school that could give them an advantage in his recruitment.

HOOKED: Texas lands commitment from 2024 DB Aeryn Hampton

#SarkAfterDark strikes again!

Texas struck again with a late night commitment, adding Aeryn Hampton to their 2024 recruiting class just after midnight.

Hampton is a player many teams in the Big 12 have interest in. The east Texas product chose the Longhorns over offers from the likes of Baylor, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.

The do-it-all player was a force on both sides of the ball during his sophomore season at Daingerfield. Hampton tallied over 1300 yards and 18 touchdowns on offense playing both wide receiver and running back. He also excelled as a defensive back where he snagged nine interceptions including five pick-sixes.

Hampton joins fellow defensive back Jaden Allen as the lone commits of the 2024 class.

It is a long way until Hampton officially signs, but landing a commitment from a talent like him is a major victory for Texas’ staff.

Where the Longhorns 2022 class ranks among the last decade for Texas

Steve Sarkisian’s first full recruiting class is one of the best Texas has signed over the past ten years.

Texas capped off the 2022 recruiting cycle with a bang on Wednesday as five-star offensive lineman Devon Campbell signed with the Horns.

Cambell was the final piece of the puzzle to Texas’ No. 5 overall class.

Steve Sarkisian did a great job using both the transfer portal and high school ranks to address the needs on the roster.

Quarterback Quinn Ewers (Ohio State) was brought in along with wide receiver Isaiah Neyor (Wyoming) and tight end Jahleel Billingsley (Alabama) to provide immediate help to the offense.

The focus of the high school recruiting was adding talent to the trenches on both sides of the ball. Texas signed 16 guys to help them on the line of scrimmage including five-star offensive lineman Devon Campbell and Kelvin Banks.

Texas has been remarkably consistent in the recruiting rankings over the past ten years. Even with all the losing seasons and coaching changes, Texas never had a class ranked outside of the top 25 nationally.

Here is where Texas 2022 class ranks among Texas’ last 10 signing classes:

Twitter reacts to five-star OL Devon Campbell signing with Texas

At 6-foot-3, 310-pounds, Campbell is one of the top athletes in the country. He has the ability to block downfield and is an exceptional basketball player. Texas can look forward to watching plays like this during Campbell’s time at Texas:

Campbell joins an already impressive offensive line haul. Texas signed seven talented linemen including two five-stars in Campbell and Kelvin Banks.

Kyle Flood earned his paycheck in this recruiting cycle. Before this class, Texas has not landed a five-star offensive lineman since way back in 2009.

Campbell’s announcement sparked lots of excitement on social media among Longhorn players and fans:

Where Devon Campbell ranks among Texas offensive line signees since 2000

Talents like Devon Campbell are difficult to come by.

Texas made a huge splash in the second signing period landing five-star offensive lineman Devon Campbell over rival Oklahoma.

The importance of landing a player of Campbell’s pedigree can not be understated. He is the type of talent who could be anchor on the offensive line for the next 3-4 years. Something Texas has been desperately missing for a long time.

Offensive line coach Kyle Flood has built one of the nation’s elite offensive line classes. The Horns locked up seven talented big men, headlined by five-stars Campbell and Kelvin Banks.

The Campbell and Banks duo marks the first time Texas has signed two five-star offensive linemen since 2009. Needless to say, the future of Texas’ offensive line is in great shape.

Campbell instantly becomes the highest-rated player in Texas’ No. 5 ranked recruiting class and will have the chance to make an early impact on the Texas offense.
