Doug Pederson hosts dinner for Jaguars legends, 2023 rookies

John Henderson, Kevin Hardy, Kyle Brady, and 12 other former Jaguars players had dinner with the 2023 draftees.

Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Pederson hosted a “Rookies and Legends Dinner” this week, connecting the team’s newest members with some of its all-time greats.

Photos from the event show fourth-round pick Tyler Lacy chatting with the Jaguars’ former defensive tackles John Henderson and Marcus Stroud, second-round pick Brenton Strange chopping it up with former tight end Kyle Brady, and former pass rusher Jason Babin talking with fifth-round pick Yasir Abdullah.

The full list of former players who attended the dinner is as follows (years with the Jaguars):

  • Jason Babin, defensive end (2012-2013)
  • Kyle Bosworth, linebacker (2011-2012)
  • Kyle Brady, tight end (1999-2006)
  • Don Davey, defensive tackle (1995-1997)
  • Ryan Davis, defensive end (2012-2015)
  • Kevin Hardy, linebacker (1996-2001)
  • John Henderson, defensive tackle (2002-2009)
  • Mike Hollis, kicker (1995-2001)
  • Greg Huntington, offensive lineman (1995-1996)
  • Damon Jones, tight end (1997-2001)
  • Rashad Lawrence, wide receiver (2015-2016)
  • Lonnie Marts, linebacker (1999-2000)
  • Demetrius McCray, cornerback (2013-2015)
  • Micah Ross, wide receiver (2001-2003)
  • Marcus Stroud, defensive tackle (2001-2007)

While the Jaguars are still one of the youngest franchises in the NFL, after nearly three decades in the league, the team has amassed a lengthy list of talented alumni. Taking advantage of that and building pride in the legacy of former Jaguars players is something long overdue in Jacksonville.

Tom Zbikowski – Future Notre Dame coach?

An extremely candid interview with one of Notre Dame’s all-time favorites

Could one of the most beloved and most celebrated players in recent Notre Dame history be on the path to one day coaching under the golden dome? If everything goes according to plan, the answer would appear to be yes for [autotag]Tom Zbikowski[/autotag].

If you’re a certain age, which I am, you will recall the stardom Zbikowski brought to Notre Dame, especially from the 2004-2006 seasons. Not only was he an outstanding boxer away from the football field, but he was an All-American safety and one of the best punt returners Notre Dame has ever had.

Zbikowski, who keeps a fairly low profile these days, joined his former teammate Mike Goolsby on “The Mike Goolsby Show” on Sunday night.  During the roughly hour long discussion some very interesting things were brought up, including the former Irish stars discussing their biggest rivals, spilling some beans on a former head coach’s love for PowerPoint presentations, memories of the big upset at Tennessee in 2004, thoughts on name, image and likeness and plenty more.

It’s worth checking out in full, but worth noting is that Zbikowski recently interviewed for the special teams coordinator position at Western Michigan.  Zbikowski spent this past season serving as a volunteer defensive analyst for the Broncos. The former Notre Dame star admits he doesn’t follow the Irish too closely these days, but he has been impressed from what he’s seen and heard of Marcus Freeman from afar. He also added that he’d like to help improve Notre Dame’s punt return game one day.

It’s the work of Goolsby and his co-host Mike Singer at Blue and Gold Illustrated, so I don’t want to give away everything that’s discussed but instead want to encourage you to check it out. If you were a big follower of Notre Dame football for the first five or six years of the 2000s then it’s certainly worth an hour of your time.

In the meantime, check out some of the best photos of Zbikowski’s time at Notre Dame below:

Happy Birthday to Two Longhorn Legends

Jordan Shipley and Quan Cosby shared the field to make one of the best receiving cores in UT history. They also share the same birthday.

Not only did Jordan Shipley and Quan Cosby share the field to make up one of the greatest receiving cores in Longhorn history, but they also share the same birthday. Cosby turns 37 years old today, while Shipley turns 32.

The two player’s best season came in 2008 with potential Hall of Fame quarterback Colt McCoy. Cosby led the team in receptions and receiving yards, while Shipley had more touchdowns. Between the two of them, they had a combined 181 receptions, 2,183 receiving yards, and 21 touchdowns in 2008.

One of Shipley’s best moments at Texas came in the 2008 Red River Shootout. Down 11 early in the second quarter, Shipley returned a kick off for a touchdown, giving the Longhorns a spark in the game. Texas went on to win 45-35, securing their third victory over Oklahoma in four years.

After Texas was left out of the Big 12 and National Championship later in the 2008 season, they were set up with Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl. Losing 21-17 and driving with under 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Cosby came up huge for the Longhorns. Running across the middle of the field from the slot, McCoy found Cosby, who broke free and dove into the end zone to secure another BCS bowl victory for Texas.

Both had short careers in the NFL and are now retired. Both Cosby and Shipley are in the top five in career receptions, career receiving yards and career receiving touchdowns at Texas. Two of the best to ever do it for the Longhorns, we wish both of them a very happy birthday!

5 Chiefs defensive linemen, linebackers named finalists for ‘NFL 100 All-Time Team’

The NFL has announced finalists at the defensive line and linebacker positions for the “NFL 100 All-Time team,” and five Kansas City Chiefs legends are among them.

The NFL has released its list of finalists at the defensive line and linebacker positions for the “NFL 100 All-Time Team.”

A 26-person panel made up of coaches, front office executives, former players and NFL media have been hard at work since 2018, narrowing down the best 100 players of all-time in NFL history. It’s part of the NFL’s celebration of its 100th season.

Over a six week period, the best 100 players of all-time will be revealed during a show occurring on Fridays on NFL Network. The reveal shows are hosted by Rich Eisen along with Chris Collinsworth and Bill Belichick. They also plan to have some special guests along the way.

The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t have any players during the first reveal at the running back position, however, they have five players among the finalists at the defensive line and linebacker position. Chiefs legends Bobby Bell, Willie Lanier, Derrick Thomas, Curley Culp and Buck Buchanan are among the finalists for this group. Each of these players has been selected for both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Chiefs’ Hall of Fame. From competing for  Super Bowl championships to individual accomplishments they’re all among the greatest to have ever played the game at their respective positions.

Be sure to tune in to NFL Network on Friday at 7:00 p.m. CT, where they’ll announce the players who’ve been selected at the defensive line and linebacker positions to “NFL 100 All-Time Team.” There we’ll get to see if any of these Chiefs’ legends made the final cut, and with such a star-studded cast of players, it’s hard to imagine that at least one of them won’t be selected for this honor.
