Former Warrior JaVale McGee advances to NBA Finals with Lakers

After the Lakers game five win over the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals, former Warrior JaVale McGee will advance to the NBA Finals.

Although Golden State’s streak of five consecutive appearances in the NBA Finals is over, a former Warrior will have a chance at bringing home a banner from the Orlando Bubble.

With the Los Angeles Lakers 117-107 victory over the Denver Nuggets in game five of the Western Conference Finals, LeBron James, Anthony Davis and a former Golden State big man will advance to the NBA Finals.

After appearing in the 2017 and 2018 Finals with the Warriors, JaVale McGee will suit up at center for the Lakers in the 2020 edition of the league’s championship series.

In the Lakers’ game five win, McGee logged only two minutes off the bench with a rebound. After starting in the first three games of the series, Frank Vogel opted to bring McGee off the bench in games four and five.

With McGee playing in a limited role, James closed out the Lakers with his 27th postseason triple-double. The four-time Most Valuable Player tallied 38 points on 15-of-25 shooting from the field with 16 rebounds and 10 assists.

Despite an impressive run throughout the playoffs from Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets couldn’t parlay another 3-1 comeback in the Western Conference Finals.

The Lakers will wait for the Eastern Conference Finals winner between the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics. If the Heat can eliminate the Celtics, McGee will matchup with his former Golden State teammate Andre Iguodala in the 2020 NBA Finals.

Former Warrior JaVale McGee records four blocks in Lakers vs. Trail Blazers Game 4

In game four of the Lakers series against the Blazers, former Warrior JaVale McGee tallied eight points and eight boards in 14 minutes.

For the first time since 2012, the Golden State Warriors are on the outside of the Western Conference’s playoff dance. With the league’s worst record at 15-50, the Warriors became one of the first squads eliminated from playoff contention.

With no hoops on the calendar in the Bay Area, Warriors Wire is checking in with former members of Golden State inside the Orlando Bubble.

On Monday, a former member of Golden State’s championship run laced up for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Portland Trail Blazers. In game four of the first-round series, JaVale McGee tallied eight points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field with eight boards.

Throughout the series against the Blazers, McGee has been active on the glass, grabbing at least eight rebounds in three of the four games.

In the Lakers’ special “Mamba” black uniforms, McGee contributed on the defensive end with four blocks in 14 minutes. McGee’s four swats against Portland were the most blocks he’s recorded since entering the Orlando Bubble.

Klay Thompson reacts to being passed by LeBron James on NBA playoff 3-pointers made list

After LeBron James passed Klay Thompson on the all-time playoff 3-pointers made list, the Golden State Warriors guard chimed in on Instagram.

In the third contest of the Los Angeles Lakers Western Conference playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers, LeBron James tallied 38 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field.

The three-time Most Valuable Player added 12 boards, eight assists and two steals in 34 minutes. In route to the Lakers 116-108 victory against Bubble MVP Damian Lillard, James moved up a notch on the NBA’s all-time playoff 3-pointers made list.

After James splashed 4-of-8 shots from beyond the arc in game three, the NBA shared a post on Instagram to celebrate his milestone.

Via @NBA on Instagram:

With his slide up the long-distance playoff list, James jumped a member of the Golden State Warriors. As James moved up, Klay Thompson moved down to No. 4 on the list, with 374 made 3-pointers.

Thompson chimed in on the NBA’s Instagram with a message for James.

Via @TheWarriorsTalk on Twitter:

Despite his move past Thompson, James commented he has a “strong hunch” the Splash Brother will pass him on the list in the 2021 edition of the playoffs.

In game four against the Blazers, James added to his 3-point total, drilling 4-of-5 jumpers from beyond the arc. With 30 points and 10 assists from James, Los Angeles moved to a 3-1 series lead over Portland.

Via @BleacherReport on Twitter:

With the postseason still in its early stages, James will continue to have the opportunity to stretch his lead over Thompson. However, he will need a flurry of 3-pointers to chase down the other Splash Brother. With 470 3-pointers, Steph Curry sits at the top spot on the all-time postseason list.

Eric Paschall crowns his favorite play from his rookie season with the Warriors

After a bevy of impressive moments in his first season with the Warriors, Eric Paschall revealed his favorite play from his rookie campaign.

With the Golden State Warriors season officially over, the team is counting down some of the top moments from the 2019-20 season on Twitter. On Saturday, Eric Paschall was the focal point.

After being drafted in the second round, the Villanova product quickly developed into one of Steve Kerr’s lead options in the Golden State offense. In his first season in the Bay Area, Paschall averaged 14.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. The Warriors rookie ranked in the top 10 in both points and rebounds per game for 2019-20 rookies.

The Warriors counted down Paschall’s top plays from his rookie year. High powered dunks and blocks filled the 23-year-old’s list. However, according to the rookie, his favorite play was a drive against a four-time Most Valuable Player.

Paschall paired a series of crossovers with a burst to the basket for a finger roll layup over LeBron James. On Twitter, Paschall crowned his moment against James and the Lakers as his “favorite play of the year.”

Paschall’s highlight-worthy drive came during the Warriors trip to Southern California in November 2019. Against James and the Lakers, Paschall tallied 15 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field with three rebounds in 32 minutes off the bench. James led the Lakers with 23 points on their way to a blowout victory against the Warriors, 120-94.

In an interview with Howard Beck of Bleacher Report from June, Paschall shared said “Welcome to the NBA” moment came against James and Anthony Davis.

Warriors vs. Cavs listed in Bleacher Report’s ‘Biggest Rivalries of Every NBA Decade’

After facing off in four consecutive NBA Finals, the Warriors vs. Cavaliers earned a spot in Bleacher Report’s ‘Biggest Rivalries of Every NBA Decade.’

While it doesn’t have the fame of the Boston Celtics versus the Los Angeles Lakers or the Chicago Bulls against the New York Knicks, the Golden State Warriors built a steady rivalry with one Eastern Conference foe. After becoming the first NBA team to meet in four consecutive Finals, it’s fair to say the Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers held a memorable rivalry.

From 2015 to 2018, the Warriors faced off with the LeBron James led Cavs in the NBA Championship. Golden State bested Cleveland in three of the four Finals. To start the rivalry, the darling Golden State Warriors cemented their place at the top of the NBA pyramid with a win over Cleveland in the 2015 Finals.

In 2016, Cleveland put together a historic run to the title against a record-breaking Golden State squad. After blitzing to a 73-9 regular season campaign, the Warriors jumped out to a 3-1 lead against the Cavaliers in the Finals. James and Kyrie Irving stormed back to an improbable comeback in seven games to fuel the rivalry.

Adding more firepower to the clash, Golden State went on to add Kevin Durant alongside Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala. With Durant on board, the Warriors went on to win back-to-back championships against Cleveland.

According to Bleacher Report, the Warriors battles against the Cavaliers ranked as the biggest rivalry of the 2010 decade.

Via @BleacherReport on Twitter:

Golden State’s feud with James Harden and the Houston Rockets were also considered in Bleacher Report’s rivalry rankings. When it came to individual contests, the matchups of James against Durant and Curry versus Kawhi Leonard made the cut.

With Curry and Thompson on the road back to the court and James linked alongside Anthony Davis in Los Angeles, Golden State could work their way towards another rivalry with a team led by the King.

LeBron James says Steph Curry would be ‘GREAT!!!’ in any era of NBA basketball

LeBron James chimed in on an Instagram post saying Stephen Curry would be “GREAT!!!” in any era of NBA basketball.

With the recent success of ESPN’s “The Last Dance,” debates have waged on regarding Michael Jordan’s era of basketball versus today’s game. The 10-part series followed Jordan’s rise to multiple championship runs with the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s.

The Golden State Warriors’ two-time Most Valuable Player was the latest to be spun into the debate.

Alongside an image on Instagram of Stephen Curry laying up a shot over Hakeem Olajuwon, Mars Reel asked, “How good would Steph be if he had played in the ’90s?”

One of Curry’s longtime adversaries chimed in on the post. LeBron James commented that Curry would be “GREAT!!!” in any era of the NBA.

After sharing a bevy of memorable battles in four consecutive trips to the NBA Finals, the pair of MVPs have been complimentary of each other on social media. When Curry made his long-awaited return from injury in early March, James praised the Golden State point guard on Twitter saying, “the game missed you.”

After James shared an image of the new Space Jam 2 logo, Curry reacted on the Los Angeles Lakers forward’s Instagram, calling the new emblem “dope.”

With Golden State slated to be one of the eight teams set to miss the league’s restart in Orlando, James and Curry will have to wait till next season to link up on the court again.
