Toronto Maple Leafs at Tampa Bay Lightning odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Tampa Bay Lightning sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

The Toronto Maple Leafs (32-23-8) head down to the Suncoast of Florida to battle the Tampa Bay Lightning (40-17-5) Tuesday at the Amalie Arena at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Maple Leafs-Lightning sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Maple Leafs at Lightning: Projected starting goalies

Frederik Andersen vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy

Andersen heads into this one with a 25-13-6 record, 2.98 goals against average and .906 save percentage with two shutouts. He is coming off an ultra-embarrassing loss Saturday night to the Carolina Hurricanes, who had to use an emergency goalie. Yes, Andersen was bested by a 42-year-old Zamboni driver, David Ayres, who just happens to serve as a practice goalie for the Leafs on occasion.

The defending Vezina Trophy champ Vasilevskiy has posted a 32-11-3 record, 2.58 GAA and .916 SV% with two shutouts. He allowed three goals on 28 shots in a 7-3 win at Toronto back on Oct. 10 in his first meeting with the Leafs. The Lightning went out and added D Zach Bogosian to help out in front of the goalie, too, while also adding some grit in the form of F Barclay Goodrow.

Prediction

Lightning 5, Maple Leafs 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Lightning (-189) are a little too rich for my blood, as this is just above the threshold of what I like to risk. The Maple Leafs (+155) are a tempting play, as you have to figure they’ll be a bit angry after their embarrassing loss, right? Well, they don’t seem to be playing with a lot of urgency lately, so look to the home side on the puck line. AVOID a ML play.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Lightning to win returns a profit of $5.29, while a $10 wager on the Maple Leafs results in a profit of $15.50.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The LIGHTNING (-1.5, +135) is a nice value given the state of the Maple Leafs (+1.5, -162) right now. Toronto has dropped four of five against winning teams, while Tampa is a whopping 13-3 in its past 16 against winning sides. The ‘Ning have also dominated their Atlantic Division rivals from Hogtown, going 6-1 in the past seven meetings overall and 8-3 in the past 11 at Amalie.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (-110) is worth a small-unit wager. Andersen has been a sieve lately, and he is likely to struggle against Tampa Bay’s high-octane offense. The Over has connected in seven of the past nine roadies for Toronto, while going 5-2 in their past seven against winning teams. The Over is 4-0 in Tampa’s past four, too, and 16-6-3 in the past 25 in their barn.

Carolina Hurricanes at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Toronto Maple Leafs sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Carolina Hurricanes (34-22-4) and Toronto Maple Leafs (32-22-8) will lock horns at Scotiabank Arena at 7 p.m. ET Saturday. We analyze the Hurricanes-Maple Leafs sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Hurricanes at Maple Leafs: Projected starting goalies

James Reimer vs. Frederik Andersen

Reimer is expected to get the starting nod after Petr Mrazek started (and lost) at home against the New York Rangers in the front end of the back-to-back Friday. Optimus Reim has posted a 14-6-2 record, 2.67 goals against average and .914 save percentage through his 23 starts and one relief appearance. He was tuned up for four goals on just seven shots Dec. 23 in Toronto in the first meeting against his former team, an 8-6 loss.

Andersen is a solid 25-12-6 with a 2.91 GAA and .908 SV% across his 46 starts. While he allowed six goals in the Dec. 23 meeting with the ‘Canes, he stopped 34 shots en route to an 8-6 victory. He is coming off a shutout win against the Pittsburgh Penguins Thursday, a win which slapped the brakes on a personal three-game skid.

Hurricanes at Maple Leafs: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 8:15 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Hurricanes 4, Maple Leafs 3

Moneyline (ML)

The HURRICANES (+135) have been able to bounce back after losses, and they’re in good shape with a 4-1 record in their past five in the second game of a back-to-back. The road team has also won seven of the past 10 meetings in this series. The Maple Leafs (-162), on the other hand, have posted a 2-5 mark in their past seven games against Eastern Conference opponents, while going 0-4 in their past four following a win.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Hurricanes (+1.5, -200) are not worth the insurance, as you will need to risk two times your return. The Maple Leafs (-1.5, +165) are a much more attractive play if you like the home side. I don’t, however. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (+125) is worth a small-unit bet, hitting in five of the past seven meetings in this series. The Over is also 8-2 in Carolina’s past 10 overall, and 6-2 in its past eight against winning teams. Toronto has played to the Under in five of its past seven, but the Over is 14-3 in the past 17 against Metropolitan Division teams, while going 9-4 in the past 13 playing on a day of rest.

New Jersey Devils at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s New Jersey Devils at Toronto Maple Leafs sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

The New Jersey Devils (17-21-7) and Toronto Maple Leafs (24-16-6) will tangle at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Devils-Maple Leafs sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Devils at Maple Leafs: Projected starting goalies

Louis Domingue vs. Frederik Andersen

It’s hard to imagine that the Devils get away from Domingue, who has posted consecutive victories against the Washington Capitals on the road and the Tampa Bay Lightning at home, snapping their 10-game winning streak. In three appearances in January he has a 2-0-0 record, 1.24 goals against average and a .959 save percentage in his two starts and three appearances. If Mackenzie Blackwood is in the crease, he’ll bring a 1-2-1 record with a 3.88 GAA and .891 SV% in four January starts.

Andersen is 21-8-5 with a 2.82 GAA and a .912 SV%, but the All-Star has struggled in the month of January. He has allowed three or more goals in each of his four outings this month, including four goals on just 12 shots in Florida Sunday before being pulled early in the second period.

Devils at Maple Leafs: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 10:35 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Maple Leafs 5, Devils 3

Moneyline (ML)

The Maple Leafs (-278) are too expensive, especially the way Andersen has been tending net recently. If anything, the Devils (+220) are worth a roll of the dice, as they’ve been giant killers lately. Still, the best idea is to AVOID.

New to sports betting? Every $10 wagered on the Devils ML will profit $22 if they win.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The MAPLE LEAFS (-1.5, +105) are a little better than even money laying the goal and a half, so if you are feeling a Toronto resurgence following its beatdown in Florida, by all means this is the way to go. I don’t love it, but I’d play a small-unit wager on the home side considering the Devils are 0-4 in the past four meetings, and 1-5 in the past six trips to Toronto.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (+100) is where it’s at, going 8-3-3 in the previous 14 meetings in this series. The Over is also 4-1 in Toronto’s past five at home, 4-1 in the past five as a favorite and 7-1 in the previous eight against Metropolitan Division foes.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Florida Panthers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Sunday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Florida Panthers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Toronto Maple Leafs (24-15-6) and Florida Panthers (23-16-5) lock horns at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. at 7 p.m. ET Sunday. We analyze the Maple Leafs-Panthers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Maple Leafs at Panthers: Projected starting goalies

Frederik Andersen vs. Chris Driedger

The all-star Andersen heads into this one with a 21-8-5 record, 2.74 goals against average and .914 save percentage with a shutout this season. He hasn’t faced the Panthers in 2019-20, but he was 2-0-1 with a 3.29 GAA and .895 save percentage in three appearances vs. Florida last season.

Driedger has started to carve into Sergei Bobrovsky‘s playing time lately, as the huge free-agent has had some issues with consistency that the team hopes will be ironed out by a little more rest. Driedger is 4-2-0 with a 2.16 GAA and .935 save percentage with a shutout, as he has came out of nowhere to eat into the highly-paid Bobrovsky’s workload while sending top prospect Sam Montembeault back to the minors.

Maple Leafs at Panthers: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 11:40 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Maple Leafs 5, Panthers 3

Moneyline (ML)

The MAPLE LEAFS (-121) are a strong play with the Andersen in the crease against Driedger. Yes, the latter has been playing well, but he isn’t on the same level as Freddie. The only concern is the Panthers have won five straight home games against the Leafs, so go lightly, although the favorite is 5-2 in the past seven meetings.

New to sports betting? Every $10 wagered on the Maple Leafs ML will profit $8.26 if they win in regulation, overtime or a shootout.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The MAPLE LEAFS (-1.5, +220) are a tempting play at this price level, only because you can double your money if they win by 2 or more goals. I’d go really, really lightly here.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 7.5 (+165) is an interesting play. Both teams have been rather challenged defensively, and you can get some decent plus-money playing this line. The Over is 4-1 in the past five head-to-head meetings while going 6-2 in Toronto’s past eight overall and 25-10-2 in Florida’s past 37 on home ice. The ‘regular’ total is OVER 6.5 (-110), if you want to play it a little safer.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Detroit Red Wings sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Toronto Maple Leafs (11-10-4) and Detroit Red Wings (7-16-3) hook up in an Original Six renewal of acquaintances Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET at Little Caesars Arena in Hockeytown. We analyze the Maple Leafs-Red Wings sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Maple Leafs at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

Frederik Andersen vs. Jimmy Howard

Andersen carries an 11-5-2 mark, 2.68 goals against average and .916 save percentage into battle. One of those wins came at LCA back on Oct. 12 when the Danish tendie stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced in a 5-2 victory.

Howard was on the receiving end of the 5-2 beating back on Oct. 12, coughing up four goals on 40 shots. One of those goals allowed went to Maple Leafs C Alexander Kerfoot, but Howard needn’t worry about the ex-Avalanche pivot, as Kerfoot is suspended for this one.

Maple Leafs at Red Wings: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 3:25 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Maple Leafs 4, Red Wings 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Maple Leafs (-209) are heavy favorites in this one, but they simply cannot be trusted at this price point. Yes, they have shown some jump under new bench boss Sheldon Keefe, winning two in a row at Arizona and at Colorado, but they’re still too risky even against the cellar-dwelling Red Wings (+170). Look to the puck line instead.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The MAPLE LEAFS (-1.5, +135) are anything but a sure thing. However, if you’re looking for value, the Leafs catching plus-money to win by two or more goals is the spot. They outscored the Coyotes and Avalanche 8-4 in two games under Keefe, winning each game by two goals. Those who bet only the moneyline in the past two outings left money on the table.

Over/Under (O/U)

The line on the UNDER 6.5 (-139) is slightly inflated. The Leafs are still without Mitch Marner (ankle), and Andersen has been a beacon of hope for the Leafs. The Red Wings have a strong offense with a bright future, but they have had their hands full with the Leafs. The Under is 9-3-1 in the past 13 meetings in Detroit, too. This won’t be a defensive slog, but won’t be mistaken as fire wagon hockey, either.
