Tennessee soccer ties UCLA to extend unbeaten streak.

Tennessee (3-1-2) and No. 7 UCLA (5-1-1) played to a, 0-0, draw Thursday at Regal Soccer Stadium.

Tennessee’s tie against the Bruins extended the Lady Vols’ unbeaten streak to four games. Tennessee has also shut out four consecutive opponents. The Lady Vols’ match Sunday at Duke was canceled due to inclement weather.

Thursday’s match also marked the first time the Lady Vols have shut out a top 10 opponent since 2021.

The Bruins outshot Tennessee, 16-7, while the Lady Vols recorded six shots land on goal. UCLA totaled five of its scoring opportunities land on target.

The Bruins outshot Tennessee, 11-4, in the second half and had five corner kicks in the match. The Lady Vols finished the game with nine corner kicks.

Tennessee goalkeeper Ally Zazzara recorded five saves in the match.

Macaira Midgley totaled four shots on goal for the Lady Vols, while Reese MatternSarah Bridenstine and Muriel Kroflin recorded one shot on goal each.

UCLA goalkeeper Ryan Campbell totaled six saves.

Former Lady Vols’ results against Caitlin Clark, Fever

Results for two former Lady Vols against the Indiana Fever in the WNBA.

Indiana (18-16) defeated Los Angeles (7-26), 93-86, on Wednesday in the WNBA. The game was contested at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Two former Lady Vols played in Wednesday’s matchup.

Rickea Jackson started at forward for the Sarks and played 24 minutes. She recorded five points and two rebounds.

Rae Burrell also played 23 minutes for Los Angeles. She totaled 16 points, three assists, two rebounds, two steals and one block.

Caitlin Clark recorded a triple-double, totaling 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, for the Fever. She also recorded three steals in 40 minutes.

Los Angeles has lost nine of its last 10 contests, including two consecutive defeats. The Sparks will next play Friday against the Sky and rookie Angel Reese in Chicago, Illinois.

Mercedes Russell recorded two points, three rebounds, and one block in 11 minutes for Seattle. She converted 1-of-2 field goal attempts.

Minnesota defeated Chicago, 79-74, at Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Diamond DeShields totaled six points, two rebounds and one block in 13 minutes for the Sky. Isabelle Harrison also played four minutes for Chicago and committed one turnover.

Atlanta defeated Los Angeles, 80-62, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.

Tennessee sets attendance record versus Penn State

Tennessee sets Food City attendance record versus Penn State.

No. 7 Penn State (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten) defeated No. 15 Tennessee (0-1, 0-0 SEC), 22-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-20, Friday at Food City Center in the season opener for both schools.

The match was played before a record crowd of 6,193 fans, breaking a previous record of 3,376 that witnessed the Lady Vols’ match against Kentucky on Oct. 27, 2021.

Tennessee committed 23 attacking errors against Penn State.

Freshman outside hitter Paityn Chapman led the Lady Vols with 12 kills and also recorded two blocks.

Junior outside hitter Hayden Kubik totaled 11 kills and nine digs, while graduate transfer Nina Cajic, who previously played for Townson, recorded 10 kills, six digs and two assists.

Setter and redshirt sophomore Caroline Kerr recorded a sixth double-double of her collegiate career, totaling 38 assists and 11 digs.

Horston, a member of the 2023 WNBA All-Rookie Team, converted 2-of-4 field goal attempts and 2-of-2 free throw attempts.

Mercedes Russell recorded eight points, one rebound, one assist and one steal in 17 minutes for Seattle.

She converted 4-of-7 field goal attempts.

Russell played for the Lady Vols from 2013-18 for head coach Holly Warlick.

She was selected by New York (No. 22 overall) in the 2018 WNBA draft.

Lady Vols shut out Lipscomb soccer

Tennessee soccer records third win of the season after defeating Lipscomb on Sunday.

Tennessee (3-1) defeated Lipscomb (1-1-1) on Sunday at Regal Soccer Stadium.

Ally Brown and Kate Runyon scored goals in the Lady Vols’ shutout win. Tennessee led, 1-0, after an own goal by Lipscomb in the sixth minute.

Runyon scored in the 27th minute and Luciana Latino was credited with an assist. Brown’s goal took place in the 51st minute and was assisted by Sarah Bridenstine.

11 of Tennessee’s 21 shots were on goal, while Lipscomb recorded six shots (two on goal) in the in-state match.

Goalkeepers Ally Zazzara and Cayden Norris recorded one save each for Tennessee.

Tennessee will next play Duke on Sept. 1. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. EDT in Durham, North Carolina.

Reese Mattern scores first goal at Tennessee

Freshman Reese Mattern scores first goal at Tennessee in the Lady Vols’ win at East Tennessee State.

Tennessee (2-1) defeated East Tennessee State (1-2), 1-0, on Thursday at Summers-Taylor Stadium in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Tennessee scored in the 64th minute on a goal by Reese Mattern. Macaira Midgley and Sammi Woods were each credited with an assist.

Tennessee outshot East Tennessee State, 14-4, in the match. The Lady Vols had five scoring chances land on goal, while Tennessee goalkeeper Ally Zarzzara recorded her second shutout of the season, while not having to record a save.

Thursday’s match marked the first time Tennessee held an opponent to zero shots on goal since accomplishing the feat against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 10, 2023.

The Lady Vols now lead the all time series against East Tennessee State, 9-0.

Tennessee will next play Sunday against Lipscomb at Regal Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. EDT.

Aubrey Leach named director of player development for Lady Vols

Karen Weekly names former Lady Vol Aubrey Leach director of player development.

Tennessee softball head coach Karen Weekly announced the addition of Aubrey Leach to her staff Wednesday.

Leach, a former Lady Vol, will serve as the director of player development at Tennessee.

She has served as a volunteer assistant at Tennessee for the last three seasons, while pursuing a juris doctor. During Leach’s time as a graduate assistant, the Lady Vols three SEC championships, including two regular-season titles and a tournament championship. The Lady Vols also advanced to the Women’s College World Series in 2023.

Leach played for the Lady Vols from 2016-19 and finished her collegiate career as the program’s all-time leader in runs (253) and walks (162). She also ranked second in on-base percentage (.503).

In 2019, Leach signed a professional contract with Scrap Pitch Fast Pitch. She spent the last five years playing with Athletes Unlimited.
