XFL Week 4 TV guide: Schedule, streams, point spreads

All you need to know about Week 4 in the XFL.

Through three weeks of the XFL season, only one undefeated team remains – and the 3-0 Houston Roughnecks will face their toughest test of the year so far as they travel to Dallas for a potential playoff preview against quarterback Landry Jones and the Renegades.

Roughnecks quarterback P.J. Walker leads all players in the MVP race with 10 passing touchdowns through three games, but the Renegades have been much improved since Jones returned to the starting lineup. Elsewhere in the league, the DC Defenders will try to rebound from a blowout loss against the 0-3 Tampa Bay Vipers, and the LA Wildcats will try to get back to .500 on the road in New York.

This XFL coach had the most impressive reaction to getting a cold Gatorade bath

Winston Moss isn’t concerned with cold fluids being dropped on him.

The Los Angeles Wildcats got their first win in franchise history on Sunday as they rolled over the D.C. Defenders, 39-9, in the final game of Week 3 of the XFL season.

The Wildcats celebrated the win in the final moments of the game by doing what football teams have been doing for years – dumping the Gatorade bucket on their coach, Winston Moss.

And man was his reaction absolutely priceless.

We’re used to seeing coaches maybe be stunned by having a ton of ice-cold fluids dumped over their heads. Some might run away by instinct after being surprised by the bath.

But not Moss. Look at how he handled it:

No reaction at all! Like, absolutely nothing! Zero! Cold water be damned!

Moss, a former linebacker who played 11 years in the NFL, has quickly become the coolest coach in the XFL. Just look at this from last week:

Maybe now LA is ready to get some more wins for this guy.

WATCH! Mr. Excitement Martez Carter does insane flip into end zone for TD

Martez Carter, Mr. Excitement, did an amazing flip into the end zone on a touchdown for the LA Wildcats.

The Los Angeles Wildcats flipped their script from the first two games Sunday. And running back Martez Carter celebrated their turnaround with a forward flip as he went into the end zone to give LA a 33-3 lead in the third quarter.

Carter took a short pass from Josh Johnson and did he rest of the work on the 18-yard play.

He had promised sideline reporter Jenny Taft he would do a flip — a backflip — if he scored again and rather than waiting to get to the sideline, Mr. Excitement took off and landed in the end zone.

WATCH! Wildcats’ Tre McBride catches 2 TD passes against team that traded him

The DC Defenders traded Tre McBride in January. In February, the WIldcats’ WR caught 2 TD passes against them.

Tre McBride of the Los Angeles Wildcats had a big first half Sunday against the DC Defenders. That would be considered payback since DC traded their second-round pick West for WR Rashad Ross in January.

McBride caught two TD passes from Josh Johnson as the Wildcats roared to a 20-0 lead over the Defenders, who came into the game in Carson, Ca, undefeated in their first two games … both at home.

5 bold predictions for Week 3 of the XFL season

The XFL heads into Week 3 and Tampa Bay and LA both need victories.

The XFL heads into Week 3 and in this short season it is a make-or-break time for the LA Wildcats and Tampa Bay Vipers, who are both looking for their first victory.

The Wildcats are in deep trouble

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

After an 0-2 start, the last team the LA Wildcats need to be facing are Pep Hamilton’s DC Defenders. Pepper Johnson was released after the first week as defensive coordinator. Winston Moss is looking at an 0-3 start and the Wildcats’ season could be finished before a month is out.

Week Two: Longhorns in the XFL

The XFL was back on the field for week two. Former Longhorns Cedric Reed, Patrick Vahe, Jerrod Heard and Kent Perkins all in action.

The XFL was back for week two of the 2020 rebirth season. Cedric Reed and Patrick Vahe of the Los Angels Wildcats faced off against Jerrod Heard and the Dallas Renegades. Vahe didn’t have a tipped pass caught for a reception in this game.

Heard wouldn’t catch a pass in this game and didn’t return a punt in this game. It was all quiet for the former quarterback turned receiver in the second game of his XFL career. Cedric Reed on the other hand, had more of an impact.

Reed got to the quarterback a couple times in this game with a quarterback hit and sack. It was quite reminiscent of his Longhorn days, seeing Reed bring down a former Sooners quarterback in Landry. Reed finished with three combined tackles, one sack, one qb hit and one tackle for loss. The Wildcats fell to the Renegades 25-18.

Kent Perkins and the St Louis Battlehawks lost to the Houston Roughnecks 28-24.

XFL LA Wildcats fire defensive coordinator Pepper Johnson after first game

LA Wildcats coach Winston Moss fired DC Pepper Johnson after his XFL team lost its first game.

Pepper Johnson can always tell his former boss and mentor Bill Belichick that his XFL coaching career lasted one more game than the eight-time Super Bowl winner’s time as head coach of the New York Jets.

The defensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Wildcats was fired Monday, two days after the team made its XFL debut in a 37-17 loss to the Houston Roughnecks.

Johnson played linebacker on Giants teams that had Belichick as its DC for Super Bowl XXI and XXV. He also earned rings as an assistant coach under Belichick on Patriots teams that won Super Bowls XXXVI, XXXVIII, and XXXIX.

The Wildcats also released LB Anthony Johnson

Of course, there was reaction to the news:

Week One: Longhorns In The XFL

Week one of the XFL is now in the books. Here are how the former Texas Longhorns fared in their first game of the season.

Football is back after a long five day layoff following the Super Bowl last weekend. The XFL rebirth kicked off on Saturday with their first two games and followed that with the final two on Sunday. Four former Texas Longhorns players took part in the first XFL season since the league folded in 2001.

There were no Longhorns in the initial game of the XFL season between Seattle and DC. However, in the second game between the Los Angeles Wildcats and Houston Roughnecks featured two former Texas players.

  • Cedric Reed: One tackle
  • Patrick Vahe: One reception on a tipped passed that went for five yards.

In the first game on Sunday, neither team had a former Longhorn when the Tampa Bay Vipers traveled to New York to face the Guardians. The final game between the St Louis Battlehawks and the Dallas Renegades saw two former Texas players facing either other.

  • Kent Perkins: started at left guard for St Louis.
  • Jerrod Heard: One punt return for 16 yards

Who is PJ Walker, QB who starred for the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks?

The XFL’s first day saw Houston Roughnecks quarterback PJ Walker put on a rousing performance.

Look out Deshaun Watson, there’s another quarterback in Houston.

That might be overstepping things but PJ Walker of the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks had a debut game that would make the Texans’ star proud.

Walker, who played college football at Temple, threw for 272 yards and 4 touchdowns in the Roughnecks’ 37-17 victory over the Los Angeles Wildcats Saturday. He also rushed for 27 yards and ran in a two-point conversion.

Walker, who was 23-of-39 with an interception, had four touchdown passes in the first three quarters of the win.

Easy to see now how Walker beat out for Michigan State star Connor Cook for the starting job under veteran and well-traveled head coach June Jones, an offensive wizard.

Jones said he remembered Walker from a game when Temple throttled SMU, 60-40, in 2015. Walker had four touchdown passes and a scoring run of his own in that game. That Friday night, Walker had 268 yards passing and 49 yards rushing.

Walker played at Temple from 2013-16. He threw for 10,668 yards and 74 touchdowns as an Owl.

On May 3, 2017, Walker was signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent. He was waived that September and was signed to the Colts’ practice squad the next day. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Colts on Jan. 1, 2018. On Sept. 1, Walker was waived by the Colts and was signed to the practice squad the next day. He spent time on and off the Colts’ practice squad before being released on Dec, 26, but was re-signed three days later. He signed another reserve/future contract on Jan. 13, 2019. On Aug. 31, Walker was waived by the Colts and signed to the practice squad the next day, only to be released two days later.

A former Colts teammate expected big things.

He was not a secret to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who called the XFL office to ask if they could sign Walker for one week ahead of their matchup with the Baltimore Ravens in October 2019, as Walker was a similar player to Lamar Jackson. The XFL blocked the signing, as Walker was already under contract with the league.

Walker has a great mantra on his Twitter account: Hard work beats Talent, When Talent don’t Work Hard!!
