Watch: XFL Wildcats come up big after coach Winston Moss’ gamble

Winston Moss of the LA Wildcats took a risk and wound up with a huge reward in the XFL.

Winston Moss was not safe for television after he tried to fire up his LA Wildcats Saturday against the New York Guardians at halftime.

Following, the expletive-laced pep talk, Moss decided to take a huge risk and go for it on fourth-and-two from the Wildcats’ 28 in the third quarter trailing 14-6.

A 31-yard pass interference penalty kept the drive going and a play later Josh Johnson found Saeed Blacknall, who played at Penn State, with a 42-yard pass for a score. The two-point conversion worked and the game was tied at 14.

A piece of Moss’ halftime motivation:

After an 0-2 start, the last team the LA Wildcats need to be facing are Pep Hamilton’s DC Defenders. Pepper Johnson was released after the first week as defensive coordinator. Winston Moss is looking at an 0-3 start and the Wildcats’ season could be finished before a month is out.

7 things we learned in Week 2 of the XFL

The future is bright for Greg Olsen, Pep Hamilton, P.J. Walker and Cardale Jones.

The XFL is through two weeks, there has been some good, bad, and, of course, ugly.

McGloin may not be built for this league

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Matt McGloin taking on anyone and everyone around the New York Guardians may have made for great television. However, it did show the quarterback has brought an NFL attitude to the XFL. And that doesn’t work. Hard to believe Kevin Gilbride will want to keep him around. For sure, Winston Moss of the LA Wildcats would have shipped him out. In general, with a few exceptions, quarterback is the weakest position in the league.

Bob Stoops avoids 0-2 start as Renegades rush past Wildcats

The Dallas Renegades’ offense got in gear in the second half and downed the Los Angeles Wildcats.

It wasn’t pretty. In fact, it was pretty ugly. The Dallas Renegades’ offense found itself in the second half Sunday and they downed the Los Angeles Wildcats, 25-18.

The victory was the first for Dallas and dropped LA to 0-2. Renegades coach Bob Stoops was never 0-2 in his 18 years at Oklahoma. He was 1-2 with the Sooners in 2005 and ’16. The Renegades will look to avoid that happen in the XFL when they visit Seattle in Week 3.

Dallas outgained LA, 444-256. A big chunk of the yardage came from Cameron Artis-Payne, who rushed for 99 yards on 14 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns. The second TD run was a 17-yarder that gave Dallas a 25-18 lead with 3:31 left, the final score in the contest.

Landry Jones showed some rust in the first half but rebound after the break and finished 28-of-40 for 305 yards with a TD pass and two picks. Jones becomes the first XFL QB to crack the 300-yard mark.

Thirty-four of the game’s points came in the fourth quarter.
