Four-star linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa chooses another Midwest power over Ohio Sate

OSU swung hard and missed on this one, but we wish the kid nothing but the best. #GoBucks

Things looked good for Ohio State and its chances of landing its biggest remaining target at linebacker for the 2024 class, but in the end, the Buckeyes missed out.

Out of St. John Boso in Bellflower, California, Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa chose Notre Dame instead of Ohio State on Sunday despite many signs pointing to the Buckeyes perhaps being in the lead for his services. At 6-foot, 3-inches, and 230 pounds, Viliamu-Asa is ranked as the No. 8 linebacker and 102nd overall prospect in the 2024 class. Besides the Buckeyes and Irish, the other school in the running was USC.

Based on quotes from the talented linebacker, the choice of Notre Dame was the best of what he wanted from academics, football, and spiritual life, and it’s hard to fault the kid for doing what he felt was best for him.

Missing out on Viliamu-Asa means the Buckeyes will have to decide whether to stay pat with the two linebackers it has committed in the class with Garrett Stover and Payton Pierce, or look elsewhere to round out that position group.

Count us a bit shocked on this one because it sure looked like he’d be wearing the scarlet and gray.

Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa didn’t want either Big Ten school; he wanted Notre Dame

Life in the #B1G for USC: Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa’s choice specifically went against two Big Ten schools, not just one.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are a long-established Big Ten college football program. Next year, USC will become a brand-new Big Ten program. One of the more interesting aspects of 2024 college football recruiting is how new conference affiliations affect (if at all) the choices recruits make.

Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa’s choice of Notre Dame over Ohio State and USC is newsworthy in and of itself, but the new shape of the Big Ten is part of the subtext.

In the past, a USC-Ohio State-Notre Dame recruiting battle would have meant that Viliamu-Asa was choosing among three conference affiliations: Pac-12, Big Ten, and independent. Relative to the 2024 cycle and the 2024 college football season, a USC-OSU-ND choice is a choice involving two Big Ten schools and Notre Dame.

KVA chose the one school not attached to the Big Ten.

None of this means KVA chose Notre Dame because they weren’t part of the Big Ten, but let’s acknowledge the point that if two schools in the same conference recruit a player, and there’s a third option outside that conference, going to that third school saves the player from picking one conference team over another.

Did the discomfort of playing on one side of a USC-Ohio State Big Ten game affect KVA’s calculus? We might never fully know, but it’s certainly an interesting question to think about in the wake of Sunday’s decision.

2024 four-star LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa picks Notre Dame over USC, Ohio State

KVA Day ended with the St. John Bosco linebacker picking @IrishWireND over #USC and Ohio State.

The USC Trojans had a tremendous month of June in the 2024 college football recruiting cycle. Their month of July basically ran out of fireworks after Independence Day.

Another July recruiting announcement brought forth another loss for USC. Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, a four-star 2024 linebacker from St. John Bosco in the Trojans’ back yard, chose to go to Notre Dame over USC and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

We’re not going to sugarcoat this one, because there is no sugar-coating a recruiting loss to Notre Dame. It is also notable that USC has struggled to keep a lot of St. John Bosco prospects home in Los Angeles. The big hope connected to the Viliamu-Asa recruitment, beyond making future USC defenses a lot better, is that it would have increased the odds that the Trojans and Lincoln Riley could fortify their Bosco pipeline into the USC program in the future. Now, that dream — that very important goal — takes a big hit.

This is a huge win for Marcus Freeman as Notre Dame’s head coach. It’s also a setback for an Ohio State program whose defense needs significant reinforcements for defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, whose unit struggled in big games last season versus Michigan and Georgia.

Rumors regarding Ohio State and Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa ahead of his decision tomorrow

What will KVA do tomorrow? #GoBucks

One of [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] top remaining targets for their 2024 recruiting class is California linebacker [autotag]Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa[/autotag].

The 6-foot, 3-inch, 230 pound ‘backer is set to make his decision tomorrow with three schools still in the running: Notre Dame, USC, and the Buckeyes. This recruitment is coming down to the wire and the No. 8 ranked linebacker and 102nd overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings could conceivably pick any of his three finalists.

Each school has its advantages, the Trojans have proximity, the Irish have a great mix of athletics and academics and the Buckeyes have program prestige and development of players — to name a few reasons.

Let’s take a look at all what some insiders believe Viliamu-Asa will do tomorrow.

Scouting Report: four-star LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa

Sunday is the big day for KVA.

Four-star linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa is set to announce his decision Sunday on the 247Sports YouTube channel.

The Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco star cut his list of schools to three last month with Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC making the final cut.

Viliamu-Asa officially visited each of his final three choices in June. He went to USC first and then went to Notre Dame and Ohio State in back-to-back weeks.

Notable details on Kyngstonn: He is a smart, instinctive, physical linebacker who will produce consistently as a tackler. His biggest strengths are his mind, tackling ability, and mobility. He moves well laterally with great speed and is a flexible defender, which allows him to contort his body and make difficult tackles.

His leadership abilities are clear. He is a great communicator who takes control of a defense and gets his teammates into the correct position where everyone can do their job.

If he uses his physicality with the mindset of dominating his competition, he’s a guy who can come in and start right away at the linebacker position for the Trojans in 2024.

Ohio State 2024 linebacker target Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa set commitment date

We will soon know where the linebacker is headed #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] had targeted just a few linebackers during the 2024 cycle and they will know if one of them will become a Buckeye soon.

California linebacker, [autotag]Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa[/autotag], will make his verbal pledge towards the end of this month on July 23rd. The 6-foot, 3-inch, 230-pounder will select from Ohio State, Notre Dame, and USC.

Viliamu-Asa is one of the top players in the country, ranking as the No. 7 best linebacker and 103rd overall according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He had a great time on his official visit to Columbus during the final weekend of last month and hopefully, there was a lasting impression.

You have to think the Buckeyes have a legit shot, as Viliamu-Asa was seen wearing Buckeyes gloves recently and had a great connection with current commit Peyton Pierce. We will find out soon what he intends to do.

Notre Dame football: A top remaining ’24 target sets commitment date

Notre Dame REALLY needs to land this one.

Despite missing on Justin Scott over the weekend, several big-time defensive targets remain for Notre Dame in the 2024 recruiting cycle.  One of the biggest announced his commitment date on Monday.

Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, one of the nation’s top linebackers, says he plans to announce his commitment on July 23. Viliamu-Asa stars at St. John Bosco High School in California and appears to be down to Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC.

He spent a weekend at Notre Dame in mid-June but was at Ohio State a week later. On the heels of what happened Sunday, Notre Dame could use some good news with this big-time target in a few weeks.

Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa recruitment is a central drama at USC

Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa (also known as KVA) is such a big deal because his recruitment’s importance exists on multiple levels.

USC is involved in a number of big recruiting battles at the moment, but none might be more important than the one involving St. John Bosco linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa. In this recruitment, USC is going up against Notre Dame and Ohio State,

USC analysts have discussed why Viliamu-Asa is such a central figure in the current Trojan recruiting universe. Not having him at Notre Dame or Ohio State would give USC value in itself. USC might get him, but merely being able to deprive Notre Dame and OSU of his skills would be important on its own terms.

However, there’s another reason Viliamu-Asa matters to USC. The Trojans have not locked down St. John Bosco the way they have other Southern California high schools. The Trojans wouldn’t just get a very good linebacker if they signed Viliamu-Asa; they also would get an elite Bosco player, which might change the dynamic when recruiting Bosco in future years.

This recruitment matters on multiple levels. That’s why so many people are talking about it.

Ohio State linebacker target seen wearing Buckeye gloves at a camp

If the glove fits… #GoBucks

It’s always interesting to read into a prospect’s glove game, but it’s never bad news to see an [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] target wearing Buckeye gear.

That’s the case for California 2024 linebacker, [autotag]Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa[/autotag], who is at the top of the Buckeyes’ board for uncommitted linebackers. The 6-foot, 3-inch, 230-pound ‘backer is down to the Buckeyes, Notre Dame and USC.

Viliamu-Asa officially visited each of his three top schools during the spring, and there could be a decision on the horizon. If there was a clue to where he was leaning, the seventh-ranked linebacker and 103rd overall player on the 247Sports composite, might have tipped his hand by wearing Buckeye gloves at the Battle of the Beach camp.

Again, it’s hard to read much into what a recruit wears on any given day, but it has to be seen as a positive sign that Viliamu-Asa chose Ohio State gloves.

The talented California linebacker enjoyed his official visit to Columbus #GoBucks

One of the biggest priority targets that is still on [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag]’s 2024 recruiting board is California linebacker, [autotag]Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa[/autotag].

Not only is the coaching staff going hard after Viliamu-Asa, but it was commit Peyton Pierce also putting on his recruiting hat while they were both on their official visits.

The 6-foot, 3-inch, 230 pound ‘backer is rated as the No. 7 best at his position and 101st overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Viliamu-Asa has yet to announce when he will make a decision, but it seems like he had a very good time in Columbus.

He thanked the staff for their time and posted pictures with them, of his family and, other recruits (Justin Scott) to his Twitter account.

Viliamu-Asa narrowed his list down to three schools, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and USC. He took official visits to each one of them during the month of June. As we know more about where things stand, we’ll keep you all posted.
