Notre Dame lands 2024 linebacker recruit Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa

Solid get for the Irish.

Notre Dame just beat out two real blue bloods for the services of 2024 four-star linebacker recruit [autotag]Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa[/autotag]. On July 3, the Bellflower, California native announced that the Irish had made his final cut along with USC and Ohio State. After nearly three weeks of additional waiting, the recruiting efforts of [autotag]Al Washington[/autotag] and [autotag]Max Bullough[/autotag] have paid off. Viliamu-Asa made the announcement on social media:

Here’s how the actual announcement looked from his home:

Viliamu-Asa is the third linebacker commit of the Irish’s 2024 class. The others, [autotag]Teddy Rezac[/autotag] and [autotag]Bodie Kahoun[/autotag], are three-star commits, which makes Vilamu-Asa the biggest get at the position in the 2024 class so far. Greg Biggins of 247Sports had this to say about him in November:

“One of the most versatile linebackers in the country. He’s an inside ‘backer but a rare every down player who can move around and play multiple spots in a defense. He can stuff the run, blitz off the edge and is very smooth in coverage for a 6-foot-3, 230 pound athlete. He was the state’s top prospect as a freshman but tore his ACL in the final game of the season and missed his entire sophomore year. He’s a huge hitter and has a game built for pads but we saw him during 7v7 play lock up receivers and tight ends in coverage. He’s a smart kid as well, very instinctive and plays with a non-stop motor. He’s a tough kid and has a nice edge in his game.”

Here’s hoping that all is on display with the Irish.

Notre Dame’s best players all-time from Nebraska

Notre Dame’s top players all-time from Nebraska

Before Notre Dame and USC began meeting annually the Irish (who weren’t yet known as the Irish) had quite a rivalry going with Nebraska.  The two met every year from 1915-1925 with the two going an even 5-5-1 against each other.

The Irish and Cornhuskers have met just five times since 1925 as Notre Dame’s links to the Cornhusker State don’t run particularly deep.

Full disclosure, I’ve had an appreciation for Nebraska for a long time.  The football team is a blue blood despite recent years, but I’m talking about the state.  For a school state report in second grade I remember pulling the name of states out of a basket and my friends were getting some stellar places like New York, Florida, and California.

Meanwhile, I got Nebraska.  Talk about having to work for that A…

A couple years later the assignment we had was to create a travel brochure for a state and a specific landmark we were randomly assigned.  My friends were pitching the Smoky Mountains and Tennessee, the Alamo and river walk in San Antonio, and the Grand Canyon in Arizona.  I

had the duty of pitching Chimney Rock in Nebraska as a vacation destination.

A few of those memories certainly crossed my mind when Notre Dame landed their newest recruiting commitment in the 2024 class.  Linebacker Teddy Rezac of Omaha announced his decision on Friday, May 12.

For being a state that produced a powerhouse program for decades, Nebraska isn’t known for turning out worlds of high school football talent.  Who are some of the biggest names to play for Notre Dame who have come through Nebraska?

Here is a short list of some of the better ones.

Which 3 wide receivers Notre Dame should target with a spot open in 2024 class

Who should the Irish target at receiver in 2024 with a spot open?

Unfortunately for [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag], 4-star wide receiver Isaih Canion decommitted on Saturday.

The Irish aren’t in a terrible position, they still have commitments from [autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag] and [autotag]Micah Gilbert[/autotag] with athletes [autotag]Teddy Rezac[/autotag] and [autotag]Brauntae Johnson[/autotag] potentially getting reps at the position as well.

With Canion leaving the class, there are still 20 current commits so it would be a good idea to add another receiver to replace him.

The Irish didn’t have any uncommitted wide receivers make an official visits during the spring period, so that means they will bring in potential matches during a Saturday in South Bend. Here are my top three targets the Irish should turn to with an open scholarship.

Three-star recruit Teddy Rezac commits to Notre Dame

The Irish are getting a well-rounded athlete.

Notre Dame always is looking for the next [autotag]Manti Te’o[/autotag] or [autotag]Jaylon Smith[/autotag]. But sometimes, you just need a linebacker who isn’t expected to be a star but otherwise can make many worthwhile contributions. That’s what the Irish hoping to get in three-star recruit [autotag]Teddy Rezac[/autotag], who is listed as an athlete from Omaha, Nebraska. Considering he was recruiting by [autotag]Al Golden[/autotag], there’s no doubt which side of the ball he’ll play on, which officially will be for the Irish after he made the announcement:

Rezac’s commitment is the 15th for the Irish’s 2024 recruiting class. Two Irish Illustrated insiders correctly predicted earlier this week that he would join that class. Those predictions came only a couple of days after the Irish offered him. Nebraska made a late offer to join the ranks of programs like Boston College and all three service academies, but once the Irish officially threw their hat in the ring, it seems all bets were off.

Notre Dame offers intriguing 2024 Nebraska athlete

The Irish are in early for this Nebraska athlete

It isn’t always about what you can do on a football field that will get you a [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] offer.

Academics plays a big part in the process for the Irish, and Nebraska athlete [autotag]Teddy Rezac[/autotag] checks all the boxes for head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 4-inch and 200-pound athlete not only excels on the gridiron, but also in the classroom.

Rezac is a member of the National Honor Society while leading his team to a state championship in football this past season. His stat line is absurd, doing a bit of everything to help his team win a title. Oh, and now Rezac has a Notre Dame offer.

It’s the first big offer for Rezac, who held a few other offers but none as significant as the Irish. He’s the 102nd athlete and 946th overall player according to the 247Sports composite, but it most likely haven’t seen much of him at all.

No one really has, but after Notre Dame offered Missouri followed suit. Other most likely will follow as it looks like the Irish were very early on offering an intriguing athlete in Rezac.
