Titans injury updates: Kyle Philips, Ola Adeniyi might practice this week

The Titans might see two players on IR return to practice this week, head coach Mike Vrabel said on Monday.

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel provided some injury updates on key players going into a massive Week 13 game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon.

Center Ben Jones, who missed his second straight game and just the third of his career in Week 12, remains in the concussion protocol. Of course, Tennessee missed Jones badly in the loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Kicker Randy Bullock’s status remains up in the air, but Vrabel did say he is feeling better. It’ll be interesting to see if the Titans go back to Bullock or stick with Caleb Shudak once the former is healthy.

Some good news: it looks like the Titans may see wide receiver Kyle Philips and outside linebacker Ola Adeniyi return to practice. The pair are both on injured reserve and their returns would be welcomed to say the least.

Tennessee needs all the help it can get on offense, and Adeniyi provides valuable depth as an edge defender, as well as great special teams play.

One player we didn’t hear anything about was defensive lineman Denico Autry, who sat out Sunday with a knee injury. The most recent report stated Autry wouldn’t miss the rest of the season, but there’s still no timeline there.

Titans place Kyle Philips on IR, sign Chris Conley

With Philips on IR, the Titans now have 13 players on the list.

Earlier in the day it was reported that the Tennessee Titans were signing wide receiver Chris Conley off the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad but didn’t receive the corresponding move.

Now we know what it is — Titans 2022 fifth-round pick and wide receiver Kyle Philips has been placed on injured reserve, meaning he’ll miss the next four games.

Philips suffered a hamstring injury during Friday’s practice, leading to his being ruled out in Week 7. He has also dealt with a shoulder issue.

With Philips on IR, the Titans now have 13 players on the list, five of which have been drafted in the last two years. Philips is also the second wideout drafted in 2022 to be placed on IR, along with Treylon Burks.

Tennessee currently has four wide receivers on its active roster in Conley, Robert Woods, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and Cody Hollister, as well as three more on the practice squad in Dez Fitzpatrick, C.J. Board and Mason Kinsey.

Tennessee Titans vs. Buffalo Bills Week 2 injury report: Friday

A look at the Friday injury reports for the Titans and Bills.

The Tennessee Titans and Buffalo Bills have released their respective injury reports on Friday, the second-to-last before their Week 2 matchup on “Monday Night Football”.

The Titans saw three players upgrade their participation from Thursday, including wide receiver Kyle Philips, left tackle Taylor Lewan and center Ben Jones.

On the flip side, offensive lineman Jamarco Jones was downgraded from Thursday, while right guard Nate Davis was a new addition to the injury report.

Others, including cornerback Kristian Fulton, running back Dontrell Hilliard, outside linebacker Ola Adeniyi and offensive lineman Dillon Radunz, saw no change in their practice participation.

Meanwhile, the Bills’ injury report looks identical to the Thursday version. The most notable name on it is defensive tackle Ed Oliver, who didn’t practice once again.

Now, a full look at the injury reports for both teams before they release their final ones on Saturday.

Fantasy football start or sit advice for Tennessee Titans in Week 2

Which Titans players can you start in fantasy football in Week 2?

After dropping their season-opener against the New York Giants in Week 1, the Tennessee Titans will look to bounce back against one of the best teams in the NFL, the Buffalo Bills, in Week 2.

Tennessee is a massive underdog to Buffalo, with the Bills being favored by 9.5 points. However, the Titans have gotten the better of the Bills in each of the last two years in a pair of meetings in which Tennessee was the underdog.

Also of note, the Titans have scored 42 and 34 points against the Bills in their last two meetings, respectively, so the potential is there for a high-scoring affair.

As far as their top fantasy football options were concerned, there wasn’t much to like in Week 1.

It was a slow start for guys like running back Derrick Henry, tight end Austin Hooper and wide receivers Robert Woods and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.

Rookies Treylon Burks and Kyle Philips certainly flashed, but we’re still taking the wait-and-see approach with both before inserting them into lineups.

The Titans’ two best assets were quarterback Ryan Tannehill and running back Dontrell Hillard. Tannehill finished as QB12 for the week, while Hilliard was RB7 in PPR.

With all that in mind, here’s some start or sit advice for Titans players in a difficult Week 2 matchup.

Titans’ Kyle Philips talks impressive Week 1, says he wasn’t reliable enough

Titans QB Ryan Tannehill showed a lot of trust in WR Kyle Philips in Week 1, but the rookie feels he could’ve been more reliable.

Tennessee Titans 2022 fifth-round pick and wide receiver Kyle Philips was among the team’s biggest standouts in the Week 1 loss to the New York Giants.

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill showed a lot of faith in the rookie receiver, as he peppered the UCLA product with a team-high nine targets, which Philips turned into six catches for 66 yards, pacing all Titans receivers.

“I didn’t feel like I was as reliable as I could’ve been today,” Philips said, per Mickey Ryan of 104.5 The Zone. “I definitely felt like I let [Tannehill] and the team down in a couple of areas, so I’m keeping my head down and go to work.”

Another showing of trust from Tannehill came on the final drive of the game, when the veteran signal-caller targeted the rookie three times (four if not for a penalty), including on a 21-yard completion that set Tennessee up for the potential game-winning field goal.

“Just had a corner route. They went to man and I ran the route. Ryan threw me a really good ball. I was able to come down with it,” Philips said of the play.

Philips also made a big contribution in the return game, taking the first punt  of the game for 46 yards, which helped setup Tennessee’s first touchdown.

However, it wasn’t all good for Philips in the return game, as he later muffed a punt to give the Giants the ball deep in Titans territory. Thankfully, he was bailed out by an Amani Hooker interception.

“The good punt return, that’s just all special teams coaches and the special teams punt return unit that was out there. They made phenomenal blocks for, made that return real easy,” he explained. “The fumble is obviously just 100 percent my fault. I got under it, had poor technique and wasn’t able to come down with the ball.”

Philips is being a bit too hard on himself. All in all, it was a successful debut for him and the Titans must find a way to get him more than the 26 snaps he saw in Week 1.

13 waiver wire targets for fantasy football in Week 2

Take a look at the top targets on the fantasy football waiver wire in Week 2.

Just like that, the first week of fantasy football has come and gone.

It was a pretty wild opening weekend for fantasy managers. There were some explosive performances from the studs across the league while we also encountered some surprises along the way.

With rosters and roles settling, the waiver wire will be a much less chaotic place. However, that doesn’t make it any less valuable. In fact, working the waiver wire is from where league champions emerge. Drafting is great for setting a team’s foundation, but the real work comes through the waiver wire.

It’s best not to overreact to all of the Week 1 hoopla. However, we do need to take note of certain storylines, especially when it pertains to usage. Volume drives fantasy points, so that’s one of the aspects we should be looking for on the waiver wire.

We’ll be taking a look at the top available players rostered in ESPN leagues, using the 75% mark as the threshold. If you have any questions about prioritizing a certain player over another, don’t be afraid to hit me up on Twitter (@KevinHickey11). Your questions, comments, and roasts are always welcome!

Regardless of whether you won or lost, here are 13 players to target on the waiver wire for fantasy football in Week 2:

Titans highlights: Kyle Philips rips off big gain on 1st punt return

Kyle Philips ripped off an electric punt return in his first attempt with the Titans.

Tennessee Titans 2022 fifth-round pick and wide receiver Kyle Philips wasted no time making his presence felt in the Week 1 contest against the New York Giants.

After Tennessee forced a three-and-out on the Giants’ opening series, Philips fielded the punt and promptly took it 46 yards, crossing midfield to set the Titans up with great field position.

And, just five plays later, the Titans finished with a touchdown on a pass from quarterback Ryan Tannehill to running back Dontrell Hilliard.

Behind Enemy Lines: Week 1 Q&A with Titans Wire

With a Week 1 matchup between the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans on tap, we go behind enemy lines for a chat with Titans Wire.

The New York Giants (0-0) and Tennessee Titans (0-0) will square off on Sunday afternoon in a Week 1 matchup at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Giants opened the week as 5.5-point road underdogs and that’s where the spread remains as of this writing.

With this matchup on tap, Giants Wire took the opportunity to hold a Q&A with Titans Wire managing editor Mike Moraitis.

6 things we want to see from Titans in preseason finale vs. Cardinals

Shaun Calderon lists six things he wants to see from the Titans in preseason Week 3.

We’ve officially reached the final preseason game of 2022. The Tennessee Titans host the Arizona Cardinals later this evening for their preseason finale inside Nissan Stadium.

The two teams held a joint practice together earlier this week, so the majority of the starters probably won’t play much, if at all tonight. Nonetheless, there are still several intriguing storylines surrounding this one.

The Titans have a few noteworthy positional battles going on throughout the roster, either for a starting spot or for a reserve role on the 53-man roster.

Time is running out for those who are on the roster bubble and are trying to earn their place on this football team, as the final cutdown day comes on Tuesday by 4 p.m. EDT.

As the preseason comes to an end tonight, there’s quite a bit that I would love to see the team accomplish before the focus solely turns towards Week 1.

Here are six things.

Titans’ Kyle Philips talks impressive punt returns vs. Bucs

Titans WR Kyle Philips should have the punt return job locked down after preseason Week 2.

Tennessee Titans rookie receiver Kyle Philips has been a standout in training camp, displaying his impressive route-running while continuing to earn the trust of quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

As camp has progressed, Philips has been getting more repetitions as the team’s punt returner, a role left vacant by Chester Rogers, who signed with the Houston Texans in free agency.

Philips was limited to just two punt-return opportunities in the Titans’ first preseason game last week. However, he got three attempts in the first half on Saturday, including a dicey return on the game’s first punt.

The UCLA product fielded the ball just inside his own end zone and took it out to the 26-yard line, showcasing the confidence in his abilities while catching the attention of the coaching staff.

“It’s easier to say, ‘Woah,’ than it is ‘sick-em.’ He got it out past the 20,” Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said of the play. “It was exciting and I felt like there was really some great efforts from guys blocking. The more that you start to gain yards and you have a returner then it seems like the guys blocking even try to go a little harder because they know that there’s an opportunity to break one.”

In a game that didn’t see much offense on either side of the ball, Philips was a busy man.

In all, the rookie wide receiver racked up 77 yards on three return attempts, including a 35-yard scamper with under three minutes left in the first half.

Philips fielded the ball at the Titans’ 21-yard line and navigated through all kinds of traffic before settling inside Buccaneers territory at their 44-yard line.

Following Tennessee’s 13-3 win, Philips broke down his performance.

“I definitely want to make a play every time the ball is in my hands,” Philips said, via Jim Wyatt of TitansOnline. “I want to contribute to this team, and help us win some games. So, every time I touch the ball I want to try and make something happen.”

Philips flashed as a pass-catcher in preseason Week 2, also. The rookie reeled in an 11-yard reception near the sideline with an impressive toe drag that showed his awareness.

There’s still one more preseason game to go, but it’s safe to say Philips has locked up the punt return job and a role in Tennessee’s passing attack.
