Kyle Brandt praises Titans: ‘I respect the way they operate’

Kyle Brandt is a real one when it comes to his support of the Titans.

Television and podcast personality Kyle Brandt has always been a staunch supporter of the Tennessee Titans and he isn’t about to let three ugly wins change his stance.

Brandt is mostly known to football fans as the hilarious and charismatic co-host on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football”; however, Brandt recently began a side project called “‘Kyle Brandt’s Basement”.

It’s a fantastic daily show with ESPN’s Omaha productions that covers a variety of different topics in the most Kyle Brandt way possible.

Following Sunday’s slate of games, the former MTV “Real World” star went out of his way to show the Titans some much-deserved love after reeling off three straight victories.

On top of the tweet shown above, Brandt also went on his new show and held a small segment on the team where he mentions how the Titans are universally considered the “boring” team that no one likes.

The Princeton graduate then went on to emphasize how the Titans are always right in the thick of the playoff conversation when it matters most because “Mike Vrabel teams are tough.”

As if we couldn’t like him any more, the multi-talented media star even threw a subtle jab toward everyone who was higher on the Indianapolis Colts going into the season. The entire clip can be seen in the tweet shown below:

Kyle Brandt rips Broncos QB Russell Wilson on NFL Network

Is Kyle Brandt spot on, or did he go too far?

NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt went viral on Friday morning after he ranted about Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson during an episode of Good Morning Football.

“I don’t know when Russell Wilson turned into Mitch Trubisky, but I wish he would turn into Geno Smith so they could win a game,” Brandt quipped.

Brandt’s criticism of Wilson’s play was warranted, but he also seemed to have a personal beef with the quarterback that apparently started when Brandt was snubbed by Wilson and his wife at an NFL Honors red carpet event. Brandt went on to discuss Wilson’s personality and off-field persona.

“I think Russell Wilson is one of the least authentic personalities we have in this league,” Brandt said. “I think Russell Wilson is a poser. And that doesn’t mean he’s a bad person — I actually think he’s a good person — [but] I think he tries to be something that he’s not. … And when you make the $245 million, you either gotta be a really great guy with the locker room [that] loves you, or you gotta be an amazing player.”

Brandt seemed to be implying that Wilson isn’t loved in the locker room because of his personality and/or isn’t a great player.

Some former players, including offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth and quarterback Robert Griffin III, took exception to Brandt’s remarks on Twitter.

What do you think, Broncos fans? Did Brandt cross the line? Let us know your take in the poll below!

One Good Morning Football host thinks the Vikings win the NFC North

One NFL Network host believes strongly in Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have a wide range of outcomes this season and the pundits agree.

Earlier on Tuesday, we wrote that Pro Football Talk had the Vikings at 22nd on their initial power rankings heading into week one.

Earlier on Tuesday, Kyle Brandt of Good Morning Football discussed who he thought his division winners would be and had the Vikings winning the NFC North over the wild card Green Bay Packers.

Brandt was confident in picking the Vikings.

“Are you ready for Kirk Cousins to be a huge story this year? Because it’s coming,” Brandt said. “He (Cousins) has the best weapons in his huddle in the NFL. He’s beaten the Packers three times and he’s won in Lambeau. Don’t mistake that he (Aaron Rodgers) owns the Bears, Lions and Vikings because he don’t own this guy.”

Its’s no secret that the Vikings success this season hinges on the success and growth of Cousins and this offense. If they do what Brandt suggests in being a huge story, it could be a magical year for the purple and gold.

NFL analyst says Odell Beckham Jr. would ‘explode’ if signed by Patriots

Should the Patriots finally take a chance on OBJ?

Speculation about Odell Beckham Jr. joining the New England Patriots has been around for years.

And that speculation wasn’t farfetched, as Beckham admitted he was “very” close to signing with the organization. The 29-year-old considered signing with New England last season after a fallout with the Cleveland Browns, but he chose the Los Angeles Rams and ended up winning a Super Bowl.

He’s discussed his respect and admiration for Tom Brady numerous times, while giving that similar respect to Bill Belichick. Now, Beckham is once again a free agent and he’s looking for his next move. The biggest thing holding him back in free agency is the ACL tear he suffered in the Super Bowl.

NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt discussed potential destinations for Beckham on “Good Morning, Football!” and gave an argument for him joining the Patriots this offseason.

“If no one else is going to say it, I’ll say it: send him to New England, “The Land of Misfit Toys” of wide receivers,” Brandt said.

The Patriots have a lot of talented receivers, but no one to take the roof off and change the game. Kendrick Bourne, Jakobi Meyers and DeVante Parker are all really good options — but, Beckham brings a different level of star power to the position.

“Are the Patriots going to just sit by and be like, ‘You know what, oh well. I guess the Bills own the AFC East. We’ll just sit here and hope for a wild card. Oh, I guess the Dolphins just going to come and blow everybody’s doors off because ‘Good Morning, Football!’ talks about them every morning, noon, and night,” Brandt continued. “No! The Patriots are going to arm up. Go get this guy. He would explode. Go give him to Mac Jones. Go take this thing.”

The Patriots don’t need him, but Beckham would be an extremely helpful piece on the roster if the price was right.

Perhaps Kyle Brandt inspired Ben Roethlisberger

Ben Roethlisberger hit on a deep shot early against Denver. Perhaps Kyle Brandy played a part.

Sunday began with Kyle Brandt of the NFL Network channeling his inner Mickey Goodwill and, in a segment for CBS heavy with imagery from Rocky, Brandt played the role of a corner man trying to inspire Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Perhaps the veteran quarterback drew some inspiration from the segment.

With questions swirling about Roethlisberger, his arm and his longevity, the grizzled QB hit on a deep shot early against the Denver Broncos, silencing for a moment his harshest critics:

Roethlisberger entered play on Sunday having completed 64.1% of his passes for 1,033 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions, along with a QBR of just 36.6, ranking him 29th in the league. But this deep shot to Diontae Johnson, with Roethlisberger getting the football downfield in the vertical passing game, might be the kind of play that could turn his season around.

Perhaps Brandt did his job in the corner.

Here is the segment for those who missed it this morning:

What they’re saying following Chargers’ win over Chiefs

National pundits react to the Chargers’ 30-24 victory over the Chiefs on Sunday.

Chargers kicked off division play on Sunday with a 30-24 win over the Chiefs.

Highlighted by quarterback Justin Herbert’s four touchdowns and the defense’s four turnover, Los Angeles pushed Kansas City to 1-2 and last place in the AFC West.

With that said, national football analysts shared some of their thoughts on the game, and I have compiled some of the best reactions below.

FS1’s Colin Cowherd

“Justin Herbert is a special player. And now, they have protection. They have weapons. I don’t think what you saw today was a fluke. Patrick Mahomes for the next decade is going to be in shootouts with Justin Herbert, and he’s going to lose a lot of them.”

Fox Sports’ Emmanuel Acho

“The best team in the division (AFC West) is the Los Angeles Chargers.”

NFL Media’s Kyle Brandt

“It was nuts. But they won in Arrowhead, and I can’t second guess anything they did. They’re a little crazy, and I don’t know if it’s always going to work for them. But Justin Herbert is a star and Brandon Staley is a gangster.”

NFL Media’s Peter Schrager

To go for it on 4th and 9–in their building, after the false start, and after how they lost last year to the Chiefs last year in Herbert’s debut–it was a statement by Brandon Staley. That statement was, ‘We’re not going anywhere.'”

Undisputed’s Skip Bayless

“Justin Herbert just outplayed Mahomes in the wind at KC – and my Cowboys beat him at SoFine Stadium last Sunday.”

ESPN’s Mike Greenberg

“Biggest win of Justin Herbert’s career. There are gonna be much bigger ones to come.”

Sports Net’s Satiar Shah

“If someone is just getting into the NFL and wants to find a team to support pick Justin Herbert’s Chargers.”

Bears TE Cole Kmet wins angriest run of Week 14 by GMFB

It might’ve taken nearly the entire season, but the Bears have finally discovered exactly what they have in rookie TE Cole Kmet.

[jwplayer qLoEf0nU-ThvAeFxT]

It might’ve taken most of the season, but the Chicago Bears are finally starting to discover exactly what they have in rookie tight end Cole Kmet, who has become Chicago’s top tight end over the last few weeks.

Kmet is a big-bodied, physical tight end that will fight for extra yardage, as evidenced by his performance Sunday against the Houston Texans. In fact, Kmet’s 67 yards after the catch over the last two weeks ranks third among tight ends behind just Las Vegas’ Darren Waller and Kansas City’s Travis Kelce.

But there was one run after the catch in particular that has caught eyes across the NFL landscape. Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky threw a beautiful sidearm pass to Kmet, who barreled ahead for the first down and then some, dragging defenders with him and refusing to go down.

That catch earned Kmet “angriest run” honors from Good Morning Football‘s Kyle Brandt, who was quite animated about the former Notre Dame tight end’s run.

As with many things this season, the question remains: Where has this been all season? As in, why has it taken the Bears so long to get Kmet involved in this offense? This is exactly what they could’ve used amid a deflating losing streak.

Kmet has succeeded since Bill Lazor took over play-calling duties from Matt Nagy, specifically in these previous two games against the Texans and Detroit Lions. Kmet has nine receptions for 78 yards and one touchdown in those two games compared to eight receptions for 94 yards and a score in the first 11 games.

With Kmet’s star on the rise, you’d expect to see a lot more of the rookie involved in Chicago’s offense, especially as the Bears are looking to make a late push for a wild card berth.

Bears fans might not have to deal with Packers QB Aaron Rodgers much longer

Bears fans should breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Aaron Rodgers’ time in Green Bay is almost done with the arrival of Jordan Love.

Chicago Bears fans have had to endure 12 years of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers getting the best of the Bears in the NFL’s oldest rivalry. At times, it’s felt like a one-sided rivalry, not in Chicago’s favor. But that could be coming to an end.

Rodgers appeared on the “10 Questions with Kyle Brandt” podcast on The Ringer, where he discussed a variety of topics. But the most obvious topic of conversation between Brandt and Rodgers was the Packers’ decision to draft Utah State quarterback Jordan Love in the first round. Which begs the question: Will the Packers move on from Rodgers in the near future or will they keep their first-round pick off the field instead?

“I think probably the first, the former,” Rodgers said. “I think that’s probably what happens.

“You know, based on just the circumstances around everything when you just look at the facts. They traded up, they drafted him. I would say they like him, they want to play him.”

Rodgers himself sat for three years behind Hall of Famer Brett Favre before he finally saw the field. But Rodgers understands that first-round picks — especially quarterbacks — don’t sit nowadays.

“It’s a different environment,” he said. “In 2005, my first year we were 4-12, second year, we were 8-8. There wasn’t a clamoring to play me because it was normal for young guys to sit. In the third year, ’07, we go 13-3. We’re one play, we’re overtime in the NFC Championship playing at home against the Giants from going to the Super Bowl. Different scenario. Now, I think quarterbacks are playing earlier. It gives some latitude for young coaches and GMs to play their guys. And I get it. I really do.”

Brandt, a noted Bears fan, couldn’t help but ask about Rodgers potentially being in a Bears uniform when his time in Green Bay comes to and end. A thought that Rodgers laughed at.

“Oh man, that’s a tough thought right there, man,” he said.

But Bears fans should breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Rodgers’ time in Green Bay is almost done. Love will be Rodgers’ successor, but it should be a fresh start for the Bears in the NFL’s oldest rivalry. Because there’s no way the Packers will get lucky with three Hall of Fame quarterbacks in a row, right?

‘Good Morning Football’ co-host Kyle Brandt rips coronavirus ‘tough guys’

Brandt delivered a rant Thursday morning.

Good Morning Football co-host Kyle Brandt has had enough of what he called “a little bit of a social pandemic that is bothering me.”

He described people as “(coronavirus) tough guys” who tell you, “It’s just the flu, chill out, wash your hands, shut up and go to work” and went on to thank former Chicago Bears offensive lineman Kyle Long for admitting he was wrong about coronavirus being just a “fad sickness.”

He concluded with this: “Maybe it’s time to stop collecting retweets by telling people to do nothing and it’s okay.”

GMFB has differing opinions on Jameis Winston’s future with Bucs

See what the crew over at “Good Morning Football” had to say about Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston and his future with the team.

This morning on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, Jameis Winston was the topic of conversation on the shows Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda segment, posing the question:

“Would you be surprised if Jameis Winston remains Buccaneers starting QB?”

Former wide receiver Nate Burleson, said that he would not be surprised if Winston remains at the helm citing comments from coach Bruce Arians, “We can win with Jameis.” Burleson continued by saying that Arians “wants a quarterback that can sling it, and throw it down field.” As Burleson elaborated, he talked about calling the Buccaneers and Houston Texans game at the end of the season, and spoke to Arians asking him about the offense, and what he wants out of his quarterback. “If he doesn’t make the throw, if he hesitates, if he checks it down, even if there are two guys on one of our star receivers, I am going to yell at my quarterback,” Arians told Burleson.

Burleson continued on his understanding of what Arians wants, saying “Jameis has that, he’s not going to hold back, he’s going to let it fly. I heard he went out and got LASIK, got his thumb on his throwing hand fixed. All things that point to Jameis coming back and having a better season. He won’t be 30-for-30 like the ESPN documentaries.”

Co-host, Kyle Brandt meanwhile, had a polar opposite opinion on Winston’s future saying, “[Bruce] Arians doesn’t want someone to sling it. Winston doesn’t need Arians to tell him to sling it. Carson Palmer, Ben Roethlisberger, Peyton Manning, those guys were not throwing 30 interceptions a year. Those are Bruce Arians guys.” Brandt made reference to Winston being the teams starting quarterback for five years by very simply stating, “If you’re not sure after five years. Then you are sure.”

During their press conferences, both general manager Jason Licht and Arians have been delivering the same undertones that the team could win with Winston as their quarterback, but they are doing their due diligence and weighing all of their options. Arians went as far as saying that he and the team already know what they are going to do at quarterback, they just haven’t made it public yet. It’s now being discussed among many of my peers that the Buccaneers are a potential landing spot for Tom Brady.

Another take that isn’t being widely discussed, could the Buccaneers trade up into one of the top spots and draft a quarterback? Keeping the defense together has been the top priority for the team, and this would allow them to allocate the majority of money to doing just that.

The April 23rd draft is not very far away, and only time will tell what the Buccaneers will do in preparation for the 2020 season.
